Word Web App "Sorry we ran into a probem" after hotfixes

$

I installed the March 2013 and October 2013 hotfixes and it appears to have broken my web apps for word. When a document opens, it says "sorry, we ran into a problem" and gives you the option to restart (which returns same error) or exit.  I don't even know how to begin troubleshooting this.

Update: works fine in IE9, but not IE11.

Many 8088 warnings in Application log

On a client's SharePoint 2013 server I see a lot of 8088 warnings that say "The Managed Metadata Service 'Managed Metadata Service' is inaccessible."

I looked it up and found only SP 2010 responses. But they all indicate a permissions problem. As far as I know, no permissions have been changed. I followed the TechNet article for SP 2010 and found the application pool and the account for it. I then checked permissions but the account was not listed, only something called Local Farm. I don't know what that is even though it had all 3 permissions checked. So I added the domain account listed for the application pool and gave it all permissions shown. But I'm still getting the warnings.

Any ideas on how to proceed from here?

How can I allow users to view any Wiki Pages inside my enterprise wiki site collection, as PDF files

We are working on an enterprise wiki site collection, and users start adding wiki pages and link them together. But a new requirement was raised by the customer, to allow users to be able to convert any wiki page to pdf file and save the pdf file to their local PCs. They are suggesting to add a link or an option inside the upper ribbon , named “Make as PDF”, and once clicked they can view the current wiki as a pdf file.

Not sure what are the capabilities of SharePoint 2013 to do so ? and is there any third paryt tools that allow doing similar tasks ?

Thanks

Claims debacle (error) with Term Store: "Could not retrieve a valid windows identity" for all sites in a particular web app.

When I pull up the Term store in CA or any MySite collection, it works.

When I do so in any other site collection (HNSCs, incidentally), It doesn't return any term stores.

My ULS log immediately before and after the "/_vti_bin/taxonomyinternalservice.json/CheckPermission" POST on termstore .aspx triggers the WCF call:

Claims Authentication	g220	Unexpected	No windows identity for contoso\domainUser.

The "The caller is not authorized to access the service." message seems pertinent.

Both web apps are using only NTLM auth.

The url for both web apps ends in the same contoso.com domain.

I get the same errors no matter what account I use, including the install account.

Things I've tried:

  1. Deleting and building a new HNSC root web app and site. Error happens in all sites in all web apps except the PBSC hosting MySites.
  2. Giving the root site app pool identity full control of the metadata service app (even though the MySite identitiy doesn't have it)
  3. Giving the root site app pool identity full permissions on the metadata service app.
  4. Comparing database and web app config permissions between dev (where everything works perfectly) and prod (where it does not).
  5. Made sure IIS auth settings on both sites are identical
  6. Both sites are using the same SSL certificate (though the call to the web service appears to be http)
  7. Reprovisioned the metadata service app with a new database and new app pool identity.
  8. Made sure C2WT is running. Tried it with the service stopped as well.
  9. Web.configs are identical between working and non-working apps.

I'm stumped but still Googling. I'm hoping to avoid having to call Micrososft. Any help would be appreciated!

I think I can. I think I can.

How to check & update my SharePoint 2013 to use the latest commutative updates

I have SharePoint server 2013. And the last time I applied updates was by manually downloading the cumulative updates for August 2013.

So now I need to know if there is a way to check if my current SharePoint server need to be updated and to install the latest commutative updates and fixes. So is there a way inside Central admin to check for any missing updates and install them?instead of manually downloading the updates ?

Thanks

SharePoint-hosted Apps on-premises ADFS SAML 2.0 support

$

SharePoint-hosted Apps does not support SAML authentication. I have read SharePoint-hosted Apps will not be redirected to correctly when using SAML authentication.  This is because the identity providers ADFS 2.0 do not support wildcards for return URLs – which would be needed due to the isolated domain model implemented for SharePoint-hosted Apps. SharePoint APPS will not work for the scenario where SharePoint is using SAML authentication and the application itself is also hosted in SharePoint" Was this for RTM or this still stands true for SharePoint SP1? Does ADFS 3.0 support this for SharePoint 2013?

Opportunities with OneDrive Pro

Hello,

I have a few questions and hope that someone can help me with this:

How user administration works, and can I connect OneDrive Pro (for Business) to active directory? We can connect it with mobile devices?

How is it with storage? Is it everything in cloud or we need to have sql server?

Can OneDrive Pro repleace home/public folders?

What are advantages with onodrive pro (talking here about storage) if we compare it with home folders?

2 App servers in farm will be auto failover and load balanced?

$

Dear all,

We are going to setup following SharePoint farm:

2 WFE
2 APP
2 OWA
2 SQL with shared NAS

We will have hardware load balance in front of 2 WFE. From my understanding, the 2 WFE will detect which APP server is available and send the request there.

Hence, if APP1 is down, all traffic come from both WFE will be directed to APP2.

But I am not so sure about the part about load balance. If all the 8 server instance are working properly, the new request come from WFE2 will be sent to APP1 or APP2? Or it depends on which service application is asking?

In addition, we planned to run all search components on APP servers. But the 2 APP servers are both 16GB memory which is lower than suggested specification.  I am considering whether I can assign all the search workload on APP2 while all the other on APP1.

Thanks.

Mark

SP2013 PerformancePoint report showing error Missing Data Source Provider

Hi,

We have upgraded our SharePoint 2010 installation and moved to SP2013 and SQL 2012, and the sites have all come across OK. Hurray :-)

However our PerformancePoint charts and web parts are proving more of a problem than the entire migration.

Following instructions a number of threads we have now been back and installed the PowerPivot tools on the SharePoint 2013 server, and run the configuration tool.

However, still no joy, and not much support information to help us.

Has anyone come across this error / or have any suggestions we can try?

Many Thanks

Ruth

SharePoint 2013 High Availability - BI Semantic

SharePoint 2013 High Availability

Hi all,

Settings

Two Sites connected via tunnel, no issue in networking – Single farm

SQL2012, two DB with mirroring

SharePoint 2013, two servers in the farm, each server is APP & WEB

Issue, this has been designed against full site failure (e.g. losing connection to other site, which means losing 1 SQL and 1 SP server)

When users try to view some reports from the BI page, they can’t , we have confirmed that SQL mirrors are failing correctly, the issue (we think to be to access the SharePoint reporting services DB which we have mirrored as well), any help will be great.

When http://computername:10000/en-us is created it does not replicate list/library/pages which i created onhttp://computername:10000 site.

I can restore the site to http://computername:10000/en-us but please let me know if we have any alternate to usehttp://computername:10000 as root site or to publish list/library to http://computername:10000/en-us

Moving documents and tags question

Hello,

I have a question about word documents in Sharepoint 2013 online, a client wants to update his entire sharepoint site and for test new features I've created a sub-site in the same server and created som libraries. The documents have meta tags which needs to be filled before the user can save the document. Now I'm about to move some of these libraries from the test site collection to the root (I mean from contoso.sharepoint.com/sites/test to contoso.sharepoint.com). Will the documents preserve their meta tags or will I loose them?

Many thanks....

Wiki Home.aspx exists after 2010 migration but still showing AllFiles.aspx

So I recently just had to use the ShareGate migration tool to move from 2010 to 2013, and one of the issues I am having is that when clicking the Wiki link in the site, it takes you to the AllFiles.aspx.  The library view does have a Home.aspx but it is not pointing to it, and I cannot find any article that doesn't change the homepage site wide.

How do I go about telling the Wiki instance to load Home.aspx?  I have probably passed over it as my eyes were glazed over after working on a lot of errors and field updates I just cannot find it.

Thanks

SharePoint 2013 - Seft Service Site Creation only work at root level but not at any wildcard inclusion managed path

Hi

on a Web Application that I created just for My Site,  I created a My Site Host Collection at the root,  I setup managed path (Sites, personal) and configured UPS and My Site settings.  All seem to work fine.  users with proper permission were able to created their personal my site and social features seem to work properly as well.

There is on issue that I am having with is Self Service Site Creation settings at the Web Application.  In "Start a Site" setting, if I setPrompt user to create a team site under -   and leave at the root level then when a user click on the New Site link in his My Site then it work fine.

If I add any of the managed path (Sites, Personal) for this web application, then New Site creation failed with an error"... Site creation can't continue because of a configuration issue with the parent site.  Contact the site administrator for more informaiton"

Anyone have encourtered this error or have any advice, please share

Thanks

change distributed cache service account error

$

The Healthy Analyzer is throwing an error:

The server farm account should not be used for other services.

doman\farmadmin, the account used for the SharePoint timer service and the central administration site, is highly privileged and should not be used for any other services on any machines in the server farm.  The following services were found to use this account: Distributed Cache Service(Windows Service)

I found this information on distributed cache in the technet library http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219613.aspx

Change the service account

When the server farm is first configured, the server farm account is set as the service account of the AppFabric Caching service. The Distributed Cache service depends on the AppFabric Caching service. To change the service account of the AppFabric Caching service to a managed account:

1. Create a managed account.

2. Set the Managed account as the service account on the AppFabric Caching service. At the Windows PowerShell command prompt, run the following command

$farm = Get-SPFarm
$cacheService = $farm.Services | where {$_.Name -eq "AppFabricCachingService"}

$accnt = Get-SPManagedAccount -Identity domain_name\user_name $cacheService.ProcessIdentity.CurrentIdentityType = "SpecificUser" $cacheService.ProcessIdentity.ManagedAccount = $accnt $cacheService.ProcessIdentity.Update() $cacheService.ProcessIdentity.Deploy()

Where Domain_name\user_name is the domain name and user name of the managed account.

When I run the last command I get the following error:

PS C:\users\farmadmin> $cacheService.ProcessIdentity.Deploy()

Exception calling "Deploy" with "0" argument(s). "This operation uses the SharePoint Administration service (spadminv4), which could not be contacted. If the service is stopped or disabled, start it and try the operation again."

SharePoint 2013 SP1 - Access Denied

$

I have a public facing website running on SharePoint 2013 (upgraded from 2010), on the development servers I updated the farms to SP1. On one of the farms I get an access denied on all pages, doesn't matter which login I use. On my second theupgrade worked perfectly, but after 1 day I have the same problem. All pages give an access denied.

In the ULS logs I found:

SPRequest.GetMetadataForUrl: UserPrincipalName=i:0).w|s-1-5-21-1355149157-397183736-587494967-1150, AppPrincipalName= ,bstrUrl=/Cache

Profiles ,METADATAFLAGS=59

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)), StackTrace:

at Microsoft.SharePoint.SPWeb.GetList(String strUrl)

at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.

CacheManager..ctor(SPSite site)

I have checked my superuser/reader accounts, these are correct.  Does anyone have an idea why this happening??
