Access to only one Application (ASPX Pages) page avoiding access to other Sharepoint provided Application pages (ASPX Pages) in Layout folder

Hi,

We have developed a highly secure application using SharePoint 2013.We want to restrict the access to specific set of users only to one application page which is a landing page for sharepoint application. All Application users should come to this application page to perform application operations.Any useful suggestion would be appreciated. I know that we can use deny user attribute in web.config file but in that case we need to add multiple enteries one for each page.

Person field (people picker) not copied between document libraries

Hello,

I have two document libraries on the same site 'Doc A' and 'Doc B'. Each library has a column named 'Employee Name' along with other columns. I have created a workflow on 'Doc A' which has a simple action of copy item and then a Stop workflow. when the workflow runs the name is selected from the person picker and the file is saved in 'Doc A' with the selected name. The workflow has completed without any errors and the file is copied to 'Doc B' with all data apart from the 'Employee Name'. I have tried using association columns but this doesn't work either.  The user has full access in both document libraries.

Thanks in advance

Duane

We cant find that workflow SharePoint 2013 Workflow Error after Restore

We recently restored a site collection, which has its own Content Database, after which point all SharePoint 2013 Workflow (SPD) instances reported:

All other items, 2010 Workflows, etc seem to be working and picking up where they left off. Is there additional configuration/administration that needs to be done after a restoration event for 2013 workflow?

We have conducted a PS restore using restore-spsite and a full/differential SQL restore of the content database in question.

The workflow instances are in the workflow history list as well.

Site listed is Central Admin. First error in log is:

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: The Web application at http://ringnettest.ringcontainer.com:55555 could not be found. Verify that you have typed the URL correctly. If the URL should be serving existing content, the system administrator may need to add a new request URL mapping to the intended application.

This is the page that I am on:http://ringnettest.ringcontainer.com:55555/security.aspx

Second is this:

Sharepoint 2013 permission flow from Root site to sub sites and unique permissions

Hi,

We are developing the Insurance application with Enterprise content management capability in SharePoint 2013. We have All the user groups who were provided the permissions to root site. Out of these user groups some of them belongs to specific departments and We have the site Heirarchy with multiple departments sites under root site.As per the application requirement the department users should be able to access to their department sites only.Since SharePoint permissions flow starts from root to sub site so in order to fulfil the requirement of restricting the permissions to specific departments we have to break the permissions flowing from root site to sub site and set the unique permissions to the sub sites for some of the users groups.

Now all these department users saves the documents into department specific document center so we have to mimic the department specific permission to respective document center. Some of the users can read the documents while other can write to it. so we have to mimic the same permissions to the document center.

This is a very complex permission management.I am looking for a better way.Does sharepoint provide better way to manage the permissions.

Restrict to single domain on trusted

I have been asked to restrict our SharePoint environment to those on the main (new) domain which everyone in the organisation has an account for. We have several domains that have been inherited from acquisitions which is slowly being moved to the single domain.

Here's a quick summary

The main domain (lets call it Master) has AD accounts for all users in the organisation. This is proven as they are logging into Outlook.

domain A (trusted)

domain B (trusted)

Currently, SharePoint allows domain A and domain B users access. What I am trying to achieve is that if users from A or B are trying to log in a prompt will appear stating to use the Master account details.

Can anyone assist?

Setup a new SharePoint 2013 Farm in a multi-farm environnement and sharing the SQL Server instance

Hello,

We want to setup a new SharePoint 2013 farm in a multi-farm area (we already have a SharePoint 2013 farm).

We want to share our SQL server instances between both farms (each farm will have their own Config DB or Content DB, of course).

We know that Microsoft recommends a dedicated SQL environment for setting up a new SharePoint farm, but we also know that sharing the same SQL server is technically possible (and, regarding our tests, it works).

But, our question is to know if it is supported by Microsoft, so if we have any problem on our farm(s) in the future, if this kind of configuration will not be rejected by Microsoft engineers ?
If there is any risks by doing that kind of topology/architecture ?

Thanks a lot for your support.

People Search needs to set UPA to "Use SharePoint Active Directory Import" - which means UPA will NOT sync - how to have both?

Hi all

I need to People Search and UPA Sync both must work.
1 - I follow this to set People Search - http://www.dotnetmafia.com/blogs/dotnettipoftheday/archive/2013/01/03/how-to-set-up-people-search-in-sharepoint-2013.aspx
2 - It asks me to set UPA Synchronization Settings to "Use SharePoint Active Directory Import"
3 - After that the UPA Sync does not work and shows me a message that I must use "SharePoint Profile Synchronization" instead of step 2 above.

How to have both? I am sure this should be a pretty common scenario.

Thanks so much.

Cannot install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on server 2012 R2. IIS configuration error

Hey Guys,

I'm experiencing a problem which seems to be common considering the number of posts I've found about it, but none of the provided solutions worked for me.

I'm simply trying to install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on a Windows Server Standard 2012 R2.

I've downloaded from the MS Volume Licensing website the "SharePoint Server 2013 with SP1" ISO file :  SW_DVD5_SharePoint_Server_2013w_SP1_64Bit_English_MLF_X19-36118. Sothis is the slipstreamed version which is supposed to bring compatibility with 2012 R2.

As I do not have direct access to the Internet I need to perform an offline installation. I also downloaded all prerequisities. When I run prerequisiteinstaller.exe with the necessary arguments, I get the following :

(Full log file is below)

I've tried the following :

- Restarted the server multiple times
- Manually removing/adding IIS role + restart
- Running the prerequisiteinstaller.exe from the DVD or from an extracted version
- Manually installing the prerequisities
- Installed .Net 3.5 as recommended here (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0b597d35-b02d-4236-894d-38efc0c7c6f6/sharepoint-2013-with-sp1-install-on-windows-server-2012-r2?forum=sharepointgeneral)

None of the worked. So I'm stuck and I must completed the installation of this before the end of the week for an important project !

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

this is the complete log file :

Hi there

Two User Profile Services exist - How to find out please- which one is running for Synchronization?

Thanks so much.

SHAREPOINT 2013: Pdf documents are not prompting for 'Read Only' or 'Edit' mode.

We have migrated the content from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013. After migration,

ISSUE#1

when user click on any pdf document It either gets open in browser or in Office Web App without prompting the user for 'Read Only' or cation.

While in SP2010, user gets option for 'Read Only' or 'Edit' mode and hence they are able to edit in local client application.

ISSUE#2

If user opens pdf document (having attahced pdf documents within) in Office web app, User can not open atatched docuemnt within it. Where as in local client, the attached pdf files are opening fine.

site collection level search configuration XML import error

I exported site collection level search configuration into an XML file from a production farm, and try to import it into a DEV farm. But the import failed and I get the following error.

The server was unable to process the request due to an internal error. For more information about the error, either turn on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults (either from ServiceBehaviorAttribute or from the <serviceDebug> configuration behavior) on the server in order to send the exception information back to the client, or turn on tracing as per the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK documentation and inspect the server trace logs.

I found the following link which deals with the same error

https://guidesharepoint.wordpress.com/2015/02/27/sharepoint-2013-search-import-configuration-error-the-server-was-unable-to-process-the-request-due-to-an-internal-error-for-more-information-about-the-error-either-turn-on-includeexceptiondetail/

I tried creating a new user profile service app and settings on security token service but still get the same error. My colleague tried on his brand new single server farm. He was able to import the same XML search settings into a the target site collection. I am not sure what could be the cause.

Thanks

Ming

The service '/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation

recently i have migrated sharepoint database server from A to B, everything goes well, but the managed services are gone, so I try to resolve with below solutions, but all failed.

 1).psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b

 2).$h = Get-SPServiceHostconfig

      $h.Provision()

      $services = Get-SPServiceApplication

      foreach ($service in $services) { $service.provision();write-host $service.name ;write-host $service.status}

there are lots of errors in ulsviewer as below:

1).Configuration: Local Login Provider is missing it's signing certificate.

2).An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: The requested service, 'http://localhost:32843/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc' could not be activated. See the server's diagnostic trace logs for more information..

Exception: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/SecurityTokenServiceApplication/securitytoken.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation.  The exception message is: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.. ---> System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.

SharePoint 2013: Adding users from trusted domains to permissions groups

Hey guys,

I've two domains with a two way transient trust configured between the two. Domain A and Domain B.

On Domain A - I have a SharePoint Farm. There's a site collection within one of the WebApp's upon this farm for which I want to give users from Domain B "contribute" access. I go into "site permissions", select my "contribute" group, select to add a new user... search the user from Domain B... it can't find them?

Any ideas?

Migrate Comments from Noteboard web part from SP 2010 to SP 2013

Hello,

Can I create two user profile service application and connect with single web application?

My intention of doing so is to get comments added by users from Noteboard web part of SharePoint 2010.
I have to migrate site from SP 2010 to SP 2013. I can migrate the content using Content DB migration. In case of comments which resides in social database of User Profile service application, I need to migrate User Profile Service Application too. In our case SP 2013 already has User Profile Service Application configured and it is in use for more than 6 months.

So I would like to know if comments will be visible if I will create another User Profile Service Application and attach/upgrade SP 2010 social and other required databases to it and add it to default proxy group of my web application.

Thank you.

Send file To between Web Applications gives an error

I try to copy a file between document libraries from one Web Application to Another. I choose Send To > Another location and paste the target library. After my confirmation I got an error:

"The target library or folder doesn't exist" (I don't know the exact English term).

What might be the problem? The target library indeed exists: I give it in form "http://site/Documents/" where Documents is the library name.
