Cannot add 1st MySite task from code. MySite task list does not appear to exist until visiting MySite.

We have a coded solution where we've created a webpart that shows tasks assigned to the user from three sources:
1. Exchange server
2. MySite's tasks list
3. All SharePoint sites in the collection

Upon first visit to this page this web part is blank and simply says 'Add a task'.  If the user HAS a MySite already set up, but HAS NOT visited that MySite and created a task, our code cannot add the task.  It seems that the MySite tasks list does not exist until the first time a user has visited their MySite page.

Is this correct?

How can this tasks list be forced to be created when the MySite is created so our webpart can allow the creation of a task from our code?

Failing timer job SharePoint Worker Process Group Update

Hi,

On the farm of my customer on my application servers I see the timer job "SharePoint Worker Process Group Update" stuck in a retry state. On my 4 front end servers they are succeeded on my 3 application server they are stuck on retry. I see eventlog criticals

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.SharePoint.Administration.SPUpdateWorkerProcessGroup (ID 9b4d28e2-5d0f-4748-a844-e19a07f425a6) threw an exception. More information is included below.

Does SharePoint 2013 use the wWWHomePage property in AD?

As I can't find any reference to this property in connection with SharePoint 2013, I'm guessing the answer to my question is 'No', but can anyone confirm if the wWWHomePage AD property still has any relationship with SharePoint in 2013? 

It is still set to the 2007 My Sites for all users of my 2013 Farm and I'm just wondering if I can happily ignore this property or if I need to somehow get it updated.  There no longer appears to be an option for users to 'remember this site' and populate the wWWHomePage property as it did in 2007 which makes me think it is now redundant for SharePoint 2013.

Has Exchange Auto Discovery and the msExchServiceEndPointURL property sort of replaced this?

Accidentally deleted my User Profile Sync service

I accidentally deleted my User Profile Sync service when performing a cleanup of old service applications. Now I cannot figure out how to recreate it. When I go to 'Services on server', it is no longer there. Does anyone know how I can add this back?

SP External Data Connectivity

We currently have SP hosted in Office365 but have our SQL servers on-prem.  I want to connect our SP site back to our SQL servers so I can get to the SQL tables and report data.

I'm struggling with this setup.  Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Hi All,
     Anytime i create a new Web app on the farm .
I would expect the site to be crawled ( content source of the web app).

But when i look at CA i get error:

The crawler could not get a response because the remote server does not support the functionality required to fulfill the request. This may be caused by the parameters passed in the address.

Any ideas what could be wrong or be looking at?

Many timer jobs are showing "N/A" for their last run

I have SharePoint enterprise server 2013 with SP1, and i check my timer jobs and many of them are showing "N/A" beside their last run time, as follow:-

now i run the following command :-

Start-SPAdminJob -verbose

and i got the following :-

change SharePoint User group Permission level

Hi,

I have a group "TestGroup" setup on a site collection with read Permissions and within in that site collection there are sub sites ,document libraries and files with unique permissions and this "TestGroup" is added with Read permission on some sites.

Our requirement is to update the "TestGroup"   permissions levels to FULL Control from Read where ever this group added on this site collection.

if any PowerShell script available please update.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Does SharePoint 2013 work with Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010?

Hi,

I am working on Windows 7 SP1 machine with IE 11 (and no info of 64 bit - assuming 32 bit). I have Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 installed with Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Support (2010) installed. I have removed SharePoint Designer 2013 as every time I tried to create a New word document on a document library it came up with a strange link and page was invalid. Now I get    

'New Document' requires a Microsoft SharePoint Foundation-compatible application and web browser... error.

How can I solve this? Can I download the Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Support (2013) anywhere and will this work for Office 2010?

I have created a new sharepoint 2013 project to add custom site columns by following these steps https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee231593.aspx

now i want to deploy the solution to another server. so i did the following steps:-

1. after successfully building the SP project inside VS 2012.

2. i copied the generated .wsp file found under the following location

C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\Visual Studio 2012\Projects\customFields\customFields\bin\Debug

then i run the following command to deploy the solution on the new server :-

stsadm.exe -o addsolution -filename C:\customFields.wsp

but i got the following error :-

Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
C:\customFields.wsp: The Solution installation failed.

can anyone adivce on this please ?

Current number of site collection is 0 in content database, How to fix this?

Can domain admin user cannot give replicate directory changes permission on configuration container?

Hi All,

I’m in the process of setting up address book for our division.

My requirement is to keep SharePoint sync with AD changes, i.e., any changes to the user properties like telephone number, department, title should reflect/show in SharePoint people search.

To achieve this I’m using SharePoint Active Directory Import option. I know for sure that the synchronization account SHOULD have the below permissions:

  1. Replicate Directory Changes permission on a domain
  2. Replicate Directory Changes permission on the cn=configuration container

My domain admin user says that he do not have permissions to give permissions on the Configuration container. Can anyone please let me know does the domain admin user cannot give this permission???? If not domain admin user then who can give this permissions.

Please help!

People Picket in FBA and Windows Authentication

My web application is extended with FBA authentication for External Users.  My requirement is in FBA authentication mode  people picker should showonly FBA Users.it should not show Windows Users. 

In windows Authentication it should show Windows AD Users +FBA users.  This is working fine.

I'm attempting to install SharePoint 2013 SP1 on Windows Server 2012 R2 using the AutoInstaller script and am getting the following error. I have tried to search for other solutions but am unable to find any helpful information. Anybody have any experience with this?

Search does not return User Profiles name?

Hello Community

    Using WS2012 and Sharepoint 2013 Server I created
My Site, UPS and a Search Center.

    When I created the User Profile the page comes
up with the heading "About <FirstName> <LastName>"
so I click "edit" in "edit your profile" and enter name in the
"Name" field and a blurb in the "About me" field and upload
a picture in the picture box below that at the bottom of the page
it says "We're almost ready!" and below that I click the Save
and Close button for the user profile page. 

    The problem is that after I put a link on the home page that
connects to the Search Center and enter <FirstName> <LastName>,
when the Search Center page appears, in the Search Center search when I click the
magnifying glass that initiates the search instead of returning the user profile for that name,
it returns a message stating:

    ...

    Nothing here matches your search

    ...
    ...

    The question is:

        a) How come the name I entered is not found for the user profile nor the
picture of the name in the user profile I created and returned to the display screen?

        b) How come at the bottom of the page where I entered the info into
the user profile and clicked "Save and Close" it still says "We're almost ready!"
if I want to enter more info or change the info entered (shouldn't go away after saving and closing)?

Can not remove a managed account from sharepoint CA, it shows that it is associated with deleted application pools

I want to remove a managed account from my managed accounts list. so i went to "CA >> Security >> Configure Managed Account", i click on "Delete":-

but i got the following exception :-

Sorry, something went wrong

the problem is that these application pools that are shown on the error message belongs to old managed services that were previously removed,, and this managed account i am trying to delete is not associated with any SharePoint application pool i checked this by going to (CA >> Security>>configure Service Accounts) . so can anyone adivce on this, as i am unable to un-associte the managed account from the above application pools, since these application pools no more exists, these application pools do not shown under (CA >> Security>>configure Service Accounts) ?

Hi,

I have a Web application in SharePoint 2013 which is HTTPS. I have powerpivot installed and it is working fine when I try to access the PowerPivot Gallery with the port number.

For e.g. https://servername:45176/sites/bi/pp2/Forms/Gallery.aspx. Everything is working fine.

But when I try to accesss the same https://servername/sites/bi/pp2/Forms/Gallery.aspx without port number I am getting the error.

Appreciate any help or pointer to fix the issue.

SharePoint with DPM

Hi, if I use DPM with SharePoint for item level restores can I also take SQL backups of the content databases? I assume that DPM and SQL would share the same backup chain and so this would be problematic. Is this true? How does DPM interact with the database files from a SQL perspective?

I want to have SQL backups of content databases so that I can restore them if we need to rebuild farm.

Could I have DPM protecting my AOAG instances but take SQL backups of a readonly secondary replica?

CreatePage.aspx behavior change

After applying maintenance this weekend, the CreatePage.aspx behavior has changed>
Original behavior was to substitute "-" for spaces in the URL, bow %20 is substituted.
Looking in F12 Debug, I see the code is in function UpdateUrl()

suggestUrlValue += '-';

is changed to

suggestUrlValue += encodeURIComponent(currentChar);

Can I revert this behavior?

%20 causes and error and the user has to manually overtype the dash.
