move or split one site collection in two or more content databases

Hi

I have a web application that contain only one site collection.size of this site collection is more than 100 gigabyte. Now in Central Administration I see this warning:

The following content databases have grown larger than 100 GB. Large content databases can be difficult to backup and restore. They are also more likely to cause application hangs when operations that affect entire databases are performed. DBName on DBServer.

Remedy

Prevent new sites from being added to these databases by clicking the repair button or by going tohttp://itc-spap:8086/_admin/cntdbadm.aspx. Then, move some site collections to smaller databases. For more information about this rule, see "http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=142693".

In above link describe how I can move site collection between content databases, I want to know how I can move or split one site collection in two or more content databases.

How I can achieve this?

Renamed a server - but forgot to rename the AppFabric / Dist. cache 

Now almost everything related gives me errors

Use-cachecluster

Use-CacheCluster : ErrorCode<ERRCAdmin040>:SubStatus<ES0001>:Failed to connect to hosts in the cluste

Stop-CacheCluster
Stop-CacheCluster : ErrorCode<ERRCAdmin008>:SubStatus<ES0001>:No hosts running in cluster.

Get-Cachehost gives me this;

HostName : CachePort     Service Name            Service Status Version Info
--------------------     ------------            -------------- ------------
OLDSERVERNAME:22233 AppFabricCachingService UNKNOWN        0 [0,0][0,0]

When trying to remove it: 

Unregister-CacheHost: ErrorCode<ServiceNotConfigured>:SubStatus<ES0001>:Service is not configured on this host. Run Add-CacheHost to configure.

Exported the config - and adjusted it to new server name - then trying to import the config  

Import-CacheClusterConfig C:\temp\af.txt
Import-CacheClusterConfig : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

So it's to start over or does someone have the magic bullet?

Site Columns not deployed while migrating the solution from SP 2010 to SP 2013

Hi,

I have a solution in SharePoint 2010 which declaratively [through xml] deploys the site columns on feature activation.

This same feature also deploys other types of columns like Text, Choice, Lookup etc.

When I deploy the wsp for this solution to the SharePoint 2013 FARM with Compatibility Mode as {14,15} and activate the above mentioned "Site Columns" feature, only lookup fields are provisioned.

Other fields esp. the ones with taxonomy field type are not provisioned.

NOTE:

1. Corresponding "Note" type field is being provisioned and this solution correctly deploys the site columns in SP 2010 environment.

2. Managed Metadata Service Application Dtabase from SP 2010 FARM has been restored and attached in the destination SP 2013 FARM.

3. I have not changed the GUID's of fields in existing solution

Has anyone faced similar issue or is there any known issue while migrating and deploying the site columns from SP 2010 to SP 2013??

Any suggestions around this are welcome.

Creating a web application and connecting it to attached database..

Hi

For immigration my farm and it's web appications and its data, I have created a new farm and I have moved my "content database" to the new farm from this way:

First : Detach the databases from the current SQL Server instance

Second: Copy all files that are associated with the databases (.mdf, .ndf, and .ldf), to the new destination server that runs SQL Server

Third: Attach the databases to the new destination server that runs SQL Server

but there is a seriouse problem, I don't know how to connect my new web application to this attached database.. may be I have a problem in creating the web application..

would you please help me?

Restore site collections to another farm permission question

Hi experts,

I've got a request to restore a site collection from backup.  I wanted to setup a new SP farm in the same AD exclusively for site restore. But the only question is that after restoration, will i have to reconfigure all the permissions in the site?

Configure SQL always on Configuration for SharePoint 2013 Server Farm

Configured SharePoint 2013 farm with SQL server 2012 AOAG group.

When the SQL database fails over to the secondary instance . I get a message as follows

We apologize for any inconvenience, but we've made the site read only while we're making some improvements.

It seems like it is in read mode.

Is it just a warning that can be ignored or am I missing an important step during configuration.

I have configured the SQL AOAG(Always on Availability group) in Synchronous mode.

Steps so far

  • Installed SharePoint binaries and configured SharePoint with SQL server
  • Installed SQL on two SQL servers. Configured AOAG group with a Listener
  • Configured SQL alias name for SharePoint Always configuration in Synchronous mode
  • When the SQL instance on the first primary instance is stopped. The secondary SQL server automatically becomes the primary and SharePoint successfully renders but it has the message.
  • In SQL the databases appear as synchronized on the primary and secondary instance.
  • Manual fail-over and using fail-over wizard have the same effect as shown below

I also can see the following critical error in the ulsViewer Logs which implies it is an an read only mode

SharePoint Cannot update database on SQL Server instance SQL01. Database (....) is read/only. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below. Failed to update SharePoint_Config database because the database is read-only.

Newsfeed not showing post under everyone "Show More posts"

still all of the sudden Everyone only shows one post and when Show more post is clicked no more is shown

I've re-populated the feed  - the cachehost is up and running - so how do I fix this ?

SSRS integrated Mode Stuck In Provisioning

I have a dedicated SSRS box (SSQLRS) in my farm which has the 'SQL Server Reporting Services Service' started. I have the same service showing on my Web Front End (SWFE) but the service is stuck on starting. When I run get-SPRSDatabase I get 'Provisioning' as the status. This has been like this for months as I've been unable to get it to either a stopped or started state.

I believe this may be the root cause of our current issue, which is that the  WFE is now showing up in the Health  Analyzer's Availability category  as 'One or more servers is not responding.' This is preventing the creation of new sites and no timer jobs are running.

How can I get the Service to STOP on the WFE ?

Disable IIS logs through IIIS config

Hi all,

I am currently using SharePoint Server 2013. Is there any solution on how to disable IIS logs through IIS? The IIS logs are consuming disk space on C drive (Current location: C:\inetpub\logs\LogFiles) and it keeps on increasing up to 300 MB on a daily basis.

Please note that the SharePoint installation is on C drive.

Active users are getting "The My Site of [User] is scheduled for deletion in 14 days.

Hi Life Savers,

I have SharePoint 2013 farm and this morning many active users complaining that their manages getting following email:

The My Site of [User] is scheduled for deletion in 14 days. As their manager you are now the temporary owner of their site. This temporary ownership gives you access to the site to copy any business-related information you might need. To access the site use this URL:

All users are active so why their My Site is scheduled for deletion.

Openin documents from sharepoint in office

Hi,

Recently we migrated the authentication for sharepoint 2013. After that we were unable to open the documents in browser as well as in office. After running the command New-SPWOPIBinding, documents opened in browser. But if we try to open in office, it asks for the authentication which was not the case earlier.

Does anyone know the cause for this and how can it be resolved?

External Data Refresh Failed Issue

Hi,

We're having an issue with one users account where by they are experiencing an issue when opening a excel report in Sharepoint which works correctly for others but for this specific user they're getting a data refresh error (the technical detail is detailed below). This has been attempted on multiple machines but the bellow error appears. 

Error: Object must implement IConvertible.. The exception was raised by the IDataReader interface.
The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed. 

We've attempted to open it through excel desktop applications but we still get the error. As the report will show up but without the most up-to-date information. Would anyone know why this is failing ?

Updating Friendly URL in Term Store, Page not Found

Hi ,

         I have a term configured in the Metadata Store called About, the target page for this term is mapped to /Company/Aboutus/Pages/default.aspx . This all is working fine. Now i had to update the URL from About to About-us. I updated using the customize friendly URL option while leaving the target page as it is.

When i browsed the page i can see the navigation is updated with the new URL, when i click , it goes to Page not found..

Is there any step i am missing or any cache ?

SharePoint 2013 BLOB Cahce

We have a question that wanted someone to clarify/confirm.

When we enable BLOB cache on a SharePoint Server 2013 WFE and specify the file types, then those file types will be cached at the WFE server at the location specified for the max age specified in the web.config of the web application.

So, now a user A requests a page for the first time i.e. assuming that the site is being accessed for the very first by a user, it will trigger and download the files from SQL Server and in the WFE cache.

Questions:

  1. Now, a user B access the same page for the first time, would he get the files from the WFE cache or not? Assuming that the content shown the page is exactly the same for both the user i.e. no user specific contennt and it consists of CSS, images, JS files.
  2. Now, user A again access the same page i.e. after closing the browser (say in few mins) would he get the files from the WFE cache?

Export a Document from SharePoint Designer - shows "Error Retrieving - the connection time out or aborted by the server"

Hi Folks,

Issue:

Unable to export a document using SharePoint designer 2013. shows "Error Retrieving document.docx - the connection time out or aborted by the server"

Following Analysis:

1. Connection time value is set to web-application web.config "99999" - Same error

2. Export and import method from SharePoint power-shell works fine

3. Why through SharePoint designer doesn't work.

especially the "Upgrade SharePoint Foundation desiredVersion : 15"

IS this an upgrade that has gone wrong ?

I am using SharePoint 2013 SP1 September 2016 CU

This manifests itself in the ULS log when clicking a "Share" Button on the Share Application Page.
