ReInstall .NetFrameWork on MOSS 2007

Dear Friends

I have Moss 2007 set up in Windows server 2003 R2 sever with .net 3.5 installed in it.

Due to some Build Issues in Some Visual Studio Solution ,we  have to reinstall .Net 3.5 framework.

But my concern  is the effect of reinstallation of .netframework 3.5 on Moss 2007.

1) Will my Moss 2007 set up work as usual or not ?

2) if any setup issues occur in between how should i roll back to Previous set up ?

require your inputs and advice.

Thanks and regards

R Prashanth Kumar

Editing calculated field in datasheet view.

Good day.

I have Sharepoint 2007 installed.

In list i have calculated column. When i switch to datasheet view, try to edit it, press cancel and escape(canceling change of formula), then value in calculated field becomes "null". "Null" stays untill i refresh page, after refresh values are back.

This issue occurs for users which have Office 2007 and Office 2010 installed, but not for Office 2003, so it might be Office problem.

Users told me that this error stated to occur some time before (1 - 3 months), before that it was fine.

What can be a cause of the problem?

Best regards, Chernobrivets

I am running windows server 2008 R2, with sharepoint foundations 2010.  When I go to perform a backup, if I already manually deleted the running jobs, the backup will work, but it just freezes, it doesn't actually complete, just starts.

Take ownership of helpdesk (Applications Template) work order

$

We have  a sharepoitn system which is using the helpdesk workorder template. It all works great, but for the following scenario.

A user emails us directly, we then create a work order FOR them, logging in under one of our helpdesk accounts. The user cannot then add comments to the workorder as they did not create it.

I am wondering how you would go about changing the ownership? I have tried giving them permissions on the site but they still cannot edit. And obviously, that is not ideal as then they could edit any one elses work orders as well.

Is there any way to change the owner, the "created by" tag seems to indicate?

thanks.

Timer jobs not executing in one server

Hi ,

We are having an issue in one of our sharepoint server -

Timer service hung and was not able to restart.

Event log says that the service account lost the log in as service permission

it has been provided to the account and the timer service started successfully

after which we found Central admin service is in "Stopping" status in the same server (CA->operations->services on server).

used stsadm -o privisionservice... command to stop and start the service

CA service stopped and started successfully

server rebooted after the service started

stsadm -o execadmsvcjobs to start the pending timer jobs but we did not able to start the timer jobs in this server.

solutions which we deploy globally on the farm is not hitting this server. except this server the solutions deployed successfully in all other servers.

Timer jobs working fine in all the other servers except this one.

Any clue / help / guidance on this issue .

Thanks

Microsoft please forge the way with Recycle Bin logic and Save as...

$

Save As... is actually 2 operations but for some reason is treated as only one.

1) Delete the current file

2) Save the new file with the same name

Why is that Delete operation so overlooked?  It should not differ from any other delete.

It should Delete the file as if it had been Deleted any other way, which with our Governance plan would place that file in the Recycle Bin.   A deleted file is a deleted file.

If versioning is turned off, is there any SharePoint related fix to having Users come to me with, "I did Save As... by mistake and can't find my original file." ?

All documents open as Read Only in Office 2010 from SharePoint 2007

I have recently installed Office 2010 and now when I select "Edit in Microsoft Word" from a SharePoint document library, the document will only open as Read Only.  I am running SharePoint 2007 SP1, I have admin rights to the workstation, server, sharepoint list and document.

I have tried the registry entry " OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing = 1 " but that has made no difference.  I have also run webfldrs.msi with no effect.  The website is a trusted site and I have switched off all of the protected view options.

Any help welcome!

Why does Windows sometimes prompt me for authentication login and password when opening SharePoint 2007 doc library .doc files?

$

Platform – XP on desktop, Office 2010 installed, IE 7

Server – SharePoint 2007, service pack 1

In _some_ SharePoint Doc libraries, attempting to access .doc or .xls documents results in document being opened. However, in _other_ libraries (same site), the user is prompted for their login and password.

In the original report, a second issue is that when the user entered his login and password, it does not appear to be accepted - he gets prompted several times, then gets a page indicating that he does not have permissions to access the file.

He is in the owners group, and the owner’s group has full control.

The user was forced by his XP laptop to change passwords last Friday.

He is able to log into his laptop with his login and the new password.

He is able to access the SharePoint site and see the top level portal, without authentication issues.

He is able to open .txt or .pdf files, without authentication.

He is unable to open Word or Excel documents in some of his libraries.

He has been re-added to the owner group for the site. No difference to the behavior occurred.

When he uses Firefox, he is not prompted for login and password when opening the documents.

When he downloads the files, he has no problem doing so.

When the authentication dialog is checked in the process manager, it is associated to WinWord.exe

It doesn’t matter how many times he attempts to enter his login and password – they always fail.

Another user – me – when accessing the same site as spsadmin, is also prompted when attempting to open the .doc files. When I enter my login credentials, they succeed and the document opens.  Each time I attempt to open a Word or Excel document, I am prompted – unless I leave a previous version of the application that prompted me open. If _I_ use Firefox, the problem does not occur.

The odd thing, for me at least, is that when I move to another document library in the same site, I am not prompted for authentication when opening .doc files.

How to populate user info on custom list / SP2007/Designer

We want an end user to be able to enter an employee ID then have the other relevant fields (name, address, location, position etc) populate based on the employee number. We already have the employee ID field importing into our database so this isn't a question on how to do that... it's more of a question on how can I query the user profile database and return the results based on a list field.

Upgrading from SQL 2005 Express & WSS 3.0 to SQL 2008 & Foundation

$

Not sure if I have this in the correct forum as it's regarding upgrading the database from SQL Express and also upgrading from WSS 3.0 to Foundation  - moderaters please move if I'm in the incorrect place!

I am currently running WSS 3.0 with SQL Express 2005 on Windows Server 2003 (server name asharepoint). I am trying to plan an upgrade path to SharePoint Foundation with SQL 2008 on Windows Server 2008 64 bit and am finding it to be a bit of a minefield!

The path I'm thinking is:

  1. Setup a new server, bsharepoint, with Windows 2008 and SQL 2008 installed on it
  2. Backup the SQL 2005 Express databases from asharepoint and restore to Windows 2008/SQL 2008 server, bsharepoint
  3. Point WSS 3.0 (still on Windows 2003 server) to SQL2008 content databases. Configuration database is still on Windows 2003/SQL Express 2005 server
  4. Test WSS 3.0 with SQL 2008 content databases (will there be any issue with having a SQL 2005 configuration db and a SQL 2008 content db? I’m not sure of a any way to point WSS 3.0 to the SQL 2008 database?)
  5. Install SharePoint Foundation on bsharepoint, run configuration wizard
  6. Point Foundation to SQL2008 content databases
  7. Test Foundation
  8. Power off asharepoint
  9. Rename bsharepoint to asharepoint (I’d like the new server to have the same name as the old one as there are a lot of workflows setup and they contain references to the server name asharepoint)

What does everyone think? Am I missing anything or is there a better way to go about this?

Thanks for any advice,

Claire

How to switch URLs between Production MOSS farms

$
0
0

We will stand up an exact duplicate of our Production MOSS farm. The objective is to have two identical farms running simultaneously while we remove some customizations we no longer need, but we don’t want to do this directly in our production environment. Obviously, the new farm can’t have the same URL as the original farm.

When we’re done we will refresh the content in the new farm and then it will become Production, but first we need to have users reach the web applications in the new farm seamlessly.

How can we change the URL (host headers) for all the web applications in the new farm to the old farm’s URLs? (for example: if the old farm web app was http://production and the corresponding web app in new farm is http://production-temp by the end of the Maintenance, and after taking the old farm offline,  http://production-temp web app in the new farm will have to be renamed to http://production )

The requirements are to keep minimal down time as possible and not extending the web applications, we have extended some web applications to enable FBA and we don’t want to add more SP Administration overhead.

Is it possible to just modify the IIS host headers , update the existing AAMs accordingly and adjust the DNS entries? If so, would this procedure automatically update every SharePoint web app links?

Environment:

2 Web Front End Servers (NLB)

1 Application server (CA, search, indexing)

1 SQL 2008 server (clustered)
