Data at root level is invalid. at line 1 and position 1 in sharepoint 2010 while import publising site into site collection root level.

 create a publishing subsite, then export that site and import it into the root of the site collection

1. try to create a publising page getting an error "Data at root level is invalid. at line 1 and position 1"

    i have tried the following steps 

  
1. Site Actions -> Site Settings -> Modify all site settings. Click on Site Features under Site Administration.



2. Deactivate SharePoint Server Publishing for all subsites


3. Reactivate SharePoint Server Publishing for all subsites.



4. Go  to Site Settings. Click on Master pages and page layouts under Galleries.



5. Click on Settings->Document Library Settings, click on Advanced Settings



6. Select Yes under Allow management of content types, Click OK.



7. Click on Change new button order and default content type under Content Types. Change Page Layout to 1, click OK.

8. iisreset 

still i am getting same error.

could you please any one help on this issue.

Accidentally changed Inherit Permissions and now no owner can view site

Hi. I am new to sharepoint and i was trying to customise permissions. I removed inheritance and then clicked on inherit permissions again. Now no owner can change things- everyone seems to be restricted. Can I roll back or change this?

Integrating TFS 2010 with Sharepoint Server 2010

WE recently moved our SharePoint site from 3.0 to a separate SharePoint Enterprise Server.  We were able to move the database for the sites and all sites come up through the project portal.  Our problem is that it doesn't appear the redirect is working and the data that is being passed to the reports within the dashboards are not correct.  I checked the report server and the reports are created correctly there. 

The million dollar question is, how can I make the new web parts for bug, test, build, etc., redirect to pull all the updated information from the reporting server.  The names it is bringing for bug assignments, some haven't been here in years.

Dears,

We have a problem upgrading sharepoint

From: SharePoint 2007 SP2 12.0.0.6535 - April 10 cumulative Update

To: SharePoint 2007 SP2 12.0.6557.5000 - April 11 cumulative Update

We start installing WSS CU in our standalone environment

Then we start running the SharePoint Configuration Wizard and it is failed in step 9 with the following error in "PSCDiagnostics" log:

Content deployment extremely slow

We are trying to deploy a publishing site to an empty blank site as per documentation from Operations -> Deployment paths and jobs. The job has been running for 30 hours and teh status still shows exported objects increasing very slowly. We have tried this several times and on many servers. Is this a known issue? Is there something that can be done to speed this up? I am guessing the incremental deployment will be faster but we never got to deploy the full content yet. The size of the database for the site is about 5 GB, but it has many versions and I am expecting the latest site to be about 100 - 200 MB most.

 

Any answers would be highly appreciated. We are working with Microasoft support, but they have not been able to resolve or give an answer yet. Thank you ...

Event ID 3083

Does anyone know what Event ID 3083 means? Some of my workflows are not working correctly and i have noticed a lot of these errors in the Event Viewer. I also have a couple of Event ID 6875.

hello,

I need some help making SharePoint Sites available over the Internet using home Verizon box. Signed with TZO Services server.tzo.net

Working with Host Files on the Server (Don't have Active Directory / DNS);

Network Setup: Verizon Box --> Linksys Router --> SharePoint Server {TZO Service running}

SharePoint Internally: Could Access Site using {server.tzo.net; server ip address 192.168.2.148; http://server}

SharePoint Server - Alternative Access mapping: extranet setup with server.tzo.net & IIS also has the entry added in it server.tzo.net

I need to be able to access http://server.tzo.net over the internet - not getting any luck - some help please

Any help will be great

InfoPath forms opening in browser by default after upgrade

Hello

We have completed a Database Attach upgrade to SharePoint 2010 and have noticed that InfoPath forms that were set to open in the client application in 2007 are now opening in the Browser by default. I can change this setting by going to the Advanced Settings page of the Form Library, but we have dozens of Form Libraries and it would be extremely time consuming to go to each one and change the setting.

Question 1: Is there anything we should have done as part of the upgrade to keep the original setting (to open in the client application) or is this by design?

Question 2: What can we do now to change the InfoPath forms to open in the client application by default?

cqwp : problem with QueryOverride

Hello,

In a CQWP (code snippet):

An error arises ("There is a problem with the query that this Web Part is issuing.....") . I deleted the QueryOverride data and the error disappeared. Could you please tell me which is the error?

UI sorting in datetime doesn't apply in time

Hello,

 a document library has a field type date& time. It seems that sorting using this field, it filters by date but not by time.

Is this a normal phenomenon?

generic error when attaching a file to list item that is over file limit

Riddle me this

Why, when I try to upload a file to a document library that is over the 50mb file limit, do I get this error:

Error

The specified file is larger than the maximum supported file size.

Yet, if I try to attach a file over the 50MB limit to a list item, I get this generic message?

Error

An unexpected error has occurred.

It would be nice if the user got the same kind of message.  I don't suppose anybody knows how to change this?

i want move content database to another location . i used this script in sql :

ALTER DATABASE database_name MODIFY FILE ( NAME = logical_name , FILENAME = 'new_path\os_file_name' )
after  restart sql server , my shrepoint site could not loaded ( blank page).

how can i do this for sharepoint database.?

is it possible only move content Database?

Unable to access subfolder despite having 'Full Control' permissions.

One of the users of my sharepoint 2007 site is unable to access the subfolder and its content despite having 'Full Control'. He's able to login to the site, access the folders but not the subfolders.

I tried giving permission again but whenever he clicks the subfolder IE says - 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage'.

Please help!

MOSS Sign In as Different User Issue?

Hi all i have one issue please help me.

 I have a  subsite  page ( https://mymossportal/Test ) where i am logged in with any user on my site say user1.
                   
 when i click on ‘sign in as a different user’ and enter credentials for same  user i.e user1 again  then the site does not accepts the user and it redirects me to page with ‘NOT AUTHORIZED’ message.
 
 
but this issue is not with main site collection i.e
https://mymossportal/pages/default.aspx

it seems like a bug in sharepoint

need help from you guys .

MOSS 2007 - SharePoint People Picker does not find all IDs in Active Directory

We have a strange problem with one of our MOSS 2007 SharePoint installations.

When you use the people picker to find IDs in our Active Directory, it does not resolve them all!

In one instance we created a new ID in AD, and SharePoint immediately saw it (we could resolve the ID using the people picker function) but when we went back to AD and created a new ID the same identical way, SharePoint couldn't see the new ID!

One of our other SharePoint farms resolve both IDs just fine, it is just this one that is having problems.  One difference between the two farms is that they are sitting in different Domains, so we are looking at anything that's different in how the Sharepoint servers are connected to the Domains...

If anyone has seen similar problems with their SharePoint installations, I'd love to hear about it!

Sharepoint 2010 document library files move

I have an interesting problem. Occurred only today, never seen this before.
I have a separate document library for weekly reports. Inside this library I have folders in which I have the actual documents. Now the documents are moving on their own to the upper level of this document library folder! 2 of my documents came out from 2 folders to the document library level.
Has anyone else had these kind of problems? is this just a bug on the  sharepoint Team Site or should I get worried about this?
I’m able to move the documents back to correct folder (using the Open with Explorer + Cut & Paste) but as soon as I edit those again the location is changed.

Problem with adding Content Database using STSADM command

Hi all,

I have SharePoint 2007 installed on Windows Server 2003 and Clustered SQL Server 2008 installed on Windows Server 2008.

I have an SQL content database that I need to add it to add it to the SharePoint using addcontentdb STSADM command.

When I execute the STSADM command to add the database, below error are returned:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a conne
ction to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that
 the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote
connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a conne
ction to SQL Server)

Note:

1- I checked the protocols settings for SQL: Shared Memory, TCP/IP, and Named Pipes. And all of them are enabled.

2- I checked that the Remote Connection on SQL Server are Enabled.

3- I checked for the port 1433 if it is open or no, and it is open and no problem with it.

4- The same error appear when I add content database from central admin >> Application Management >> Manage Content Database.

5- When I create new web application with new Site Collection from Central Admin no thing happen and every thing working fine.

6- The user that I used to execute the command, working on Central Admin, and the owner of the content database are same.

So please advice me about this issue.

Search Service Application

By default, SharePoint 2010 installation would install "Search Service Application" service.  Why do we need to create a new Search service for Crawling?  Can we use this default Search Service Application for the Enterprise search and crawling?

Sharepoint Annonomous Public Site

I currently have a WSS 3.0 Enviorment which is public facing but requires forms based logon.

What I would like to do is make this site Public without any user name or password required.

However at the same time, I need to grant people permissions to upload documents and approve items, the rest of the users should only be able to read.

How can you apply security when the site now requires no login?
