New "Site Contents" page not inheriting correct global navigation

$

Hello,

The new "Site Contents" view that MS has started to preview looks nice and seems snappy. However, I've run into an issue and I'm not sure if it's the preview or my site.

I have the global navigation for the top level site set to Structural Nav and only to display the sub-sites below this, not pages. All of the other sub-sites inherit the global nav from the top-level domain, so I should not be seeing any pages in my global nav.

My global navigation is fine in the current rollout (i.e. it only shows subsides), however inside any of the new site contents pages, I see the 5 pages that I have on the top level site, messing up my global navigation. Is anyone else running into this kind of issue with the new Site Contents view?

Thanks in advance,

M

People Picker not resolving Forms Based Accounts

$

Hi all,

I have an environment with SP2013 Foundation, with only 1 Server with SQL Express.

The Farms had as well configured Forms Based Authentication, and the normal AD authentication (only one domain).

This has been working great for a long time, I has able to create Forms accounts, and grant access on SharePoint directly, as well as AD accounts.

In last days I had a requirement to include in this farm another domain (trusted domain). after all domain configuration, I needed to allow Sharepoint People picker to resolve names from this new domain. So I preformed the recommended setup: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg602075(v=office.15).aspx#Anchor_4

Problem is that after this configuration, the people picker (on permissions, or on user fields) stop resolving Forms accounts.

I checked the Web.config of all WebApplications and also of the STS service, and they all have the required configuration (Membership>Provider & RoleManager>Provider).

Imporant: the FBA is still working so this is not related with the connection to SQL, I'm able to log in with Forms account on Sharepoint, I'm also able to created, edit delete, accounts in Sharepoint (using SP FBA pack). I just can't get the people picker from resolving Forms Accounts

hope someone can help.

thanks

Records Managment

Hello,

I'm fairly new to SharePoint and I've got a quick question. So I understand that SharePoint has a Document Repository where documents can be archived. You can do this through a sub site or site collection. Well lets say that I have a site called ITS and every week there is a report that each of the Admins have to turn into the IT director but each week we want to store each report. These reports are held in the Document Library in the ITS sub site but how do you push that document from the site to a records repository sub site? I apologize if this is confusing.

I believe this is related to something being awry with my User Profile Service or the Synchronization service. I discovered this issue this morning while performing my Monday AM checks.

The folder with the GUID of our SP Config database is present at C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config, as on all 3 servers in our farm. This was verified to match in the registry. The Profile Service runs on our App Server. There is one file on that server which gest stuck as a tmp file. When I open it I see it is for Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.UserProfileApplication.

The UPS service is running with a dedicated service account. I verified this in Central Administration under 'Configure Service Accounts'. I selected the User Profile Synchronization Service and the dedicated account is there. When I click OK, however, I get a 403 error. The time I do this matches the time that the config file is unable to make it past the .tmp phase to an .xml file.

An error is logged int he ULS viewer:

The following error occured while trying to initialize the timer: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config\e86667eb-1477-4c47-9ed2-239a5527f521\f93021df-28f8-4541-a0bf-185c55b3015e.xml' is denied.

This xml file in the error is the one related to the UPS mentioned above. The Account is a member of the local administrators group which has Full Control on the config/<guid> directory so it doesn't appear to be related to the file system rights..

I paused the SharePoint Timer Service on the App server, removed the files and when resetting the cache.ini to 1, noticed that it already read 1 despite there being a couple thousand xml files in the directory. I imagine this is because the is encountered before the cache is fully written.

The other ULS error is

The timer service could not initialize its configuration, please check the configuration database.  Will retry later.

The Synch service account has connect rights to the config db. The account that runs the timer service (farm account) obviously has more rights.

I've paused the timer and cleaned out the cache on every server with no effect. I verified the service account password was valid and the account not locked.

Outside Access of SharePoint Through a WAP

$

We currently have our SharePoint set up on a WAP server using pass-through authentication.  The problem I am having is getting the browser outside of our internal network to pop-up the user login window.  When I browse to the URL from outside our network, the page sits there blank for a while as the page tries to load.  After a few seconds, it appears as though it times out, but I don't get an error message from the browser, it instead just sits there on a blank page.

Tracing to the URL from an outside DNS (8.8.8.8), I can see that the URL is resolving to the right external IP address.  I have also added alternate access mapping to https://sharepointserver.domain.com, and I can access the SharePoint site from internal resources.

Everything appears to be setup correctly, but I still cannot access the SharePoint site from an outside network connection.  I was wondering how I could trace the path into the SharePoint site or what part of the external setup am I missing?  I have checked resources on getting external access setup with ADFS authentication, but that won't work for us.  Any other help would be appreciated.

Thank You,
-Trevor Bensen

Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPAppStateQueryJobDefinition failed 3 times in a row

Hi, we have had the following critical error come up on our (SP Server 2013) application server :

“Fast revocation part of the Execute method of the app upgrade/killbit timer job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPAppStateQueryJobDefinition failed 3 times in a row. This failure requires on-call engineer attention from both SharePoint and SharePoint Store teams.” (Task Category is App Deployment)

This was followed immediately by the following critical error:

“The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPAppStateQueryJobDefinition (ID 881a2c17-39e5-4e86-89c5-f7e7289ca448) threw an exception. More information is included below.

Sorry, we can't seem to connect to the SharePoint Store. Try again in a bit.” (Task Category is Timer)

I'm not seeing anything in the Central Admin Health Analyzer issues that relate to this - also appears to be the first time is has happened.

I have had a look online but can’t seem to find anything similar.

I got this as the only entry in the failed jobs

User profile - Feed Cache Repopulation Job Failed

some times it happens 1 time a day other days it might fail 3 times a day - all at random times

11-07-2016 10:40
11-07-2016 10:10
11-07-2016 06:45

The error is this:
Unexpected exception in FeedCacheService.IsRepopulationNeeded: Cache cluster is down, restart the cache cluster and Retry.

It runs every 5 mins  - so no big deal - but (why) is the Cache Cluster down so random and how does this restart it self?

SharePoint PowerShell - Remove user ONLY from specific library and NOT from site

Hello,

I want to remove a certain users from specific site library and NOT from whole site using Poweshell

From UI, its easy to remove by going into site -> library -> library settings -> Permission for this document library -> click on target permission group -> select user and remove.

however while doing the same using Powershell, the user is also appeared to be removed from same group available under site permissions, and hence loosing access to whole site instead of just to targeted document library.

can someone please suggest what i am missing/doing wrong in below code snippet?

below is my PS code for reference: (please ignore closing brackets as i have intentionally only copied the code to be shared.

foreach($group in $list.RoleAssignments.Groups) { #read users of each group foreach($user in $group.Users) { if($user.UserLogin -eq "<any login name>") { #remove user from group

$group.RemoveUser($user)

Hi

I am facing some weird issue, while installation of SharePoint 2013 on premise wsp through PowerShell getting below error. Please note I am suing feature receiver.

"Failed to load receiver assembly "" for feature "Test_SetupPage" (ID: xxx).: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'full assembly' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

If I re-run same command then deployment goes fine becuase in meantime dll is there in GAC but first attempt always fail.

From one of the article if found that if I change key.snk then it will work I tried and surprisingly it works. I want to know the reason why with existing key it is not working and we dont want to change existing key as it is already referred in PROD.

Secondly I check with fusion log and it says "The same bind was seen before, and was failed with hr = 0x8XXXX"

Any help appreciated. thanks. -KS

How many limited user does it synchronize in each time from AD to SharePoint User Profile Service both incremental and full Synchronization

I have 2 questions as  follows.

-How many  limited user does it synchronize in each time both incremental and full Synchronization?

  - Are there Microsoft  document to refer  this issue?

I experienced a strange problem while synchronizing user profile from AD to SharePoint by Synchronization Service Manager.

I found that  all users have not been imported at once after the first full synchronization completed .

Actually I anticipate the total number of expected user from AD  will be  synchronized about   30,000 users but the result is only 6,000 user for the first time.

Afterwards  I changed to  from full mode to incremental mode and synchronize it again  , It appear that  the number of synchronized user have increased gradually . I continue to synch about 5 times until all users were imported  completely.  However I see a noticeable point in each sync time  I found  "stopped-database-connection-lost" status shown in miisclient.exe as figure below along with FIMSynchronizationService  error in window log as  table below.
