I took an admin course before the company I work for bought a Sharepoint Enterprise server mainly for BI. 

I am now thinking that I should have done more of the Site collection admin course because after watching some MVA's I really should not have used the config wizard. ( But it was SOOOOO Pretty ). 

I have created some web apps and on each a site collection for the site. Yup apparently that is not really good. 

Now I am trying to build an intranet site and pull data from each of those sites. well I bet you know how this is going.....

So I need to Move these sites to a Host-Path right? Trying to follow https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc424952.aspx 

but my first problem is that port 80 was already used so I quickly changed the main web app to 8080.

I guess I am saying there there a Noob guide to how to convert all these web apps into one? Searching has failed me so far. 


Versioning disable after migration to SharePoint 2013 on document library

After migration from SP2010 to SP2013, the versioning has got disabled. Please suggest if it is a known issue with the product or provide suitable reason for the same.

FYI- the migraiton was successful and done as per microsoft's guidelines

How Safe is SharePoint 2013's Extranet?

I have a client that really is uncomfortable having SharePoint 2013 even physically attached to his Domain. He set it up, on a separate VLAN.

I showed him articles that show it is designed for such use:

But still not convinced - and I am not either. I know SharePoint is best on a Production Domain; makes for more seamless functionality. But the idea of contractors and other accessing it, from the outside, unnerves  them.

So, how can we be assured that installing it, in a production Domain is a safe as a VLAN? Or can we be?

How to use Excel import APP in sharepoint?

I have export an excel from sharepoint list , include a field name created by , as you know this field's type is person/group.

Then I want to import this excel into a new sharepoint list , so I use Excel import APP .

After import the field "create by " 's type change to single Text  .

How can I import this field as person or group??

Setting up URLs in Central Admin for multiple WFE servers

I am familiar with setting up internal and external URLs inside mappings inside the Central Admin for sites with one web front end server - however I am unsure what to set these values to for when you have multiple web front end servers.

What is the best way to set up URLs inside Central Admin for multiple WFE servers?

Windows Server 2012 with latest updates and SharePoint 2013 with latest updates:

I installed SharePoint 2013 Service Pack 1 and when I run the configuration Wizard i get this error:

User Profile Synchronization service is stuck on starting after changing farm account in SharePoint 2013. Deleted and re-created user profile but no luck. It still gets stuck on starting. any help will be appreciated.

Firewall rules between SharePoint farm and Provider hosted apps platform

Hi there - we are setting up a Provider hosted apps platform and I can't find any documentation about firewall configuration between the 2 platforms. Does anyone have any links? Does the end user need to connect to the Provider hosted apps platform or is all the comms between Provider hosted apps and SharePoint internal?

     We have requirement from client SharePoint 2013 as a Front End and Filent as Back  END. We are able to setup everything  without SSO. What is the best approach to achieve SSO for SharePoint and Filenet.

We've web application for intranet site AAM is configured as following

default : http://sharepoint:13445

Intranet: http://sharepoint.intranet.stdf.com

The default http://sharepoint:13445 is accessible by all users but when try to log usinghttp://sharepoint.intranet.stdf.com only system account can other users including site admin cannot, what could be the reason.

Sending Alerts to Universal Security group - SharePoint 2013

Hi,

I have come across an issue in my SharePoint 2013 environment where I am unable to resolve a "Universal" Security group while setting up alerts on document library. However I am able to resolve the same group in people picker while granting it access on a site. 

The group has a email ID associated to it. So this is checked.

Any thing else that might be restricting this group from getting added for alerts?

Title says it all.  As soon as Forms is up and running, all possible access to the site is lost.  I can set access to anonymous (via powershell only) and I get access back.  After turning anonymous back off, access is lost in the next hour or so again.  To be clear, neither forms or claims works after forms is set up.  My site collection admin has no access to his site.  Also I can access CA, but as soon as a click something I am prompted (and the prompt is broken).

I'm using this method.  I've now built this server from the ground up twice.  Help!

Hello there!
Becoming more and more frustrated . maybe someone here can help a poor austrian (no Kangaroos!).

I cant acess certain fields in my.site @ sharepoint. (like school, ask me about, Past Projects...) All i get is

"There was a problem retrieving data for this field. Updating values in this field is disabled temporarily"

Services are running
Service Application is the default storage  location for keywords
Service Application is the default storage location for column specific term sets

Service Application is checked in the default proxy group...

ServiceAccount from Mysite is granted read and write permission on Metadata


Any more input would be highly appreciated!

Very slow page approval workflow

We have a publishing site collection that uses the built-in page approval workflow to publish pages. When an approver tries to approve a pending task, it takes about 30 seconds before the approval form actually loads. The specific page is /_layouts/15/WrkTaskIP.aspx.

In a new site collection in the same farm, the issue is the same. In a publishing site collection in a different farm, the issue does not exist. The same page approval workflow form appears in under 1 second.

The slow farm has SP1 plus Oct 2014 CU. The quick farm only has SP1. I have tried looking through all the more recent CUs but cannot find any related fixes. I could use trial and error to install various CUs to fix the problem but am also worried about other issues this may introduce.

Here are some of the errors I see in my ULS logs when a workflow approval form is loading. not sure if they are all relevant:

  • "Failed to get SPGroupName from GroupID. Error Message: Group cannot be found."
  • "user does not exist or is not unique"
  • "PermissionMask check failed. asking for 0x00000005, have 0x2000011001" (and other similar)

Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions on resolving? Perhaps you know of a specific CU that resolves this issue, or some other way to fix this.

Can any one help me in setting public URL for the web application hosted on Azure VM. I registered a domain name for public IP address of the VM. I have been trying to extend the application to internet but not able to do that. I have also st up the form based authentication with aspnetdb membership role.

I am an administrator on our new SP 2013 intranet site.  I need to log out and log back in as a lower level user with one of my test accounts.  The problem is that SP 2013 no longer has the "log in with another account" link and when I log out of SP 2013 and re-open the browser it always caches my credentials and logs me in on my administrator account.  Suggestions please?  I've tried all the browsers at my disposal.

There are no mistakes; every result tells you something of value about what you are trying to accomplish.

People Picker Search with 2 Forests

Hello,

We are having an issue with getting our People Picker to work the way we would like. Basically we have two forests setup in a two way trust, but we are unable to find users in the other domain through the trust, it only resolves the user account in the local forest (we are syncing objects as part of domain migration). Here is our environment:

Forest and Domain 1 (Domain1.Forest1.com)

Forest and Domain 2 (Domain2.com)

The SharePoint servers are located in Domain1.Forest1.com. There are user objects in Domain1.Forest1.com, and looking up these users works as expected; you start typing a name like John and all the John's from Domain1.Forest1.com appear in the dropdown. However no John's from Domain2.com appear.

We have configured two people picker properties, one that says which domains to look in and the other an LDAP filter which filters out user objects where the field targetAddress is filled in. We also have configured the User Profile Service to sync objects from both forests.

So here is where it gets tricky, all the user objects in Domain2.com have been copied over to an OU in Domain1.Forest1.com and are synced every hour with changes. This is part of our migration process. When I do search for John like before I see all the Johns in Domain1.Forest1.com but none from Domain2.com; I even see the synced User Objects in Domain1.Forest1.com from Domain2.com eventhough my LDAP filter should exclude them (I tested my LDAP filter in ADUC and it worked). And as for User Profile Sync, we are sycing the users from both forests but excluding the OU where the synced objects are created in Domain1.Forest1.com.

Does anyone have any idea how to get the people picker to show all of the John's from Domain1.Forest1.com and Domain2.com, and to respect the LDAP filter which will exclude the synced objects.

Google Analytics Lumping Together List Items After 2013 Upgrade

We recently upgraded our farm from 2010 to 2013 on-prem. We had been using Google Analytics to track our usage in 2010, and while I'm excited for the new SP13 analytics engine I want to still record usage with GA to benchmark against our historical data.

I added the GA tracking code to my master pages and it seemed to be working great - same daily visitor count, page views, top pages... all our key metrics. But now I realize that for our corporate news list, it's no longer tracking each list item individually but instead just reporting back one lump sum number for all list items. The URL structure hasn't changed -- https://root/news/lists/posts/post.aspx?List=xyz&ID=xyz&ContentTypeId=xyz -- but GA seems to no longer be segmenting out the different IDs. 

Has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas how I could fix it?
