SharePoint 2013, ADFS and Token Decripting Certificate

$

Hello,

I'm working on the configuration of a SharePoint 2013 farm to enable authntication throught ADFS.

Configuration is done on ADFS side.

On SharePoint side :

  • I add the SPTrustedRootAuthority with the signing certificate and the sign in URL
  • I configure the web application to use the provider created
  • I add the token decrypting certificate to the server (LocalMachine\My)
  • I change configuration file for the web application adding this: <serviceCertificate>
    <certificateReference x509FindType="FindBySubjectName" findValue="name of the certificat" storeLocation="LocalMachine" storeName="My"/>
    </serviceCertificate>

(it's the same using FindByThumbprint)

When I ask for the site collection on web app, I'm getting an error :

Parser Error Message: ID1024: The configuration property value is not
valid.
Property name: 'serviceCertificate'
Error: 'ID1001: The certificate
does not have an associated private key.

I'm waiting for getting the certificate with the private key but I want to be sure of the process to handle this Token Decrypting Certificate ont SharePoint side(it's not well documented on the internet)

Thansk for your help

Configure People-Picker Auto Suggestion delay

Greetz!

Is there a way to configure the autosuggestion for the people pickers in SharePoint? I seem to recall reading about the possibility of causing the picker to start a query after, say, 5 letters, rather than after the default, which I think is 3).

Thanks!

2010 Custom Claims Provider No Longer Working for 2013

$

My company hired a Microsoft Consultant to code them a CCP (Custom Claims Provider) for SharePoint 2010. It worked flawlessly until our migration to 2013. Now the CCP no longer works properly. Upon doing some research, it appears that there is no longer an IClaimsPrincipal interface with .NET 4.5 (it existed in 3.5)

From what I have read, now it is ClaimsPrincipal (please correct me if I am wrong)

In 2010, the IClaimsPrincipal returned an object but we are unable to now get it to return an object in 2013.

Does anyone have any guidance or has coded a CCP for 2013 yet? We are totally lost here and without a working CCP for 2013...

Help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Report Viewer Web Part on SharePoint 2013

$

To summarize what I am trying to do, I first want to provide some information. We currently are using TFS 2013 and have Reporting Services setup for TFS. The TFS 2013 Deployment and Reporting Services (SQL 2012) are on separate servers. Reporting works fine and I can create custom reports from TFS data.

We also have TFS 2013 integrated with SharePoint 2013. TFS 2013 and SharePoint 2013 are on separate servers as well. The TFS integration with SharePoint works as expected. We are using the Release Dashboard to provide TFS data.

So in summary, TFS 2013, SharePoint 2013, and Reporting Services are all on separate servers.

My question:

I would like to be able to add the "Report Viewer Web Part" on certain SharePoint sites. Under the list of web parts I can add, the Report Viewer Web Part isn't listed in any category.

From looking around online, it seems I must have the "SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint" installed on the SharePoint servers.

1) Is installing the add in on the SharePoint servers the only way to make the report viewer web part available?

2) If there is another way to make the Report Viewer Web Part available, what is it?

3) Does any changes have to be made on the SQL/Reporting Server?

My current workaround is to add the "Page Viewer Web Part" and add the URL of the report file on the reporting server. This doesn't give me as much functionality.

Thanks for any help that can be provided!

Web Part Showing Top Searches

I have a client who has asked if there is a possibility of returning a web part containing top search queries. I have looked around in the Popular Items category of Web Parts, and I don't see anything OOB. Does anyone know if this is something that is generally available or would it require lots of programming?

Thanks

Copying a virtualised SharePoint Farm to an isolated lab

Our company has a production SharePoint 2013 Farm which is hosted on VMware. We would like to take copies of the VMs (including the DC) and restore these to an isolated lab for testing purposes. Is this a viable option? Does anyone have advice and experience to share on how this can be successfully achieved?

Kerberos setup using Apps

$

We are having issues with setting up SP2013 using a single content webapp with Kerberos authentication on it. This content webapp hosts all of our HNSC's, runs on port 443, has no host header and has a site on the root of it with Kerberos correctly configured.

Unfortunately, for Apps, the behaviour we are seeing is that the users in IE are prompted to login when accessing an App and can't successfully authenticate then login using any credentials, even the farm account. Somewhat gallingly, in Firefox it just works perfectly with no prompting, but IE is our primary browser to get it working in. I was working under the assumption that this is a trusted sites/Intranet zoning issue, but on closer inspection, it looks more like Firefox just doesn't use Kerberos Auth and therefore the prompting doesn't happen.

At the moment I'm considering two options:

1. Creating another web-app configured with a blank root site on port 443 with NTLM to host Apps as a quick fix, but then i'd need to get new IP addresses setup as otherwise port 80 would clash with the existing HNSC web app
2. Revert everything to use NTLM

It seems to say on Technet that Kerberos is supported for Apps as long as they can fall back to NTLM which I believe is already set for the main 443 content web-app in IIS. However, this does not appear to be happening here, as the fact that you can't then manually login when it prompts is different to what I'm reading. Has anyone seen anything similar and got past it?

Thanks,
Robin

Permissions are not working after migration from SharePoint 2010 to 2013

$

Hello,

I've migrated the SharePoint from 2010 to 2013. Users can login to the portal due to permissions to all authenticated users. However, unique permissions have been defined in libraries, folders, contents and sub-sites.

Those unique permissions are not working after migration to 2013. I can see those unique permissions are define but that's not working when user logs so he cannot view his/her content or sites.

I've re-add one of the user and re-defined his permission and started working. This solution won't help me because their are large amount of subsites and unique permissions have been defined on micro level.

Is there any better way to resolve this issue?

Thanks!

SharePoint 2013 migration from 2010

Hi Everyone,

From last 3 days i was brainstorming with one small issue. recently i migrate the sharepoint 2010 (FBA) application into sharepoint 2013 (FBA).

Everything is working properly, Except one thing.

In this application we have a Custom Login (Application Page) Page.

But i am not able to login via this custom login page, but i am able to login with default FBA login Page (_forms/default.aspx)

If i logged in with my custom login page I am getting an below error.

Please provide some plausible solution.

In event viewer it's Event ID is 8306

The server was unable to process the request due to an internal error.
For more information about the error, either turn on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults
(either from ServiceBehaviorAttribute or from the <serviceDebug> configuration behavior)
on the server in order to send the exception information back to the client, or turn on tracing as per the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK documentation and inspect the server trace logs.

Cannot add 1st MySite task from code. MySite task list does not appear to exist until visiting MySite.

We have a coded solution where we've created a webpart that shows tasks assigned to the user from three sources:
1. Exchange server
2. MySite's tasks list
3. All SharePoint sites in the collection

Upon first visit to this page this web part is blank and simply says 'Add a task'.  If the user HAS a MySite already set up, but HAS NOT visited that MySite and created a task, our code cannot add the task.  It seems that the MySite tasks list does not exist until the first time a user has visited their MySite page.

Is this correct?

How can this tasks list be forced to be created when the MySite is created so our webpart can allow the creation of a task from our code?

SharePoint Security patch made Workflow manager not functional.

$

Hi All,

We have a workflow manager that is hosted on SharePoint Application server. It was working till May 2015. There was a SharePoint security patch
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2965219 and we tested on dev and UAT servers. There was major change to the SharePoint functionality. We pushed this to production servers.

We noticed that after the security patch has potentially messed up workflow manager as users reported that their workflows have stopped working and workflow keep on showingSuspended status. However, we are not sure that security patch .  Managers and users, wanted to root cause why stopped suddenly.

We looked for this blog http://blogs.msdn.com/b/feseca/archive/2014/10/07/gathering-infomation-about-workflows-executed-by-workflow-manager.aspx and tried to execute the SQL commands for workflow database

SELECT InstanceId, ExecutionTime, LastModified, WorkflowName, WorkflowStatus, WorkflowStatusDetails FROM [WFInstanceManagementDB].[dbo].[Instances] with(nolock)

We checked all the workflow from year 2014 till May 2015 just before security patch. We then added where clause

SELECT InstanceId, ExecutionTime, LastModified, WorkflowName, WorkflowStatus, WorkflowStatusDetails FROM [WFInstanceManagementDB].[dbo].[Instances] with(nolock) Where WorkflowStatus ='suspended' but we did not get results.

We need to give a report to the management about this issue.

Q: Is they any other database that we could fetch from Workflow databases regarding workflow issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SharePoint 2013 Document Library alerts to Distribution List

Hi,

I would like to see if I can add library alert to a Distribution List. When I add the email address to the Users field, I got "Sorry, you are not allowed to share this with external users." error.

I followed the information here - http://davidmsterling.blogspot.com/2013/10/send-alert-or-email-to-group.html but I still got the same error message. I tried and I was able to add the "Universal Security Group" to the SP visitors group.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Edwin

SharePoint 2013 User Profile Synchronization Service is not starting: HostId is not registered

Hello,

I've setup new SharePoint 2013 whose architecture is following:

- 1 Server (for App/WFE) based on Windows Server 2012 R2

- 1 Server (for Database) based on SQL 2008 R2 with Windows Server 2008 R2

I created a new user profile service application with a service account e.g SP.userprofile. However, its synchronization service is not starting when i try using sp.farm acccount. It takes some time, and started both Forefront services and then stopped. When i checked the event viewer, it throws several errors of 'HostId is not registered'.

I've even tried sp.farm for creating user profile service application. But, it doesn't work. Read dozens of articles on web and it didn't help.

Is there anyone who could tell me the problem area specifically or list of configurations/permissions which i need to verify?

My both accounts i.e. sp.farm and sp.userprofile are in Administrators group of AD as well as local administrators and have permissions on database as well.

Thanks!

Problems with TFS integration after updating

$

Hello,

We use TFS 2012 (Update 4) integrated with Sharepoint 2013. This setup was working relatively fine when Sharepoint was on the pulled SP1. We recently updated to the later released SP1 followed by the May 2015 CU. After that, we are unable to create a new team project in TFS as it fails during the creation of the associated Sharepoint site.

The error log is here : http://pastebin.com/zXm7yLQS

Checking the IIS logs on the Sharepoint server showed that the 503 is occurring here:

2015-06-19 07:05:53 172.16.1.201 POST /_vti_bin/TeamFoundationIntegrationService.asmx - 42983 - 172.16.1.17 Team+Foundation+(devenv.exe,+11.0.61030.0,+Pro,+SKU:6) - 503 0 0 100060

That page (service) is up and running before and after this error occurs. When we try accessing that page on a browser, we can see a list of methods and none of them explode when we click on them.

We checked Sharepoint Central Administration for the following:

  1. TFS related features are active in the "Manage Web Application Features" for the Sharepoint site that we are using.
  2. TFS related solutions are deployed in "Manage Farm Solutions"

On the hope that the June CU might fix this issue, we tried to install that and the installer doesn't even open. After using the /log command line switch, we saw a cryptic

OPatchInstall: Thrown CDetectionExceptionCOM(2147500037)

There is very little to no information turning up on searches for that error.

The log is here : http://pastebin.com/sTCyeFb5

Any help is much appreciated. We really don't want to reinstall the Sharepoint server for this.

Missing Navigation option in Sites (Sharepoint Online)

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a site collection in Sharepoint Online.  When I try to set up a sub-site, Project, I'm not getting the Navigation option.

I am a site administrator, and also checked under Site Settings; Site collection features - but there is no"Office Sharepoint Server Publishing Infrastructure" feature as mentioned elsewhere (https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/c389f2b8-cd82-492f-a978-10845e9735bb/navigation-tab-missing-in-site-settings).

How can I add my sub-site to the Quick Launch?

Cheers

Mike
