We have a sharepoint enterprise farm 2013. and we are reviewing our sharepoint backup policies. currently we are doing the following backup tasks:-

1. Every day @4 am we backup our farm:-

Backup-SPFarm -Directory  \\fileserv\Back -BackupMethod full -BackupThreads 10 -Force

2. Also we backup our site collections seperately:-

backup-spsite  http://w*****1/ -Path C:\Back\home.bak
backup-spsite  http://w****1/depts/ -Path C:\Back\depts.bak

Now my question is about how we can restore these backup files, so i have the following questions:-

1. as per my knowledge to be able to restore our farm or our site collections, the destination farm should have the same farm build number. so let say our sharepoint server OR our sharepoint database server had a sever hardware problem, and we were not able to work on it again. and we had to build a new sharepoint farm. so in this case we need to build a new sharepoint farm >> install the sharepoint updates to upgrade it to the same build number as in the source farm >> then restore the farm backup files? will this work on paper? My concern is that; as per my knowledge that 2 farms can have the same build number , but can reach the build number from different patches.. so how we can manage this? For example, on some farms, our customers install security updates for sharepoint , which sometimes upgrade the farm build number, while other customers only install full cumulative updates. but the farm which have a full CU installed and the farm which only have some sharepoint security updates installed , might have the same build number. so in this case if we have a farm back up files, then how we can reproduce an exact farm to be able to restore the farm backup files?

2. Second question. If we have a farm backup files generated from this script:-

Backup-SPFarm -Directory  \\fileserv\Back -BackupMethod full -BackupThreads 10 -Forc

then can we restore the farm backup files on a farm which have a higher build number compared to the source farm? or can we restore the farm backup files on a farm which have the same build number as the source regardless of the patches that are installed?

I am in need of confirming if SharePoint 2013 supports disabling SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0.

From what I can gather thus far is that SSL 3.0 can be disabled without issue, however SharePoint 2013 currently requires TLS 1.0 to be enabled. I have not been able to find a Microsoft KB article indicating that TLS 1.0 is required to be enabled for SP2013, only a post at the link below.

   I have a SharePoint Foundation 2013 and recently, some windows 10 machines starts to have problems to copy files from sharepoint explorer view. When a user tries to copy a file, this error appear:

"Could not find this item. This is no longer located"

I tried everything and I could not solve this issue.

I have created user profile service and its connection successfully (its shows me AD record while populating on connection).

but as I click "Start profile Synchronization" or configure synchronization timer job---> Run now

nothing is working "Status is IDLE" (below is the image).. I am using Single server Farm and AD is on other machine

(both are VM)

I'm sure there is something very simple that I am doing wrong but I cannot for the life of me cut and paste from Excel 2010 into an SP 2013 list.  I have changed the list to Quick Edit view but if I try to paste the data, it all pastes into the same cell.  So, for example, I block three rows of one column - if I paste that into the list, all the data goes into the first cell... 

Trying to install SharePoint 2013 April 2015 CU. After installation, sharepoint products configuration wizard fails on step 9 with error message:

Unable to create a Service Connection Point in the current Active Directory domain. Verify that the SharePoint container exists in the current domain and that you have rights to write to it.

Hello Community,

I am working with SharePoint 2013 Enterprise version with Office Web Application Servers.  When a search is run, and an Office Document is in the return, the document preview throws an error, and shows the message "Error" or "Sorry, something went wrong."  This function previously worked, but recently I updated all farm servers to the May 2016 Cumulative Update, but I'm not sure that's related to the error.

If you have ever seen this error before please provide guidance and examples for resolving it.

Hello, when we access SharePoint 2013 Central Admin site, we are getting below error.

NOTE: ALL THE WEB APPLICATIONS HOSTED ON THIS FARM ARE WORKING BUT ONLY CA - CENTRAL ADMIN IS NOT WORKING

Tried all the possible options to troubleshoot till registry level, but still no luck in resolving this problem.

In addition:

Verified Windows Updates related to .Netframework exception and below are the updates applied on all teh servers in the farm. Tried to uninstall those KBs and even after no luck in resolving the problem. 

Ran DebugDiag analysis to verify if there are corrupted DLLs.

No luck in resolving the problem after trying all possible scenarios. Please share your valuable suggestions and advise

I have facing the listdata.svc filter issue,I have updated some items in SharePoint list column value for particular item via SQL query in SQL management studio ,after updated that item column value not able to filter .But remaining item column value able filter via listdata.svc

I'm currently working for a company that does security web scans on all SQL servers. We've received vulnerability for our SharePoint SQL server. I know from reading that messing with SharePoint SQL databases can void the help I was wondering what can we do to prevent this from happening.

for example we need to change permissions like changing public access and changing permissions on SQL system stored procedure databases

I wanted to disable "Create Subsites" so I checked "Deny" in Full Control Permission Policy in Central Admin, and saved change.

But user with Full Control can still create subsites.

Is there any other permission that needs to be disabled for "Create Subsites" to work?

I am unable to start the secure store. Below is the what I see in the windows event viewer.

 The Secure Store Service application Secure Store Service is not accessible. Verified that secure store service is running I restarted  Webservices root application pool . Did IIS reset

I recreated the secure store application  but still I see the same error.  

But nothing seems to help . I still see "Cannot complete this action as the Secure Store Shared Service is not responding. Please contact your administrator." when I click on secure store service app in central admin->Service application and above error in windows logs.

Our production and QA servers have grown apart quite a bit in terms of content. I am working on restoring the data from production to QA. I can restore content DB from production to QA but I am trying to find a faster way to deal with external content types. 

I have verified that my secure store connections are similar between qa and prod but there are around 50 external content types in production and only 5 in QA. Is there a way to copy these from production to QA instead of manually creating each one them .

• But how do we test our solution on SharePoint Online including permissions and all other features(Permissions).

I have a farm with 2 WFE. I have installed SSL certificate from Digicert on both servers. The first server is working properly, but the second one is giving me problems.

When I bind the certificate to a site, it works for a while then the setting gets lost and when I go back to the binding I notice that the certificate part shows NOT SELECTED.

I tried removing the certificate and re-installing it but the problem persists. I even tried installing it as the farm account but this does not resolve the issue.

As per below url, I'm not able to see "Block SharePoint 2013 Workflow in Central admin", SharePoint Admin Center --> Settings there is an option to "Block SharePoint 2013 Workflows". Please advice why its not showing for me in SharePoint 2013 central admin.

We noticed a
new user ID with tons of these contacts created automatically today on our
SharePoint 2013 - 2 WFE NLB production server. Any idea on this service account
or contact? I double checked IT and nobody has created these. The First Name
details listed as subsite title. The screenshot shows similar to the screen

Just to give
you more background, we applied  Windows Server 2012 security
patches on WFE servers and Sept 2018 security SP security patches and Sept
2018 SP CU updates after testing in development. we didn't notice any
issues after successful completion. after after 2 days we noticed these new
user id association with recordcenter name association.<o:p></o:p>

We really
want to remove and block it if nothing related to SP.<o:p></o:p>

I really
