Dear All,

My active directory is on windows server 2003 and now planning to install SharePoint 2013. I have windows server 2012 with seperate hardware and want to install Sharepoint on this server. I have some queries relates on the Sharepoint deployment.

  • Sharepoint 2013 is integrated with windows server 2003 Active Directory or need to upgrade with 2008 or R2 Active Directory?
  • Sharepoint 2013 integrates with Exchange server 2007 and 2010 or requried Exchange 2013 ?
  • Is there any specific edition of windows server and exchange server requirement e.g. (Standard/Enterprise) for SharePoint 2013 ?

Hi,

I also have some question that can Exchange Server 2007 be integrated with SharePoint 2013 Server. I know Exchange 2013 has more features and advantages but still wanted to confirm if this is possible, then how ?

Kindly reply at your earliest to assist me on queries.

Thanks

Upgrade SharePoint 2010 to 2013 : Farm configuration

$

Hi,

I have never done a migration from SharePoint 2010 to 2013. But I have question to understand better the process.

As you know, to upgrade from SharePoint 2010 Products to SharePoint 2013, we use the database-attach method to upgrade.

I see that during the process we upgrade the content database, but what about all farm configuration ? Web Application, Services... everything has to be reconfigure manually ?

Thank you

Hi,

I used to install small farm with all services on one App Server. I have question about having multiple App Servers.

Can we install/start same the service on multiple app server for redundancy ? If so, how the load balancing is managed ?

If that true for all services (Search, Excel...)

Thank you

SharePoint 2013 Foundation - unattended installation

Hi SharePoint masters,

Is there a way to script installation of SharePoint 2013 Foundation? I know I can script pre-requisite installation, but is there a way to install SharePoint 2013 foundation without GUI installer and asking for user input?

It is possible for most of Microsoft Products (also 'full' SharePoint 2013), but I haven't found any way for Foundation.

One user getting access denied when Check Permissions confirms user has Contribute permissions

$

I have recently migrated my SharePoint environment from 2010 to 2013.  I have one user (that I know of so far) that is getting access denied.  So, I went in and checked permissions, and said she had none.  So, I checked the AD group that has Contribute permissions and she is a part of that group.  I then found the advice to go tohttps://***/_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0 and delete the user from there.  I did that and then went back to check permissions and can now see that she has the correct permissions.

I then tried to login as her and its still saying access denied.  I ran Get-SPUser -Webhttps://***/ on the server and her account is definitely listed there.

Any ideas?

Set-SPAppDomain local

How can I set a local domain for:

Set-SPAppDomain"mydomain"Set-SPAppSiteSubscriptionName-Name"mydomain"

"mydomain" is just an example.

Now for the second command I'm getting this error:

Set-SPAppSiteSubscriptionName : The server did not provide a meaningful reply; this might be caused by a contract mismatch, a premature session shutdown or an internal server error.

Issue with Internet facing site and Internet

Hello All,

I have migrated the SP2013 environment using database attach method for our intranet site. We also working on theSP2013 Internet facing site using the same content database as Internet site.

When I extended the web application for Internet facing site, zone toInternet and these are the URLs: The Intranet website URL ishttps://intranet.contoso.com/SitePages/home.aspx (Root Site) andSP2013 Internet facing site http://contoso.com (not a root site and publishing site template)

However, I found on the http://contoso.com users can still access thehttp://contoso.com/SitePages/home with same content as Intranet.

After done some Google search, bloggers mentioned to have move  https://intranet.contoso.com/SitePages/home.aspx to another site collection so that Internet facing site can exist root site.

  1.       Can 2 we have to two root sites in same web application? I need the content database to be same so that managers can checkInternet facing site and after signing into SP2013, redirects toInternet site.
  2.       Which is the best option to achieve this with same content database.

Please advice.

Dual factor authentication

Hi, this may well be more of an IIS question, but sharepoint is behind it so some of you have have dealt with this request already.

We will have a new sp2013 farm rolled out, and part of this will be to deploy as an extranet too. We have good firewalls etc in place , and also use UAG (but want to avoid adding to this as it is going). We want to implement two layers of authentication for the extranet. We don't want to sign up to Azure etc, nor do we want to add things such as adfs if we can avoid it.

I was wondering about user certificates but didn't want this authentication to be automatic just because the user presents their certificate, as I would also like them to type their username and password. Is there a way to get iis to validate that the user cert provided is related to the provided username and password and thus let the user in?

If that isn't possible, has anyone implemented anything similar at all please?

Thank you for any help.

Hi

I've just installed SharePoint 2013 Foundation with SP1 (English veshion) and sharepointlanguagepack.exe.

But I cannot change language of site (or Site Collections) from English to another language? There is no option in Site Settings > Site Administration?

What is wrong? Foundation version doesn't suport it?

SharePoint 2013 allows downloaded even for users with "view only" permissions

$

I have a new on premises SharePoint 2013 server and assigned a single user "view only" rights to a document library. In the "permission levels" window, this permission is described as "Can view pages, list items, and documents. Document types with server-side file handlers can be viewed in the browser but not downloaded."

Once I gave the user that permission, I noticed he was able to view documents in the library but the "but not downloaded" part does not seem to be working. The user can still download documents to his local desktop and SharePoint does not prevent it. The "download a copy" option appears and the user can use it.

My goal is to make all documents in this library such that users can only view them in the browser and not download a local copy. How I do that?

Thanks for your help.

Distributed Cache Cluster Host Name Mismatch

I have 3 servers in the farm Server1, Server2 and Server3.

Get-CacheHost

HostName : CachePort     Service Name            Service Status Version Info
--------------------     ------------            -------------- ------------
server1:22233               AppFabricCachingService DOWN           3 [3,3][1,3]
server2.domain:22233 AppFabricCachingService UP             3 [3,3][1,3]
server3:22233               AppFabricCachingService DOWN           3 [3,3][1,3]

Now if we see there is a mismatch on the HostNames , One is taking the Full Computer name and the other 2 are taking the host name .

Can somebody let me know why there is a mismatch . And how to rectify it correctly

Thanks

Office Web Apps with multiple SP farms

I will be configuring multiple sharepoint farms for a customer with SP2013. Is it possible to install only one office web apps server farm and use this one OWA farm for all my sharepoint farms?

In other words, can I install run new-wopibinding on each of my SP farms and point to the single OWA farm?

Apps will not load properly

$

Here's the deal...I have fully configured apps in 3 2013 environments up to this point and this time around I cannot get apps to load properly.  I get the error below in the server application log.  In short it is an Internal Server 500 error and these are the relevant lines (I think):

Exception type: UriFormatException
Exception message: Invalid URI: The hostname could not be parsed.

My setup is as follows (as it has been in the last 3 environments I have built where apps is working):

1 x SharePoint 2013 Web server

1 x SharePoint 2013 App Server

1 x SharePoint DB Server (SQL 2012 R2)

I have configured Apps by creating the App Management and Subscription service, and creating a new web application with no host header that is listening on 443.  I have a load balancer that is also listening on 443, which has the web server on port 443 as its only load balanced node.  DNS points all request to *.appdomain.com to the load balancer on 443 then to the back end web server on 443.  I have the app domain and app domain prefix set in SharePoint CA.  I can to a site collection and browse the SharePoint App Store, install it, but when I launch it it shows me the app, but only the text.  There are no images.  And each time I try to launch the app there is a corresponding event log ASP.NET 4.0.30319.0 error 1309 which indicates the following:

Event message: An unhandled exception has occurred.

Usage and Health Permissions found in sql default trace keep reapplying

Hi All,

On a new farm installation of SP 2013 (version 15.0.4569.1000), on SQL 2012 SP1 (version 11.0.3401),
I've investigated the SQL Default Trace log and noticed permissions that are constantly applied over and over again every second.
We have enabled default Health and Usage metrics and the application "SharePoint[OWSTIMER][1][SP_Service_UsageAndHealth]" keeps re-applying the permissions as follows:

GRANT EXECUTE ON [proc_GetCorrelationIdAndUsers] TO [TCORPAD\svc_sp_portalapppool]
GRANT EXECUTE ON [proc_GetMonitoredScopes] TO [TCORPAD\svc_sp_prfapppool]
GRANT EXECUTE ON [proc_GetMonitoredScope] TO [TCORPAD\svc_sp_prfapppool]
GRANT EXECUTE ON [proc_GetDiagnosticsData] TO [TCORPAD\svc_sp_prfapppool]

GRANT EXECUTE ON [proc_GetMonitoredScopes] TO [TCORPAD\svc_sp_portalapppool]
GRANT EXECUTE ON [proc_GetMonitoredScope] TO [TCORPAD\svc_sp_portalapppool]
GRANT EXECUTE ON [proc_GetDiagnosticsData] TO [TCORPAD\svc_sp_portalapppool]
GRANT EXECUTE ON [proc_GetCorrelationIdAndUsers] TO [TCORPAD\svc_sp_portalapppool]

I have verified that the farm account has DBO perms to the Health DB as well as securityadmin at the server level. The permissions logged are actually being applied to the stprocs to the WebApp AppPool accounts.
To me it looks like a bug, not a mis-configuration, but any help is appreciated.

Cheers
