Permissions on document libraries and folders

$

I post here ALOT! And yet I am here again.

Does SharePoint allow read-only permissions to a document library but allow users to edit or upload to a particular folder?

Here's my scenario....

I have a few AD groups in SP. They need read only permissions to a document library. There will be master docs in the main library that groups will need access to, but not be able to make changes or upload any docs in the library. However, these groups should be able to uploads docs in their department folders only and no one else's department folder.

I've done a few things but ran into some issues.

1. Broke the document library inheritance from site.

2. Gave document library read permissions

3. For each department folder, I selected and "Share" and granted edit permission to the respective department allowing them access to upload.

Here's my problem. After doing this, users were able to upload docs in their department folder but when they click save, they receive a message, "Sorry, you don't have access to this page." When they click out the message, the document upload anyway.

Is there an easier way to accomplish this? I am also looking into creating a custom permission level, but I think I will have the same issue. How can groups contribute to their folders only but still have read only rights to top level document library?

EX of Doc Library

Accounting folder (only Accounting can contribute but Sales and HR can view)
Sales folder (only Sales can contribute but Accounting and HR can view)
Human Resources folder (only HR can contribute but Accounting and Sales can view)
Exel doc (Accouting Sales and HR view only)
Word doc (Accounting Sales and HR view only)

Hi

I have a site collection based on a Team Site template which has now grown out of all recognition.

There is now about half a million documents in it and I think it is time for a change of site collection template to the document centre.  I then can have access to the content organiser.

How can I move half a million documents between the two site collections bearing in mind the space this will require during copying.

Anybody any ideas ?

Thanks

SharePoint workflow templates

I understand that the approval workflow template that comes with SharePoint 2013 is the SharePoint 2010-based workflow. This article misleads people: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint-server-help/all-about-approval-workflows-HA102771433.aspx?CTT=1 as it states:

Template

Select the Approval – SharePoint 2013 template.

 Note    If the Approval – SharePoint 2013 template doesn’t appear in the list, contact your SharePoint administrator to find out about having it activated for your site collection or workspace.

It would be beneficial (to those of us using your documentation) to fix this so it is accurate.

Thank you,

I have followed this post on Setting up Hybrid search of Office 365 from Sharepoint On premise:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/wbaer/archive/2014/03/24/one-way-outbound-hybrid-search-step-by-step-and-onedrive-for-business.aspx#comments

As well as tested all of the validation steps in the following Technet Article on setting up Identity Management.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn197169(v=office.15).aspx

However the last validation step in each is to test the Result Source and I get the following error:

Web error: System.Net.WebException: The request was aborted: The request was canceled. ---> Microsoft.SharePoint.IdentityModel.OAuth2.SPOAuth2ErrorResponseException: [invalid_client] ACS50027: JWT token is invalid.
Trace ID: 375a7faa-be03-441e-be21-5b29

I am really scratching my head here and My Google Foo is coming up empty on any variation of that error.

at this moment i ONLY want to use the 1TB onedrive space offered for backup... it is INCREDIBLY complicated to do so... or, rather: although i know how to use computers i have NOT managed to set it up to sync with my hard drive... (being a HAPPY skydrive/onedrive not-for-business user for a long time, so i know the 'feel').
please point me to an article (or write one) where to do exactly that: "how to sync onedrive pro ('for business') as easily as possible".

Hi All,

  We have a list view which uses [Me] filter to show the user their record on a specific page. All the migration everything was migrated successfully. But this particular page doesn't seem to work. The record is physically there on the list but not on the view. But if we edit the record and delete the user in the people picker field and then add it again it works.

We have quite a lot of pages where we use this [Me]. Hardly impossible to do it on every single record. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Thanks,

I accidentally deleted the Rating (0-5) column from my site collection. I need to get it back. I found this thread about how to do it in SharePoint 2010 (although I'm not sure that problem was actualy solved).

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/0b7e75f8-c2ed-465c-8d90-be399616aba6/how-to-create-rating-05-column-under-ratings-group?forum=sharepointgeneralprevious

Also I don't have access to the PowerShell, so if there was another way that I could do it that would be great. Any ideas?

Sharepoint 2013 Restore Problems - Trying to Restore Pre-SP1 backup to SP1

$

We just upgraded our Sharepoint 2013 to SP1, it was up-to-date sans SP1, we then upgraded the server from 2012 to 2012 R2. AFter the upgrade I kept getting 500 errors when I tried to access the site. I scoured the net and tried several different things, but nothing seemed to get the job done or it did not apply to my problem. I cam across one article that said yI should run SHarepoint Products Configuration Wizard again. Blindly frustrated I went ahead and did just that. Not only did it not solve my problem , but it started my Sharepoint install from scratch, doh!  I have a backup containing all of my content so I figured no problem right, and went ahead and did a restore, but there were quite a few errors, the log is below. Interestingly, I found the fix to my problem immediately after this and was also able to repair the http 500 error. I have included the fix for the http 500 error at the very bottom for those that come across this post. Once that was fixed I checked the site and it appears to all be there, but I am really concerned there may be problems in the future.

So, my question is this. Can you restore a pr-SP1 2013 backup to a SP1 2013 Sharepoint server? If yes, what is the procedure? If no, how should I proceed from here? The log is below for reference. Sorry for the length. Thank you for any assistance. I have removed any personalized information.

Sharepoint 2013 publishing page

Hi there, we are migrating SharePoint 2007 environment to SharePoint 2013 environment.Copying databases first to SharePoint 2010 and everything works well.As we continue the upgrade by copying the databases to SharePoint 2013 environment there is problems with editing top level site collection homepages. The site collection and site publishing feature is enabled.The problem occurs in a site collection landing page.We are able to edit the page, but check in / save / or publish comes with an error message that another user has edited a page. This user edited page in the SharePoint 2007 environment.If we make a new landing page we can publish it, but if we edit it we can't check in / save  or publish it. The error appears again that another user has edited that page.Now this user is the user who made the new page. If we deactive the publishing feature we can edit and save those pages. If we then active the feature again the problems are back. What makes this really weird is that everything work just fine in site collections which are under these problematic site collections. For example:

http://sitename not working

http://sitename/1 not working

http://sitename/1/1 working

http://sitename/2 not working

http://sitename/2/1 working

and so on...

Listed below is one of the ULS logs error message:

Hi,

Infopath 2013 Publishing error - The following URL is not valid.

When we try to publish a infopath 2013 form to a web application with a root site collection , we get the following error.

" The following URL is not valid."

Things tried :

We had tried all the solutions provided in google reuslts for the error search.

  • Checked if it has a root site collection.
  • stopped and started then "System Event Notifcation" service
  • Added the verb entry in the http Handler tag
  • added a host entry for the URL.

the solution i saw on the net was to allow all verbs on iis or rather still add <remove verb="*" path="*.asmx"/> to httphandlers on the web config.

please how do i resolve this as none of this worked for me

Managed navigation on variation sites

$

Hi all, I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this. I have a publishing site collection and two variations sites, i.e:

  • http://server/sites/publishing
  • http://server/sites/publishing/es-cr
  • http://server/sites/publishing/en-us

The source variation sites is http://server/sites/publishing/es-cr. Then I have a Managed Navigation term set in spanish and translated to english, so the managed navigation service is set up to use spanish language as default but also work with english, i.e:

  • Spanish term: Personas
  • English term: People

To use this managed navigation in my variation site, I set my root site (publishing) to use the termset as global navigation, and then set that my variations site use the same navigation as parent site, the problem is that, even though I'm on english variation site, the managed navigation language keeps showing in spanish.

I decided to do another test, and this time instead of using the navigation termset in the top level site, I use it in the source variation site (http://server/sites/publishing/es-cr) but now, english variation site doesn't show any navigation, so I went to the navigation settings and now, it shows me one more group, which is not available in the Managed Navigation Service configuration through CA, storing a termset in english but without any terms.

Basically what I want to achieve is to use the same termset in my variation sites with their respective language.

Thanks in advance.

I am trying to remove a user from a SharePoint Group using PowerShell.

I can see the user in the Site Collection as part of the SharePoint Group, however, when I attempt to run the script, I get an error message stating "Can not find the user with ID: 10"

Below is the PowerShell script that I am using:

$url = "https://sharepointdev.spfarm.spcorp.com/sites/desitecoll"
$userName = "spfarm\sp2013_svc"
#$userName = "spfarm\spprofileimport";
$site = New-Object Microsoft.SharePoint.SPSite($url)
$web = $site.OpenWeb()
$siteGroups = $web.SiteGroups;

Clear-Host

$mySiteGroups = @();
foreach($group in $siteGroups)
{
	Write-Host $group
	$mySiteGroups += $group;
}#foreach

$members = $web.SiteGroups[$mySiteGroups[0]];
$owners = $web.SiteGroups[$mySiteGroups[1]];
$visitors = $web.SiteGroups[$mySiteGroups[2]];

#Remove the user from the specified SharePoint Group
$spUser = Get-SPUser -Identity $userName -Web $url
Write-Host $spUser.ID

Remove-SPUser -Identity $spUser -Web $url -Group $owners
$web.Update();
$web.Dispose();

Write-Host "User " $userName   "removed from " $owners

Please advise.

Multiple Login Prompts for Isolated App Environment

$

I am hoping for a work around to this as its driving me, and my users, mad.

We have a SharePoint 2013 deployment, with Isolated Apps setup. When a user within the domain accesses SharePoint, it automatically logs in and displays any and all apps without issue.

When a user logs in from Home, or from any other network, they are prompted to login once for the site (which is expected) and once for each app on the page they are logging into. Once password is entered for each prompt, it works fine, but i still have staff complaining that they need to login multiple times.

My SharePoint runs on domain.com and my isolated apps run on domainapps.com.

Is it possible to stop this and force the app to take its permission from the logged in SharePoint user?

Thanks in advance

Paul
