Cannot open database 'SharePoint_Config' requested by the login

Hi guys,

I'm new to SharePoint 2013 and trying to setup a hyper-v development environment (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, SharePoint 2013 Server, SQL Server 2012) - the DC Server is also a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. Both servers have installed the latest windows updates.

After installing and configuring SP2013 I'm facing some errors/critical event logs.

When starting the server I got three critical event logs: (...) Cannot open database "SharePoint_Config" requested by the login. the login failed (...) [Event ID 3760, User: Domain\SP_Farm and Domain\SP_Services]

I already checked the SQL security settings for these users, both users have the following server roles: dbcreator, public, securityadmin.

These users are also have a User Mapping on the SP_Config DB with db_owner, SPDataAccess, WSS_Content_Application_Pools, ... rights.

I've also successfully tried to log in to the SharePoint Server with these users and access the SQL Management Studio and SharePoint_Config database.

Finally I checked the Identities of the Application Pools used by SharePoint Sites, they are all using the "integrated" managed pipeline mode and all started pools are using either SP_Farm or SP_Services identity.

Could anyone of you guys guide me in the right correction, what I have missed and how to solve this issue?

Currently I'm not able to continue setup of my development environment, e.g. creating an Application Management Service Application via PowerShell script fails with the following error:

"Set-SPAppSiteSubscriptionName : Settings or services required to complete this request are not currently available. (...)"

Many thanks in advance!!!

reached maximum number of failed machines based on ping results for this routing group

I have 2 app , 2 wfe servers and 2 https web apps.
On all servers I configured 2 IP addresses and in IIS I have set 1 IP on the first webapp/site (binding) and the second IP on the second webapp/site  (binding)

Now when I browse my site I sometimes get a correlation ID which leads me too following in ULS log:

"reached maximum number of failed machines based on ping results for this routing group"

Stopping the RMS in CA resolves this problem but this wont be a good solution i presume?

Missing Workflow XAML Feature Error during site creation from custom template Microsoft.Workflow.Client.ActivityNotFoundException

Hi,

I am using SharePoint 2013 Enterprise with the March CU.

I created a project site template with libraries, lists and workflows and saved it as a template with content.  When I try to create a new site using this template, I get the error pasted at the bottom.

I was using SharePoint designer workflow custom activities created in VS2012. I uninstalled those and decided to call a web service directly from SharePoint designer.  The workflows work fine inside of the site which I want to create a project template from.  When creating a new site from the template, SharePoint complains about a missing workflow XAML feature.

Do I have some leftover references to the custom features? Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Everytime I create a workflow I get an error, here is the error log. I'm using Foundation 2013, so I can't install the Workflow Platform, so that's not the problem, then what is, any ideas? Certificate Authentication with SharePoint 2013

I am to SharePoint as well as ADFS, so I'm not really sure which path it is that I need to follow.  We are setting up a SharePoint site for Demo/testing purposes and the requirement is that the sites have smart card access.  I have read everywhere that SharePoint 2013 does not have this compatibility built in and requires ADFS v2.0 to pass SSL certificates.  Here's where it gets a bit complicated; our SharePoint server and CA server are in two different domains, but have a site trust between them. I had started the ADFS configuration, but I wasn't sure if I needed additional pieces between the domains, which certificates would be required for the configuration, or if I was going about this the wrong way.

Any help, or direction for my scenario would be greatly appreciated.

Redirect users to SharePoint 2013 Mysites from SharePoint 2007 Portal

Hi

We have SharePoint 2007 Portal site and are in the process of building SharePoint 2013 farm. First step decided was to create mysite.

On SharePoint 2007 we have a link "Mysite" clicking on which users are redirected to their mysites. We want users to be redirected to SharePoint 2013 mysites.

I created audience and added SharePoint 2013 mysite URL in Trusted Mysite Host location.

When I click on "Mysite" link on SharePoint 2007, the URL to which user is redirected ishttp://personal.site.com/_layouts/mysite.aspx

and that user is ultimately taken to Content page.

Another approach I can think of is to update master page and hide OOB "Mysite" link and add new "Mysite" link to redirect users to proper URL. The drawback with this approach is if the master page in SharePoint 2007 is customized then control will not be added automatically and we have to update all master pages in the farm.

Can anyone please guide me?

How to clean up failed SSRS database

$

Dear all,

I am trying to configure SSRS integrated mode at the newly build SP farm.

3 WFE/1 Admin server/2 app servers/1 SSRS/1 SQL (alias name used): all servers have SP codes except SQL server.

I have followed MSDN instruction and installed the SQL 2012 SP1 as the following:

WFE: Reporting service add-in

Admin server: Reporting service add-in

SSRS: Reporting service - SharePoint

After running PowerShell, I tried to create a new SA via Central Admin.  It gives me the error:

Access to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Reporting Services\Service Applications\xxxxxxxxxxxxxx' is denied.

After googling and review my settings again, I tried to add farm account to local admin groups of SSRS, admin and WFE servers without any luck.  Below are my questions:

1.  After trying couple times, there are three databases (ReportingService db, ReportingService_Alerting, ReportingService_TempDB) created for each trial.  How can I clean up those databases?  Is it safe to just delete them since it's not working?

2. Do I need to add farm account to the local admin of the Search servers?

3. Do I need to add Reporting Service Add-in to the SSRS server?  I have reserved my two app servers for Search and would like to have all SSRS related bits to this server.

4. My DBA has created a SQL alias name for the farm SQL database server.  Do I need to use the same Alias name for SSRS server?  How does SharePoint know Reporting Service - SharePoint is at SSRS server but not my SQL server?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sally

Created document library based on template which is using custom content type containing managed metadata based column.

I can upload documents. Everything looks normal except when I visit Column default value settings page in DL settings, I get error message below

I tried many things but nothing seems to work. When I create document library using SharePoint OOB template, everything works.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

SharePoint 2013 PowerPivot as a Data Source with PerformancePoint

I have a SP 2013 Farm using SQL 2012 SP1, and I'm getting an error when trying to use PowerPivot as a data source. PerformancePoint works fine otherwise as does PowerPivot, but the following error has me stumpted. I have validated the versions of ADOMD.NET, and I have versions (11.0.3000, 10.50.2500.0 & 9.0.1399) installed on all servers in the farm. Also I've tried using service account & per user idendity where I know both accounts have permissions to the objects and database. Any ideas?

The user "DOMAIN\John.Doe" does not have access to the server specified by the data source connection string.

New Web Application not creating correctly

$

I'm having an odd occurrence happen about 50% of the time right now when creating new web applications during my migration from SP2010 to SP2013.

During creating a web application in Central Admin, I can get through the first setup page, then get to the "This shouldn't take long" page and will sit there for 30+ minutes. I end up closing the window and will see that the Web application is there in Central admin, and sometimes the DB will be created, other times not, not a big issue since I'm mounting a sp2010 database to this web application.

What I do notice is that either a IIS site will either not be created at all, or it will be created, but the Virtual Folder is empty. When trying to delete the Web Application through central admin or PowerShell it will hang for hours until the next day when it's finally deleted. During this time I am not able to create any other web applications. It's usually at this time that I can successfully create a new web applications but even that is unreliable.

Has anyone ran into this issue or can suggest any workarounds to get this working? I'm wondering if copying the contents of another web application's virtual directory to the failed web application's virtual directory will be a workaround. I still need to verify if creating a web application through PowerShell gives me the same headache but at the moment I'm currently waiting for a web application to delete.

2 factor authentication on SharePoint 2013

Hi,

For a client we have to design application with 2 factor authentication on SharePoint 2013.

I have few questions here:-

  1.      Is 2 factor authentication is possible only with SharePoint 2013 cloud or it is possible even with SharePoint 2013 on-premise also?
  2.      Client is already using RSA secure ID for other application (Non SharePoint).
    1.       IS RSA dependable for SharePoint application also?
    2.      What other tokens working well with SharePoint 2013?
  3.      What are the steps to design 2 factor authentications in SharePoint 2013?

Pl reply only if you have real life experience. Don’t share link. It is urgent.

Thanks in advance.

hardware and software requirements

hi,

to start, our idea is to have secretaries share documents (either amongst themselves or a select few). something like document management(?) and somehow suggested SharePoint. I checked the website for the requirementsSharePoint requirements but it doesn't speak of a straight "hardware" and "software" requirements. there are some categories, for lack of a better term, that needs to be chosen.

should I select database, or application, or business intelligence, or eDiscovery? we just want initially to share Office documents.

appreciate any help.
