Sharepoint 2013 backup restore query(user profiles)

$

We have a sharepoint portal where there is a need of nightly backup(not point of failure).

Now if we just take content db backup(excluding workflow manager, search and user profile) and in case server crashes and we rebuild another farm and restore this DB(we will do user profile sync again on new server and will setup workflow manager)

will it have proper users in assigned to columns of different sharepoint lists on new server? or do we also have to take user profile DB backup. We do not use search or long running workflows so thats not needed but important question is about 50k user profiles and hundreds assigned to columns and other people/profile columns in sharepoint list.

Setup DNS domain for SharePoint 2013 Add-ins (SharePoint Apps) on premise.

Hi

I read the following from Microsoft TechNet concerning a security issue when configure domain for SharePoint Apps.

" ..By using a separate domain name, apps for SharePoint are separated from SharePoint sites to prevent unauthorized access to user data and to reduce the possibility of cross-site scripting attacks. The use of separate URLs for apps for SharePoint and SharePoint sites is called app isolation...)

the following are our SharePoint domain and from that I want to create a domain structure for our SharePoint Apps:

current SharePoint domain:   spweb.actxt.net
For SharePoint Apps,  I plan to create a new DNS zone spwebapps.actxt.net and create a wildcard DNS record there and also create a new SSL certificate.

I think this should be what I need to prevent possible security issue with cross-site scripting attacks.

If anyone have worked with SharePoint Apps on premise or have better way or think what I have still not good enough,  please advise or comment.

Thanks

Will
having peer domains resolve the security issue of cross domain activity

Trying to find out what the name of the Subscription Settings service database is.

I'm trying to follow Microsofts instructions (https:// technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161236.aspx) for setting up apps in sharepoint, and I came to the following line.

$appSubSvc = New-SPSubscriptionSettingsServiceApplication -ApplicationPool $appPoolSubSvc -Name SettingsServiceApp -DatabaseName <SettingsServiceDB>

Where:
<SettingsServiceDB> is the name of the Subscription Settings service database.

How do I find out what the name of the Subscription Settings service database is?

I didn't setup the server or database, and theres nobody here who knows much about this. Apparently this was created and so is there but has been renamed to a non standard name, but there are a lot of databases on this server.

Are there power-shell applets that can tell me this? Or where/what should I be looking at? There is a SQL Server is on this machine but I didn't see anything obvious when looking at the databases on there. e.g. by usingPS C:\Users\test> Get-SPDatabase

Can anybody point me in the right direction as to what I'm looking to use to identify the new DB name here?

SharePoint 2013 AppFarbic Garbage Collection. How impoortant is it to enable it?

Getting errors when enable the garbage collector after I installed AppFabric 1.1 CU7 for SharePoint 2013.

I Run:

Stop-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance –Graceful

I add this to : DistributedCacheService.exe.config

<appSettings><add Key="backgroundGC" value="true"/></appSettings>

between

</ConfigSections> and

<dataCacheConfig>

And then appFabric wont start again.

Whether using

Add-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance via Central Admin

Have removed the cache aswell with no better results. (Remove-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance)

This happens on 3 different farms...

Is there a certain version of .net 4.5 that is required maybe? The O/S is Server 2012 and we are planning to upgrade to Server 2012 R2 as soon as the SharePoint updates is completed...That might very well fix this if it is .net related?

Hi,

i have a lot of applications, that installation files ar no more. What can I do, only remove from 2010 befor migrate to 2013?

AD profile import does not update the "Manager" property.

We have a SharePoint 2013 Enterprise deployment for production and has the SP1 installed (no further CU).

We are using the AD profile import (without profile synchronization service) and have mapped a few properties including Manager to be imported from the AD.

For the past few weeks, some of the users reported incorrect managers in SharePoint profiles and on troubleshooting we noticed that while the other properties like address, phone numbers etc are getting updated, the Manager field does not update.

We have tried

1. Incremental and full import.

2. Changed multiple user profile properties to ensure changes are picked up before a full crawl.

3. Created a new user profile service application.

4. Restarted user profile service and changed the server running that service.

5. Removed and re-added the Manager property mapping in SharePoint and also created a custom property mapped with the manager AD field.

Whats interesting to note is that the issue is seen for some users and not for others. Even the users in the same AD OU\container and having the same reporting manager see different behavior.

The ULS logs does not suggest any issues or failures with updating the "Manager" field.

The same configuration on the test\Dev servers work fine with the same AD domain and no issues are seen on those farms.

Any help or suggestions in getting this fixed will be appreciated.

Regards

Faisal

Authentication issue - Active Directory / ADFS

Hello

Since 4 years, we are using SharePoint in order to manage our internal documentation. All the users were accessing it mainly from Windows computers, using Windows authentication.

At the beginning of the year, we have started a project of Intranet migration and the consultant that is helping us in this project has suggested to use SharePoint for the implementation of the new Intranet. A new web application has then been created on our SharePoint platform for that Intranet. Moreover the Intranet is having one Yammer connection in order to keep track of the user activity on Yammer and one Exchange connection in order to reply to last received emails.

As the Intranet is used by all our users, we are now having not only Windows clients, but also Mac and Linux ones. Windows clients are needing only one authentication to access the full Intranet (most of the time automatic). Mac and Linux clients are having up to 4 authentication steps before accessing to the Intranet (Intranet web application, SharePoint personal site web application, Yammer, Exchange).

We have been reviewing a possible improvement for moving to a single authentication for Mac and Linux too. The only possible solution we have found is to move SharePoint from Windows authentication to ADFS one, as Yammer and Exchange are already working with ADFS authentication. Do you suggest any other solution?

The requirements we are having for this migration is that the permissions have to be kept and the personal site too. The first implementation I did was working fine, but none of the requirement was fulfill.

The second implementation I did is not working at all and I don´t see what is wrong. First of all, the second implementation cannot be removed, because SharePoint is telling me that the trusted login provider is in use, even if it is not assigned to any web application anymore. According to https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/1592c457-a960-4b05-aee1-8c1caa39945e/removesptrustedidentitytokenissuer-the-trusted-login-provider-is-in-use?forum=sharepointadminprevious, this is a due to the use of Convert-SPWebApplication. Do you know how to fix this?

If I try to access my Intranet Web application with Windows authentication, it works perfect, but if I try to access it with ADFS authentication, I am having the error "Server Error in / Application". I have been reviewing everything and don´t see what could be wrong. Reviewing the information sent from ADFS page to our SharePoint web application, I am seeing:
