Another Alerts Question

$
0
0
I have two Sharepoint test systems. Alerts won't work on either - never have.

I have a MOSS 2007 Standard install - 1 web server, 1 SQL server - and a WSS 3.0 install - 1 web server 1 SQL server.

On each server the Immediate Alerts timer job status reads Initialized, 0%.
I've done most of the testing on the MOSS 2007 system,
The timer service runs on a domain account that is local admin on both the web and SQL server
This system is part of an intranet
I've tried pointing to our exchange server that serves as an SMTP server and to the local SMTP server on the web server.
I can send email via telnet from the web server to the local SMTP and to the Exchange server and I get emails back fine from both.
I'm able to set up immediate alerts - they show up in the db - but never register in the SMTP log as being sent.
When I try to set up a new alert, the web page hangs and never finished executing, although the alert registers in the db.
When I change something on the site that has an alert tied to it, it adds a record to the event cache table.

I'm really stuck here. I've double-checked all the services (tried alternate admin acocunts), ran filemon and SQL profiler to see if something looks hung, but I can't find anything.

Any ideas... anyone?

MOSS 2007 Alerts - Multiple Emails Issue

$

I've been experiencing a strange issue with SharePoint alerts that seem to happen randomly.  I've setup a daily alert on a custom list that sends a summary of all changes at 5pm, but on some days I'll receive more than 1 summary email (150+ this past Tuesday).  Each email contains different information and the total number of emails is random along with the number of records in each email.  Some days the summary comes in one email and others it comes in multiple.  This is happening on our production server and I haven't been able to recreate the issue in development.  Does anyone have any thoughts as to how a daily alert would get split up into several emails?

We have 1 MOSS 2007 app server, 1 index server and 1 SQL 2005 database server.

Hi All,

Is it a good idea to clean up (delete) the unused SharePoint default groups such as "Quick Depoy Users", "Hierarchy Managers", "Viewers", "Readers" etc...

Can somebody please throw some light on this?

Hi

My scenario is, that the users should be able to upload the excel spreadsheets in a sharepoint list and the data of those excel sheets may get automatically saved in ms-access database.

Hello,

a document library has a field type date& time. It seems that sorting using this field, it filters by date but not by time.

Is this a normal phenomenon?

Thank you.

Incoming Mail in WSS 3.0

Good Day,

We are trying to activate the incoming mail for WSS 3.0.

The settings on the Central Admin are as follows:

Settings Mode = Automatic

Directory Management Service = No

E-Mail Display = <ServerName>.<DomainName>.ph

Safe E-Mail Servers = Accept form all

We are able to configure with no problems and even set up the Document Library Settings, The problem is the when trying to send a mail to the email address, <LibraryName>.<DisplayAddress>, Nothing happens, no items appear on the library nor any error is diplayed/returned.

Is there something wrong with the Set-up or is there any way to check if there are any errors encountered as to why the library doesn't receive the mail?

SharerPoint V3.0, Project Management Template - Dashboard View

In the Overall Project Status, the last category to the right is the "Overdue Tasks" icon.

How does sharepoint determine if a Task is Overdue for this specific Icon.  Here is what is happenning to me:

Current Date = 11/5/2008

Any Task with an End Date of 11/6/2008 - 12/31/2008 is fine.

However, this icon is showing a task as overdue if the date is 1/1/2009 - 11/4/2009 and NOT overdue if the date is 11/6/2009 - 12/31/2009?

The "Overdue Tasks" view is working as expected, it is showing only tasks with an End Date of Less than Current Date and not = to Complete.  Why is the icon on the Dashboard working differently?  Where is the setting for this icon located so I can change it?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Cloning a WSS 3.0 Server to create a Development Environment

Hello All.

We have a WSS 3.0 installation at our site.  The farm consists of two servers.  The SQL Server Database Server on one Server and the WSS 3.0 Services on the Other Server.  This WSS Farm is in production and operating correctly.

We want to replicate our setup so that we have a development environment.  All our servers are virtualized as VMWare VMs.

Other than spinning up new servers from scratch - is it possible to clone the production WSS Server and then reconfigure it to look at copies of the databases on our development SQL Server?  I tried this approach - but ended up with some of the database connections still pointing to the production system - and the farm details still showed the production server names.

How can I set multiple users regional settings (time zones)?

Hi all,

I'm trying to work out how to so set multiple users regional settings (time zones) in MOSS 2007.

Is there a way that I can do this myself on behalf of the users? Or will the individual users need to do it themselves on a site collection basis by going to "My Profile" then "My Regional Settings", un-ticking "Always follow web settings" and selecting their time zone?

I know that in 2010 this can be done in the user profile service application - is there a similar way in 2007?

Thanks.

Basically, I'm trying to create a Reporting Tool that will generate a report from multiple
Excel files (these Excel files are uploaded in a Sharepoint list).
I want that the the data may get pulled
these files and get copies into an MS Access Database file where the Reporting Tool will get the data for its report.

I tried to add a picture to our 2007 SharePoint site front page and now get the error mesage below when I open it.  How do I fix this? I can't see where Site Settings can be accessed from the page as it is currently displayed.

An error occurred during the processing of. Unkown server tag 'SharePoint ProjectProperty'.

"An error occurred during the processing of . Unknown server tag 'SharePoint:ProjectProperty'. " when trying to open SP site.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I should look for?

Integrating TFS 2010 with Sharepoint Server 2010

$

WE recently moved our SharePoint site from 3.0 to a separate SharePoint Enterprise Server.  We were able to move the database for the sites and all sites come up through the project portal.  Our problem is that it doesn't appear the redirect is working and the data that is being passed to the reports within the dashboards are not correct.  I checked the report server and the reports are created correctly there.

The million dollar question is, how can I make the new web parts for bug, test, build, etc., redirect to pull all the updated information from the reporting server.  The names it is bringing for bug assignments, some haven't been here in years.

Thank You,

Justin

Sharepoint2007 - Broken PerformancePoint integrated Web Parts

We've been running Sharepoint 2007, utilizing integrated PerformancePoint web parts.  These parts have recent broken for unknown reasons.  Creating new PerformancePoint web parts in the same web application produces the same (broken) results.  Creating new PerformancePoint web parts in a NEW web application on the same SP2007 server resolves the problem = PP web parts WORK in a new web application.

Broken web parts all include the following error:

[TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an
invocation.]

Can I upgrade IIS 6.0 running wss 3.0 to IIS 7.x

$

I'm running Sharepoint wss 3.0 on a WinServer 2008 running IIS 6. I'm also running an ftp server with II6.

I'm considering upgrading to IIS 7.x to take advantage of FTPS capabilities.

So, a couple of questions.

Is there an upgrade path from 6 to 7 or is it a new install that would require reconfiguring the FTP sites?

More importantly, how would moving from IIS 6 to IIS 7 affect my wss 3.0 install? Would it break it? Require re-installing wss3.0?

Thanks for your thoughts. Depending on your responses, I may move the FTP service to another server and start from scratch.

Announcements list - Easy way to show next batch

$

I have a bunch of announcements on my home page with a display limit of 5.

I would like a simple way for the users to see the older announcements.

I know you can click on the title announcements and this will display them all but the average user is never going to stumble across that.

I know I can add numberic 1 - 5 with the tiny arrow head but again this is to subtle.

Is there a simple way to add "click here to see more announcements " on the bottom of the announcements, or something more familar to average user?

Thanks
