Cannot find site lookup info for request Uri http://

Hi All,

We have recently added 2 new WEF to the farm, to handle the load. I have ran in to below issues only in one new server.

Blob Cache is enabled, however when the .mp4 video file is clicked, some how URL points to the Servers name rather than DNS and fails to load the video file. This happens only when the request goes to the newly added server and throws silver light error.

It was working fine, not sure what happened all of sudden logs shows below errors all over

Infra: SharePoint Server 2013 with SP1 (4 WFE's, 4 Apps and 2 DB servers with a windows failover)

I see 8317/8318/8319 error all over in all servers. I have not found any resolution for these either.

Any help would be appreciated

How can I recover my lost managed and crawled properties in my site collection Search Schema?

Symptoms

I'm pretty brand-new to SharePoint, on my first project, and having some major issues with our prototype. The end result is that I'm unable to access Managed or Crawled Properties through our site collection's Search Schema. It displays nothing but "An unknown error occurred."

It displays the same lack of data and error for the crawled properties. However, it does show that there are properties in the Categories link, but if I click a category, it returns nothing but the error again.

Perhaps most importantly, when I check the schema in the Search Service Application from Central Administration (or from our other site collection), everything shows up just fine!

Steps Leading to Problem

In attempting to add a term set as a search refiner, I read some articles and decided to try: enabling Cross-Site Collection Publishing for our site collection, setting our Document Set as a catalog, doing some other things (forgive the vagueness; I read through a lot of articles), and then somehow from there I was meant to be able to run a crawl and find the properties that the term group is applied to.

Perhaps it was the incremental crawling (I didn't know of any other way to crawl), but this didn't work either. So I decided to turn off Cross-Site Collection Publishing. SharePoint warned me that I might get some crazy errors...and it was right.

In Closing

Is there any way to get these search schema properties back? Possibly from Central Administration?

Thank you!

I'm just testing on SharePoint 2013 on a test machine.

When I created a subsite using "Site Settings" >"Site Content">subsite, got this error:

SharePoint returned the following error: Invalid URI: The URI is empty. Contact your system administrator for help in resolving this problem.

What needs to be done to get a sub site created?

Document ID Service not updating paths.

I moved files around a few weeks ago. The hyperlink for Document ID still redirects to the wrong location. I thought the search service updates this. I'm not sure what to look at to verify it's 'working' which it isn't....

Need explaination for termstore "Available for tagging"

I am working on SharePoint 2013 on-premise Term Store Management Tool and feel confusion about "Available for tagging". I have 3 questions:

1. We can choose check or uncheck "Available for tagging" for a termset or for each term. What's the different? I have tried setup a termset with "Available for tagging=False". However, the newly created terms are in default value which"Available for tagging=True". So the "Available for tagging" for a Termset is useless?

2. What exactly "Available for tagging" means? What exactly is "tagging" means in SharePoint? In a site's document library I add a managed metadata column bind to a termset that is "Available for tagging=False". It do nothing. I changed to "Available for tagging=True" and seems nothing change.

3. We have a TermSet "custombusinesunit" under the OOTB "People" Term group. The termset is binding to a user profile properties. What's the impact if I choose "Available for tagging=True/False"?

Thank you.

Hi,

Multiple Index server on SharePoint 2013?

Hi, I have 7 Web Applications and total size is 7 TB for all web app.

So to avoid performance issue and reduce crawl time for these web applications, I decided to create 2 index servers and 2 Search service application. First Search SA will associated with 3 web applications and Second Search SA will associated with remaining 4 web applications.

So my question is can I assign or run First Search SA crawl on first index server and can run Second Search SA crawl on second index server?

Please guide me that is this better approach and can I perform practically above approach.

On-premise site analytics - 3rd party tools

Running a large 2013 on-premise enterprise farm.  Completely disgusted with the pitiful gutting of the site and site collection analytics in this release.  We have significant content in blogs across the farm, for example, and now have no way easy to do page analytics because popularity trends are not available in the Posts list (if I am wrong there, please correct me).  Now I am spending time trying to aggregate usage by assembling pieces from audit logs and the site usage reports and it's just not anything close to what was in 2010.  Our users aren't heavy Search users, so the search reports aren't applicable.

So, can anyone recommend some solid 3rd party tools to do this?  I thought about Google Analytics, but I haven't seen any indication this can be used with authenticated users behind a firewall.

I know Microsoft is shoving Office365 down our throats ad naseum, but we have absolutely no intention of going to the cloud.  So please only recommend 3rd party tools, not a migration to O365.  Not worried about cost at this point.  We have been reporting page analytics from our product management blogs to our CEO and after just completing our 2013 migration a month ago, I am now embarrassed to have no metrics on individual blog pages.

Hi,

i am trying to migrate "MYSITE" from existing sharepoint 2013 farm to new SP 2013 Farm to get all the existing mysites for all users. As i know for others web application most likely we can just add the content database to new farm with newly created web application. But for my site, do i need to migrate 'Managed metadata' and 'User Profile service application' from existing farm to get it work?

Thanks

Hi,

Seems that the reports have gone a bit back words in SharePoint 2013.

Is there any not to expensive tools that can get it back to the SharePoint 2013 Web Analytics level?

Safari continuous login popup issue with SharePoint 2013 site

Hello,

We have a secure (https) SharePoint site which continuously prompt for login even if we provide correct credentials when we open the site in Safari. This site opens fine when we open in IE, Chrome, Firefox browsers.

The above behavior occurs when we use Safari browser on Windows desktop, iPad, iPhone. On the same server we have other SharePoint site which is not secure (http) which works fine on Safari browser. We also have ADFS configured for authentication.

Is there any specific setting that needs to be done for secured SharePoint sites?

Thank you.

Exporting a complete list of permissions in a Sharepoint Online site collection

We recently discovered that a Sharepoint site's permissions had been changed so that it was wide open to internal users.  I've since turned on logging.  I would like a way to see the permissions across all sites and libraries in the collection without having to view them manually.

Is there a script or tool I can use to export all of the permissions in a CSV or similar file?

Metadata Navigation and Library Column Filter Bug

$

To whom it may concern,

When document library metadata navigation is enabled and a user clicks an item in the metadata navigation part, the library updates to reflect the selected filter. Subsequent filtering actions performed on columns in the library do not filter the list further. For visuals refer to the thread below.

http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/ab5c7d15-14e7-470a-8120-71d049a104d3/list-metadata-navigation-and-columns-filters-not-working?forum=sharepointgeneral

My reason for re-posting this is 2 fold.

1. The answer to the thread above is not an answer, it is a work around.

2. Presenting the option for a user to continue filtering a view, but having that option do nothing is a bug. The option should be hidden, or it should perform the expect action.

Please either inform me of an expected timeframe for resolution, or point me to an exacting set of steps to take in order to escalate this issue to someone who will take action to fix it.

Thanks

Sharepoint 2013 Foundation - Cannot get listview search box to display

I have the option checked to "Display Search Box" in the app part properties.  The list view is using the Default style.  I have added an app part to a page with a view other than All Items.  However, I still have not had any luck in getting a search box to appear.  Is this because we're using Foundation or is there anything else to try?

Corrupt Central Administration Database

With migrating the salesforce SQL databases to another disk the Central Administration Database became corrupt. All other databases are running fine. All sites are available and running except Central Administration.

I tryed every possible option to repair the Central Administration Database. No luck. Repair is not an option. Restore from a backup is also not an option.Unfortunately I only have differential Sharepoint backups without the full backup.

What can I do to reinstall Central Administration without affecting the other site's.

Office Web Apps don't work on a particular Sharepoint 2013 Web Application (Migrated from Sharepoint 2010). Works on all the others.

Hi.

So, I have a Sharepoint 2013 farm. I have an Office Web Apps Server. I binded the Sharepoint farm to the Office web apps server. Office web apps work on all Sharepoint Web Applications without a problem except on one. This particular web application was migrated from Sharepoint 2010 and was upgraded. There are no errors whatsoever in the old application. It just acts like Office Web Apps are not installed. I tried rebinding Office Web Apps to the Sharepoint Server. I tried activating Office Web Apps on the site collections within the Web Application with Enable-SPFeature, but it says that the feature is already activated. I disabled the OpenInClient Feature. No luck.

Any Suggestions?

Hi All,

Cannot connect to SQL Server. XXXXXXX not found. Additional error information from SQL Server is included below.

Connection Timeout Expired.  The timeout period elapsed while attempting to consume the pre-login handshake acknowledgement.  This could be because the pre-login handshake failed or the server was unable to respond back in time.  This failure occured while attempting to connect to the Failover server.  The duration spent while attempting to connect to this server was - [Pre-Login] initialization=15868; handshake=6313;

Do we ever have the solution found for this issue?

I had read tons of articals related to this, cound not not find a answer.

It is intermitent, bad luck is some times it occures in the early morning, I get p1 ticket. And there is noting to find and fix. it will stary working automatic.

Any help is approcated.

Optimizing public facing website

$

We're trying to optimize a public facing website in a SharePoint 2013 farm. It has the latest CUs and Windows updates applied to the web front end. We feel the hardware is sized correctly, but are still seeing slow response times. Here's the behavior we're seeing:

1) When visiting a page for the first time, it takes longer. This makes sense as the page isn't cached into memory yet. Subsequent visits to the same page during the same session are much faster. However, if someone on a different computer that hasn't accessed that same page attempts to view it, it takes a long time again. It's almost like the server isn't providing the page which is already in memory to the second user. So is the caching occurring on a per device basis? If so,

2) When content writers edit or save a page, it's pretty slow. Takes about 8 seconds to enter edit mode for a page. It takes about 12 seconds to publish a page.

3) When creating a new publishing sub site, it takes almost a full 2 minutes.

I'm not certain, but it seems like the performance was better prior to applying 2015 patches this year.

Anyone out there have advice to improve the performance in these three areas?

Thanks for any info you can pass along.
