Sharepoint 2013 list and library ribbon grayed out on page, fine through site contents

Good day all

I've seen some posts about this with no clear solution: All lists and library ribbon controls are grayed out when accessing through a page. Perfect through site contents. Not permissions (using farm admin account), not browser related.

SharePoint site - Time Zone issue : Novosibirsk (UTC +06:00)

Hello,

We have issue inside our SharePoint On-Premise farm.

Time Zone for Novosibirsk should be (UTC +07:00) but we still have (UTC +06:00)  -> even if we install latest CU.

When we check server timezone - looks OK:

I think issue occurs globally because even on SharePoint Online we observe this issue:

Do you know how to fix it ?

New Sharepoint Foundation 2013 First Time Installation

We are getting ready to roll out SharePoint Foundation 2013 into our organization. Since we haven't previously had SharePoint in our organization, I want to be sure I'm setting up the environment to allow for future upgrades. What subdomain would be best for use with this? can I use sharepoint.domain.com or would it be better to go with sharepoint2013.domain.com? Any other tips for a first time SharePoint deployment would also be appreciated.

Popularity trends reports stopped?

Can't work out why our popularity trends have stopped about a month ago.

The Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Import was running but the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Processing re enabled that yesterday but I'm still not seeing any update in the figures?

I need to build a report regards Document Viewing\downloading. And an alert should be triggered when someone is accessing a document, When someone is downloading the document from Doc. Library. 

any mode would be welcome here ... PS script, OOB method, event handler, workflow etc.

How to Export and Import User Profiles - Migrating to different SharePoint Server

We're migrating form one SharePoint Server to different SharePoint Server. 

I have challenge in migrating the User Profiles.

Is it possible to export user profiles form one SharePoint Server and import to different one?

Can someone please share information on this?

Incoming email issue

Hi all,

I have set up incoming email in my farm on one of the list. But from last three days I am seeing Spam notification folder is created and the folder is empty.

I've a button that creates new document based on a template - but I can't find the template in the content type...

Utilize BCS for User Profile Service a good idea?

Hello and thank you in advance!

My team and I wrote a script that updates active directory profile information from various systems. It works like a charm and accomplishes everything we need for the User Profiles Service to work flawlessly. It would even fix over 2,000 inaccuracies .

However,  executive management won't bite and doesn't have a good reason as to why, other than....they HAVE to use the data warehouse they built.

Is using a BCS to sync a sql view to UPS attributes a bad practice? Any reasonable documentation on this? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. THanks.

Upgrading Service App (Business Data Connectivity service) to 2016, can't find "Start"?

I'm following https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj839719(v=office.16).aspx

I want to start the BDC service. My 2016 farm consists of an APP, Distributed Cache, WFE, Search, and SQL server.

In Manage Services on Server, I've cycled through each of the servers to see if one of them had a "Start" next to Business Data Connectivity service" but all are stopped without a start.

On my APP server, checked Managed Metadata (started), PerformancePoint (Stopped, no Start), and Secure Store Service (Started).

Document Set with folders

Hello,

I'm having an issue in SharePoint 2013 on-premise using the 2010 layouts. this started to happen with a migrated site collection from 2010, but then I tried with a clean site collection on 2013, but using the template of 2010, and it keeps happening, so this really seems to be a bug of SP2013 using the layout of 2010.

the steps to replicate the issue are:

  1. create a site collection, using the 2010 template version
  2. on a document library, activate management of content types, add the content type "Document Set"
  3. create a document set, and inside create a folder, with sub folder, with sub folder... until you get the error. this should break at second or third folder level.

this is somehow generating a wrong html code in the "docsethomepage.aspx", it is using an unexpected "&".

The problem is that this error is invalidating the entire page, so no client side features can be used (like the ribbon, or the breadcrumb) .

The file does not exist when I add new service Application

I tried to add new "SQL Server Reporting Services service Application", but failed and SP2013 show The file '/_admin/Reportserver/reportserviceappsetting.aspx' does not exist. does anybody knows how to fix it ?

Best location for 16 GB of photos

Our customer has some old photos that they want to have accessible from within their Sharepoint 2013 site.  The total size is about 16GB.  These photos will not be accessed frequently (most are archived photos from many years ago).  Is it better to store them in a Sharepoint content database or on a file server in remote BLOB storage?

Unable to view parent folder when securing a sub folder

I am attempting to secure a sub folder within a folder. When I do that, the user I am limiting access to the sub folder is not able to see the parent folder in the document library, so they can't get to the sub folder. Now I can give them a URL with me at the parent folder and just copy my URL to the user and they can then see the sub folder. Just seems odd that out of the box web part for document libraries isn't able to view the parent folder so the user can see the sub folder. I will try and describe that below.

What I am trying to accomplish, is this possible?"User 1", should only see "Sub Folder 1" under "Folder 1" and all files under "Sub Folder 1", nothing else (except the folder name from the parent"Folder 1", no file contents in "Folder 1" should be visible). "Sub Folder 2" shouldn't be visible to this user either.

*Example below shows library, folders, and items (files) and what was done to them, the amount of dashes ("-") is depicting the level so "Folder 1" and "Folder 2" are a the root of the library at 1 "-".

Library 1 (Read permission given to "User 1" on the library)

-Folder 1 (stopped inheritance, removed "User 1")

--File 1 (inherits from parent)

--File 2 (inherits from parent)

---Sub folder 1 (stopped inheritance, added "User 1" as read only)

----Sub File 1 (inherits from parent)

---Sub Folder 2 (stopped inheritance, removed "User 1")

-Folder 2 (stopped inheritance, removed "User 1")

How to setup a Monthly SharePoint Security Audit

Is there a way to get a comprehensive audit report of security who can access what on a site collection, or even a break down on sites with in the site collection, how about a report on who has access to items with in lists and document libraries?

I realize that there is no way to tell me who is in a AD group that has been applied using a SharePoint tool.. but as  start I need to know the who is accessing the what in SharePoint.

I installed SharePoint 2016 all on one server right now as not many people are using it. Is it possible to load other servers using minrole and set them up as search, web, etc. to take over the work from the single server or do I have to rebuild the farm to do this?

Why user with Read permission can rename document library (and delete it?)

Hello.

We have SharePoint 2013 Enterprise migrated from Foundation 5 month ago.

Everything works fine.

But i have some issue with permission rights on some site:

User with Read permissions (checked from Check Permission on Library Settings)

can rename Document Library.

Also the "delete this library" command is allowed to him (but I'm not sure that is works).

I found that if i set "Read" permissions on low level (Central Administration -Application Management - Web Applications - User Policy) it works correct but it's incorrect way to strict users permissions.

What should i check?

What is correct way to restrict renaming\deleting documents\library from user with Read rights?

webpart - random behavior

I previously posted a problem regarding a custom Webpart – Its on the users MySite and “reads” item from another (calendar) list on another WebApplication - on the calendar list there's this columns: 

  • Title
  • Description
  • Start date
  • End date
  • Status
  • Display (checkmark)   

The problem:  New items created doesn’t show up – old items shows up fine (so the Webpart configuration and the rights across is OK)

But as mentions new items created on that calendar "read” list doesn’t show up – it’s Very random behavior – depending which Item that's edited - if I edit an old one it shows fine – and if one old one – doesn’t show I can take another old items and edit – then this shows fine!   

I've checked and compared Webconfigs and all other settings that I can imagine.  

Can it be dist. cache related? - or other cache, tokens settings?   

I need some input in the trouble shooting?
