I am getting the following error when trying to export list from SharePoint 2013 Service Pack 1 (running on Windows 2012 R2) over 32 bit IE 11 on 64 bit Windows 7 to 32 bit Access 2010: "Export to database failed.  To export a list, you must have a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible application."  I am able to open the list from within Access, but not through IE.

SP2013 to SP2013SP1 The exclusive inplace upgrader timer job failed.

Hello, I have been having some issues when doing an upgrade. To cover all the work that has been done let's take a step back.

Original 2013 farm deployment was on SQL 2008R2. Two WFEs and one App Server in the Farm. We wanted to move up to SQL 2012SP1 to get some added features. This is what will be our Production Farm but isn't fully being used in Prod yet.

Since I had two changes I didn't want to do them at the same time. I chose to do the move to SQL2012 first so that the right SQL env was there when SP1 was installed and PSCONFIG run. We built a new SQL box and migrated all DBs over. Since we are using a SQL Alias with cliconfig.exe it was easy to shift the farm to the new SQL box. Only issue there is that the DBAs built the new SQL box on the internal VLAN where the old was on the DMZ. Punched holes for 1433 and marched on and everything checked out.

Waited a couple days then did the SP1 upgrade. Install went fine on all servers but when I run PSCONFIG

PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures

It blows up on Upgrading SharePoint Products. It gets to 10% and dies everytime on all the servers.

Here is what I see:

Upgrading SharePoint Products...

10.00% : Failed to upgrade SharePoint Products.

An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration.PostSetupConfig
urationTaskException was thrown.  Additional exception information: The upgrade

I have cleared the Config Cache and tried rebooting the farm. None of which has changed anything. Thought it is possible that the account running the upgrade may not have enough rights in SQL but made the account running the timer job and my account running the script are DBO on all databases.

Office Integration and non-MS browsers

I have an 'issue' with Office Integration and non-MS browsers with our SharePoint 2013 on-prem enviroment (using SSO via ADFS).

Background: our internal client wants to move to SharePoint sites for collaboration with external partners.  One of the selling points they're wanting to make to justify the move from their current external collaboration site is Office integration - specifically the ability to open/edit/save documents by clicking on the document in SharePoint, having it open in Office (PC/client) for editing.  Note they are wanting full integration with the client version of Office - not OWA.  The other requirement is that this work with both Firefox and Chrome.

Issue: Office integration works fine using Internet Explorer.  When a user click on a document the document opens in Office and can be edited directly in the browser without any additional prompts.  But when clicking on a document via Firefox or Chrome the SSO login form pops-up when Office starts.  Once the user enters their credentials they can work with the documents as desired.  But our client does not want this second prompt.

Question:

Is there a way to configure SharePoint so that Firefox or Chrome open up documents for editing without a second logon prompt?  I'm assuming not based on my research on how these browsers handle cookies differently than IE.   Can someone confirm?

Is there a dev solution to this?  Note that because the users will be partners (non-employees) we are trying to avoid using a solution that would involve installing custom software on their pc's (such as browser extensions).

Hello Team

As we have SharePoint server 2013 on-premises and running out of space on the drive due to my database "WSS_UsageApplication" increased to 115 GB. I tried to shrink the database as well as used http://blogs.msdn.com/b/manhar/archive/2012/04/17/how-to-reduce-the-size-of-logging-database-or-how-to-purge-the-old-data-from-logging-database.aspx but still unable to reduce the space for "WSS_UsageApplication"

Page Request and Task Use for both i did the retention policy to 3 days instead of 14 days and run both jobs bit still database growing. Its increasing in gigantic. Please help

FIM EVENT ID 3 when starting User Profile Synchronization service

I am having issues getting the USP Sync Service to start correctly in our 2013 Farm.

We are using a named instance for this install and from what I have read, it looks like that is the issue.

In the ULS I find this error "ERROR  ILMPostSetupConfiguration: ILM Configuration: Validating installation of SQL Service FAILED ."

The event log shows this error:

.Net SqlClient Data Provider: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: HostId is not registered
   at Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Utilities.ExceptionManager.ThrowException(Exception exception)
   at Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Data.Exception.DataAccessExceptionManager.ThrowException(SqlException innerException)
   at Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Data.DataAccess.RetrieveWorkflowDataForHostActivator(Int16 hostId, Int16 pingIntervalSecs, Int32 activeHostedWorkflowDefinitionsSequenceNumber, Int16 workflowControlMessagesMaxPerMinute, Int16 requestRecoveryMaxPerMinute, Int16 requestCleanupMaxPerMinute, Boolean runRequestRecoveryScan, Boolean& doPolicyApplicationDispatch, ReadOnlyCollection`1& activeHostedWorkflowDefinitions, ReadOnlyCollection`1& workflowControlMessages, List`1& requestsToRedispatch)
   at Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Workflow.Hosting.HostActivator.RetrieveWorkflowDataForHostActivator()
   at Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Workflow.Hosting.HostActivator.ActivateHosts(Object source, ElapsedEventArgs e)

The server was set up with a sql alias and we also added an alias for the server itself.   Based on the below links, I did verify that the SQLInstance is empty in the registry.

I am at a loss on what to try next to get this working.  As a side note, I just noticed the dev farm we have (which I didn't set up) does not have the UPS configured.  I have seen references that state the only FIM  2010 SP1 works with SharePoint 2013 and am currently investigating updating the version on our server to SP1.

all help is appreciated!

Thanks,

Natalie

I am troubleshooting a FIM installation and I am getting this error:

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.LMTRepopulationJob (ID 9f556bbb-1796-4dee-9a73-f283b7874aeb) threw an exception. More information is included below.

I don't get a single hit on that when searching the forums or webs. Any ideas? is it related to FIM Install?

Database mount terribly slow, unsure how to optimize

$

We are upgrading our SP 2010 environment to a new fully virtualized SP 2013 environment using VMWare.  The new VMs are Windows Server 2012 R2 and we are using Sharepoint Server 2013 SP1.  Database is on Windows Server 2012 using SQL Server 2012.

We have one moderate content database at 18GB and a large content database at 138GB.  Both content databases have a few reported missing features but no upgrade blocking errors.  The large content database has many site collections (600+) since personal sites were stored in it previously before we separated out to a different personal site domain.

Using the Mount-SPContentDatabase command, the 18GB database is upgraded and mounted in 10 minutes.  However, the 138GB database is taking a ridiculous amount of time to finish.  The upgrade percentage goes up rapidly until it stops at various places, 4.67%, 27.8%, etc.  It will stop at these places for hours.  Letting the upgrade run to completion, it took 4 days 15 hours to complete.

I've tried also using the -NoB2BSiteUpgrade flag when mounting but there does not appear to be any difference in speed.

We've rebuilt this environment using clean installs, and we have no other service applications running that may be interfering like search or user profile sync.  The odd thing is I was able to upgrade this content database six months ago using Windows Server 2012 (non-R2) and Sharepoint Server 2013 without SP1, and it didn't take such a significant amount of time that it was even noticeable.  Other than software, the hardware and virtual environments were exactly the same.

Reviewing volume sizes on the DB, there is plenty of room available (300GB), and CPU/RAM does not appear to be maxed in any way during the upgrade.  The only bottle-neck I believe we may have is a relatively slow SAN, but I do not have the specifics on this hardware.

I've seen other questions similar to this asked but no specific solution presented.  My question is, what do I do now?  I'm one step before involving Microsoft professional services, and I want to make sure I've exhausted all of my options.

Thanks for your insight!

Tasks - Assigned To user is cleared

$

We've been having issues with Tasks Lists in SharePoint 2013 Enterprise On Prem.

The "Assigned To" user for some tasks on any given task list seem to be randomly clearing out for some users.  What's odd is that it's usually only one users tasks affected, but it happens to ALL tasks assigned to that user.

Sometimes it's the user who created the list and assigned all the tasks, other times it's another user.  But whenever it happens all the tasks for that user are cleared, regardless of anything else (due date, progress, etc).

Usually after re-assigning the tasks it works fine but sometimes it clears it again.

One other thing to note is that I recently setup the relationship between our Exchange 2013 and SharePoint 2013 server so tasks can be synced between Outlook and SharePoint.  This feature has been shaky at best, sometimes the tasks lists in SharePoint will sync, other times they won't.

FBA for AD users not working

I have an external AD domain with no trust. I am trying to set up FBA with AD. This is not involving SQL server but involving the AD directly with account and populating them. SP admin before me had set it up for Novell E directory. I had opened another thread regarding this with some info but since that thread has been marked as answered i am opening this new one.

The last thread is here:http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/43f2b263-d8de-4d2f-8d41-82e919c9377f/can-we-have-more-than-1-memebrship-provider-in-sts-token-service?forum=sharepointadmin

I am following the steps defined in the following article: http://mirzafarhan.wordpress.com/2014/02/07/sharepoint-2013-configuring-claim-based-authentication-for-use-with-active-directory-ldap/

External domain: ext.oma.edu

Is everything i am doing correct. Two questions: What do i pass for CN? Is it plain user or connectionusername admin?

Also do i create new <system.web> section to add this or i use the existing section where another fba has been configured? As soon as i add this another fba stops functioning? Please provide me with some idea.

Unable to export custom list to excel in SharePoint 2013 using Firefox and Chrome

Can anyone please guide me to solve this issue. I created a custom list in SharePoint 2013 site. When I click Export To Excel icon in the ribbon using Firefox and Chrome I get the below error message.

"To export a list, you must have a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible application."

I have Office 2010 SP2 64-bit installed. In IE 8 32-bit I am able to download the .iqy file, open the file in Excel and able to view the list content. But in Firefox and Chrome I am unable to download the .iqy file.

I already followed below links to solve the issue but still it exists.

Users cannot access Document Library althouth they have Edit permissions

$

Hello,

I have a strange SharePoint 2013 case, or at least it's strange to me.

Users from the company cannot access a Document Library although I've granted them Edit permissions. The Inheritance from the parent have been broken, all inherited groups have been removed and all users have unique permissions to this library. Here is the setup:

Web App -> Sub Site A -> Sub Site B -> Sub Site C -> Sub Site D -> Library

So these users have Read access from the Web App down to Sub Site B. They cannot see Sub Site C and D because these sites are also with broken inheritance and unique permissions. But I've granted Edit permissions for these users to the Library.

If I assign View permissions for these users to the Sub Site D then they can upload and edit documents in the library, but still cannot see Sub Site C which was my intention anyway. Again i don't want them to see Sub Site D either, but if i remove the View permissions they can't access the library.

On SP 2010 this was not an issue. I'm not sure if here the permissions are different or not, but I've never seen such issue before.

Any ideas will be much appreciated. I hope the explanation is good enough to describe the issue.

Many Thanks in advance.

Ivo

Clean install of SharePoint 2013 SP1 on Server 2012 R2?

Has media been released that supports the installing of SharePoint 2013 SP1 on Server 2012 R2 yet? It's listed as a supported OS, but with guidance of installing it. Is the solution to install 2013 RTM from media and then update to SP1, or do we have to wait for slipstreamed media (is that out yet?).

Duplicate field in SharePoint 2013 causing issues when creating sites from Templates, and causing Newsfeed errors

We have a client using SharePoint 2013 On Premise. They have several site collections, Home, Projects, Teams, MySites, etc.

On the project site they created a site to be used as a template for other project sub sites. When they tried to use the template to create a site, it was throwing an error about the "HashTags" field (or "HashTags0" field) being duplicated.

On inspection, several columns named "HashTags" were listed in site columns. The duplicate column was removed from the site, and upon doing so, they all disappeared. Looking at the site with SharePoint Manager, the fields still existed, all with the same exact FieldID. This is a production site, so we were hesitant to try and delete these fields using SP Manager, without any understanding of why this was occurring in the first place. I have done some research and searches on the issue, and originally I was finding a mention of this, but it was in reference to Office365 SP, not On Premise. Now I am starting to see additional posts on the subject, and it seems like a known issue, but to my knowledge, Microsoft (outside of Office365 support) has not weighed in on the problem.

Now, in addition to the existing issue above, Last week the client expressed a desire to start using Newsfeeds outside of MySites. The Site Feed feature has been turned on at the root of the Site Collection for their Projects site, and also in a sub site for testing. When a conversation is input the following Error occurs

"We've hit a snag, Looks like the newsfeed was removed from the site, the site was deleted, or there's some temporary network problem. You can try again later or stop following the site from the sites page."

Viewing the ULS logs while trying to post to the newsfeed indicated an error with an invalid Field ID.  In researching the mentioned Field ID, sure enough, it is the HashTags field. The interesting thing is the newsfeed works fine on MySites, and within at least one other site collection in the farm.  Also notable, is that in the microfeed list where the newsfeed throws the error, the HashTags column is not present (or at least not from site settings as a site column), while it is displayed as a site column on the sites where the newsfeed is working.

Has anyone seen this issue, and been able to resolve, or at least determine why the field is getting duplicated to begin with?

Thank you,

Carl Frank

I am trying to upload multiple documents to a sub folder in a library using powershell.

I am getting the error as : ForEach-Object : Exception calling "Add" with "3" argument(s):
"<nativehr>0x80070003</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack>There is no file
with URL 'server/TestLibrary/User_image/ab_3f_wht_ist_small_gif.gif' in this Web."

I have used the below code:

function UploadImages($weburl)
{
$docLibraryName = "TestLibrary"
$localFolderPath = "C:\Users\Imgs\user_image"

Add-PsSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -erroraction silentlycontinue
$web = Get-SPWeb -Identity $webUrl

$docLibrary = $web.Lists[$docLibraryName]
$subFolderName="user_image"

Add-PsSnapin Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell -erroraction silentlycontinue
$web = Get-SPWeb -Identity $webUrl

$docLibrary = $web.Lists[$docLibraryName]

#Attach to local folder and enumerate through all files

$files = ([System.IO.DirectoryInfo] (Get-Item $localFolderPath)).GetFiles() | ForEach-Object {

    #Create file stream object from file
    $fileStream = ([System.IO.FileInfo] (Get-Item $_.FullName)).OpenRead()
    $contents = new-object byte[] $fileStream.Length
    $fileStream.Read($contents, 0, [int]$fileStream.Length);
    $fileStream.Close();

    write-host "Copying" $_.Name "to" $docLibrary.Title "in" $web.Title "..."

    #Add file
    $folder = $web.getfolder($docLibrary.Title + "/" + $subFolderName)
    write-host "folder is " $folder
    $spFile = $folder.Files.Add($folder.Url + "/" + $_.Name, $contents, $true)

    $spItem = $spFile.Item

Write-Host -f Green "Added Images to Library !!!"
}
$web.Dispose()
}

How to fix this?

Thanks

OWA webparts (exchange 2013) are not working on SharePoint 2013 (on Premise)

hi ,

i am struggling to make OWA (exchange 2013 ) webpart work on SharePoint 2013 (on premise) .

issue details :

when i add the OWAInbox webpart to any page and configure it with the OWA link provided then it throws error that "

"This content cannot be displayed in a frame",and you must log into OWA in another browser window in orowa webpart error snapshotder to make the Page Viewer web part display the desired content"

i tried same with and without PageViewer web part too .

but it is not working inspite of applying many below solutions :

i tried many solutions from various posts :

Solution 1

To Allow SharePoint-hosted pages to be IFRAMED

SharePoint page developers can opt-out of clickjacking protection by adding the AllowFraming control to their .aspx pages: <WebPartPages:AllowFraming runat="server" />

This control instructs SharePoint not to send the X-Frame-Options header when this page is requested. Without the X-Frame-Options header, the page is able to be IFRAMED.

Solution 2

There is a third party solution to be deployed on the webapplication in in which you want to open the site in an IFrame.

As per the below image and url : http://ventigrate.codeplex.com/releases/view/79825

We activated the specific feature on specific we app : but still not worked

Solution 3

Open Internet Explorer

Press Alt + T on your keyboard to show the Tools menu

Click Internet Options

Click the Security tab

Select the Trusted sites zone

Click the Sites button

Type https://login.microsoftonline.com or other site URL into the Add this website to the zone:field

Click Add

Click Close

Click Apply

Click OK

Close Internet Explorer

Solution 4

The URL of Outlook Web App in Exchange Online must have an exsvurl=1 in the webpart URL in order to make the web part work(https://test.domain.com/owa/?exsvurl=1&cmd=contents)

if the above approach results in your Page Viewer web part displaying "This content cannot be displayed in a frame",and you must log into OWA in another browser window in order to make the Page Viewer web part display the desired content, you can try this URL instead: https://test.domain.com.no /owa/?exsvurl=1&cmd=contents&realm=<tenantid>.onmicrosoft.com  where <tenantid> is the name of your tenant, e.g. kksrv19.

Tried with other url types like :   https://test.domain.com /owa /?exsvurl=1&cmd=contents&f=Calendar&view=Weekly

Solution 5

To Apply files for Cross domain and client access policy to bypass the cross domain issue if any

CrossDomainXml file Solution

<?xml version="1.0"?>

<cross-domain-policy>

<allow-access-from domain="*.kragero.kommune.no"/>

</cross-domain-policy>

Clientaccesspolicy.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<access-policy>

    <cross-domain-access>

        <policy>

            <allow-from http-request-headers="*">

                <domain uri="*" />

                <domain uri="https://*" />

            </allow-from>

            <grant-to>

                <resource path="/" include-subpaths="true"/>

            </grant-to>

        </policy>

    </cross-domain-access>

</access-policy>

Solution 6

By applying the Javascript to get cross domain access

<script type="text/javascript">

        var isIE8 = window.XDomainRequest ? true : false;

        var invocation = createCrossDomainRequest();

        var url = 'http://test.domain.com';

        function createCrossDomainRequest(url, handler)

        {

            var request;

            if (isIE8)

            {

                request = new window.XDomainRequest();

            }

            else

            {

                request = new XMLHttpRequest();

            }

            return request;

        }

        function callOtherDomain()

        {

            if (invocation)

            {

                if(isIE8)

                {

                    invocation.onload = outputResult;

                    invocation.open("GET", url, true);

                    invocation.send();

                }

                else

                {

                    invocation.open('GET', url, true);

                    invocation.onreadystatechange = handler;

                    invocation.send();

                }

            }

            else

            {

                var text = "No Invocation TookPlace At All";

                var textNode = document.createTextNode(text);

                var textDiv = document.getElementById("textDiv");

                textDiv.appendChild(textNode);

            }

        }

        function handler(evtXHR)

        {

            if (invocation.readyState == 4)

            {

                if (invocation.status == 200)

                {

                    outputResult();

                }

                else

                {

                    alert("Invocation Errors Occured");

                }

            }

        }

        function outputResult()

        {

            var response = invocation.responseText;

            var textDiv = document.getElementById("textDiv");

            textDiv.innerHTML += response;

        }

    </script>

Please help me to solve this mistry by providing the fix for this

*note that this is not the SharePoint online. i need it for the on premise

thanks

Atul.
