Default save location Word when creating new document from SharePoint library

Hi all,

we have a strange problem on our new SharePoint environment, when saving a document (Word 2007) which was created by choosing "new" in a document library the default save location does not point to the library but to the My Documents folder (local) instead. This is done from a Windows 7 machine with office 2007.

Any idea's? I can't find any documentation about the problem or a solution within CA or Word.

Can't add User with Administrator, Domain Admin rights to Farm Administrator group

I have  SharePoint 2007 SP2 installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.

I am logging onto the server through RDP as a user who is a member is a member of the BUILTIN/Administrators , Domain Admins and Enterprise Admins Groups. However, I get a login box when I try to use Central Administration (BUILTIN\Administrators is a member of the Farm Administrator's group so I should be able to use Central Administration) I get this error:

Error message 401.2.: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration.  Verify that you have permission to view this directory or page based on the credentials you supplied and the authentication methods enabled on the Web server.  Contact the Web server's administrator for additional assistance.

Thinking that somehow SharePoint is not honoring the BUILTIN\Administrators group, I tried to add the username to the Farm Administrators group directly and get this error:

Local administrator privilege is required to update the Farm Administrators' group.

My only clue as to what is wrong is that since this machine is a Domain Controller (you cannot see Local Users and Groups in the Computer Management snap-in) the BUILTIN\Administrators group has less rights than it does on a normal server. On other farms I have built with users having BUILTIN\Admnistrators rights I have never had a problem adding them to the Farm Administrator's group.

Does anybody have a clue what is going on?

Hi I have many sharpeoint custom document libraries.When iam on office network then thats fine but when working at home,i want to open any custom library i need and make changes.When once i again connect to office network it should update in the document library..

Can not rename a folder

Dear All,

I am facing this odd problem where despite having full control over a shared folder I cant change its name both in 'explorer view' and in  'edit properties' .

  • In 'explorer view ' I get 'can not rename, cannot read from source file or disk'
  • In 'edit properties ' I get the following message 'an unexpected error has occurred '

this is quite odd as I can rename other folders on the same location. Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

AD Account get locked out when accessing a certain sub site

We have two users that are able to connect into our global intranet site and conduct business as usual.  But for some reason when they connect to a certain sub site that they have right too they connect in work with the site for awhile and get locked out.  The next time they try and access the site they get access denied.  We remove their account from the site and re-add it and it works for a short period of time and it happens again, locked out that is.  We have had them clear their IE cache, reset their AD password, use another machine and it still happens.  Any idea why this would happen?

Sharepoint 2010 blog post (category wise) approval

I have creted a blog, where i have 5 categories... i want that whenever a user creats a post it shud come to the prementioned category wise approver for approval

    User posts a response on a blog topic
    Post is not visible until it is approved
    Mail should be flowed to the approver for approving the post
    Post is reviewed by Approver
    Post reviewed and status updated:  Approved - Post becomes visible, poster is notified;  Rejected - Post is not visible, poster is notified

Unable to delete web application - sharepoint administrative framework error

All,

 

I have a web application - no site collections, no content databases.

I've tried time and time again to delete it and every time I receive the following error in Central Admin:

 

An object in the SharePoint administrative framework, "SPWebApplication Name=SharePoint - Estate Portal Parent=SPWebService", could not be deleted because other objects depend on it.  Update all of these dependants to point to null or different objects and retry this operation.  The dependant objects are as follows:

I have so far, tried:

Removing it via Central Admin

Removing it via STSADM

Associating it with a different SSP than all the other Web apps

Re-creating a new site collection and content DB for it, and then re-deleting it

Restarting the Timer service

 

 

I guess I just don't understand what it is that's preventing the deletion? Clearly there is something somewhere that depends on this web app - so that's why it can't be deleted, but how can I identify it?

Sharepoint libary access by OWA 2010 (Exchange 2010+sp1)

Hello,

In our company we have many mobile workres that use OWA 2010 to access e-mail msg, and we use sharepint server 2010 +sp1 to host our documents.  Is there a way to show sharepoint libary in OWA 2010, not linking libary to oultook client.

Cannot paste excel data (multiple rows) into the datasheet view of a SharePoint 2007 list, even in a scaled down testing view.

Particulars:  The list contains several single line of text fields, a couple multiple lines of text,  a few choice columns, Person or group columns and a few date columns.  All of the multiple lines of text have been changed to be plain text per one of the blog posts on this site. Versioning is turned off. I do have management of content types turned on, but while testing this I have reverted every single field (on all content types) to optional.  Ideally we were using the ID field to increment an ID number when a new entry is created, however the view that I have been testing on does not contain this field.  The view I am using to test only contains a choice column, a date, and 3 text fields.   There is no columns showing “read only “ when selecting individually them in datasheet view. 
So when I attempt to copy/paste a single row of data into the 5 fields, it works ok but still says columns that require data are not included in this view, but EVERY column in the list is set to optional... Is this because of the “out of the box” columns like submitted by & ID (even if they are not on this view)are still mandatory?
I hope to get this working because clients need a way to keep an updated spreadsheet and be able to upload large amounts of data.  The sharepoint/excel sync  plugin has failed to work also.

Web application Time Zone settings

Hi,

       We are having a Sharepoint application server in EST and a DB server in GMT . The Web app that hosts the sharepoint site is configured to follow EST under the web app general setting but within the sites the file/folder modified time is under GMT .

Can some one sort out this issue .

MOSS 2007 - what timer job\action updates the tp_deleted column in the userinfo table

I am having an issue where a couple of users which have been created by our fba, are randomly being made 'inactive' in the userinfo table for a MOSS 2007 web application.  I can see that the tp_deleted column has been updated to make the user inactive but I need to find out what is causing the column to be updated?

The action has not been made by a manual intervention so I am leaning towards it being a timer job that is changing the users to be 'inactive', has anyone experienced this before? I am understood that the profile synchronisation timer job doesn't update forms based users only AD user accounts, is this correct?

Cuando voy a crear una audiencia, al añadir una regla, me ocurre el siguiente error al intentar selecciona un grupo de AD:

“No security groups or distribution lists were found based on your search request. Refine the search text, and the rerun the search request”

Los perfiles los importa correctamente.

Otro MOSS atacando al mismo AD funciona correctamente.

User automatically getting deleted from site collection

In one of my site collection a particular user (at least I’m aware) is getting deleted. This happened 3rd times in almost 8 months.  Last time when it happened I kind of blamed the site collection administrators that they may have removed the user from the site collection and suggested auditing be turned on. We at the end decided against the auditing to avoid extra load on the server.

Now that particular user is gone again from the site collection - hence lost membership from all sites and groups. When I’m querying the UserInfo table I see two instances of that user (one with tp_title resolved to the display name and the other one shows as his email address): below are my observations –

1.       Tp_isactive is false (0) for both records

2.       One (tp_title resolved to display name) with Tp_Deleted field value  60 – other account (2nd record) has this value empty

3.       2nd record (tp_title email address) for this user  has the Tp_ExternalTokenLastUpdated field populated with todays date and time whereas this column is null for the other record (which has 60 on tp_Deleted column)

What I understand since tp_inactive field is set to 0 – user lost permissions. Any suggestions what may be happening here (I know this time no one deleted this user)?  

This is a forms authenticated MOSS 2007 site with August 2010 CU applied.

User Profile Replication Engine: full replication of only certain accounts

I've configured the user profile replication engine to do incremental replication between two geographically separate farms and this works ok. But how can I replicate the profile info of all users that belong to a particular group?  Our two farms have been up and running awhile and so the users of each farm already have profile data. When I setup incremental replication it will only get NEW changes.  I can't do a full replication to or from the remote farm because each farm is the 'home' for a subset of users and a full replication would over-write the profile info on the destination farm.

I want to do a "partial-full" replication - ideally respecting the settings in the "trusted my site host locations", but we could base the replication on AD groups also.

Any Suggestions?   Thanks.

people picker cannot detect the users from active directory

Hi,

I am working on moss 2007,where i have created mysite.But while adding collegue to mysite people picker could detect only few users.Not all the users from active directory can be seen.Users are already imported from activedirectory to the database.please help me out..

.xls-file opens in browser instead of excel 2007

Hello,

a user in our company can't open excel-files on the SharePoint 2007 in Excel 2007 on his PC anymore. If he clicks on it, the file opens directly in the browser (Internet Explorer 8 64 bit). The problem doesn't occur if another user logs onto the domain on the same PC. It also doesn't occur if the respective user uses another PC.

The PC is running on Windows 7 64 bit. Which settings do I have to change so that the user can edit his files in Excel again?

Dealing with renaming a sharepoint server

Right now, we have a machine with a portal name (a CNAME record) and a server name. Unfortunately, people have been using in their bookmarks, sharepoint web parts, documents, etc. a mix of the two.

Now we want to insert an F5 load balancer. But, of course, that's only going to work for the CNAME record. The traffic referring to the server name would bypass the load balancer. To get around that, we would need to "rename the SharePoint server" and then create a second alias in the load balancer to the new name.

That seemed "simple" enough. But the team responsible for the load balancer warns us that we have to be careful not to use the names being handled by the router from within the machine, or redirection loops will occur and actions will fail. They have told us that we would need to change things so that they used the "new" server name.

So, is there a documented process for changing an existing MOSS SP 2007 server's name in a situation like this?

Cannot find the proper backup files to restore. Verify that the directory name is valid and that the backup file exists.any ideas to solve this error

How to make a custom column unique in sharepoint?

in sharepoint i created workflow, and in tasks lists i added 3 custom columns

my requirement is in those 3 , 1 column should be unique, For example, i added columns, empId,name dept,

in those empId should be unique, if any one who enter the same empId while creating, it won't accept,

is it possible?

AD - Sharepoint 2007 Group Synchronization after AD Group Rename

Hello all,

I have a little bit of a mess on my hands.  Recently, we renamed several hundred AD groups to accommodate our IDM processes.   I had absolutely no idea Sharepoint would not reflect these changes.  So, now I have the task of re-synchronizing these group names.  I have read on several posts about using the stsadmin migrate user option.

That's fine.  I can do that. 

What I am having trouble with is associated the group name in Sharepoint with the group name in AD.  From what I've read, the AD SID is stored in the Sharepoint database, somewhere.  I know changing the Sharepoint database directly is not supported, and I'm not going to do that.  But, I do need to positively relate the old group name (in Sharepoint) with the new group name in AD. 

Can anyone point me to where the AD group sid is stored in the database?

Or, is there a better solution?
