Sharepoint 2013 CU upgrade - Wizard error

I have installed Feb 2014 CU on my server successfully and running wizard or psconfig upgrade to complete the upgrade throws me with below error

Using psconfig force and clearing cache and re-running wizard help me much. Please help to me to resolve this error.

Error:

Failed to initiate the upgrade sequence.

sharepoint excel data not refreshed

Hi All,

I have SharePoint foundation 2010, add one excel document after that trying to open that excel document it is showing error message.

Error message:-

Unable to referesh data for a data connection in the workbook.

try again or contact your sharepoint adminstator. the following connection failed to referesh.

powerpivot data.

-> click on OK it is opened after that go to menu Data refresh selected connection. It is open error Message.

It is showing error message

The current selection is not within a refreshable region of the workbook.

Select a refreshable region,such as a pivot Table, before clicking on the refersh selected connection Buttion.

How to fix this issue. Please let me know how to resolve this.

How to migrate data of library level columns in the new SharePoint 2013 Farm

Hello,

I've a SharePoint 2010 Farm where I've to copy the content (different lists/libraries/sub-sites) to SharePoint 2013. In 2013, I have content types in the hub. During migration, I want to apply new Enterprise level Content types in those 2010 farm's libraries. Those libraries have default "Document" content type with additional library level columns.

If I migrate these libraries in the new farm and apply the new Content Type in them, what will happen to those library level columns? I understand that data will be there since the Document will be the 2nd content type, but when users View/Edit properties of the document, they won't see those columns. What's the best way of doing this migration?

NT Authority\Authenticated Users being added to SharePoint groups if a space character is entered in the list of users to add

When adding users to a SharePoint group, I've found that sometimes, if a space character is typed in the field where user or group names are entered, NT Authority\Authenticated Users is added to the SharePoint group in addition to the intended users/groups.

This seems to happen in a couple different circumstances:

  1. A space character is the only character typed in the field.
  2. A space character is typed after the last name is entered.

Has anyone else seen this?  Is this intended behavior?  It's very easy to accidentally do this, and if the group has a lot of members, it's easy to miss when it happens.

Other pertinent info:

  • SharePoint 2013 Enterprise, SP1
  • Occurs throughout the production farm and on my dev install

I switched to excel services from office web app, and i want to revert my changes. remove-spwopisupressionSetting doesnt work!

I originally had excel web app working on prem, but since it didn't support powerview I tried my luck with excel services.

I switched to excel services by using the new-SPWOPISuppressionSetting cmdlet.

I figured to return to excel web app, I would just use the remove-SPWOPISupressionSetting cmdlet, but I removed the suppression setting and even reboot the server and it's still using excel services!

What do I have to do at this point, reinstall office web app completely? Its still working for word and powerpoint, why didn't it take back over for excel? Any tips?

With Out AD Integration - Can I Define a User's Defalt SharePoint Page?

I am working with a customer who as several hundred users and believe it or not, they do not have Active Directory. They are using a hosted SharePoint 2013 multi-tenant solution and I am trying to figure out how to define a default SharePoint home page per user group. Can anyone help me out? As a test bed, I'm using my Office 365 SharePoint deployment.

LDAP users

SharePoint Foundation 2013 box connected to LDAP using FBA/ Claims. Most of the time, I can see LDAP users in PeoplePicker. But every now and then, they simply disappear.  And then reappear after some time.
I have this error message in the event viewer:
An exception occurred when trying to issue security token: The security token username and password could not be validated..
But I don't know for sure that they are related.

How do I troubleshoot this? I have the LDAP connection string and userId and password.

SocketException error when testing SharePoint 2013 with Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

Environment:

SharePoint 2013 environment with a single application server, 8 WFEs, and a single dedicated SQL Server 2014.

Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 with a Test Controller and 10 Test Agents

Testing consisting of Browse, Open, Search, and Upload tests.

Environment was working correctly and all tests were executing without errors. Had to reboot all of the servers in the environment and when they came back up the Open test is now generating SocketException errors (An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host) intermittently. These errors then seem to be causing timeout errors. Issue seems to be a setting that changed when the servers were rebooted. Event logs and SharePoint logs on the servers do not give any information on what is causing these errors. Internet searches for the SocketException error don't give valid solutions to the specific problem.

All servers are on a single subnet and VLAN

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated since this problem is driving me crazy. :-)

How to handle list with way more than 5,000 items?

Hello SharePoint Fam,

I have a library that will be rather large with nothing but pdf files that are around 30-80KB per file.  Currently I am at around 40k files in the library and of course I have the error message about 5k list view threshold and was wanting to get advice on what I should do, I am not using no extra fields at all just a name/title field.  There will be around 100-150k files per year in the library

Coauthoring, syncing and a nihilistic world

After a few months of watching sync failing, changes get lost, and overwritten documents pile up when our clients attempt to do anything remotely resembling a complex authoring workflow (read: more than one person updating a document) we're starting to wonder, does anyone else NOT have headaches with syncing and coauthoring on SP?

What we've seen the workflow generally devolve to something resembling the following:

  1. Create a shared document, first draft.
  2. Ask second person to add X,Y,Z to it.
  3. Sync'd folders break down and person A doesn't see the new document
  4. Person B downloads document, mails to a mac user for changes.
  5. Workflow continues via emailed documents until someone pushes a final version up there.
  6. Complaining saying that coauthoring just works on google docs and asking why are we using that?

Clearly sync/coauthoring is an ongoing problem given the number of onedrive/sync related patches that have been released this year alone.

Yes, I know folks heavily invested in SP will point out the wonderful world of arbitrarily complex business document flow, document checkin/checkout but honestly do your end users actually do that voluntarily?

New farm is up and running on "old" contentDB's  - problem is that I've build the new farm with the right new service accounts - so I need to replace and take over the rights permissions

replace/change the contoso\spappaccount   - to the new  contoso\NewSpAppAccount 

how can I accomplish that?

Additional content database for a site collection

I am searching for an article that will help me figure how or which way will be best for me to add an additional content database for a site collection. And hope the answer will help me resolve the following warning that I am seeing from my SharePoint Farm 2013 "The following content databases have grown larger than 100 GB.  Large content databases can be difficult to backup and restore.  They are also more likely to cause application hangs when operations that affect entire databases are performed." Can someone provide me a suggestion or help with that please? Thank you

Why do my Visitors users get Access Denied in my New Forms - Mobile Devices Only

The issue I have is that I have a SP2013 Site with a group Visitors.

the default Site Permissions have been set to Read.

I then created a SharePoint List with a People Picker.

I broke the Security inheritance and gave the Visitors group Contribute Permissions

In Browser mode, they can access the site, open all links and even add content to list.

When I do the same actions on a mobile device, All the visitors get Access Denied when clicking on the Add Content Link.

The Link I make available is "https://myweb/sites/site/Lists/mylist/NewForm.aspx"

I have found some suggestions about unplublished content, but this does not explain why the user can perform the required actions on a desktop, but not on a mobile device using the same link

HI

1) i created a publishing site using publishing template in sharepoint 2010

2) in sharepoint 2013 server : i upgraded content database 

3) after that when i run site collection health check i found some issues for customized files and found error when test site

how to solve this issue and proceed to next step  upgrade site collection ? or can i skip these errors and go for site coll upgrade ?

I have One Home Portal and one mysite portal in my SharePoint 2013 environment.

How can i configure Enterprise Search Center for home portal and for my site portal?

both portals are different web applications so do i need to create two different enterprise search center site collection under each ones or just one site collection for enterprise search center under home portal and use it for my site portal too for search functionality?

Date Modified is not populated

I have a document library with document sets in it.  Inside each document set I have individual documents.  When I check out a document, edit it and then check it back in, the Modified By field correctly shows that the document was modified by me, but the Date Modified field is blank.  Any idea why?  It's blank both at the document set level and at the level of that individual document.

here in sp 2013 i upgraded sp 2010 BI site and when i open dashboard pages they not display the pointers.

and when i open dashboard designer i was unable to connect Analysis server 2008 R2 where data source exists

How can I do this?
