column updates in sharepoint concurrency issue

We have 2 columns in sp list, one quantity and one price. 2/multiple different users are going to update 40 to 50 values of each column items at the same time sometimes in UI in custom web part in bulk. Now will there be concurrency issues when one user updates 10 rows quantity and one updates 10 rows of price at the same time? How to handle this?

Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Sandboxed Code Service won't start

Hi, the Sandboxed Code service is stuck on "Starting" even though the SharePoint User Code Host service is started and running under the Farm account which is local admin. There are no errors in the event log and from the ULS log all I see is a whole bunch of Upgrade lines like this:

Missing Server side Dependencies - MissingWebPart

One of our sites since we migrated to SharePoint 2013 has been triggering the missing server side dependencies message in Health Analyzer.  Up until this point it hasn't stopped us from applying patches etc.  I figured I would get around to cleaning all these message up and I have all but one.  I have read and tried everything on the web in regards to identifying the site that contains this error web part.  However, those pages do not contain the web part and I have removed all version history of these pages.  I do not want to directly modify these entries in SQL as mentioned by many users out there that Microsoft does not support this approach.  The third party web part no longer exists from what I have researched so this isn't even an option to reinstall and fix this.  I'm hoping someone can provide some guidance on how to permanently remove this error(other then simply ignoring them)

web part Options greyed out

I am trying to change the web part, I can go in and set a new web link for the start page and it shows it, but it will not let me save the page. I have full permissions to the site and I have tried checking the page out but I don't see the options to save my changes, things like approve and reject are greyed out as well.

The actual web part data shows as changed but the video on main page doesn't change.

Any clue on what's going on? I am very new to sharepoint so I may be missing something very basic.

User Profile Service Application - Profile DB/database is growing rapidly

Hi,

We had setup a new environment and we are seeing an issue which we have never come across all these days.

Profile Database of USPA is growing more than 200 GB and we are running out of space in database.

We got around 50000 profiles same as other environment where the DB size is around 4 GB.

First we installed APP/WFE in same machine then we tried to move WFE to dedicated server. I hope this shouldn't have caused any issue but this is the only thing which we had done newly when compared with other environment.

User Profile Service Application - Activity Feed Cleanup Job, Runs and cleans up around 100 GB of data, but again it grows to 200+ GB.

This is newly set environment and not more than 5 users are there in this new environment.

Currently all our environments got APP?WFE in same server so we are planning to scale up that is where we are finding this issue. Really we cannot afford to delete USPA and recreate as we got heavy usage in Production.

Was curious to know which table is taking more space and below is the split. User Profile Service Application - Activity Feed Cleanup Job is cleaning up only 100 + GB and then it is getting filled.

Deploy custom web part to SharePoint online

We have created Custom Web part from SharePoint server 15 with sandbox or Farm solution. Need to import .wsp file to SharePoint online site. After uploaded the file to solutions, While going to activate the solutions. It shows the below error.

What is the proper procedure to handle domain user name change?

We are using SharePoint 2013 on-premise Enterprise edition. MySiteHost is setup for this farm. Recently, we need to change all user ID on Active Directory from "Myfirm/12345" to "Myfirm/0012345".

I have performed some test in test environment. The outcome is RANDOM. I changed 10 users' ID. Before user profile sync, everything is working as before. After sync, all the personal site changed from xxx/personal/12345/ to xxx/personal/0012345/. It is expected. However some users' personal site ruin up because the theme file changed. (error is like

Some users' newsfeed are lost. Some users' newsfeed become not working (it shows You're almost ready forever). I open Central administration > User profile service application > MySite , find out the problematic user and remove the string in "feed service provider" and "Personal site". After that, the user's mysite and newsfeed is rebuilt. However, everything is lost.

It is so random and I don't know why is that. Is there any suggestion on domain user name change?

Unable to edit site pages after upgrading to SharePoint 2013

After upgrading sharepoint 2010 to 2013. I ran the site collection upgrade to upgrade to 2013 mode. after this i can no longer edit site pages. Also on site pages some web parts are missing.

patching a server before adding to farm

I'm trying to connect a new server to the farm. 

I've installed SharePoint Enterprise SP1 with May CU slipstreamed. 

When I try to attach the server using the config wizard, it tells me loads of components are missing.

If I re-run the May CU it tells me no products are affected (i.e. its already installed). 

Installed updates on the server tells me K3115029 is installed (May CU)

What have I missed?

SP2013 : Drop down menus no longer working after upgrading .Net FrameWork 4.6.1

Hello everyone,

I encountered an issue last week, when opening a bug from my TFS2015 via Sharepoint interface, it was no longer possible to get a drop down list to work... not possible to upload documents nor save anything...

Some background:

Last week, my HDD ran full because of log files of my "SharePoint_Config" database so I decided to shrink the files, so far so Good but before getting there I rebooted my server and along with that of my server came a lot of Windows updates... including FW 4.6.1

After some pain I remembered that when installing a fresh instance of Sgharepoint  server 2013, FW 4.6.1 was not a good idea so I found the KB3102467, removed it, reboot and magic... internally it worked back as a charm !

Thing is... my Sharepoint is also used for my clients from the internet, and there... problem is still there ?

Any thought as why it works internally and not externally ?

Access denied for shared work-space in IE browser alone.

Hi, 

In my present scenario I've got a subsite that's being used a shared work-space , problem is whenever an user with read permission is used to access the site in IE browser i get access denied error but the same works in Mozilla or chrome. Why do I get a browser specific access error. I need to work on IE as only IE supports my other functionalities.

How does @ mention works in newsfeed in SP 2013

Does SP actually go to AD when you try to @ mention someone in newsfeed ?if yes, which attribute in AD is queried for that particular user ? and where it is configured ?

If someone can explain the whole @ mention functionality that will be great..

I have my own conclusions but want to confirm from technet community too.

I have created this PowerShell to create site collection for specific database within the web application and I had used successfully in other SharePoint 2013 environment.

Following is the PowerShell

However, It threw the following error while create a new site collection for specified database.  Error:New-SPSite : user cannot be found Troubleshooting steps followed:

  1.       After a some research from this blog and this blog, I got some inputs to resolve this by going  selecting the “Trusted Identify Provider” and followed the path Central Admin>> Application Management >>SharePoint – 80 (Web Application) >> Click on ribbon control “Authentication  Providers” >> Clicked onDefault >> In the section Edit Authentication   and Trusted Identified provider isGreyed Out (or disabled).

  2.        Tried to convert Windows to claims in the New-SPSite –OwnerAlias “i:0#.w|contoso\aroh” but it threw the same error using this link. 
Please let me know, where I am doing wrong?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sharepoint 2013 MySite - Error on Following Sites

I have an environment with multiple web application and a MySite Web Application. if users try to follow sites they get the error 'Sorry,we couldn't follow the site' and that 'The Social list does not exist in your personal site'.

When I check within the mysite of the user the 'Social List' is actually present there. Strangely the same users can follow sites from other web applications.

Can some provide me any Idea what can be causing this error?

MySite - Start a New Site - 'Site Creation Can't Continue'

We have mysite web application setup where user can create there mysites successfully. They can also create subsites within there personal site successfully. The only problem is that when they click on 'New Site' link on the 'followed site' page it opens the 'Start a new site' dialog and displays the below error

'Site creation can't continue because of a configuration issue with the parent site. Contact the site administrator for more information.'

Can someone provide me an idea what can be wrong with this?

Disable Check Out for PDFs Only

Hello,

Our issue resides in the check in/out function of Sharepoint. Our users use OneDrive for Business to sync Sharepoint libraries to their laptops and love it, except have a hard time remembering to check PDFs in when they upload via OneDrive for Business. Has anyone found a work around for this? We'd love to disable the versioning history for PDFs in general but need it for Word, Excel, etc. documents. Another great alternative I can think of (but am not sure exists) is if they could check the document in from their OneDrive for Business app/ synced folder and not have to navigate to Sharepoint Online every time they choose to upload a PDF this way. I should add: once the PDF is uploaded to SharePoint, 95% of the time they don't need to be edited (they're stored there more for holistic data store purposes). So we're looking for a scenario that our user saves the PDF to the synced SharePoint folder on their laptop, OneDrive for Business syncs it up into Sharepoint Online, and is now accessible to everyone.

When I check source code I see this:

Sharepoint as Files server - Navigation, Permission and restriction

I have implemented SharePoint 2013 as File server and have created Sub-sites for departments, Document libraries for various sections/work and folders inside them for files and other data.

My question is "Can the directory browsing permission be implemented like how we use in NTFS file system so that people can view the folder, but cannot open them".

Can we implement the same navigation method which we have in NTFS file server be implemented in SharePoint.

I currently use granular security to manually restrict users from accessing a different folder inside same document library by creating a group and then removing the group from other folders in document library and giving the folder permission for the group access to particular folder.

Is there any other way this can be implemented or can a developer get this working which will reduce the effort of the administrator to manually create those restrictions.
