failed to connect to the configuration database sharepoint 2013

Hi Guys,

I'm having this error message while connecting to an existing farm. I have a two tier server setup 1 Db and 1 APP&WF;

Here's the background of my problem:

My sharepoint sites and central admin suddenly not accessible after the MS Office update. so what i did is to find solution in google. so here are some of the solutions I applied so far. I rolled back the updates, uninstall infopath specific updates and software itself. all these solution did not solve my problem. so what I did is disconnect it from the farm and connect it again and this is what I get.

I hope any one can help on this.

Search box not working on sharepoint 2013 List

I have a list in sharepoint 2013 with a few columns and data in them, but the search box for the list is not bringing any results. 

Any one has any ideas why?

Recreate the default SharePoint cache cluster

I have reinstall AppFabric on SharePoint and can't add distributed cache:

$Info = $Manager.GetSPDistributedCacheClusterInfo($Name)

As result $Info is nothing

So, How I can recreate that settings?

SharePoint 2013 in-place "Find a file" isn't working

Enterprise search and other text boxes all work as expected. It is ONLY the in-place search box that is broken.

I have replicated my findings across multiple sites, web applications and farms and I simply cannot get this feature to work consistently, if at all.

Details:

  • Tried all SP patch levels.
  • No convoluted AAM for webapps.
  • No host-header site collections.
  • Affects http and https sites.
  • No fine-grained permissions.
  • All library items are included in search.
  • I am only searching on indexed columns such as Title.
  • Same result when logged in as SC admin, Owner, Member or Visitor.
  • The only exception appears to be Calendar lists where filtering works as expected.

Any help is much appreciated as this is a primary selling feature for clients; and a major head-ache for me.

If at first you don't succeed, ask an MVP.

With Sharepoint 2013 enterprise (on premise) ... is there a chance to Programmatically download/export search usage reports ( with Powershell for example) ?

Thesereports are requestedevery two weeksbysome users who do not have access totheWeb Administrator.

With SP1 + April 2014 CU, issue converting to claims

Hello,

I'm testing an upgrade to SharePoint 2013 on an environment running on 2012 R2, with the fixed SP1 and April 2014 Cumulative Update. My issue is that, in this farm, I cannot convert any of my classic databases to claims. I run into the following error for every single account that convert-spwebapplication tries to convert:

This behavior occurs whether I attach a classic mode database to either a classic mode or claims mode web app. I have confirmed that classic auth works fine when the DB is attached to a classic mode web app in SharePoint 2013. It's just that when I run convert-spwebapplication (or any of the various ways to trigger the user conversion to claims) I always get the above error and no one can log in on the claims web app.

I tested this process against a different farm I have running the April 2013CU and I do not have these issues. That farm is also on Windows Server 2008 R2, so I'm not sure if it's a server OS thing or perhaps something introduced in a later CU or SP1 or what.

Anyone run into this before?

PassPhrase is not validated. This happened after I removed project server instance. I cannot add any servers to the SharePoint config or reset passphrase

I have removed Project server instance from my SharePoint 2013 farm. After that when I tried to run the configuration wizard, I found that the old passphrase is not valid.

When I open powershell, the powershell is not connecting to the SharePoint farm. So, I cannot reset the PassPhrase.

What is the best course of action?

Custom Web Template fails, List does not exist

Can somebody help me with this?
After I patched the SharePoint 2013 SP 1 to the April 2014 CU I've been getting this error.

When I apply a custom template I keep getting the error:

"Exception calling ApplyWebTemplate with 1 argument: List does not exist. The page you selected contains a list that does not exist. It may have been deleted by another user."

When I check the logs I found this:

Blob Cache build error

Hi team,

I am facing an issue in Blob cache. My application is showing incosistency across the farm. While the application is rendered correct from few server but from few it fails to render correct. If i disable Blob cache from web>config, It starts working correctly.

I tried disabling, Deleting and flushing but one or the other is creating issues. Only in disabled case it works fine with all server as the data is pulled from DB.

My config setting for BLOB in web.config.

Sharepoint 2013 Backup Failures

Having a rough time getting our Sharepoint 2013 server to do a backup. Thinking my issue is related to permissions but I didn't set this up and so I'm not sure exactly how to figure out what permissions may be missing.

Here is the message I am getting from the "Sharepoint_Config" section of the backup...similar message under the State Server under "Sharepoint Server State Service" heading and WSS_Content under "Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application" heading

Object SharePoint_Config failed in event OnBackup. For more information, see the spbackup.log or sprestore.log file located in the backup directory.
SqlException: Cannot open backup device '\\[servername]\backup\sharepoint2013\spbr0000\000000D3.bak'. Operating system error 5(Access is denied.). BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

Broken Followed Sites on MySites

Is there some job that cleans up broken/renamed followed URL's?

I am noticing on multiple peoples 'Sites' page, they have broken links that will not unfollow (the links no longer exist).

Clicking 'Unfollow' does nothing.

Hi friends,

I have one issue on "Copy the list in one sitecollection to another sitecollection"

I have one list like "ABC" and with lookup column "Status" this column is looked to anthor list columns

My task is i want to Copy the same list with lookup columns with Data(lookup columns Data) in one site and restored in another site.

Error  is Lookup columns Data is not coming.

How to Copied list with lookup columns data to restored in another list?

3 tier Farm vs 2 Tier farms

Hi, we are installing a 3 Tier farm ( web server - app server - sql server) all seperate VM's ..

our IT guys suggesting we will up the RAM to 32GB, use 2 tier ( web& app as 1 VM) sql as seperate VM..

I need to justify them, which is the best practice & best option...we have 400 users ..can some one explain what are the benefits of using 3 tier vs 2tier ...what would you recommend and why

Hello,

I have a SharePoint 2013 server, with 8 GB of RAM.  SQL Server 2012 is installed on the same box.  This is a virtual machine. I know this is not recommended, but the number of users who access the sites on this SharePoint server are 5, and most of the time is just 1 person. Normally, the site's performance is OK, and users find the site performing OK.

However, today I am seeing "Cache items will soon start to evict because of high memory usage" and the risk of the sites running slow.

I have ran 

 Use-CacheCluster
 Get-AFCacheHostConfiguration -ComputerName vm-cc2012 -CachePort "22233"

And I get this:

HostName        :  server

ClusterPort     : 22234
CachePort       : 22233
ArbitrationPort : 22235
ReplicationPort : 22236
Size            : 410 MB
ServiceName     : AppFabricCachingService
HighWatermark   : 99%
LowWatermark    : 90%

I am not sure what the above means. Can you offer recommendations on how I can improve this?

Metadata Navigation and Library Column Filter Bug

To whom it may concern,

When document library metadata navigation is enabled and a user clicks an item in the metadata navigation part, the library updates to reflect the selected filter. Subsequent filtering actions performed on columns in the library do not filter the list further. For visuals refer to the thread below.

My reason for re-posting this is 2 fold.

1. The answer to the thread above is not an answer, it is a work around.

2. Presenting the option for a user to continue filtering a view, but having that option do nothing is a bug. The option should be hidden, or it should perform the expect action.

Please either inform me of an expected timeframe for resolution, or point me to an exacting set of steps to take in order to escalate this issue to someone who will take action to fix it.

Removing photos from Sharepoint profiles

Hello,

We have  SharePoint 2013 farm with 2 WFE and 1 app server. When we first built the system we created mysite site collection and configured profile sync so that photos are synced from AD. This is working fine. Now we have a new director that wants all photos deleted (how typical). The only way I can think of is to delete the profiles service apps and corresponding content DBs, delete mysite webapp and site collection (not sure about this step though) then create a new profile service application and mysite webapp and site collection and do a new full sync making sure that the photo thumb nail is not configured to import into SharePoint. Does that make sense for a plan?

How to remove unwanted user profiles?

Hello,

One of the initial imports of users profiles from AD brought over service accounts into SharePoint.  I don't want service accounts now, so I deselected them in the configure synchronization settings.  When I did a full import, they are still there.

1. How to get rid of profiles that you imported previously that you don't want?

3.  When I add the exclusion filter for users to not import expired accounts, these are imported, even though I have added the attribute "accountExpires" and the operator is "is present"?

Any tips on what I can do?

SharePoint 2013 DON'T ask for credential and takes one randomly

Hello

SharePoint 2013 with Sp1 over windows server 2008 R2.

the farm is one App Server and one WFE server, a SQl server and an AD server.

created one web application with claims authentication using NTLM. then create a team site without anonymous access and using https://.

This is the situation:

sometimes sharepoint don't ask for credential and just show one of the users of the AD that previously loged in.

sometimes ask for credential (as usual)

sometimes don't ask for credential when accesing from a device that never has been used for ?????

Please advice how to find the problem, installed wireshark to check packets, perhaps net proxies? or firewalls?
