Documents randomly not opening for editing

Hi,

On a Sharepoint page I have a list of about 10 word documents.  When I click on the option to edit the document so that I can save it back to the page only half of the documents will open with that functionality.

The error message I get is 'We're sorry, we are unable to find a program to open this document.'

I find this strange as the document is replicated for different cities and some of this will open as expected, without downloading a local copy to my machine.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

refresh sharepoint content from a spreadsheet

After I took a windows based authentication / content database and copied it from my sql instance for sp2010 and to a new instance.. then created a new web app on the new 2013 box.. which seems to be set to claims based authentication.. and ran the import of the sql db..

If I hit the intranet site I get access denied unless using the system account.

Does anyone know if i'm missing a step here.. I believe it may revolve around claims based authentication which isn't/wasnt used before.

Cognos integration to SharePoint 2013?

I have SharePoint 2013 and need for integrating to Cognos (don't know exact version yet). Basically I needs to see graphs.  I can imagine that there are 10 webparts and each containing one graph.

1) Where I can find webparts for Cognos? (I'm assuming that this is only easy way to integrate. Please advice me if I'm wrong)

2) How deep Cognos skill is need for SharePoint admin/developer to connect to Cognos? How difficult it to configure web parts?

3) Any restriction what cannot be brought to SharePoint from Cognos?

2013 Workflow Task Failure

I am having a recurring, repeatable problem with SharePoint Online.  Any 2013 workflow I create with a task assigned will fail with this error:

Here is a real workflow this problem occurs on:

Here are the troubleshooting steps I've tried:

  1. Deleted the workflow and recreated it.
  2. Deleted the list and recreated it.
  3. Deleted the task list and recreated it.
  4. Deleted all three and recreated them.
  5. Deleted the entire site collection, removed from recycle bin and recreated it.

Note that if I create an equivalent workflow using 2010 Workflows, it works as expected.

Foundation 2013 and Reporting

Hi,

I try to use SP Foundation 2013 and set Reporting Services, I know the SharePoint Integrated mode prerequest the Server version, butI can't believethat there is nosolution to use a small segment of Reporing Services.

Can anyoneany goodsolution?

We want to use Express version of SQL Server - I know there is Native Integrated Mode.

Migrating SP2010 WSS CONTENT with CLASSIC auth to SP2013 CLAIMS auth fails when logging into web site

After converting CONTENT database from SP2010 to SP2013, I cannot log into SharePoint site.  SP2010 is using Classic Mode authentication and the new web application defautls to CLAIMS based authentication.

Steps

1) Restore backup CONTENT database to SQL Server 2012 database. Set the approriate permission on databases.

2) New-SPWebApplication -Name $WebAppName -port 80 -HostHeader $HostHeader -URL $WebAppURL -ApplicationPool $AppPoolName -ApplicationPoolAccount (Get-SPManagedAccount $AppPoolAccount) -DatabaseName $TempDB -DatabaseServer $SqlServerName

Note: I create a new web app and use a JUNKDB for CONTENT database. The powershell command does not like using my SP2010 content database because it is classic mode. 

3) Get-SPContentDatabase -WebApplication $WebAppURL | Dismount-SPContentDatabase 

Note: Dismount the database just created, because it was just to build the Web application.

4) Mount-SPContentDatabase -Name $ContentDBname -DatabaseServer $SqlServerName -WebApplication $WebAppURL
Note: This mounts the SP2010 database to the SP2013 web applications. Messages listed indicating that content database is being convert. I assume to SP2013 format. It goes 75% thru and pauses about 15 seconds, then continues and completes

5) Test-SPContentDatabase -name $ContentDBname -WebApplication $WebAppURL

Note: message indicates that database is using classic authentication and web application is claims.

5) Convert-SPWebApplication -Identity  $WebAppURL -To Claims -RetainPermissions -Force

Note:WARNING: The conversion of web application and most of the users to Claims mode is completed. However, one or more users could not be converted to Claims mode. Refer to the ULS logs for the details. For the troubleshooting tips refer to thehttp://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=236943 article.

Which brings me to the point of question.  The migration completes and I open the web site and it prompts for username and password.  It will not accept any username or password.

Also, if I change site permission to ANONYMOUS, I can see all the site pages and information, but then I don't have any rights to convert to SP2013 in the site settings.

Workflow manager installation in SharePoint 2013

I have 3 tier sharepoint environment with 2 WFE , 2 App and 1 database server. I am trying to install the windows azure workflow in this farm. Do i install the WFM in app server or WFE or in all? Also how to assosiate digicert with windows azure workflow? 

One question off the topic- Do i enable smtp for email in wfe or app?

What is the best practice for setting up and updating a column(field) in a List in a template that has been used already?

Question:

If I create a Template for Sites containing -->List-->Field1,Field2,Field3,Field4,Field5

As time goes by I have say 100 sites ...and We decide to add another Field to the list --> Field6

Is there a easy way to maintain this? 

Do i need to go to each site to add the additional field?

Now the problem is while creating site columns which are of ‘Managed Metadata’

i.e after column mm1,mm2 getting created getting exception as follows

Add "Published Link" to SharePoint in Office 2013

Hi, 

I am trying to add the link to SharePoint 2013 in the office 2013 client (e.g. Word). I have not been able to find a method to add this link via group policy or the registry. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to accomplish this.

SharePoint Foundation 6398 errors

Hello,

Our SharePoint 2013 server has lots of 6398 errors.  This is basic installation, we did not do any modifications yet.

There are two errors that I see:

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.LMTRepopulationJob (ID f4467b3e-b1ab-4871-93bc-fc7bad2b586b) threw an exception. More information is included below.

Unexpected exception in FeedCacheService.IsRepopulationNeeded: Connection to the server terminated,check if the cache host(s) is running .

and

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.LMTRepopulationJob (ID aaf08ead-b7aa-44c6-a28e-9dca2dc3937a) threw an exception. More information is included below.

Error 6398 DashboardRefreshAccount

Hello, i am getting this error constantly. I have a powerPivot machine and on the weekend it basically stopped doing data refresh and powerView didn't work anymore. When I checked the log this is the error that happened at least 15 times

Publish Links to Office in SharePoint 2013?

Does Publish Links to Office in SharePoint 2013 work with Office 2013?

I have tried setting this up but it does not appear to work.

  • I published a link within the user profile service.
  • Went to my MySite, on my document library "SkyDrive Pro"
  • I connected to office.
  • This popped up with the warning, I accepted this.

I can now access the word template from my "SkyDrive Pro" library when I open Word but I do not get "SharePoint Sites" on the open or save dialog. I have tired both x86 and x64 versions of office.

Sharepoint Site returns a blank page

Hi,

I am working on a project with my professor and for it I need to set up SharePoint 2013.

The installation process worked out fine. I created a new Application Pool, and also a Site collection associated with it.

Central Admin page is working fine but when I try to open Site I created I get three login attempts and then a blank page is returned. I have seen many questions like this one and they advised to turn off Windows Authentication. I have turned off all the authentications and when I try to access the site I get no prompts asking for credentials but it still returns a blank page.

When I try to access the same site from a different machine (no the server), I believe the page designer is supposed to come up. However, I get the SharePoint page saying "Working on it" and it stays there it does not go any further.

PS: I am setting up a 2-tier farm.

How to remove the option "Search This Site" from search box on customized Master Page in SP 2013

Hi Everyone,

I want to remove the option "This Site" from search box on Master page. I have searched this forum and found tips. I have added the

<Property Name="DropDownModeEx">ShowDD_NoContextual</Property>

in the file SearchArea under

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\14\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\OSearchEnhancedFeature

But it didn't work. The tips is for SP 2007. Anyone can help me to change this in Sp 2013?

Event viewer flooded with Sharepoint Foundation error ID 8319

We have a perfectly working SharePoint 2013 server, but the eventviewer is flooded with the following error: "

Table RequestUsage_Partition21 has 443506688 bytes that has exceeded the max bytes 442857142"

Did anyone experience such an issue ?

Profile image not displaying in search results - SharePoint Online Office 365

Hi,

I have an Office 365 tenant with a handful of site collections within SharePoint Online 365.

I have created an Enterprise Search Center site which works ok and returns results.

My issue is this:

From the results page, when I select the 'People' result source (previously known as search scope) I can see all the users but the profile image does not appear correctly. This is how it appears:

When I view the properties of the image, the URL shows as:

https://<tenantname>.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/userphoto.aspx?size=M&accountname=joe%40<tenantname>.com.au&url=https%3A%2F%2F<tenantname>-my.sharepoint.com%2FUser%20Photos%2FProfile%20Pictures%2Fjoe_<tenantname>_com_au_MThumb.jpg


Visiting this directly triggers an unexpected error with a correlation ID (not very helpful with SharePoint Online).

If I go to the top level site collection (which is based on SharePoint 2010 Online), the search works fine and displays the profile image perfectly. When I look at the properties of the correctly displaying image, the URL shows as:

https://<tenantname>-my.sharepoint.com/User%20Photos/Profile%20Pictures/joe_<tenantname>_com_au_MThumb.jpg

Visiting this directly goes to a web page with my profile picture on, as expected.

As you can see, the URL is the same as the URL shown in the problem URL after the &url= section so it would appear that the issue lies in the...

https://<tenantname>.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/userphoto.aspx?size=M&accountname=joe%40<tenantname>.com.au&url=

....section. If I go directly to page https://gerardlighting.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/userphoto.aspx, I also encounter an unexpected error so maybe there is a problem with this page.

I have created a whole new site collection to check that it wasn't a problem with this particular site collection but exactly the same thing happens . I'm hoping that someone else has seen this problem and that there is a quick resolution as currently this is a real show stopper.

Just to add that I have also forced a re-index of search and waited the 6 hours and the problem still exists.
