The Office Web Apps service on Local Computer started and then stopped

The service starts, then stops immediately (The Office Web Apps service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs).

The service properties are for Local System as the log on account.

Here is more of the Event log message: Service cannot be started. System.InvalidOperationException: The farm settings are invalid, so the AgentManager cannot start successfully. at Microsoft.Office.Web.Environment.WacServer.AgentManager.AgentController.ValidateFarmSettings() at Microsoft.Office.Web.Environment.WacServer.AgentManager.AgentController.StartAgents() at Microsoft.Office.Web.Environment.WacServer.AgentManager.AgentManagerApplication.OnStart(String[] args) at System.ServiceProcess.ServiceBase.ServiceQueuedMainCallback(Object state)

Any assistance would be very helpful.

Sharepoint online, permission levels by "subsite pages"

$

I hope someone will help me. I'm new to Sharepoint and getting a little confused with the permissions levels.

I'm using SharePoint online.I have a subsite containing around 5 pages, each page contains some document libraries and surveys. and groups of users, each group should be able to access ONLY items included in a specific page. so I was thinking, is there a way, to configure access and"use" of a specific page to a specific group.

users of group1 access all the material in page1, including document libraries and surveys.

I figured I need to stop inheritance for the document libraries and surveys by setting new permission levels, but how about the pages?

Can you please help with the "many" permission levels I should set in the top parent site? should I create a permission level by list/survey? by page? is there a way I could structure the permissions to keep it "somehow" clean.

Thank you!

Migrate users from SP2007 farm to SP2013 farm on new domain

I am working on a project, the requirement is to migrate the existing SharePoint 2007 farm (on Domain A) to SharePoint 2013 farm(on Domain B). Once SP2007 farm is migrated, the users should be able to access the new farm with old domain, i.e. Domain A. We are thinking of the following authentication options.

Kindly look into it and help us whether these options are technically feasible or not and some example migration projects.

Also, please provide us some links which help to migrate user profiles from SP2007 to SP2013.

Your help is very much appreciated!

Options:
1. Windows Authentication(On-premise)
   a. Client informed  us that there is a bidirectional trust between these 2 domains. We would like to propose to use the windows authentication in SP2013, as application can able to recognize users from both domains with trust.
   b. The user profiles from SP2007 will be migrated to SP2013.
2. Claims Authentication(On-premise)
   a. Considering future scalability, we would like to propose SAML token based authentication. So that it can be configured with different domain(s)/ADFS to authenticate users when there is any issue with establishing domain trust with other domains.
   b. The user profiles from SP2007 will be migrated to SP2013.

Thanks

Allow users to type just the subdomain in IE

We have a HNSC, https://eia.company.com. We'd like to allow users to type just the subdomain, https://eia, in their browser. When they reach the home page, it's OK if the address in IE is full URL.

Can this be accomplished without making changes to SharePoint or without a redirect page? Is there a way to do this only DNS changes? Thanks in advance!

Error 6857 / Non existant SMTP Host

Hello

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me.

I've setup our SharePoint 2013 Foundation server (Outgoing E-Mail Settings) to use our Exchange 2013 server to send mail but whenever I try and perform a test or use the a notification in SharePoint, I get an error in the Application Event Log.

It states "Cannot connect to SMTP host 192.168.1.16."

The trouble is that I've no idea where it's getting this IP from.  We don't use that IP range.  I've checked the local host file, registry and all NIC's plus it doesn't matter address (IP or hostname) I enter into SharePoint, it still tries to send to that address.

I have already disabled IPv6 to no avail.  I am successfully able to telnet across from the SharePoint server to the Exchange server so that's OK but any assistance will be gratefully received as this one has me baffled!

Thanks in advance

Richard

Hi,

I need to hide the timeline on the task list webpart on the allitems.aspx.

I know that I can manually configure the webpart to show the timeline or hide the timeline if the checkbox is unchecked. It is nice to do it manually, but I need to perform this configuration during deployment already.

How can I perform this task?

Hey all,

Please help me out with my issue what I am facing.

Now on I will call Office Web Apps as OWA & SharePoint as SP.

I installed OWA 2013 on one separate server and configure it for HTTP successfully & connected it to one SP 2013 front end server made bindings & everything working fine.

Now issue arise when OWA server is down, we are getting error page showing OWA server url port 80 url while opening any office & pdf file from SP site.

Is this intentionally or I missed any configuration.

Business Requirement: If OWA server is down files should open in Clients automatically that is installed on desktop of each user.

Issue with Overlay an Exchange calendar on a SharePoint calendar

Hi guys,

I am trying to setup overlay an Exchange calendar on a SharePoint calendar but after I add my exchange calendar I get this error

Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel with authority 'mail.FQDN'. (xxxxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-05b2b5b89d46)

When I looked at the ULS log files I can see the following errors reports:

SPSecurityContext: Could not retrieve a valid windows identity for username 'DOMAIN\USERNAME' with UPN 'USERNAME@FQDN'. UPN is required when Kerberos constrained delegation is used. Exception: System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): Access is denied    Server stack trace:

 at System.ServiceModel.Channels.AppContainerInfo.RunningInAppContainer()

 at System.ServiceModel.Channels.AppContainerInfo.get_IsRunningInAppContainer()

And also

An operation failed because the following certificate has validation errors:  Subject Name: CN=mail.FQDN, OU= Office, O=, L=, S=n, C= Issuer Name: CN= ".", C= Thumbprint: 0E5818DB5A3B3902B7A2544F88C99AD38FF9590B  Errors:   PartialChain: A certificate chain could not be built to a trusted root authority.  RevocationStatusUnknown: The revocation function was unable to check revocation for the certificate.  OfflineRevocation: The revocation function was unable to check revocation because the revocation server was offline.  .

I have tried to import my exchange cert to my SP server and still no luck.

I have aslo imported the SP root authority cer to the my SP server  using mms, and import cer file but still no luck.

My exchange server only setup for form authentication not windows. Do you think this is why I am not be able to setup that?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks, B

Hello SharePoint Fam,

Noticing that my memory usage is very high.  Have 16GB of memory and always around 85%-90% memory usage.

I noticed that there are 5 Search Components running, is this normal or is there anything I can do to get the memory usage down?  I only have one app server which is where Search runs on

Thanks n advance!

Does SP2013 on-premise support TLS 1.1 and 1.2?

$

We are planning to force our client (IE) to use TLS1.1 and 1.2 only. I am unfamiliar with TLS certs may I ask:

1. Does SP2013 on-premise support TLS 1.1 and 1.2? Currently we are using Win2008 as server.
2. If yes, do we need to configure anything in SharePoint in order to apply? I think we only need to replace the old SSL cert with a new one, change some registry, then reboot. Is it correct?

3. Any other advice? Thank you.

Is number of termset group have upper limit?

$

I want to restrict the access of 100 termsets to 100 different users within same site collection. According to this thread, it seems the only choice is to setup 100 term groups with Term Store Administrator.

Is there any concern? We have 100 site collections on this SP2013 on-premise farm. Hence we may end up have total 10000 global term groups there. Any limitation on termset groups? Any better alternative? Thanks.

Sideloading in SharePoint Online - still possible?

$

Background:

We're trying to program an app that'll sit in an AppPart in the Master Page for SharePoint Online sites; it'll manage navigation.  My developer has asked me to enabled sideloading for a test site collection.

My account is a Global Tenant Admin, as well as Primary Site Collection Administrator, and I'm following the instructions here:

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/officeapps/archive/2013/12/10/enable-app-sideloading-in-your-non-developer-site-collection.aspx

both to the letter, and with my own 'log on to SPO script (handles credentials slightly differently).  Both methods run

but I'm still getting:

Error encountered when trying to enable SideLoading feature https://{ourTenancy}sharepoint.com/sites/AppTest : Exception calling "ExecuteQuery" with "0" argument(s): "The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden."

Is there any chance that SideLoading has been disabled for some reason?

Edit: I'm aware that we can (and have in the interim) create a site from the Developer template that will allow our AppPart to sit in the master page.

Open with explorer - add your website to Trusted Sites list

I found a lot of topics regarding this issue, but none of it could solve my issue.

  • The client :Windows 7 64 Bit, IE 11, Office 2010, Lync 2013
  • The Server : Windows 2008 R2 with Sharepoint 2013 & latest patches

The server is not in the same domain as the client!

I added the website to the trusted sites, rebooted several times but the issue remains.

I changed the registry settings as described in this thread by sgjtd.  But none of this could help :(.

Any other suggestion that might help me?

Feature Id is not installed

I am in the process of creating a sharepoint 2013 site collection and received the error below:

Feature with Id 'cce226d2-d7b9-44fb-b5be-a1ccf91cbd90' is not installed in this farm, and cannot be added to this scope

Moving sharepoint 2010 to 2013 on new server.

Had just created a new web application.

Template selection is 2013, Team Project Portals.

I am not sure what "feature" ID it is referring to.

Change service accounts, post-installation

On a new standalone build (details below), the SharePoint Health Analyzer in Central Administration states that "server farm account should not be used for other services". Details for the error are below.

BUILD: New stand-alone installation of Sharepoint 2013 Foundation SP1 (build 15.0.4569.1506) virtual (Hyper-V) server on Windows 2012 Standard R2 (4 CPU cores, and 12GB RAM) with SQL 2008 Express.

Looking back at the installation notes, it is only now that I realize I neglected to create the 1) SQL server service account, 2) setup user account, and 3) server farm account. :X

So, now I'm concerned with whether 1) my installation is stable (since I didn't create and use a "setup account" to run the installation to begin with), 2) which accounts are assigned to which services, and 3) how/if I can change them (without having to rebuild the site!...although worst case scenario, hoping a backup and site restore onto another server is...easy enough...and won't carry my mistakes with it?)...

:(

When I go to services.msc, the services just say they are using a NETWORK SERVICE. When I go to Central Administration > Security, and choose a Service account to change, the only options are "Network Service" or "Local Service".

If this is all even possible, do I need to: 1) create these accounts in AD as Domain Users (any format, like: sp_farm and  sp_sqladmin ?),  2) "Register the new managed account" in Central Administration, and 3) set the accounts in Central Management > Security: Service Accounts?

Do I need to go to services.msc and apply the accounts to the services as well? Do I need to go into SQL Server Configuration Manager and change the SQL Server Log On account? Should all of the accounts in the message below have their own service account associated, or can they all use the same? (The TechNet installation notes only reference creating the 3 above, although other user sites suggest creating others.)Which drop down option is the SPUserCodeV4 (in the error below) in the 'Central Adminstration > Security: Service Accounts' drop down menu?

Sorry for all the questions, but MANY thanks for your recommendations!
