Visual C++ Runtime Library error when opening documents in Powerpoint 2010 from Sharepoint link

Hello,

I posted this question on the Office Powerpoint forum and did not get much response so thought I would try here.   Here is the link to that post  http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/pptshare/thread/36a58d07-b1ad-4935-a14e-086dae8cb786

I'm running Windows 7 with Office 2010.  We have a Sharepoint 2007 server.  Whenever I click a link from our Intranet site I get the error "this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the applications's support team for more information."  It asks if I want to open in safe mode and I say yes and it never opens.

During testing I also find that if I have a blank powerpoint .ppt file that I try to save to the same document library on the same site it works fine, but if I try to save a blank .pptx file to the site I get the same runtime error.

This does not happen on all powerpoint or office documents being opened from the Intranet.  If I boot to safe mode it works fine.    If I copy the files local they work fine.  Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks so much!!!

WSS User Profile Editing

As far as I can tell, only the user can edit that users profile once it is brought in from a directory service.  Is this true?

My searching on the subject seems to indicate that there are mechanisms for user maintenance in MOSS that are not available in WSS.  Is that true?

We have issues with the information that is coming in from Active Directory, and it is not clear when the issues there will be resolved.  In the meanwhile, I would like to clean up my own side of the street, but am having difficulty.

I am the secondary Site Collection Adminstrator, yet do not seem to be able to edit anyone's profile other than my own, let alone delete or disable users, which is another issue we have.

If anyone can help me out of my rut, I would appreciate it.

List showing in documents

I originally created a library to store a number of documents (called PND List).

I've just created a list to function as a small database.  This list shows in the List section (as I expected), but also appears as a document in the PND List library (not what I want).

Any ideas why, and how I stop it from showing in the document list?

We have a MOSS 2007 installation with some document libraries. While accessing the documents and editing them it was working fine. Now we upgraded the OS of clients Win Xp to Win 7,IE7 to IE9 and office 2007 to office 2010. After that if a user opens a document from SharePoint, the Enable Editing button appears in Word 2010 at the top of document but clicking it gives error

"bla bla bla file path" cannot not be found. Check your spelling, or try a different path.

It does not happen for all of the documents or for all of the user. But it may come up with any user.

Why is Sharepiont appending port number to public URL?

$

I have created an extended web application, so there are two SharePoint applications running on the same server, one on port 80 and the other on port 8081.  Internally everything is fine.

In the extended application I installed the "Help Desk" template.

When I try to access the extended application using the public URL, everything is fine initially, I can browse from site to site, I can browse service requests and other lists, but as soon as I try to access folders that I have created in the "Knowledge Base" SharePoint begins to append port 8081 to the public URL.  For example, let's say that my public URL is www.knowledgebase.com, SharePoint begins to reference www.knowledgebase.com:8081.  Obviously this is not going to work, NAT will not allow it.

I can view documents in the root of the Knowledge Base, and I can upload documents to the root of the Knowledge Base, but as soon as I try to access a sub folder, the URL is wrong because SharePoint is appending the port number and the URL can not be resolved.

I can not find anywhere in the configuration where I have asked SharePoint to do this for me.  What is going on?  This has to be something simple, but I can't seem to track it down, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I am not having this trouble in the application running on port 80, but I am also not running "Help Desk" in that application.  Could this be a bug in "Help Desk"?

Solution Deployment Problem (Administrative Framework Object Dependencies)

$

I'm having a problem with the deployment of a SharePoint workflow solution - hopefully someone can help me out.

Here is the sequence of STSADM commands and their output from the console:

C:\Workflows>stsadm -o deactivatefeature -name IL.SharePoint.Workflows -url http://localhost/ -force

Operation completed successfully.

C:\Workflows>stsadm -o uninstallfeature -name IL.SharePoint.Workflows -force

Operation completed successfully.

C:\Workflows>stsadm -o retractsolution -name IL.SharePoint.Workflows.wsp -local

DeploymentSucceeded : server : The solution was successfully deployed.

il.sharepoint.workflows.wsp: Operation completed with errors.

C:\Workflows>stsadm -o deletesolution -name IL.SharePoint.Workflows.wsp

Operation completed successfully.

C:\Workflows>stsadm -o addsolution -filename IL.SharePoint.Workflows.wsp

An object in the SharePoint administrative framework, "SPSolutionLanguagePack Name=0 Parent=SPSolution Name=il.sharepoint.workflows.wsp", depends on other objects which do not exist.  Ensure that all of the objects dependencies are created and retry this operation.

IL.SharePoint.Workflows.wsp: The Solution installation failed.

Here is the related log info from the SharePoint logs:

error-redacted.txt

As far as I can see, SP is attempting to insert a "SPSolutionLanguagePack" object into the configuration database, with an invalid foreign key reference to the solution. Obviously there is already something fishy going on during solution retraction as well..

The only possible cause I can think of:
The virtual machine(s) on which I'm trying to do this deployment (a test environment) were created from the production environment. Somehow, in the process of creating the virtuals, their OS's regional settings got reset to English/US from their desired setting. I've also got a warning in the event log (event id 2486) of the SP host, that the system locale has changed. Weird thing is that another test environment, created from the same set of virtuals and using the same solution package, is not experiencing this problem. Granted, that environment's regional settings were changed back to the desired values at some point, but I've tried doing the same in the problem environment without success.

Needless to say it's critical for me to be able to test a deployment.. but what's more worrying is that this could occur in the production environment before I've figured out how to solve it.

Any help much appreciated! :)

Dissapearing entries from Document Libraries and SharePoint Lists

Environment:

2 node web front-end load balanced (web server and search queries)
1 node application server (Office search service and indexing)
3 node database cluster server

Running Sharepoint 2007 Portal server v12.0.0.6565

Issue:

Numerous Office document libraries and sharepoint lists have missing entries with no visable pattern or apparent reason.  The document libraries that have missing documents in their views still contain the documents but they are only viewable using the explorer view.  There are no errors in the Application, System, or Verbose ULS logs.

Could someone provide some direction or insight into this issue.

Hi

I get this error when running the command prompt selfssl,

"Failed to acquire the cryptographic context: 0x8009000f"

After installing the SSLDiag i get the error "strmfilt.dll is not loaded into lsass.exe", though the same SSLDiag is working on other servers in the Sharepoint Farm.

I'm trying to renew the expired certificate for "Office Server Web Services", in our SharePoint Farm.

Thanks

SQL server and save conflict errors with calculated fields

$

I am using WSS 3.0 and working with calculated fields in a list that constantly throws sql server errors and save conflict errors when trying save changes to calculated fields. These errors appear under a wide variety of conditions from editing a formula to just changing a calculated column name. I have searched the internet and these forums without finding any real explaination as to why this is happening.

If there is anyone who can shed some light on this it would be very much appreciated!!!

Some details on an example of the problem:
List contains 24 columns (6 calculated fields)
Have a calculated field named varESSAppNeeded, tried changing name to varESSRequest and it throws the SQL error:

SQL Server Error
The SQL Server might not be started.
Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services.

OR sometimes it throws a save conflict error:
Save Conflict
Your changes conflict with those made concurrently by another user. If you want your changes to be applied, click Back in your Web browser, refresh the page, and resubmit your changes.
Troubleshoot issues with Windows SharePoint Services.

Formula in the field I am trying to change is very basic which references a choice column with "Yes" as an option in it:
=IF([ESS Access]="Yes","1","0")

How to Configure Reporting Services with Sharepoint integrated in sharepoint 2010 standard 3 tier farm environment when installed sql server 2008 r2 standard in native mode??

$

Hope all are doing good.I am new to sharepoint administration.I wanted to setup a 3 tier sharepoint server 2010 standard along with the reporting services configuration in web front end server.
Below is the brief explaination of what all i did.

3-tier farm details are below:

Application Server,Web front End server and Database Server.

Following are the steps of what i did.

1.In Database Server i installed sql server 2008 r2 standard edition.
while choosing reporting services Configuration, i chose native mode.

2.In application server, i installed all the prequisites for sharepoint server 2010 standard along with reporting services add-in
then installed sharepoint and configured by connecting it with the database instance which is in database server. So this is a application server now.
also installed sp1 of both sharepoint 2010 foundation and also sp1 of sharepoint server 2010 and configured successfully with all default services available for standard edition.

3.In web front server,I followed the same steps above but chose connected to an existing farm and chose the same database instance as i chose for application server, sharepoint installation and configuration was successful.

4.Now i want to configure reporting services(SSRS) for sharepoint. So i changed the report server mode from Native to sharepoint integrated by running reporting services configuration manager.
When i click on Web server URL under Web server URL pane.I was getting an error called
The configuration parameter SharePointIntegrated is set to True but Share Point Object Model cannot be loaded. The error was: System.IO.FileNotFoundException.
5.Now i went back to Webfrontend server to configure Reporting Services but that option was missing in central Administration->General Application Settings

Question:How to configure Reporting Services under this circumstance? Please reply if any remedy.

Can not rename a folder

Dear All,

I am facing this odd problem where despite having full control over a shared folder I cant change its name both in 'explorer view' and in  'edit properties' .

  • In 'explorer view ' I get 'can not rename, cannot read from source file or disk'
  • In 'edit properties ' I get the following message 'an unexpected error has occurred '

this is quite odd as I can rename other folders on the same location. Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cannot open Explorer View in Sharepoint 2010

$

I have the following incredibly frustrating scenario, consisting of:

- Project Server 2010 installed on top of Sharepoint 2010 in a stand-alone installation on Windows 2008 R2.
- Desktop Experience and WebClient are both running on the server.
- WebClient is running on my local machine.
- My local OS is Windows 7 64-bit with MS Office 2007 and Sharepoint Designer 2010 installed.
- Browser is IE8 32-bit

When I try to change a document library to Explorer View I get the dreaded "Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer" message.

However - I have another installation of just Sharepoint 2010 (i.e., no Project Server 2010), and I CAN change a document library to Explorer View in that installation.

So the problem is that I have everything that needs to be turned on and/or configured correctly to view document libraries in Explorer View, and I can in fact do that in one instance of Sharepoint 2010 (the one without Project Server 2010), but not in the other.  A colleague of mine has has Windows XP on his local machine and he is able to view the Project Server 2010 document library in Explorer View in IE8 32-bit.

Anyone have any ideas?
