Cannot login to the SharePoint 2013 Central Administration. HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable

I used to login to SharePoint 2013 Central Administration inside my VM that runs under windows server 2008 r2. But I have installed some third party tools and now when I try to login to the Central admin I will get the following error :-

Service Unavailable
HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable.

I run the “SharePoint 2013 Products Configuration Wizard”, which mentioned that it reconfigure SharePoint successfully. But I am still getting the same above error.

Any idea on what is wrong?

Thanks

How to have SharePoint 2013 open Excel when opening an XLSX file?

Hello,

I have SharePoint 2013 and Excel 2010 files in SharePoint.  When I click on the Excel file, it opens the Excel spreadsheet within the browser, and does not open the Excel application.  I have to click a button to get SharePoint to open the file in Excel.

How can I change this for all users in a site collection, so when they click on the Excel file, Excel is opened with the file?

Incoming email: Exchange in Office 365, on premise SharePoint 2013

Hi!

We have the Exchange service through Office 365 configured with single-sign-on to our local AD. We have chosen to run the SharePoint 2013 server on premise.

How can I configure incoming email to the on premise SharePoint server without installing a local exchange server? We are a small company so we cannot justify running an on premise exchange server in addition to the Office 365 license.

Is there some kind of connector or configuration that can be made to allow the O365 exchange server to communicate with our on premise SharePoint 2013?

Thanks ;)

i Have set the font size to 8 on the labels under document settings but in the document it gets added as a 11 and grayed out so you cant edit it.

This is a issue for the client.

Any idea why this will happen?

Thanks!

After migration from 2010 to 2013, user can not login

Hello,

After migrating a SharePoint 2010 site to SharePoint 2013 and converting user accounts to Claims Based Authentication, some users can not access some sub-sites.

There is one particular site where a user can not access a site.  The user is in an Active Directory (AD) security group that is applied to the site with contribute permissions levels, and was able to access the sub-site when it was on SharePoint 2010, but not on SharePoint 2013.  The user can access many other sites in the site collection, but not this site.

After the conversion to Claims Based, AD security groups in SharePoint now look like this.

 domain\sp - pbc - group - contributors (c:0+.w|s-1-5-21-2116618328-1633111315-19539831-13352)

The user did have access to the when her user name was added directly to the site, but access is denied when using an AD security group. I have tried removing the security group and adding it back in, but no luck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul

Hello,

I have created a synchronization connection and I can select users and groups in active directory that I want to synchronize and populate containers. When I start a full profile synchronization, no profiles are imported. I am using SharePoint 2013 SP1, Enterprise Edition.

Any suggestions?

Application pools intermittently hang

$

In a SharePoint 2013 farm with a single server that includes PowerPivot components, application pools intermittently hang. This happens for the Central administration web app, the actual PowerPivot web app and a new web app I created for testing purposes. In the test web app, it does not seem to matter if I browse to a PowerPivot site collection or not.

I can detect the hang by looking at "Worker processes" in IIS or by using Resource monitor and checking for wait chains.

The hang usually happens in the SPWindowsClaimsAuthentication module (request goes out, no response comes in). I currently replicate it be performing application pool recycles (or stop/start cycles). It takes a different amount of cycles each time, but usually after a few, the hang occurs. Another cycle, and it disappears.

It seems that if the PowerPivot service application is not associated with the web app, this does not happen. All other aspects of the PowerPivot system work great as long as the application pool is not hang.

I tried to use Windbg, but the symbols I installed (I have no internet inside the prganization) do not seem to be compatible even though I downloaded the correct ones (the server is Windows 2008 R2 SP1, the web apps are all 64 bit). Either way, SOSEX finds no deadlocks and SOS find no locks.

The last thing I found is that if I change the SPWindowsClaimsAuthentication HttpModule configuration to include a precondition="managedHandler", it seems to make the issue go away in the test web app.

Hi team,

I am facing an issue in Blob cache. My application is showing incosistency across the farm. While the application is rendered correct from few server but from few it fails to render correct. If i disable Blob cache from web>config, It starts working correctly.

I tried disabling, Deleting and flushing but one or the other is creating issues. Only in disabled case it works fine with all server as the data is pulled from DB.

My config setting for BLOB in web.config.

<BlobCache location="D:\BlobCache\app" path="\.(gif|jpg|jpeg|jpe|jfif|bmp|dib|tif|tiff|themedbmp|themedcss|themedgif|themedjpg|themedpng|ico|png|wdp|hdp|css|js|asf|avi|flv|m4v|mov|mp3|mp4|mpeg|mpg|rm|rmvb|wma|wmv|ogg|ogv|oga|webm|xap|htc)$" maxSize="20" enabled="true" max-age="1200" />

How to configure SharePoint Hosted Apps to work with ADFS 3.0

$

Hi,

I setup a SharePoint 2013 environment to Authenticate using ADFS 3.0 using domain credentials. The SharePoint site is working fine. I created another web application to host Apps and configured that to use the same STS provider (ADFS 3.0). But that is not working since I can't add a wildcard relying party in ADFS 3.0 (like https://*.myapps.com). As per the article http://nearbaseline.com/blog/2013/07/sharepoint-hosted-apps-with-saml-authentication/ using ADFS for identity federation is not possible for Apps.

Is there any solution/workaround to use ADFS 3.0 for SharePoint Apps.

Thanks,

Anupam

Active Directory import not pulling in profiles

$

I have setup and configured SharePoint 2013 user profiles in my development farm and the UPSS to import Active Directory user profiles, however, when I run the import job no user profiles are imported from AD. The job runs for a little over a minute and it appears it is cycling through all of the steps and finishes, but no profiles are actually imported. I have looked in the LOGS and cannot find any errors. Here are the steps I have done to configure the UPSA and UPSS:

  • Created the UPSA using the farm_admin account
  • Created a UPSS account using the farm_admin account and had the profile_sync account assigned "Replicating Changes"
  • The user profile service is running
  • Then user profile synchronization is running
  • The UPSA account is setup
  • Our MySites is created
  • All 4 user profile databases are created
  • The UPSA is associated with the web application
  • The UPSS is also associated with the web application (I had to run a PowerShell script to attach it. I found the script here http://pinchii.com/home/2012/03/adding-services-to-default-application-proxy-group-in-sharepoint-2010/)

Some troubleshooting things I have run into include:

  • the account did not have proper permissions (which I fixed by giving the profile_sync account "Replicating Changes")
  • I originally ran into this issue when I removed several service applications and their app pools to re-create them under a single application pool. My intent was to reduce the workload on the server by reducing the pools. When I re-created the User Profile Service Application I started running into these issues.
  • I read a blog that said the User Profile SA will not work unless the Managed Metadata SA is already setup. So I added the Managed Metadata SA also, however, it did not fix the issue.

When I am configuring the User Profile Connections, I am using the farm account (which works) and populating the containers. This process appears to work fine, however, after I choose a test group (using my department as a test) and then completing this section to start the synchronization … no user profiles get added.

I am stumped. Are there any steps I have missed or configuration settings that are required for UPSA and sync that I have not setup yet? Any ideas?

Thank you,

Alex

License Mapping issue - Mysite Creation

SharePoint Server 2013 -

I am getting an error for users trying to create mysites after enabling license mapping feature.   I enabled it because users were able to add Enterprise webparts which we only purchased the standard edition license.    Now users aren't able to create mysites and I am getting this error:
"Skipping creation of personal site from MySitePersonalSiteUpgradeOnNavigationWebPart::CreatePersonalSite() because one or more of the creation criteria has not been met. [SPWeb Url=https://my.com/Person.aspx?accountname=Domain\user]  https://my.com/Person.aspx?accountname=Domain\userr]Self-Service Site Creation == True  Can Create Personal Site == False  Is user licensed == False  :

I have added a mapping of "Standard" for a security group this user belongs to but still getting the same error.   Do you need to enable Enterprise for users to create Mysites?  That doesn't seem to make sense.   Any ideas?

Getting SPWeb.CurrentUser as null with Windows Authentication (AD), when configured for Claims Authentication

$

Hi All,

We recently migrated to SP 2013 from SP 2010. We are using most of the OOB features, with a few custom code. We have implemented a custom ASP.NET Membership Provider that authenticates against a web service. This was working fine on SP 2010.

The entire code base was migrated to SP 2013 (with .net fw 4.5, etc) and any issues Compile / Runtime were fixed. However, we are stuck at one bug, which seems to be occuring only while trying to login with Windows Authentication. When a user tries to login with Forms Authentication, the error is never noticed.

Scenrio: Login as Windows Authentiction.
Result: The user is signed into the system and is authenticated against the AD. For random page loads - it throws access denied (even though he is a site collection admin). While attaching a debugger, we found that, at times the SPWeb.CurrentUser is null (weird). At the same time, the HttpContext.Current.Request.IsAuthenticated returns true. Which means the User is Authenticated, but not available in the SPWeb.CurrentUser object.

Attached are couple of ULS Logs that we found. The line which says IsAuthenticated=True, UserIdentityName=, ClaimsCount=0 is a little disturbing. Can you please let me know what is happening here? I am not able to access the root site (http://win2012d2:1234/) however, i am able to access (http://win2012d2:1234/SitePages/Home.aspx) just fine, without any issues.

Please note, this error is only when the user is logged into sharepoint as a windows user. The forms user faces no such issues.

I am trying to upgrade a site collection which has SSRS reports in it. When I run Test-SPContentDatabase with database of SP2010 and the new web application of 2013 I obtain the errors:

All events logging at 'High' level

Hello forum,

Appreciate your thoughts on this unusual problem that I've discovered in my SharePoint 2013 event log.

In looking back through my SharePoint logs, they're filled with nothing but 'High' level entries whose descriptions all start with 'Forced due to logging gap'. I can't find anything to help identify what's happening here.

Here's some samples of what I'm seeing:

Am planning to apply the latest CU's to the system but feel like I want to have a handle on what I'm looking at here before starting something else.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Hello Community!

I have a SharePoint 2013 install with all databases installed to the C drive, (no real content yet), I know need to move all those databases to the D drive which has been designated for data - what is the best way to do this?  Please provide guidance and script examples.

Thanks!

Tom
