Change service accounts, post-installation

$

On a new standalone build (details below), the SharePoint Health Analyzer in Central Administration states that "server farm account should not be used for other services". Details for the error are below.

BUILD: New stand-alone installation of Sharepoint 2013 Foundation SP1 (build 15.0.4569.1506) virtual (Hyper-V) server on Windows 2012 Standard R2 (4 CPU cores, and 12GB RAM) with SQL 2008 Express.

Looking back at the installation notes, it is only now that I realize I neglected to create the 1) SQL server service account, 2) setup user account, and 3) server farm account. :X

So, now I'm concerned with whether 1) my installation is stable (since I didn't create and use a "setup account" to run the installation to begin with), 2) which accounts are assigned to which services, and 3) how/if I can change them (without having to rebuild the site!...although worst case scenario, hoping a backup and site restore onto another server is...easy enough...and won't carry my mistakes with it?)...

:(

When I go to services.msc, the services just say they are using a NETWORK SERVICE. When I go to Central Administration > Security, and choose a Service account to change, the only options are "Network Service" or "Local Service".

If this is all even possible, do I need to: 1) create these accounts in AD as Domain Users (any format, like: sp_farm and  sp_sqladmin ?),  2) "Register the new managed account" in Central Administration, and 3) set the accounts in Central Management > Security: Service Accounts?

Do I need to go to services.msc and apply the accounts to the services as well? Do I need to go into SQL Server Configuration Manager and change the SQL Server Log On account? Should all of the accounts in the message below have their own service account associated, or can they all use the same? (The TechNet installation notes only reference creating the 3 above, although other user sites suggest creating others.)Which drop down option is the SPUserCodeV4 (in the error below) in the 'Central Adminstration > Security: Service Accounts' drop down menu?

Sorry for all the questions, but MANY thanks for your recommendations!

Migrated from Sharepoint 2010 to 2013 and now I have many duplicate users

I migrated some sites from SharePoint 2010 to a new SharePoint 2013 install and exported and imported the sites with security. I am using domain users for all of my permissions, and now when I go into SharePoint Designer to create a new workflow, in my user list for a lot of my users I have two entries.. one with DOMAIN\userID and one i:0#.w|DOMAIN\userID.  How can I go about cleaning up this list?  which is my current domain vs what was brought over in the export/import process?

Sharepoint 2013 Foundation - Cannot get listview search box to display

I have the option checked to "Display Search Box" in the app part properties.  The list view is using the Default style.  I have added an app part to a page with a view other than All Items.  However, I still have not had any luck in getting a search box to appear.  Is this because we're using Foundation or is there anything else to try?

SharePoint HelpWindowKey/context-sensitive help functionality

Hello,

I am running SharePoint 2013 On Premise. If I run a search where no results are returned, I get a bulleted list of suggestions to try:

- Make sure all words are spelled correctly
- Try different search terms
- Try more general search terms
- Try fewer search terms
- Try these tips for searching

"tips for searching" is hyperlinked to javascript:HelpWindowKey("WSSEndUser_SearchTips"). You would think that clicking the link would take you to a list of end user search tips. Instead the resulting pop-up window simply says, "Need assistance? Use the search box to tell us what you're looking for and we'll do our best to find an answer."

It seems that the Help system's functionality is flawed on my installation. Can anyone provide guidance on how to get it working as expected? Thanks very much.

Does using both FBA and AD require manual selection of authentication type?

$

We have SharePoint Standard 2013 set up and working well authenticating to Active Directory. Internally, users can connect without being prompted (uses the users AD username and password.) All vanilla. We also have an external domain that points to the same site. When a user connects over the Internet, it prompts them for their AD username and password. Again, vanilla and working as expected.

To complicate matters, the SharePoint install has three Web Apps, each accessed through the same domain, just different port numbers. Again, no issues there internally or externally.

OK, so now we want to add Forms-Based Authentication, so here are my questions:

  1. ideally, we'd like to provide full access to all three Web Apps for both FBA and AD users. But my understanding is that if we do so on all three Web Apps, when a user logs in, regardless of location, they will have to manually select either AD or FBA. In configuring it this way, we loose the seamless internal AD authentication. Is this correct? External isn't an issue. We want to maintain internal seamless AD authentication.
  2. Further, we will have to maintain three separate FBA user accounts because sites are spread across three Web Apps. Is this correct? This is not an issue, just an inconvenience.

So unless I am missing something, it seems to me that if we want the convenience of providing access to EVERYTHING to both FBA and AD users, then we lose the convenience of seamless AD authentication internally.

Maybe we should just create a fourth Web Application intended for sharing files externally via FBA and AD and be done with it.

Suggestions?

Multiple Index server on SharePoint 2013?

Hi, I have 7 Web Applications and total size is 12 GB for all web app.

So to avoid performance issue and reduce crawl time for these web applications, I decided to create 2 index servers and 2 Search service application. First Search SA will associated with 3 web applications and Second Search SA will associated with remaining 4 web applications.

So my question is can I assign or run First Search SA crawl on first index server and can run Second Search SA crawl on second index server?

Please guide me that is this better approach and can I perform practically above approach.

Using external user as site collection administrator in SharePoint Online

Hi,

Is there a way to make a user who isn't a member of my Office 365 tenant a site collection administrator in SharePoint Online? (Preferably a plain Microsoft account with an Outlook address.)

Basically I have a software that requires site collection administrator privilages to access data from SharePoint, and I (my company) don't want to waste making a new tenant user just for this software. (And for a number of other reasons an external user would be highly preferred.)

Hello Experts,

Hello Experts,

Need your help to get rid of this orphan term showing up under system drop down?

 I have removed everything related to this term including list items that has this attached to as metadata + empty the recycle bins. But not able to get rid of this

I find this thread about the same issue but not able to find any content or term this is shared with. Any help?

How to change host header for a site

$

Hi,

I installed sharepoint foundation 2013 and was trying to change the host header for the sharepoint application.

I used sharepoint central administration to remove sharepoint application from the IIS site (without deleting the site) and after that extend the application to the site again, this time using the host header.

The problem is that I lost the access to the website, I couldn't access the site anymore ("this site hasn't been shared with you")

Of course I tried to manage users and permissions using the sharepoint central administration, but I couldn't get access to the application again. If I create a new application the result is the same.

I uninstalled sharepoint foundation, installed again and don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Thank you for any help.

Hi,

We have 2013 farm with 2 WFE/2 APP servers. This is happening only  APP1 and WFE 1 Servers. I have checked following and farm
account is already add as log on as a service.

Go to Administrative Tools—Local Security Policy—Maximize Local Policies—-Click “User Rights Assignment”—Click “Log on as a service” in right window pane, Add a SP Timer Service Account in here.

Kindly advise what could be another issue and how to fix it.

Minimal Download Strategy causes never-ending page reload

Hello everyone.

I have a very tricky problem- then user tries to change user properties on my sites(entering to /_layouts/15/EditProfile.aspx page) - it just immediatly reloads without any signs of end. Every other page on user's personal site opens just fine.

This happens in every browser and with every user so far and only solution i can find is just disabling MDS feature.

I'm curios - is there any better workaround for this?

Thanks in advance

There is already a term with the same default label and parent term

I am using SP2013 on-premise standard edition and we tried to update the user profile with a PowerShell script. Unfortately, part of profiles cannot be updated. The exception is "There is already a term with the same default label and parent term".

The update field is a custom field named CustBusinesUnit (String - single value). The field is bind to a custom termset CustBusinesUnit. The field's value is not coming from AD sync. The value is updated by PowerShell half year ago. It was updated successfully. However, when we update again recently exception is threw.

Here is part of PowerShell:

$profileproperty = $upm.GetUserProfile($user.AccountName)
            $updateFlag = $false
            $upProperties | foreach-object {
                 $curField = $_
                if ($user.$_ -ne $null) {
                    if ($profileproperty[$_].Value -eq $user.$_  -or ($profileproperty[$_].Value -eq $null -and $user.$_ -eq '')) {
                    } else {
                        $profileproperty[$_].Value = $user.$_
                        $profileproperty.Commit()
                   }
                }
            }

As you can see, we directly update the field like a normal string field (not treating it as taxonomy). However, when we run it on test environment, even the term is existing, we never encounter exception. I don't know why the titled error occur.

Dear all,

I want to disable the data compression for granular backup purposes on SQL 2014.

I found this command, but it only works for TFS databases:

EXEC [dbo].[prc_EnablePrefixCompression] @online = 0, @disable = 1

So my question is:

How to disable data compression on SQL 2014 for a SharePoint 2013 content database

Thank you very much!

Safari continuous login popup issue with SharePoint 2013 site

$

Hello,

We have a secure (https) SharePoint site which continuously prompt for login even if we provide correct credentials when we open the site in Safari. This site opens fine when we open in IE, Chrome, Firefox browsers.

The above behavior occurs when we use Safari browser on Windows desktop, iPad, iPhone. On the same server we have other SharePoint site which is not secure (http) which works fine on Safari browser.

Is there any specific setting that needs to be done for secured SharePoint sites?

Thank you.
