Does sharepoint 2016 support workflow 2010 created using sharepoint designer

$

I am working on a sharepoint 2013 enterprise server. and using sharepoint designer and workflow 2010, i have created many list workflows. the workflows mainly send emails, update some fields, etc..

First Question. now my question is about if sharepoint server 2016 will support workflow 2010? so if we decide to upgrade our SharePoint server 2013 to 2016 will these workflow works well ?

Second Question. now i do not want to use workflow 2013 at this stage, because i read some articles and seems it will require installing workflow manager 2013 inside sharepoint farm.. so i need to test it first on test environment before doing so on live server, which will consume a lot of time. so at this stage are there any drawbacks of keep using workflow 2010 with SP 2013, if we look at it in respect to the fact that we might upgrade our SharePoint to 2016 in the future ?

Thanks

Moving State Service and Word Automation Services

When upgrading SharePoint from 2010 to 2013/2016, is it necessary to migrate the State Service Application, or can I just create a new one on the new farm?

Backup-SPSite : Invalid column name 'FullUrl'.

Hello,

I'm attempting to backup my path based site collections in SharePoint 2013.  Around half my site collections are receiving the error below when running a Backup-SPsite command.  The other half of my site collections backup successfully.

Backup-SPSite $siteURL -Path $backupFilePath

Backup-SPSite : Invalid column name 'FullUrl'.
At <snip>.ps1:21 char:5
+     Backup-SPSite $siteURL -Path $backupFilePath
+     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo          : InvalidData: (Microsoft.Share...mdletBackupSite:SPCmdletBackupSite) [Backup-SPSite], SqlException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : Microsoft.SharePoint.PowerShell.SPCmdletBackupSite

I receive a similar error when using this command as well:

stsadm -o backup -url $siteURL-filename $backupFilePath -backupmethod full

Invalid column name 'FullUrl'.

My best guess is this is a column that was added to the database from a product called K2 BlackPearl, which we no longer have installed or have a current support contact.  These databases were upgraded from SharePoint 2010.

Does anyone have any suggestions how to bypass or fix this error?

Thanks,

Dane

CacheHost

Renamed a server - but forgot to rename the AppFabric / Dist. cache

Now almost everything related gives me errors

Use-cachecluster

Use-CacheCluster : ErrorCode<ERRCAdmin040>:SubStatus<ES0001>:Failed to connect to hosts in the cluste

Stop-CacheCluster
Stop-CacheCluster : ErrorCode<ERRCAdmin008>:SubStatus<ES0001>:No hosts running in cluster.

Get-Cachehost gives me this;

HostName : CachePort     Service Name            Service Status Version Info
--------------------     ------------            -------------- ------------
OLDSERVERNAME:22233 AppFabricCachingService UNKNOWN        0 [0,0][0,0]

When trying to remove it:

Unregister-CacheHost: ErrorCode<ServiceNotConfigured>:SubStatus<ES0001>:Service is not configured on this host. Run Add-CacheHost to configure.

Exported the config - and adjusted it to new server name - then trying to import the config

Import-CacheClusterConfig C:\temp\af.txt
Import-CacheClusterConfig : Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

So it's to start over or does someone have the magic bullet?

Desired State Configuration add snapin

Hi

I cant find information about this issue anywhere, so I shall try my luck here:-)

Using server 2012R2 with Powershell 5 and Desired State Configuration.

I have created a DSC module with dscresources (class 5) for configuring SharePoint. Meaning additional configurations in addition to the SharePointDSC module in PowerShell Gallery and github repository.

When running SharePoint cmdlets in powershell it is neccessary to add the SharePoint snapin:

 if ((Get-PSSnapin -Registered -Name 'microsoft.sharepoint.powershell') -ne $null)
        {
            try
            {
                Add-PSSnapin 'microsoft.sharepoint.powershell'
                Write-Debug 'Added microsoft.sharepoint.powershell snapin'
            }
            catch
                {
                    throw 'There was a problem loading snapin microsoft.sharepoint.powershell.'
                }
        }
        else
        {
            throw 'microsoft.sharepoint.powershell snapin is not installed on this system!'
        }

However, when running my mof (Managed Object Format) file with verbose I get the message:

PowerShell DSC resource SkaDscResourceSharePoint failed to execute Test functionality with error message: There was a problem loading snapin microsoft.sharepoint.powershell.+ CategoryInfo : InvalidOperation: (:) [], CimException+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : ProviderOperationExecutionFailure+ PSComputerName : localhost

I have tried just adding the snapin like this

add-PSSnapin microsoft.sharepoint.powershell

But that gives me the error :

An item with the same key has already been added

Any hints and tips are welcome!

Hi,

I am installing SP dev environment. and after successfully deployment will go to install Prod.

2 SQL Node, single Nic, windows fail over cluster, and sql always on.

1 SP application server.

1 SP WFE server.

Question is.

Windows fail-over cluster do we need Share virtual name/IP?

SQL installation do i need standalone on both sql servers or do i need to install sql failover option?

If i choose sql standalone installation and configured always on and add 2nd sql node and test DB. In sql always on listener i choose DNS name and IP. is that correct?

I install first SharePoint vm, question is when i run configuration wizard which DB server i enter? sql node1 or sql node2 or SQL always on Listener name? or availability group name? please help me which option i choose.

and do i need to add manually sharepoint config and other web app database in always on group?

Hello,

We just migrated a site from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 and myself (but more importantly my users) have discovered that the address book icon is missing on the Assigned To field.  Is there a way to get that back?

Here is what our 2010 OOB "New Item" form looked like (with the address book highlighted):

Here is what it looks like now in 2013 (with the address book icon missing)

External Data Refresh Failed Issue

Hi,

We're having an issue with one users account where by they are experiencing an issue when opening a excel report in Sharepoint which works correctly for others but for this specific user they're getting a data refresh error (the technical detail is detailed below). This has been attempted on multiple machines but the bellow error appears.

Error: Object must implement IConvertible.. The exception was raised by the IDataReader interface.
The current operation was cancelled because another operation in the transaction failed

We've attempted to open it through excel desktop applications but we still get the error. As the report will show up but without the most up-to-date information. Would anyone know why this is failing ?

Guidance on Running Repair from Programs and Features

My sole Web Front End server is being flagged by the Health Analyzer as not responding. I've run through all of the tired and true methods which have not resolved the issue. The WFE would come back but after so many hours it would become non responsive. I'd like to run a repair o nit before rebuilding. There is a bit on this by Steve Mann here but it doesn't say how to prepare the farm for running this. Do I need to detach the WFE from the farm via the config wizard before repairing or should it remain as is, attached but non-responsive?

How do I remove SSRS Service from a single WFE?

$

In Services on Server, I have SQL Server Reporting Services Service stuck in 'Stopping' status (unprovisioning). I would like to remove this from my server. Additionally, I have one on an application server that is dedicated to running SSRS (integrated mode) which is Started even though I have removed the Service via the CA Manage Services interface (after running Remove-SPRSServiceApplication) AND I have dismounted the databases.

I would like to get back to a clean slate without these showing up and start up again at the point of creating a new SQL Server Reporting Services Service for my farm.

How do I clean up my Farm so that I can create a new service instance without the dregs of the old service lying around?

Does SharePoint 2013 Support SAML 1.1 encrypted tokens? SAML 2.0 encypted tokens?

$

All,

Can you tell me if SharePoint 2013 supports SAML 1.1 encrypted or SAML 2.0 encrypted tokens? If so, how does one configure such a trust in powershell?  Is the powershell materially different than an unencrypted token would be configured?  Here is an example powershell, wonder what would be done differently than below code:

# Make sure the claim types are properly defined in the ADFS server
$map = New-SPClaimTypeMapping -IncomingClaimType "http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2005/05/identity/claims/emailaddress" -IncomingClaimTypeDisplayName "EmailAddress" -SameAsIncoming
$map2 = New-SPClaimTypeMapping -IncomingClaimType "http://schemas.microsoft.com/ws/2008/06/identity/claims/role" -IncomingClaimTypeDisplayName "Role" -SameAsIncoming
$map3 = New-SPClaimTypeMapping -IncomingClaimType "http://schemas.sp.local/EmployeeStatus" -IncomingClaimTypeDisplayName "EmployeeStatus" -SameAsIncoming

# The realm will identify the web app in ADFS. It is generally created in the form "urn:something:something_else"
$realm = "urn:sp-server-2010.sp.local:sharepoint2010"

# Use the certificate that has been exported from the ADFS server
$cert = New-Object System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Certificate2("c:\adfs20Certificate.cer")

# The url below will tell SharePoint where to redirect to in order to authenticate with the STS
# so this should have the ADFS url, plus the protocol (Windows integrated security - "/adfs/ls")
$signinurl = "https://adfs20.sp.local/adfs/ls"

# Adds the STS (AD FS 2.0) to SharePoint
$ap = New-SPTrustedIdentityTokenIssuer -Name "ADFS20 Provider" -Description "SharePoint secured by ADFS20" -realm $realm -ImportTrustCertificate $cert -ClaimsMappings $map,$map2,$map3 -SignInUrl $signinurl -IdentifierClaim $map.InputClaimType

# The certificate imported from the ADFS should be added to the trusted store
New-SPTrustedRootAuthority -Name "ADFS Token Signing Root Authority" -Certificate $cert

How to enable Token Encryption with SharePoint 2013 and ADFS 3.0

$

I'm trying to configure a "secure" SharePoint Web Application that uses ADFS Claims, Token Signing and Token Encryption.

I've managed to get ADFS working with Token Signing but am struggling with the Token Encryption feature that adds additional security to the system (even though all coms is over SSL).

When I add the Token Encryption certificate into the relevant tab on the Relying Party Trust on the ADFS GUI I get the following error when logging in to the SharePoint Application:

[SecurityTokenException: ID4014: A SecurityTokenHandler is not registered to read security token ('EncryptedData', 'http://www.w3.org/2001/04/xmlenc#').]

It seems that SharePoint isn't able to Decrypt the token, even though the relevant certificate has been installed and the "SP Trusted Root Authority" has been created.

I've seen a few articles that suggest you have to manually update the web.config file with some code to enable the Token Decryption process but none of them make much sense to my non-coding brain.

Cheers for now

Possible to have custom permission with manage permission but exclude Full Control?

Hi,

Not sure if this is even possible. Can I assign a custom permission which it has manage permission rights but limit the permission level that can be given to a user or group? Let's say only Edit or below.

The situation is that I want to give the manager the right to maintain users, but not able to adjust himself to have Full Control.

Thanks!

Remove Anonymous User Access

$

Hi! I have been managing our SharePoint site for just a couple weeks now and all of the sudden on a single page, the Anonymous Users group appeared in the permissions list. This site has unique permissions and I do not see the Anonymous User group on the parent site. My ribbon does not have an Anonymous Users Access button (as seen below). I recently added some external users to our site and am worried this caused this Anonymous Users access.

1. With this Anonymous User Group and Permission Levels set at Entire Website, can anyone with the URL view this site?! This particular part of the site should only be INTERNAL with the exception to the four people I allowed external access.

2. How do I remove the anonymous user? I have looked at my Site Collection Features and the Limited-access user permission lockdown mode IS ACTIVE. Also, there is a lot of content on the site and resetting the site is not really a viable option.

Thank you for any feedback. It is greatly appreciated!

Is SharePoint 2013 compatible with SQL 2014

We are looking to upgrade to SQL 2014 and I wanted to see if it is compatible with the SP 2013 Enterprise On Premise servers. Also, we have some workflows that are 2010 workflows. Would they still work using the new SQL 2014?

SharePoint logs consuming up to 1 GB per day.. How to truncate logs?

$

Hi all,

I am currently using SharePoint Server 2013. I have noticed that the SharePoint logs (C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS) keeps on increasing and in one day around 700 MB to 1 GB is consumed on the C hard drive space? It is keeping the logs of last week as well.. Can you please advise on the best practice for archiving these logs?

Can these logs be backed up on a another drive and deleted later?

Thanks
