SP2013 to SP210 - Content Deployment Error

$

Hi guys,

I have a quick question regarding Content Deployment from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013.

I've succefully migrated our Dev Farm which includes an App Tier, and WFE Tier from SharePoint 2010 to 2013. The migration has succeeded according to our plan. The current Site Collection is still in SharePoint 2010 mode as when the site is upgraded it breaks as expected and no pages are displayed, so I have kept the migrated site as 2010 mode for now.

We publish from our dev farm to a public farm in the DMZ which is live on the Internet. The version of the Farm within the DMZ is SharePoint 2010.

When I attempt to push a Content Deployment Job from Dev to Live the below error appears. Am I missing something? Do

Error:
Content deployment job 'Remote import job for job with sourceID = 9f053efd-1e9a-478c-bd92-126910849d27': Import in progressThe exception thrown was 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException' : '
The version of the package 15.0.0.0 is different from the current version this program supports, 14.0.0.0.'

Not understanding the error fully it seems a version issue? Do I need to migrate the DMZ farm to SP2013 also? Can SP2013 deploy to SP210?

Much appreciated in advance

When attempting to use Excel Web Access web part, I get "We're sorry. We ran into a problem completing your request. Please try that again in a few minutes."

Checked event log and found

There was an error in communicating with Excel Calculation Services http://my server:32843/49082a5d56c141629497dd8b28375f47/ExcelService*.asmx exception: The remote server returned an error: (503) Server Unavailable.

I googled the error and, as suggested by various sources, rebooted the server. (Same issue occurs) I also tried disabling asp.net impersonation with no change.  Ideas?

Word Web App "Sorry we ran into a probem" after hotfixes

I installed the March 2013 and October 2013 hotfixes and it appears to have broken my web apps for word. When a document opens, it says "sorry, we ran into a problem" and gives you the option to restart (which returns same error) or exit.  I don't even know how to begin troubleshooting this.

Update: works fine in IE9, but not IE11.

View containing custom column works in SharePoint 2010 but crashes webpart in SharePoint 2013

First off.. I am using SP FOUNDATION.  Secondly, I'm linking a contact library from a parent site to a view on a sub site. This works in SP 2010 but when I tried to duplicate it in our new SP 2013 site, it doesn't.

Reproduce steps to add Parent Contact Picks to Blog Sub-Site in SP 2010 (Foundation)

  1. In parent site, create a contact list (add some people)
  2. In parent site à Site Settingsà Site Columns … create a new Column of type “Lookup”. Set the Information Source to the Contact List in step 1 with its Column = “Last Name (linked to item)”
  3. Create a BLOG sub site
  4. BlogSite à Site Settingsà Site Libraries and Listsà Posts à Add from existing site columns …. Select the Lookup column you created in step 2.
  5. BlogSite à Site Settingsà Site Libraries and Listsà Posts à Create View à Standard View….Create a new view and select ONLY the lookup column from step 4.
  6. Add a new Blog post and while in the ‘New-Item’ form, make sure to select a person from the Contact list.
  7. Open up the details page of the new post so that only the single post shows. Edit the Page and Insert a New Web Partà Lists and Libraries à Posts.
  8. Edit the newly added web part and change its view to the one created above in step 5.
  9. Drop the down arrow to the right of the newly added web part’s title and select Connections à Get Filtered values Fromà Post [1] (or whatever the default Post Web part is called). Set both the “Provider” and the “Consumer” field names to “ID”.

You will now see that whenever you open the “Details” page of any blog post, you will see the Main post (aka the original form), the normal “Add Comment” entry web part, AND the new web part that show the Contact selection specific to that single post. Clicking on the Name of the contact will actually pop up the details from the parent site.

SharePoint 2013 (Foundation)

Now perform the exact same steps in SharePoint 2013. However you’ll notice that Step 8 above appears to work but as soon as you try and edit that web part again or move on to step 9, the newly added web part states “Unable to display this Web Part. To troubleshoot the problem….. Correlation ID: 52d36c9c-e7a2-509e-1d60-3df1ce53ce2d”.

In doing some testing, if I adjust step # 5 as to NOT select the new linked column.. it works. Oddly however, the new view works when are you just using the view by itself (/site/lists/Posts/NewViewname.aspx).

Sorry, you dont have access to this page when creating a subsite

We have SharePoint 2013 Enterprise and I am trying to give an end user the ability to create a subsite within her departmental site. I gave her user designer permissions and she now has the "new susbsite" option and can go through the process. But when she clicks on Create it opens an new window that says "Sorry, you don't have access to this page when creating a subsite".

I even made a group with the create subsites permissions and added her to it but its not working. Giving her full control doesn't make a difference either. It seems that with SharePoint 2013 the users, groups, permissions and so on are spread all over the place and its not easy to configure. I'm pretty new to it as well so that may be the case.

I made a test user and added it to the Site Collection Administrators and that allowed me to create a new subsite with the user but obviously I don't want to add her to this group. So what am I missing?

My Sites "Updating values in this field is disabled temporarily"

$

Managed metadata is configured and I am able to access and add terms, etc. I am able to go to the User Profile Service in Central Admin and update the managed metadata fields such as "Ask Me About", "Past Projects", "Skills", etc. However, when I go to the My Site host and try to edit my profile there, I get the error:

There was a problem retrieving data for this field. Updating values in this field is disabled temporarily. You can still update values in other fields.

  • Managed Metadata Service is available:
I am able to go to the Managed Metadata service in Central Admin, add terms, etc.
  • Service Connection settings:
Checked - This service application is the default storage location for Keywords
Checked - This service application is the default storage location for column specific term sets
  • Editing profile from My Site host:
Ask me About: There was a problem retrieving data for this field. Updating values in this field is disabled temporarily. You can still update values in other fields.
  • Edit the same profile in Central Admin works fine:
Ask Me About: No error, able to add data.

All the solutions for this error that I have been able to find are not working, but they are for when the managed metadata service is inaccessible, or the fields cannot be updated in Central Admin either. I've recreated both the User Profile service and the Managed Metadata service. Any ideas?

Thanks

Installing SharePoint 2013 on a non-system Drive

Hi,

We have been asked to install SharePoint on a different drive (from C: where the client's OS resides).

(It is our understanding) and we have also gone through many articles on the net (please see below) which suggest that the 15 Hive location is always created on the boot drive by SharePoint and that we can't change it, however, we can always specify a different location for SharePoint logs and Search Index files.

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/43c08b1a-aefd-42e8-981d-3a055421af99/sharepoint-2013-change-15-hive-location-to-other-storage?forum=sharepointadmin

https://habaneroconsulting.com/insights/The-SharePoint-Hive

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/da107f96-8499-4c0d-806f-5718cf1a16f6/install-sp2010-file-location-tab?forum=sharepointadminprevious

However, in the article below from Microsoft, there is a note put which mentions "As a best practice, we recommend that you install SharePoint 2013 on a non-system drive."

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee805948.aspx

Please could anyone advise if MS actually mean that the location of the 15 Hive can be changed by simply providing a different file location during the SharePoint installation, or does the suggestion refer to storing log/search index files on a non-system drive.

(We will be testing the installation soon on a test VM to check this, however, might be quicker to ask).

Many thanks & kind regards,

Puneet

Retrieving files from Sharepoint Online based on time stamp using SharePoint Online Management Shell

Hello,

I would like to create a Powershell script to download files based on timestamp (all files updated on a given date or later). I would really appreciate any guidance on which cmdlets/objects I should look at to accomplish this.  I am new to Sharepoint online and Powershell, though not to programming or scripting.

Thank you for your help!

Changing MySite Path

Hello everyone,

I created MySite URL with unnecessary path which I'm trying to remove. My actual MySite URL is http://sharepointserver/my/personal/Userprofile. So all the profile users created their profile under the path my/personal. I want to remove the personal path and keep only the path "my" but I have to keep the old profiles unchanged.

Someone can help me with that?

Thanks!

SP 2013 - Database Recovery Mode When Using SQL Server Mirroring

$

Hello Community,

Our DBA is configuring a High Availability Architecture for our SharePoint 2013 Farm.  Essentially he is using SQL Server Database mirroring with a clustered automatic failover using a witness server.  He has informed me that mirroring requires that the databases are set to Full Recovery Mode, but that several of the databases are set to Simple Recovery Mode, the databases are the following:

SearchService_DB
SearchService_DB_CrawlStore
SearchService_DB_AnalyticsReportingStore
SearchService_DB_LinksStore
WSS_UsageApplication
User_Profile_DB
User_Sync_DB
User_Social_DB

However, when I checked the following article - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc678868.aspx - I see that Simple Recovery Mode is the default configuration for these databases.  So, finally, here is my question - will it be detrimental to these databases to set them to the Full Recovery Mode?

Thanks!

Tom

Workflow Manager 1.0 Cumulative Update 1 installation finishes but not installed

Problem 1: I'm trying to install the Workflow Manager CU 1. I tried using Web Platform Installer and the stand alone package. Installation finishes without errors. When using the stand alone package I only get a message with the location of the log file that doesn't seem to have any errors in it.

Also I do not see any errors in the event viewer.

Nevertheles the Commulative Update is not installed. If I open the Web Platform Installer I still see it as something that is not installed.

Problem 2: Why do I care? I do have this problem with Workflow Manager that I was hoping that the CU would solve:

Hello -

I recently migrated to SharePoint 2013.    Under Site Settings > Web Design Galleries > Solutions, I can see that my site templates carried over.   They have been activated.    However, when I go to create a new subsite, I noticed that the Custom tab is missing.    Any suggestions on how I can retrieve that?

Are you able to limit access to specific folders in SharePoint 2013, instead of creating a sub-site which you had to do in SharePoint 2010?

We have our SMTP server under port number 141 and we should add username and password. but inside SharePoint 2013, I can only define the SMTP server name , from email, reply-to . But there are not fields to define the port number , the username and password. So can anyone advice from where I can define the port number and other field settings for the SMTP server ?

Thanks

Navigation in Office WebApps 2013 window

Hi,

We use Sharepoint 2013 with Office WebApps 2013. When we opens the document from sharepoint site the first navigation breadcrumb in the office webapps window has the same name as the Sharepoint site, but the link under this name points to the document library where the document is stored.

Is it possible to change this? In Sharepoint 2010+OfficeWebapps 2010 the link under first breadcrumb points to the site.  We need the same behavior  in Sharepoint 2013.

Thank You.
