Hi Everyone,

We have not done any patching and updates but receiving the following error while running workflows in preprod environment

There is a version mismatch between the Web server and the content databases, and connections to the data have been blocked to avoid data loss. This can happen when a service pack is not completely installed. Notify your server administrators so that they can upgrade the Web server and the databases to the same version. For more information about installing service packs and updates, see the Microsoft Web site (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=177163).

This error is intermittent and causing most of the workflows failed in the server.

Other technet forums suggested to run the psconfig command to fix this issue.

PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd secureresources

Is it fine to run the above command though we didnt install any updates/patches in the servers. Should we take the backup before running the above command?

Share:Point 2013 multi server farm order of rebooting servers with minimum outage time

Hi Everyone,

we are having SP 2013 multi server farm with 2 WFEs, 3 app servers with workflow manager and 2 search servers & 1 SQL server All these are VM ware machines. 

Infra team is planning to upgrade VM ware tools on these boxes and rebooting is planned for all the servers .

We have plan with minimum outage time to business as follows :

Install the required patches on 1WFE, 1 App server where CA is hosted and Database server and rebooting these three servers during planned outage time.

Once the above three servers are up, make farm available to business and continue windows patching on the remaining servers.

Is this plan fine to implement in production environment? 

Do we have to follow any specific order of rebooting for SP servers like app servers first and web servers, search servers follows the queue?


Unable to change Managed account password SharePoint 2013 using GUI and Powershell

Hi all,

We are unable to change password for managed account in our farm using GUI as well as powershell. We are receiving the below error message.

Set-SPManagedAccount : The system cannot contact a domain controller to service the authentication request. Please try again later.

We tried flushing dns and changing the passsword with no luck.

Any help is highly appreciated.


How to import Excel spreadsheet into SharePoint 2013 list? (not as an attachment)

How do you import an Excel spreadsheet into a SharePoint 2013 list? Is this functionality out of the box in SharePoint 2013?

 I have figured out how to import an Excel spreadsheet into a list as an attachment in SharePoint 2013, but not directly into the list.  Upon opening the list, I would like to see all the columns, rows, and data displayed.  I do not want to open an attachment to view the data in the actual spreadsheet.  I was able to do this in SharePoint 2010, but cannot do it in SharePoint 2013.

All of the questions in previous related topics are related to SharePoint 2010 and earlier versions, so they are not helpful.

Cannot See New Record in Document Library

Good afternoon. I am supporting a SharePoint 2013 on-prem document library (on a public site) located at https://bot.ncat.edu/_layouts/15/start.aspx#/Trustee%20Profiles. One of my clients (a site owner, but not a site collection administrator) used the "+ new document" function to add a new record to the library. She can see the newly added record when she is logged in, but not when she is logged out. (She should see it when she is logged out because this is a public site). I logged in as both a site collection administrator and a farm administrator. I could not see the new record.

  1. How can we make the new record visible to the public?
  2. Why would neither a farm administrator nor a site collection administrator be able to see a record in a document library?

Hi there,

I am unable to run psconfig after running latest windows updates

server 2012R2
Sp 2013 Sp1

also getting an error: The local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets with FeatureDependencyId are not registered, when trying to runAdd-PSSnapinMicrosoft.SharePoint.PowerShell

I tried everything what I could find online nothing works :( the farm is operational central admin works and front end works

Your help greatly appreciated

People Picker shows Users deleted from Site (UIL)

Hi,

i want to restrict People Picker to Users in the Site collection using the properties:

OnlySearchWithinSiteCollection
PeopleEditorOnlyResolveWithinSiteCollection

It works as expected. People picker only resolves existing users. Not possible to add other AD Users.

Now i delete a user either by clicking (X-remove) from UserInfo Page (/_layouts/15/userdisp.aspx?id=99&force=true)

or by using powershell: >Remove-SPUser -Identity "i:0#.w|domain\username" -Web $RootWeb

In both cases People Picker still resolves the deleted user.

If i add the deleted User again the former Entry will show up with the same ID and properties in the User Information List.

Its  a good thing - if e.g. at later migrations something goes wrong because of deleted users.

But how can i hide these "Zombie" - Users  from People Picker?

Currently I am migrating my SharePoint Server 2013 environment from one domain to another. 

Can anybody help me to find the way or some powershell script which updates content web part URL as I have lot of sites and subsites. Or what be the best approach to do this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Unable to install SP1 for SharePoint Designer "The expected version of the product was not found on the system"

I have downloaded SharePoint designer 2013 32-bit on my PC. My PC is is a windows-7 64-bit with MS office 32-bit.

now i download the SharePoint Designer from the following link :-

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35491

and i chose the 32-bit . then i install it and everything is working well.

but as mentioned on the above link that i need to install the SP1 for sharepoint designer (Please make sure your installation of SharePoint Designer is up to date by using Microsoft Update, or installing Service Pack 1 fromhere) . so i download the SP1 from the following link :-

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2817441

and i chose the 32-bit. now when i tried to install the SP1 i got this error :-

so can anyone adivce on this please ?

Rank search results in SharePoint2013

Hello,

I have search web parts configured to give me results from 6 different SharePoint lists. Now I would like to rank these search results based on which SharePoint lists it's coming? meaning if it's coming from list 1, it should show up first on the result page. if it's from list 2, it should be 2nd result on the page and so on. 

Can someone please guide me how can i do it?

Sharepoint 2016 Prerequisiteinstaller Installation failed

Hi,

OS : Windows Server 2012 R2

SharePoint 2016 Prerequisite installer Installation failed with below error:

Application Server Role, Web Server (IIS) Role: configuration error

Then I have installed Web Server IIS with .Net Framework 4.5. But still SharePoint 2016 Prerequisite installer Installation failing with same error.

Hence, I tried to install Web Server IIS with .Net Framework 3.5 Features. But it failed with below message:

"Do you need to specify an alternate source path? One or more installation selections are missing source files on the destination server. The server will try to get missing source files from Windows Update, or from a location that is specified by Group Policy. You can also click the “Specify an alternate source path” link on this page to provide a valid location for the source files."

Please help me to complete SharePoint 2016 Prerequisite installer Installation.

Forward domain request from HTTP to HTTPS

Hi,

I have created SharePoint like  http://mysite.mydomain.com and extend that application to https://mysite.mydomain.com at IIS level unable HTTP redirection to http://mysite.mydomain.com -->  https://mysite.mydomain.com 

For internal network its working fine.

For internet i have publish website using Windows web application proxy using passthough.

user can access website from internet https://mysite.mydomain.com  but when user just type mysite.mydomain.com it does not work.

pls guide how to force traffic to move HTTPS when user just type  mysite.mydomain.com

Embedding Excel spreadsheet into web app

Hi,

I am following this tutorial to embed an Excel spreadsheet (that is one One Drive) to another web app via an iframe.

However, I don't see any "Embed" options like the article suggests - so I'm stuck.

Can we restore WindowsImageBackup of physical machine which is domain controller to virtual machin in Hyper-V

Hi there,

I had installed windows server 2012 standard evaluation 180 days and installed active directory, dns and group policy as well.

It was running fine until I tried to install retail version license as the edition of the server with domain controller cannot be converted with DISM (according to forums) I had to demote the server.

I added additional DC and tried to demote the previous DC but something went wrong and now the Primary and Additional both DCs are not working except the DNS from additional DC. There are 35 users who connect to Active Directory so I was thinking to restore the backup of Primary DC to a virtual machine in lab and try to figure out the licensing issue and then add the physical server as ADC and then transfer roles to it and seize but I am not been able to restore the image in to virtual machine as it says that the backup was taken in UEFI and the virtual machine has BIOS enabled.

Is it possible to restore WindowsImageBackup in to Hyper-V VM if I installed same edition of windows that was installed in Primary DC when the backup was taken?

I found in forums that the server2012 standard R2 Hyper-v supports UEFI boot support. So do I need to have R2 in Hyper-V server to be able to restore that image.

Please need help.

how to add items for a list in SP2013 work flow

Hello Gurus:

I have Windows Server 2012 R2, SQL2012, SP2103 server in standalone mode.

I prepared a list to collect the work flow output and update by create list item.  But every time I trigger my work flow, I could see my list is in edit mode, but nothing changes.

Any idea?

SharePoint 2013 Microfeed: when deleting a comment with a reply, the reply is not deleted from the microfeed.

I have the following problem:

There is a comment in the microfeed with a reply. In the microfeed the comment got ID: 18 with rootpostID: 1, the reply has ID: 19 with rootpostID: 18 so the reply is linked to the comment.

Its sounds logical to me when you deleting the comment all linked replies also are deleted.

None of this is true because when deleting a comment the reply persists in the microfeed, while following the link returns a "Looks like somebody deleted this conversation".

The problem is that the majority of my users just deleted comments, so there are a lot of replies left in the microfeed. These replies keep returning in a search result which is against our business regulations.

Is there a way to make sure all linked replies are deleted while deleting just the comment?

Not able to add AD domain group into permission

Hi All,

I am facing issues while adding AD domain group into sharepoint permission. I have already verified it the group is a security group and the issue persist for manty AD groups.

I get below error in ULS

The user does not exist or is not unique.<nativehr>0x81020054</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack>

I see the behaviour more often when i add the group and delete the group and then try to re add the group into permissions.

My sharepoint site has unique permissions with users directly provisioned.

Applying search filters at a document library

Hi all,

I am currently using SharePoint Foundation 2013. When performing a search on a document, the search is giving me all results at a subsite. Is there any search filters that can be applied at a document library level to return results found within the document library?

Please advise if this is possible.

I have windows 7 PC , and i have download sharepoint designer 32-bit from the following location :-

then i download the SP1 for it from the following link :-

now  wanted to check the current version for the sharepoint designer,,, but  i got these conflict versions:-

>> From control panel the version number is 15.0.4569.1506 :-

>>if i open SPD >> File >>Account >> About SPD i will get this version number 15.0.4615.1000:-

so why i am getting conflict versions? and which one is the most accurate ?

Could not upgrade from SharePoint Foundation 2013 to SharePoint Server 2013

Hi all,

I am current using SharePoint Foundation 2013 and I wish to upgrade to SharePoint Server 2013. I have taken a SQL database backup of SharePoint Foundation 2013 and did a restore on a new database. when trying to add a Content Database from Manage Content Database but I am getting the error message 'This content database has a schema version which is not supported in this farm'. Can you please advise how to perform the upgrade?
