Extension Fields, Content Types, and Field Ordering

$

I have two lists in the same Subsite. One (List A) has Content Type Management enabled; and long story short, I need to add a lookup from that list (List A) to the other List (List B); and I want to enable one of the List B fields as an Extension Field, so I can see that field in List A's Display form, and in List A's Views; depending on the selected Lookup value.

Now, it seems that Extension Fields aren't displayed in the Content Type's 'Column Order' page, even if the field is definitely in the Content Type, visible in SPD when viewing thing Content Type, visible in Views and in the List's list of fields.

The steps required to get it to show and work correctly are as follows; and require Disabling and Re-Enabling Content Type Management each time:

• If you have added the Extension Field already, then first delete it.
• Disable Content Type Management in the List (within the List’s Advanced settings)
• Add 2 Extension Fields (The Extension field you want, plus any other random one), and click OK
• Go back in and remove the additional one you just added above that you don't need, and click OK
• Re-Enable Content Type Management in the List (within the List’s Advanced settings)

Its a bit of a hack I think; but it does work - on the downside, every time this is done, the field orders get lost, and they all need to be re-ordered as we switch between Content Type Management being disabled and enabled - really not ideal.

Can anyone explain if this is a bug, a feature, or if I need to be concerned about this? I have reproduced the functionality in different site collections, different web apps, different farms.

Separately, but on the same topic - can anyone explain why Extension Fields are not available for field ordering if not using Content Types?

Any thoughts welcome.

Thanks

David

OneDrive for business, next generation sync client - Sync of team sites and shared folders

Hello,

I am an Office 365 subscriber using Onedrive for Business.  I am using the next generation sync client for onedrive (version 2016 (Build 17.3.6720.1207)) and I would like the onedrive sync client to be able to synchronise shared folders / files with other users in my organisation (either directly shared from onedrive or via the team site).  I understand that this feature was meant to be available from the end of 2016, but if I click on the "Sync" buttons at the top of the relevant web pages (either in Files Shared with Me or on the Team Site in sharepoint), I get a button which says "Sync Now", but when I press this button, nothing happens at all and none of the shared files / folders are synchronised to my PC.

Any advice on how to make folder / file sharing between multiple people work using Onedrive for business and team sites would be much appreciated.  Has this feature been released now?  If not, when is it expected to be released?

Many thanks,

Rupert.

How to Troubleshoot WFE not serving pages

Hi all

fairly new to SharePoint admin.

My setup: SharePoint 2013 on Premise. f5 load balancer. Two WFE. I added HTTP Response headers to track which WFE is responding. The only WFE that ever responds is WFE2.

I tried redirecting in my laptop's host file,

WFE2_IP to sharepointwebapp.domain.com works fine.

WFE1_IP to sharepointwebapp.domain.com generates a site cannot be reached error.

Checked services (CA and control panel) for the WFE1 vs WFE2 and they both look good.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

What I've figured out so far:

 1. Groups are there:
-/domain/sitecollection/subsiteA/_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=3898 throws the same Error
-/domain/sitecollection/_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=3898 but direct in sitecollection the group is found
 2. Subsites where permissions are working:
-/domain/sitecollection/subsiteB/_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=6618 is displayed correctly,
but when I change the list view from the Default Detail View to another View, the same error occurs.

Sql 2008R2 Integrated Mode/ReportServer not working with SP2013

$

So I have

  • SQL 2008R2
  • SharePoint 2013 SP1
  • Report Server

All above installed on one machine (dev server). The ReportServer is definitely installed in SharePoint Integrated Mode.
I can create reports in VS but can't deploy to SharePoint (login prompts).

On the WebService URL I get:

The configuration parameter SharePointIntegrated is set to True but Share Point Object Model cannot be loaded. The error was: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c' or one of its dependencies.      etc....

This seems to be looking for v14 and not v15. Does this mean that Sql2008R2 will not support ReportServer with SharePoint 2013?

Desired State Configuration add snapin

Hi

I cant find information about this issue anywhere, so I shall try my luck here:-)

Using server 2012R2 with Powershell 5 and Desired State Configuration.

I have created a DSC module with dscresources (class 5) for configuring SharePoint. Meaning additional configurations in addition to the SharePointDSC module in PowerShell Gallery and github repository.

When running SharePoint cmdlets in powershell it is neccessary to add the SharePoint snapin:

 if ((Get-PSSnapin -Registered -Name 'microsoft.sharepoint.powershell') -ne $null)
        {
            try
            {
                Add-PSSnapin 'microsoft.sharepoint.powershell'
                Write-Debug 'Added microsoft.sharepoint.powershell snapin'
            }
            catch
                {
                    throw 'There was a problem loading snapin microsoft.sharepoint.powershell.'
                }
        }
        else
        {
            throw 'microsoft.sharepoint.powershell snapin is not installed on this system!'
        }

However, when running my mof (Managed Object Format) file with verbose I get the message:

PowerShell DSC resource SkaDscResourceSharePoint failed to execute Test functionality with error message: There was a problem loading snapin microsoft.sharepoint.powershell.+ CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (:) [], CimException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : ProviderOperationExecutionFailure+ PSComputerName : localhost

I have tried just adding the snapin like this

add-PSSnapin microsoft.sharepoint.powershell

But that gives me the error :

An item with the same key has already been added

Any hints and tips are welcome!

UPS Synch not synching

I recently moved my Profile Service to another server and had some problems getting it up and running but eventually succeeded. I had a post on that issue here.

I added a user to an AD group, added that group to my SharePoint group and ran an incremental synch. The user foes not show up on the site's permission checker.

I ran a Full Synch that took about 5 minutes to complete. The Synchronization Service manager shows status success in all stages.

The Synch log in Central Admin also shows activity. A portion of the log is shown below:

 End Time 1/18/2017 3:10:02 PM

No errors are logged in the Event Viewer.

The ULS logs does have an error: "User Profile Application: SynchronizeMIIS encounters an exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileImportJob.<>c__DisplayClass2.<IsTimerJobRunning>b__1()"

Is there a way to resolve this without rebuilding the UPS?

THanks!

Sharepoint online & Sharepoint Designer 2013

Hi, I am receiving an error each time I try to open a SharePoint online site through SharePoint designer 2013.

The error is saying "The Server Could not complete your request". I click on 'Details' and get a repeated "403 Forbidden403 Forbidden403 Forbidden" error message. After I pass this message I get a standard "You do not have permission to open this web site in SharePoint designer"

Here are a list of things that have so far not worked for me:

Using "https://" rather than "http://" - Same issue.

Removing SharePoint Designer, deleting cache in "users>Roaming>SharePoint designer cache"  - Same issue.

Clearing Generic Credentials in Credential Manager - Same issue.

Checking SharePoint site permissions to ensure that " Same issue.

My Admin role grants no restrictions.

I have Nintex trials installed and have used it to build forms on the site, I also have Nintex workflow however current tutorials detailing how to do what I need to do require SharePoint Designer 2013.

Finally SharePoint Developer 2013 has opened sites before, both SharePoint online sites and on prem, but now our company has gone in for the 'real deal' site I can not open this in SharePoint Designer 2013.

Any support would be very much appreciated, I have been trying to find a solution for a number of days now going into a week.

User Profile Service Application Stuck in Provisioning

Hi

My User Profile Service Application (NOT the synchronisation Service) stopped working so I deleted and tried to recreate it using PowerShell.

I have tried a number of times - deleting it before I start again (and the Databases).  Using the Central Administration deletion does not work so I use a mixture of STADM -o deleteconfigurationobject -Id {ID of USer Profile Service Application} and then a PowerShell script to delete the timer jobs.  (PowerShell Remove-SPServiceApplication fails with a The SPPersistedObject with id, {Id}, could not be found.)I have tried creating the User Profile Service Application using Central Administration and using PowerShell (running under the <Domain NAme>\SP_Farm account so the schema on SYncDB is correct).There are no CRITICAL or UNEXPECTED items in the Logs.

The last relevant item in the ULS logs is a message saying it is waiting for a timer job to finish.

"Waiting for service application instance provisioning job to complete for service application with name 'User Profile Service' and type 'Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.UserProfileApplication' "

The SPTimer service is still running.

I am running SP2013 with the September 2016 CU.

What am I missing ?

Sharepoint Slow on Submit

I'm running into an issue where updating metadata in a Document library is slow to complete.  Sometimes up to 60 seconds to complete.

Here are some details:

The Document Library has about 6000 documents in it.  I've upped the item limit for the site and removed throttling from the list.

Example:
$webapp.MaxItemsPerThrottledOperation = 10000
$list.EnableThrottling=$false

Details from : https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/adamding/2015/11/20/why-your-sharepoint-list-is-so-slow-when-it-has-more-than-5000-items-with-separate-permissions/

I've removed the throttling because I thought it might have had something to do with load time after hitting submit and returning to the list.  It doesn't seem to have done anything.

I haven't customized the editform.aspx at all.

Sometimes there are no issues and sometimes it takes forever.  I've not been able to find a reason.

Sharepoint 2013 with Office for Mac 2016

Hi there

We have SharePoint 2013 (Enterprise) with ADFS Authentication in our enterprise. This runs more or less as expected.

Windows User (with Office 2013) are able to open an Office document by clicking in a document library. There are no Problems.

But the Mac users cannot open Office documents in SharePoint. They uses Office for Mac 2016. By clicking an Excel or Word file in a document library, an error occurs: ex. Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'https://<filepath>'. So it is only possible to edit a file by using Office Web apps.

If the User downloads the file, he is able to open the document properly.

Form Authentication is enabled on ADFS. Is there any other Feature /Option to activate in SharePoint, so that our Mac Users are able to work with Office documents?

Thank you in advance for your help / ideas!

Best regards,

Andreas

Good day, I have been tasked with the installation of SP 2013 from the ground up.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  I have been a front-end administrator since 2011.  My areas of concern are:  Physical & Virtual servers, Services and the corresponding servers, Storage, and Power Requirements.  All optional services available, currently 3500 users scaled to 20,000 users.

Thanks, Gordon

WF - terminate

Hi

Got a Doc Library with an approval WF besides new one fails - I can see that

I've tried to run this:

$web = Get-SPWeb "http://<sitename>"

$wfm = New-object Microsoft.SharePoint.WorkflowServices.WorkflowServicesManager($web)
$sub = $wfm.GetWorkflowSubscriptionService()
$list = $web.Lists["Documentlibrary"]
$wfis=$wfm.GetWorkflowInstanceService()
$items = $list.Items

foreach($item in $items){

 $item.Title
 $item.Url
 $item.DisplayName
 $item.Workflows

}

It returns internal state 4 and 8 (completed and cancelled)

How do I localized the running WF and gets it terminated?
