Remove orphaned Site Collection URLS with no refrence to Content Database

Hi

I was test migration from Sp2010 to SP2013, when I finished I removed the Content Database using Remove-SPContenetDatabase command. while I'm trying to back and restore a fresh copy of the Site collection I get the Site collection exits. try to force restore it throes an error  object reference not set to an instance of an object. When I try to remove the collection. it gives me an error

remove-spsite : object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I listed the urls using Get-SPSite, I get the list of the site collections with out reference of content Databse , it seems like orphaned Site Collection URLS . How to remove these orphaned Site Collection URLS entries

How can I create a new Host Url Site Collection in SharePoint 2013?

Hi,

This may sound really daft, but someone is trying to create a new Team Site Host Url Site Collection. We have the one Web Application athttp://main and all site collections sit underneath. When we try and create a new Site Collection we have URL set ashttp://main/sites.  Our new site should be http://newsite. I tried to remove root and sites from http://main managed paths and you can't do it.

Is it just me, but do you have to create a web application. Create Site collection for that web application and then move to underhttp://main like a SharePoint 2010 migration?

User Profile Service Creation and FIM Event ID error 3

I've been following Spence Harbar's Rational guide to UPS installs, but am unable to get past the Sync service stuck on starting. A few items of note:

1. This system had UPS provisioned and working correctly; at some point, UPS broke, so I removed and started to re-provision.

2.  I re-set the 2 FIM services to use Local Login.  Then, when I try to provision UPS, the login is never changed to the farm account.

3. If I manually change the FIM services to login with the farm account, I get Event ID 3, 6, 3, 26, 2, and 3:

For some reason, FIM never seems to use the farm account; I can see the corresponding event in SQL:
login failed for user ''. Reason: An attempt to login using SQL authentication failed. Server is configured for Windows authentication only. [CLIENT: <local machine>] Error 18456 State 58

Not sure what to do?

Sharepoint 2013 - Workflow Manager 1.0 - Certificate Thumbprint not found

Suddenly I cannot access the status page of Workflows in my SharePoint farm because there is error "Certificate requested with Thumbprint XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX not found in the certificate store.

I need to Uninstall Workflow manager, Reinstall and Redeploy my Workflows to the farm. is it the only solution to fix the issue. this will make already existing workflow break.

Web parts on Wiki Pages/SitePages disappear when editing

On site collections that have been migrated from 2010 to 2013, when we try to edit a web part on a site page (a wiki page content type in the Site Pages library), the web part will disappear from the page after you try to edit it. Other than recreating all the pages as Web Part Pages, is there a fix for this? I've seen others report on this issue since 2013, but no resolution.

I can write in an Excel Read Only file

Office 2013, SharePoint 2013 server standard on prem, Office Web Apps yes, Excel Services no

When I open an Excel file in the client application, even if I never clicked on the "Modify" button, I can write in the file. Is it a normal behavior? Why?

In Word and PowerPoint, I'm blocked for editing as long as I don't click the 'Modify' button. It makes more sense.

Bilingual site - selecting correct variation based on langue settings in browser

Hi,

I have a bilingual site English/French. However, the French site is not being selected if my browser is set to French. I think this might have to do with the fact that in the "Variation Labels" under the heading "Hierarchy is created" is set to "No" for French. (We had to copy over the hierarchy to the French site manually as the sharepoint jobs weren't doing that. Is there anything else I can do to make the site select French correctly when the default language is set to French in the browser?

Power Pivot & SSRS Installation in SharePoint 2013 Cost estimation based on Users

we are in process of installing power pivot and BI services in SharePoint 2013.

Does it have to be installed on SharePoint 2013 itself box where SharePoint 2013 is installed or it should be installed on separate SQL server or analysis server ?

we have already sql 2014 server enterprise license and SharePoint 2013 enterprise edition and we have around 850 users who uses SharePoint 2013 and 200 users will be using SharePoint 2013 BI features (Power Pivot, SSRS, Excel Services, Power View).

we are trying to save licensing cost of sql server so better to know it.

Suggest a best way to utilize sql resources to minimize sql licensing cost.

6398 ERRORS Cache cluster is down, restart the cache cluster and Retry. Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute.

Recently started getting these 6398 errors with SharePoint 2013 Single Farm and haven't been able to fix with any google results.  Everything seems to run fine.  They usually appear overnight.  Average 5-9 daily event logs.  See Errors below.

Get-CacheHostalways reports UP

Have already tried: 

-  Upgrading to AppFabric CU5

-  Restart-ServiceAppFabricCachingService

-  Clear Configuration Cache

- habaneroconsulting Distributed Cache Bug

- nobadthing Unexpected exception in feedcacheservice

- mmman itgroove fixing the appfabric cache cluster

- Microsoft unable to start appfabriccachingservice

...and many other readings.  (sorry I cant post links even though I verified my account 100 times)

Unable to Provision Search Service App and Proxy

Greetings,

I am in the process of provisioning enterprise search service application.  I am doing this via PowerShell script.  I am confident in the PowerShell script.  I receive an exception during the call to New-EnterpriseSearchServiceApplication.  I receive the following exception:

Users in AD group have no access to site

Greetz!

I have a web app that users aren't able to access unless added directly to a SharePoint Group.

My users belong to multiple groups. I have a SharePoint group that has the same name as the AD group.

My QA farm is setup identically to my production farm. Access is not an issue on the QA farm.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this or what may be causing this to happen?

MIssing Manage Powerpivot Data Refresh in context menu.

SP 2013 Enterprise, July 2014 CU, Site collection has many sites with their own content databases.  Powerpivot for Excel is deployed on SQL Server 2012 SP2 with a POWERPIVOT AS instance.  One one site, Manage Powerpivot Data Refresh exists in the context menu for an Excel workbook.  Processing and rendering in browser works fine. But in all other sites in the Collection, the Manage PowerPivot Data Refresh is missing from the context menu within their individual powerpivot sites.  Enterprise features are enabled on each site, and Excel and PowerPivot services are enabled on the farm. I notice a health warning that may be related, complaining about missing web parts like Microsoft.AnalysisServices.SPAddin.DataRefreshFailureWebPart and other related web parts.

It goes on much longer, but seems to repeat.  There are so many components to the PowerPivot setup that I need more guidance on exactly what is missing and how to install it.

configure Office Web Apps 2013 using F5 and https

Hi,

i was able to configure office web apps for multiple server using windows NLB. Now we are trying to use F5 with OWA. As this is the Test farm, we are not using certificate for domain. now question is do i need to use domain certificate for ssl offload. i am using the following command but problem is i cannot access the xml file once i create. is there anyone who has experience to configure OWA with F5 load balancing?

New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalUrl "https://office1.domain.com" -ExternalUrl "https://office.domain.com" -SSLOffloaded–EditingEnabled

Missing Site Templates on upgrade process

Hi,

i am upgrading from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013 using database attached process. when i run upgrade on SharePoint 2013 getting following error. please tell how do i fix it.

The following sites are using templates that are not yet supported after upgrade:
•  http://myweb.mycompany.com/sites/marketing - #0

Sites that rely on these templates cannot be upgraded at this time, preventing upgrade of this site collection.

Form based authentication for site collection

I have a web application on port 80. Root site collection uses windows authentication. I have two other site collection under port 80. These two site collections should use separate form based authentications ? How can I achieve this ?

Login prompts after Kerberos configuration

Hello all,

I've configured Kerberos authentication for a Web Application I created ( For BI purposes ), but since that, I can no longer access my site collection, it keeps prompting for credentials :( !!! I've done everything as I should : Created the DNS record, registered all my SPNs, enabled the "Trust for delegation" on all my objects, changed the authentication provider !

One thing to mention is that my web application is not on the 80 port, I put it on the 100 port.

Anyone with an idea why this is not working as it should be ?

How do I - in the easiest and best - method "move" this to the next pre-production environment?

Do I just make a SQL backup/export of the 3 DB's (Social, Sync and Profile DB's) and import these into the next environment?

Audience resolves to AD Name then Changes to AD Path

Greetz!

I have set an audience on an element in the quick launch to an AD group. It resolves correctly to the group, but when I go back into it (since it doesn't appear to be working) I see that the AD Name has been changed to the path to the OU. Why is this happening?

Forefront Identity Manager Synchronization Service error

I recently installed a large number of patches, and now am getting errors from the FIM sync service on the indexing server. The service shows as "starting" in the services applet, and the system event log shows pairs of messages:

7024 from service control manager with service specific error %%2148732962

10010 from DCOM  - server failed to register

There is also an app log event pair at the same time:

6398 from SharePoint Foundation that the execute method threw an exception

6324 from FIMSynchronization service which includes a number of "BAIL" statements

Any ideas what I can check?

Site and Document library permissions Issue

I want to give everyone read access to a site and then specific users contribute permission to a library.  The issue is users with contribute on the library cannot edit items unless they have contribute access at the site level.  I'm pretty sure you should be able to set up with read at the site and contribute on the library, so I'm stumped as to why this is not working.  Here's the details of my steps:

At the site level, I give an AD Account "JenA" read access.  I go to the doc library settings, stop inheriting permissions and give "JenA" full control access to the doc library.  "Jen A" tries to edit a document's properties and gets a "failed to communicate with Server" error.

At the site level, I give "JenA" full control access.  She tries again to edit a document's properties and it works fine.  Does anyone know how to fix this so she has only read access at the site level?  I don't want to have to assign contribute access at the site for the various groups that have contribute access to specific lists.
