Item Option (Parameter / Switch) in Backup-SPFarm & Restore SP-Farm for Multi-Tenant SharePoint 2013 Farm

I have a SharePoint 2013 Multi-Tenant Farm. Every tenant has a dedicated Content DB. I am trying to backup a particular Tenant using the following command, found in the below link. But, in that, I am not sure about the Item option.

Backup-SPFarm -Directory "c:\backups\alpha" -Item "HostingFarm_Content_Hosting" -BackupMethod Full

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn659286.aspx

Also, while restoring, I am not sure, what to provide for the Item parameter in the following command. Also, the article above doesn't mention, whether this restore will work like a DB restore, wherein, the restore can be done even w/o creating a DB or we need to create a tenant first to be able to restore by overwriting it. Can anyone please explain?

Restore-SPFarm -Directory "c:\backups\alpha" -Item "HostingFarm_Content_Hosting" -RestoreMethod Overwrite

New Library ID is now a large number? After (security) updates october/november 2015

After the last microsoft update of our sharepoint server this week, it seems the mechanism for library ID's has been changed?

We use the default Document ID's in our libraries. ("Site Prefix"-"Library ID"-"Document index")

Last week these looked like:

Document ID:PRD0248-2-2

However, after the software update, and after adding a new document library the ID's look like:

Document ID:PRD0248-512533114-1

Is this a bug? or did I do something wrong?

Does anyone have an idea?

Sharepoint Farm Performance Analysis Report

HI,

I am need of providing the Performance report of the sharepoint farm which is in production.

Could any one suggest the list of analysis we need to do in sharepoint farm.

Servers - APP Server (1),WFE(2),SQL(1),OWA(1)

When i am googling many suggested to check the iis recycling timing. Where to find this one or how to find ?

Another thing Distributed Cache - Do we need or no need. What are the sharepoint features depended on this Service ?

I have tried the below posts Powershell Script to get the unique visitors but it it not providing any output.

SPD Workflows hanging in 'Starting' stage, and Timer Service failing to recycle

I'm having problems with the workflows and timer service on my SharePoint farm. I have a number of custom (SPD) workflows. When I set them off in multiples (simultaneously), they hang for ages in a “Starting” stage (although setting them off individually seems to work).

At the same time, I am finding the following sptimerv4 error in my event logs relating to my Timer Service

“The timer service was not recycled because the following jobs were still running: Workflow”

I have a number of long running workflows (waiting for a pause time, waiting for an approval to complete, etc.) but it hasn’t been a problem before.

I have tried changing the time of the recycle schedule from 6am to 9pm, but it makes no difference.

Interestingly, it only happens on my two application servers; on my two WFE servers, the timer service recycles fine every day.

Can anyone think of any suggestions for fixing my issues?

SharePoint 2013: Versioning of files corrupted throughout the Farm.

We have a library where we have performed below activities:

- enable versioning in a document library using Major and minor Version
- create a new document (e.g. Word).
- make a few changes, save each time to create minor Versions
- promote the latest minor Version (e.g. 0.3) to a Major Version (0.3 --> 1.0)
- make a few more changes to create new minor Versions (e.g. 1.1 and 1.2)
- retract Version 1.0 --> will be reverted back to 0.3, nomenclature of 1.1 and 1.2 does not Change, ok. this is happening same in SP 2010 environment.
- promote 1.2 to Major Version:
--> SharePoint error, The URL "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" is invalid.  It may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder that is not in the current Web.
--> Version is increased to 2.0
--> old Version of the document cannot be opened any more.

I have also checked the same behavior in other SP2013 environments and the issue persists there too.

So, is this SP2013 product issue?

Or Somebody faces the same problem.

Database Backup\Restore Not working properly

Hi All,

In my present sharepoint farm what we do is  create a web app and restore a previously saved backup of a site to the new one, this is usually done using the powershell site collection back\restore method. And later on the new site is customized by the developers.

Recently i had to copy a site in my production environment to my development , and this time i took the database base backup of my production site from the DB server and restored it to the development instance . After that I attached this DB to my site on development farm. But when i load my dev site its not the exact site as my production site instead what i get is the template site which i used to create my production site earlier. My present production site is highly customized and totally different from the template. I am used performing database backup\restore's on my farms and no before I had come across such a case.

Also the new site that I get on my dev farm is in site collection locked state.

what can be the problem. I am supposed to get the exact copy of a site when i do a DB backup\restore but the restored site am getting is the template that i used to create the site that I took the backup from.

What are possible things to check - SP 2013 site fast after rebooting servers - it becomes very slow in a few minutes?

Hi there

What are possible things to check on SP 2013 site:
- After rebooting servers - it is fast (Loads in 1 second or so)
- After 10-15 minutes it becomes slow (Loads in 10-15 seconds)

Thanks a lot

SharePoint Services Stuck in Provisioning

I have a multi server SharePoint farm where any job is stuck .

If start a service instance it stucks in starting or stopping state,if i deploy a wsp it stucks in deploying forever. Similarly

I see that something is happening with timer jobs that do these tasks.

I tried to delete the cache, restart the timer services, force the service to stop. Nothing works.

How do i restore the services and start them properly.

I am unable to understand the reason for this. I have tried disabling and enabling Publishing feature with no luck.

SharePoint AD integration and risk involved

I once saw a lecture claiming that If we integrate SharePoint with AD account than there is a risk that user accounts will have some level of permissions to access file system of SharePoint server as well.

Now do we have POC or something to prove this technical comment?

On the other hand we know Forms authentication is possible with Sharepoint and AD accounts, which will leave a sign cookie at host and have other mechanism to secure.

Permissions with Active Directory groups

Hi everyone,

Currently we have a simple SharePoint deployment and the default web application is configured to use ADFS as an authentication provider. We also added LDAPCP from codeplex to resolve names.

But when we try to give access to the site with group (In people picker it said : (Role) testadfs, it's a security group in AD), users in that group keep getting access denied

On the ADFS box I have enabled verbose the group is in the claim as a role :

ClaimType http://schemas.microsoft.com/ws/2008/06/identity/claims/role Value BI_CUBE_EMPLOI_SALARIE ValueType http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema#string Issuer LOCAL AUTHORITY OriginalIssuer LOCAL AUTHORITY Value testadfs

I also see that it might be related to the group membership of the adfs service account still no luck

Do you have an idea to make it works ?

Thank you

Subsite Permission Needed For Popular Trend Report?

Hey SharePoint Fam,

I am trying to allow all site owners to view the Popularity Trends report for their sites.  I am noticing that users are getting access errors when trying to view the report without the "Create Subsites" permission.  I thought the "View Web Analytics Data" permission was all that would be needed.  I have confirmed users can view the report with no problem as long as Create Subsites permission is enabled.  Am I missing another feature/tweak someplace at all?  Really don't want users to have the ability to create new subsites at all, I know I can simply hide via css.

Thanks N Advance

User profiles not being deleted

In SP 2013 , running UP using regular Sync not AD Import. in Manage User Profiles , there are users that should not be there since they are in users OU subfolders which are unchecked in "Configure Syncronization Connections " inside the users OU . Not entirely sure how they got in UP but cannot remove them automatically. tried the below but did not work (run full sync couple of times also as well as MySite Cleanup Job)

$upa = Get-SPServiceApplication -id <Identity of User Profile Service Application>

Set-SPProfileServiceApplication -Identity $upa - PurgeNonImportedObjects $true

Querying the backend (backup Profile DB and restore on another machine-do not want to upset MS) find these users in the UserPRofileFull table but not in the DNLookup table

SELECT A.RecordID,A.NTName, A.bDeleted FROM [UserProfile_Full]  A --find the users which should not be there

select b.* from [DNLookup] B --find just the proper users not the ones that should not be there

Any idea how I can get rid of these?

Thank you

Migrate data from Sharepoint 2013 Enterprise to Sharepoint Foundation 2013

Greetings, We currently have a stand alone Sharepoint 2013 Enterprise install with separate SQL database. We need to migrate the information from this server to a stand alone Sharepoint 2013 Foundation with separate SQL database server.

Both these servers have the same patch level of 15.0.4779.1000 December 2015 CU.

I am trying to use the export-spweb, import-spweb powershell commands

I am able to export the information from the Enterprise server, however when trying to import I am receiving a number of errors, ie Import-SPWeb :

Could not find Feature DataConnectionLibrary. If I uninstall the feature, I get by the error however I continue to receive more unless I uninstall the features on the Enterprise Server. WorkflowServiceStore, SiteFeedController, IdentitySiteFeed are some of the feature errors I am presented with.

I understand that this is most likely because I am moving sites that have enterprise features over to a  server that no longer has them.

I am wondering if there is a cleaner way for me to migrate this information over to the SPF 2013 foundation without having to uninstall all the features on the Enterprise server.

Any information on how to do this would be greatly appreciated. If you require more information, please let me know.

Thanks

Kim

ADFS 3.0 / Sharepoint 2013 - Claims mapping with current windows accounts

Hi,

We are trying to setup ADFS 3.0 with Sharepoint however having very little success. The site has already been configured and is authenticated based on domain\username with no issues. When selecting the claims provider from the drop box on login we get "Let us know why you need access to this site". Based on research do we need to migrate from users / groups from windows to claims for authentication? If so, how do achieve this without breaking anything?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Mark

Redirecting a url to a SharePoint site

We have to redirect a URL http://ame.n-am.org.com to a SharePoint site collection http://<webapp>/sites/n-ame so that if anyone types in 'ame' on the browser, he/she is redirected to the SharePoint site.

How can we achieve it?

Unable to install AppFabric (Error: Custom file location is not accessible)

I am trying to do offline installation of Windows AppFabric on Windows Server 2012 using prerequisites installer as below but getting error.

Command

/AppFabric:C:\Users\myuser\Downloads\WindowsServerAppFabricSetup_x64

Error

Error: Custom file location is not accessible

I have confirmed that the file exists at the above location and that I am local administrator of that machine.

Here's some background on what I am doing. This machine doesn't have internet access as I tried to run prerequisites installer but it won't install.

So I downloaded all softwares required one by one and placed them in following location:

C:\Users\myuser\Downloads

After that I installed them by double clicking on the exes. Then I tried to install SharePoint and got error about AppFabric not installed or not properly not configured (something to that effect). Upon searching I came to know that you shouldn't install those softwares like that and instead should have used prerequisites installer to install them one by one as it also configures them.

Anyway I uninstalled AppFabric (which is another story as I had to try like 3, 4 times) and now I am trying to install it using prerequisites installer command line option but getting error.

Please help.
