Disaster Recovery for AppStore

Hi All

I'm in need of disaster recovery plan for SP Apps and appstore. Right now, when we do content database backup in prod and restore in DR, we get the site collection and all associated content back. However installed apps fail to work again which is kind of expected as app id is unique for each installation. We have to delete existing app and reinstall it again. Sometimes this results in loss of data as well. The basic idea is that in case of DR, we should failover and users expect their apps to continue to work as they always have.

Thanks Mohit

Configuration Wizard Failed

I installed French language pack for SharePoint, and after running the configuration wizard, am getting:

an exception of type system.xml.xmlexception was thrown the xml declaration must be the first node in the document. Unexpected xml declaration. The XML declaration must be the first node in the document, and no white space characters are allowed to appear before it. Line 2, position 3.

What's wrong here? I tried to uninstall the language pack, run the configuration wizard, but the problem is not there. I am facing this issue when am trying to do some stuff in sharepoint like allowing anonymous access for web application.

After installation i've got an error:

but since Sharepoint Server 2013 didn't removed himself, i tried to set up a server. Setup was successful and i've got server address (http://[name]:[port]/default.aspx).

Before this i reinstall my server and requirements for like 5 times because i always get an error.

PS My system is completely clean (Windows 8.1 with latest updates and sharepoint prerequisite only). I dont have anything else ( + 7zip).

How do i fix this?

I have created Windows-2012 R2 instance and installed SP-2013 and SQL server. I created a site collection at default machinename:80. How to access this site using the public URL of the Azure server.

If I can access this site collection using this Azure server public url, then I will create a new domain pointing to the public IP of the Server.

Sharepoint migration from 2010 to 2013, problems with login.

Hi

I have a SharePoint 2010, that I want to upgrade to SharePoint 2013.

I have done this.

But after the upgrade, I can’t login to SharePoint portal. Admin still works.

When I try to login to the portal, it will ask me for username / Password 3. Times.

In the event log I have this (3 times) An account failed to log on.

And I got this from my sharepoint logs:

Claims Windows Sign-In: Sending 401 for request 'http://intranet/' because the user is not authenticated and resource requires authentication.          19f7129d-ab01-5061-cac2-f1555d4c2231

I know my username and password is correct.

Before I restore the SharePoint 2010 database, I could logon and was getting an empty SharePoint site.

Could anyone help me in the right direction?

Hello Team,

Greetings for the day!

I have 2 Windows server 2012, with Network Load Balancing role enabled on it, on both the server sharepoint 2010 R2 (Sharepoint Farm) is installed. I have enabled Network load balancer, with total of 5 IPS assigned between those 2 server.

The sharepoint site is working very slow some time (1min 30 sec), and sometime it respond very quickly(10 sec).

I have verified both the server performance which is more than good.

Me not sure what can I troubleshoot it further, I am also not sure how to check which server the request is going.

Help me coming out of this situation and optimize the performance.

I tried to disable the NLB and run the page but was with no luck.

Finally, I got antivirus disabled and the site was responding in less than 3 seconds.

Further, I concluded to excluded all the recommended list of folder from antivirus scan. below is the list for the same. But with NO LUCK, me again facing the same problem the site is still very slow. We are using Trend Micro Antivirus.

Cannot log on to newly created site

I just setup a new install of SharePoint 2013 on a two tier operation. SP on one server and SQL on the other.

SP 2013 has all updates to include SQL 2014 with all updates.

I created the central Admin site just fine.

I created a new web app and site collection no errors.

When I click on the link to go to the site for the first time I get a log on box. I put the farm account in there which is also the site collection administrator. I can not get to the home page.

Anonymous is selected along with port 80 a standard site.

I did access the site by going through the back end by going here but still had trouble granting access to others I received this error:  Sorry, we're having trouble reaching the server.

The back end URL: http://domain.site.com/_layouts/15/settings.aspx

SPP-SPO one way outbound hybrid on Azure VM

Hi,

I would like to know if an Azure VM can be used to create a one way outbound hybrid. So basically I'm trying to avoid using a public domain by creating SPP on an Azure VM. I currently have an O365 E1 licence with exchange. So far all results on Technet and MSDN suggest that a public domain is a must. Any help would be very much appreciated.

TIA

Site Upgrade Log - Failed Health Rule Missing Site Templates

$

A massive portal is being migrated and I am reviewing a log file which is listing A LOT of Warnings and Failed health rule stating missing Site Templates. The site collection/sites/subsites are coming from SharePoint 2010. There are quite a few custom solutions, some active, some not in the 2010 portal.

Do all of these solutions, whether activated or not need to be migrated over into the 2013 environment first before performing visual upgrade on the sites?

Something else that is confusing me, in the log file it is appending a # and a number at the end of each failure. For example:

Failed Health Rule Missing Site Templates:     - http://site/subsite - #1

Failed Health Rule Missing Site Templates:     - http://site/anothersubsite - #2

What are the numbers at the end?

Is there a detailed list I can find of which files are causing the visual upgrade issues exactly?

Thank you for your help, I greatly appreciate it!

SharePoint with DPM

Hi, if I use DPM with SharePoint for item level restores can I also take SQL backups of the content databases? I assume that DPM and SQL would share the same backup chain and so this would be problematic. Is this true? How does DPM interact with the database files from a SQL perspective?

I want to have SQL backups of content databases so that I can restore them if we need to rebuild farm.

Could I have DPM protecting my AOAG instances but take SQL backups of a readonly secondary replica?

Thanks.

Help Configuring Sharepoint 2013 Foundation Audit Settings

$

We are trying to configure auditing for our SharePoint 2013 Foundation site. Apparently the way to do this is to go to Site Settings > Site Collection Administration > Site Collection Audit Settings. There is no Site Collection Audit Settings choice under Site Collection Administration. We are logging in to the site as the system account.

Are we missing something? Is there another way to enable auditing?

QuickEdit view displaying with Access Icon

$

Can anyone explain why, when creating a new Datasheet list view in SharePoint 2013, it sometimes displays as the new QuickEdit view, and other times as the Access Web Datasheet view?

I manage a SharePoint 2013 farm that has several Site Collections and multiple Sites in each. I recently did a database migration from SharePoint 2010.

Now, on almost all of the lists in the various Site Collections when I create a new Datasheet view, it creates a QuickEdit view of the list. However, sometimes the Datasheet view displays as the Access Web Datasheet view (with the "A" icon in the upper left-hand corner).

What determines whether a newly created Datasheet view displays as the new SharePoint 2013 QuickEdit view, whereas other times it displays as an Access Web Datasheet?

I've searched the web over, and can't seem to find any information about how to manage this choice.

I was planning on providing screenshots, but my account needs to verified first.

SharePoint 2013 Productivity Hub Desired

I am not sure how many of you has heard of or used the SharePoint 2010 Productivity Hub.  One of the best resources Microsoft has put out in my opinion for Microsoft products in general.  I know 2013 is just starting to ramp up, but I am going to get the fires lit so we can see this for the newest version of SharePoint.  Microsoft, on behalf of the SharePoint community I ask that you continue to make available this great resource for SharePoint 2013.

Thank you in Advance!

Hello!

I have a SharePoint 2013 site running fine, and I want to add the Office Web Apps server to the environment.  The SP server is on a physical machine, and the Office Web Apps server is a VM.

The installation is OK, but the Office Web Apps Service will not start:

The Sp server and the Office Web Apps VM server are on the same domain.

Here is the Event Log error:

Hi,

we would like to make intranet organization SharePoint portal accessible as externally by AD users. this portal has a lots of secure documents contents(PHI) so security is major concern. we are planning to install SharePoint web front end in another different sub net (DMZ) to approach external portal. so what is best way to design architecture to overcome security concerns?

we are planning to install SharePoint web front end in DMZ network which will communicate to sql server which resides in internal network of organization. is it correct approach to address or any security risks? if not then what would be best way to address this issue and make our portal more secure?

Thanks,

Deepak Patel
