Taxonomy duplication issues - oh my

$

Not even sure how this happened, I guess too many different admins over time.   I'm trying to clean up a SP2016 Taxonomy where we have three different TermSets for 'States' at various levels.  Not sure if all are in use or not and how difficult it will be to find all the Lists (libraries) that use these TermSets for column data.  Has anyone every seen a mess like this and can the Lists be re-pointed to one TermSet and not effect the data in the column?

Any help will be appreciated.

Unable to open various SharePoint 2013 CA pages and got The file TopNavBar.ascx does not exist error

Hi

I installed a SharePoint 2010 farm solution (WSP) in a test SharePoint 2013 farm and deployed it successfully.

after finished some testing and I un-installed it from the farm.  Now when I open CA and try to open various pages like Farm solution , the page no longer load and got this error.   this only happen to CA site.  SharePoint sites are open OK

TopNavBar.ascx

I searched for resolution but so far notthing about this type of issue.  I tried and found that by re-install this SharePoint 2010 solution back with both Compatibility Level 14 and Level 15 (with the Force parameter),  so this file again can be in 15 hive and again CA pages are now working without the error.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\TEMPLATE\CONTROLTEMPLATES

I fixed this but I don't think this is the right way and I don't understand why it happened neither.

Can anyone explain what this file do and how do I get this file into 15 hive without having to re-install this SharePoint 2010 the way I did to make it work.

Thanks for all advices and comments

I plan to install updates on SharePoint 2016.
The steps are as follows:
1. Create a backup of the farm and databases;
2. Install updates for SharePoint;
3. Disable the distributed cache service;
4. Disable search service
5. Applying updates using PSCONFIG.EXE -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd secureresources -cmd services -install;
6. After applying the update, I perform the update using the script (https://docs.microsoft.com/ru-ru/sharepoint/upgrade-and-update/update-workflow-in-sharepoint-server-2013);
9. Turn all services back;

Which services should I disable before installing updates?
Updates have not been made for a long time. Can I install immediately in 2019 or should I put everything in 2018?

User Profile Service shows Objects from tusted domains

Hi all,

I have the issue, that UPS somehow syncs User Objects from different trusted Domain, that I have not explicetly configured to sync.

In my Sync Connection I have a Domain A and have configured a couple of OUs to sync. I even do not see any trusted Domain in there. How can it be that if I am querying in the UPS for Profile that I am finding domainA\ and domainB\ and domainC\ Users?

There is only one sync configured.

Is it possible that those profiles are taken from the Usertable of the Sitecollection?

Any help is highly appreciated

Tim

Would like to know the HitCount details from the SMAT tool

Hi,

I ran SharePoint Migration Assessment Tool (SMAT 2013 owned by Microsoft) in my SharePoint environment. And I got a report in spreadsheet. I am more focused on HitCount column. I observed that there are number of HitCOunts for each site recorded in the sheet. But I would like to know whether it shows the number of HitCount since the site is onboarded or it's a annual report? Please confirm.

Thanks.

Hi Guys,

I have a SP farm with 1 WFE, 1 APP, 1 SQL. I also have project server installed in the same farm. I need to patch both. I have never done Project server patching before. Now I have to do SharePoint and project server. So please clarify my doubts

1) Is there any dependency of patching project server and SharePoint together in the same farm ?

2) Which one I should do first ?

3) Can someone share a good guide for doing the project server patching.

Central Administration links point to wrong server

$

I have 4 machines in my farm. I used Central Administration - Server - Services on Server to change the location where the Central Administration service runs to a different machine. Now, even though the Central Admin website is running on the new box, the links in the Health list all point to the old CA server. I can manually open up each list item and ask it to 'Reanalyze' but, once it is done, the links still point to the old server.

What am I missing? Is there a Timer job or Workflow that is supposed to change something. (I am surprised this is using absolute links. Shouldn't SP be putting relative links onto the list?)

Installing SharePoint 2013 on a non-system Drive

$

Hi,

We have been asked to install SharePoint on a different drive (from C: where the client's OS resides).

(It is our understanding) and we have also gone through many articles on the net (please see below) which suggest that the 15 Hive location is always created on the boot drive by SharePoint and that we can't change it, however, we can always specify a different location for SharePoint logs and Search Index files.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/43c08b1a-aefd-42e8-981d-3a055421af99/sharepoint-2013-change-15-hive-location-to-other-storage?forum=sharepointadmin

https://habaneroconsulting.com/insights/The-SharePoint-Hive

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/da107f96-8499-4c0d-806f-5718cf1a16f6/install-sp2010-file-location-tab?forum=sharepointadminprevious

However, in the article below from Microsoft, there is a note put which mentions "As a best practice, we recommend that you install SharePoint 2013 on a non-system drive."

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee805948.aspx

Please could anyone advise if MS actually mean that the location of the 15 Hive can be changed by simply providing a different file location during the SharePoint installation, or does the suggestion refer to storing log/search index files on a non-system drive.

(We will be testing the installation soon on a test VM to check this, however, might be quicker to ask).

Many thanks & kind regards,

Puneet
