Sharepoint_Config mdb (not ldf) file growing

$

Hi,

My Sharepoint_Config mdb (not the ldf log file) keeps growing a couple of GBs each week. Transaction log backups are done every hour so the ldf file is not growing. SharePoint_Config is in full recovery mode. The cause may be because I am doing a PowerShell full farm backup once a day.

Has anyone encountered this before, and what is your recommendation? What is the best way to keep the mdb file small or shrink the mdb file?

Thank you.

PowerPivot: MidTier process account should have 'Full Read' permission on all associated SPWebApplications.

I have read on numerous pages about this error that it comes from the service account of the application pool this runs in not having "Full Read" permissions on one or more web applications.

Well, I don't use a different account for it, I use my farm service account for ALL services, and I am very positive it has FULL CONTROL + FULL READ for ALL of the web applications.

So why would I still be getting this error?

Sharepoint 2013 Table of Contents - webpart. Display Column field is not visible

Sharepoint 2013 Table of Contents - webpart. Display Column field is not visible.

In share point 2010 there was field "Display Columns" to handle the number of columns in Table of Contents webpart.

I cannot see this field in our new Sharepoint 2013 installation!!

Is it some kind of setup issue? or is it an obsolete feature in 2013? :(

Webpart Title and Border Does not Work

$

The Chrome type "title and border" does not display the title or border on webparts. The problem is trivially reproduced:

1. Create a new blank site.

2. Add a webpart to it. Not important which one.

3. Change the chrome to title and border.

4. Apply the changes and save.

5. Note the absence of title or border.

Try changing the chrome type to either title or border and they work individually but together they do nothing. I have seen others report this issue of various forums but never a resolution. This worked in 2010 and does not work in 2013. I am using IE 11 but it also didn't work with older versions of IE.

SharePoint 2013: Unable to restore from production to test environment.

I am trying to restore a sharepoint site collection from production to test environment.

Environment:

  • Production : Windows 2008 R2 64 Enterprise - MSSQL 2008 R2 SP2 12 GB - 10.5 GB allocated to MSSQL
  • Test : Windows 2008 R2 64 Enterprise - MSSQL 2008 R2 SP2 8 GB - 6.5 GB allocated to MSSQL

On both servers, the databases are on an instance (MSSLQ\SPInst).

Back up/Restore method:

  • Backup: Backup-SPSite prodURL -Path prod.bak -useSQLSnapshot (PROD file size 12 GB, Test file size 7GB)
  • Restore: Restore-SPSite testURL -Path prod.bak -Force

Restoring production backup to test environment failed with this error message:

"There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query."

I restarted the MSSQL server and redo the restore and failed again with a different error message

"The instance of the SQL Server Database Engine cannot obtain a LOCK resource at this time. Rerun your statement when there are fewer active users. Ask the database administrator to check the lock and memory configuration for this instance, or to check for long-running transactions."

I then tried to restore the last Test backup to test environment and encountered the same issue.  At this moment, I am considering increasing the mssql memory to 12 GB, but not sure this will address the issue.  (side note: adding memory involves a lot of paper pushing and must be justified that adding memory will resolve the issue).

Thanks.

This page can't be displayed error when creating Site Collection on SharePoint 2013

Hi everyone

I have a problem creating new site collections on SharePoint 2013 Foundation. I can create a subsite from the Central Administration site but when I create a new web application and when I try to create a site collection from that web application I always get the error "This page can't be displayed" error. When I create a site collection, everything goes normaly but when I try open the new page the error pops up. I am not sure what the problem is. Is it the SharePoint, the IIS, the Windows Server or something else. I hope that someone can help me with this issue.

I appreciate every help.

Unable to connect to site collection (website)

Hi

I have just set up Sharepoint Foundation 2013 on a Windows 2012 R2 domain controller.

I have created a site collection and have assigned it a name but am unable to connect to it.

I did this years ago on a 2003 server but cannot remember what I did (and it might not be relevant now...)

After creating the site collection this page is displayed:

Top level site successfully created

http://img537.imageshack.us/img537/9210/e09e0a.jpg

But when I click that link this is displayed:

This page can't be displayed

http://img539.imageshack.us/img539/5084/a7ea1d.jpg

Have I missed a step when doing this?

Just one website (site collection) will be created and used.

Can someone help me with this, please?

Thanks

Popularity trends displaying 0 for some pages only

$

Hi, we are using Sharepoint 2013. When using popularity trends on pages within the site, only about half display data. The other half just have all zeros (we know that these pages have definitely been viewed by people throughout the business). I have trawled forums but can only see issues where all pages are showing zero's, not just some.

If I log onto the SQL database and look in the AnalyticsReportingStoreDB, and specifically the table AnalyticsItemData it only shows the ItemUri for the pages that the popularity trends are working for. The pages which the popularity trends aren't working for are not displayed in this table so i guess this could be the issue? If so, i'm a bit stuck as to why all the pages within the site aren't being stored in this database table.

Has anyone come across this issue or have any suggestions as to what the fix may be?

Thanks!

Sharepoint 2013 Community Discussion list recent, refresh clicks are not working for anonymous users

We have created community site with anonymous access for entire web site and for discussion list we gave view item permission. So for anonymous user, when page load its showing all the disucssion. When we try to hit the recent or refresh click it shows blank. After investigating, we found that request is hitting with an authentication prompt for inplview.aspx page. So we tried disabling the ViewFormPagesLockDown feature and it started working. This feature will give permission to all the application pages and its not good to disable.

So please let me know which will be best method to view and refresh the discussion list in community site for anonymous users.

Unable to access SP App from host machine. Page not found

I have created a virtual machine and configured SharePoint environment for the trail period on my windows 7 machine. I am able to do the Remote desktop connection from my host machine and access my SharePoint sites from the host machine browsers.

But when I try to access the apps created for SharePoint, it shows the page cannot be found. I am able to access the same App for the same user in the SharePoint server but not its host machine.

I have added this App domain to the intranet zone of host machine and to the server.

Could you pls suggest me what I am missing?

I am trying to configure Syncronization Connections, when I click on Create New Connection I receive an error message:

Cannot navigate to the requested page because User Profile Synchronization service is not running. Please start the User PRofile Syncornization service before creating a connection.

However, when I look at Services on Server I see that both the User Profile Service and the User Profile Synchronization Service are both started.

I am not sure where to start troubleshooting this one.

Thanks for the help.

Search is not finding keywords in picture library

$

I just setup a SharePoint 2013 server and created a picture library.

I posted a test picture and entered several words in the keyword box. This field is there by default.

When I search for the keywords, I do not receive any results. If I search for the title, I do receive the picture in the results.

What do I need to do to enable the search to find the keywords? I would think it would work by default. Otherwise, what is the point of having keywords?

Thanks for your help.

Search Service Hung. Cannot stop it. Options?

$

I need help to regain control of my Search Service, which is hung and still running after 100 hours + in the "Starting State".

I know what I did wrong: I set the Content Search to include "sps3:" instead of "sps3://mysites.company.com".  Fixing this is not my problem.  UPS is not my problem.

My problem is

1) I cannot change "sps3:" to "sps3://mysites.company.com" until Search is in an idle state.

2) However, Search cannot reach an Idle State while looking for "sps3:".

I tried several tricks, but none worked:

-- Tried to change "sps3:" to "sps3://mysites.company.com". Got error message: cannot change unless Search is in Idle State.

-- Stopped both WFEs and the "SharePoint Server Search 15" and "SharePoint Search Host Controller" services on the one APP Server; but no improvement.

-- Deleted the "Search Service Application" in CA, but that threw a timeout error.

-- Tried shutting all servers down and rebooting only the one APP Server; Search Service was still running unimpeded.

Any suggestions out there, besides a rollback to a server backup of the farm?

App Store Setup

I may be glossing these forums over, and most of MSDN or TechNet for that matter, but I can not for the life of me find any reasoning as to why the SharePoint App Store is configured the way it is.

Why is this not a just a Site Collection Feature? Can someone explain why Microsoft chose for it is a requirement to set the App Store up on a separate domain?

Thank you in advance,
Matthew

I have tried using IE and downloading the Microsoft Store Certificates to the local machine and then adding them to the Trusted Authorties area, but it has not fixed the problem.

Any ideas what is going wrong?

Is it Possible to Have Additional Web Applications as SUB-URLS from Default?

Hello,

I have multiple sharepoint web applications with different ports.

I want to have each of these applications appear as a sub-URL of the default web application on port 80.

For example I have the default application at http://blah999.net  for green groceries and I have a second applicationhttp://blah999.net:12345   that contains only information about apples.

I want http://blah999.net:12345 to appear athttp://blah999.net/apples .

Can this be accomplished via alternate access mappings?

If is there any other way to do this?

Is it possible?

Thanks
