After upgrading our farm to SharePoint 2013 we are having trouble changing the master page for sites that don't have sub-sites. We are still using the v4 UI version, and that appears to be what is causing the problem. The error we get when going to /_layouts/ChangeSiteMasterPage.aspx is:

System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.    at Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Internal.CodeBehind.AreaChromeSettingsPage.OnLoad(EventArgs e)     at System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive()     at System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain(Boolean includeStagesBeforeAsyncPoint, Boolean includeStagesAfterAsyncPoint)

Hi All,

I have installed SQL Server 2012 ,Sharepoint 2010 and Office 2013 on win server 2008 R2

All my configuration settings went smooth.

Two things:

1. If I create a regular xls or .xlsx report and try to open through the sharepoint it opens

2. If I create a power pivot enabled report in excel and save that on sharepoint then I get below message:

Unable to refresh data for a connection in the workbook.Try again or contact your administrator. The following connections failed to refresh:ThisWorkbookDataModel

Link from where I am trying to access the above excel: http://<server>/<sitename>/Forms/Gallery.aspx

Please let me know how to resolve this

From the following posts I understand that the way Incoming email service works has been changed in SP2013 and it basically runs only on one server until Timer Service Recycle job runs (which is once a day).

Hi all,

I would just like to ask, does Retention Policies work for Document Sets? 

Currently, I have one specified to run after 1 day. It is already 2 days after. I tried manually running the "Information Management Policy" and "Expiration Policy" Timer Jobs, but it doesn't do anything.

I checked my configuration of Send To (by doing a manual Send To Another Location using the 3 ellipsis) and it works properly. 

I even tried changing the action to take on the Retention Policy and applying the Retention Policy to List Level instead of Content Type level. It doesn't work either.

Does anyone know what might be the problem?

Problem 1: I'm trying to install the Workflow Manager CU 1. I tried using Web Platform Installer and the stand alone package. Installation finishes without errors. When using the stand alone package I only get a message with the location of the log file that doesn't seem to have any errors in it.

Also I do not see any errors in the event viewer.

Nevertheles the Commulative Update is not installed. If I open the Web Platform Installer I still see it as something that is not installed.

Problem 2: Why do I care? I do have this problem with Workflow Manager that I was hoping that the CU would solve:

If you deployed SharePoint 2013 and your user logon name accounts have space characters, the users will receive "Sorry, something went wrong Correlation ID: 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000" if they are accessing specific sections of your sites.

I am describing a little bit how the problem can be reproduced. I have:

• SharePoint 2013 with CU August 13 2013 (15.0.4535.1000) – latest CU available for SharePoint 2013 (at this moment).
• User Profile Synchronization Service properly configured.
• One user account who has space characters in the value of sAMAccountName (e.g. Smith John)
• One user account who doesn’t have space characters in the value of sAMAccountName (e.g. Smith.John)

If you authenticate to SharePoint 2013 using "ITECH\Smith John" and go to "Newsfeed" -> "I'm following" section and click to get the sites / documents you are following, SharePoint will return "Sorry, something went wrong Correlation ID: 00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000".

In the SharePoint logs you will get:

If you look carefully, the URL address looks like "http://yourdomain/personal/itech_ smith%2520john/Social/Sites.aspx". The problem is the %2520 which normally should be %20.

If you manually correct the URL (http://yourdomain/personal/itech_ smith%20john/Social/Sites.aspx) you will get to the correct page.

If you authenticate to SharePoint 2013 using "DOMAIN\Smith.John" you will not encounter the issue described above.

Is it possible Microsoft support to check and come with a patch for this issue?

Email notification is not working on my sharepoint 2013.

Must I have exchange server?

Please can you explain more about "Outgoing Email" and "Outbound SMTP Server" if I have to configure it somewhere before using it.

Can you point me to article where how I can confgure the sharepoint 2013 apps to use the FBA as the authentication store?.

Here is what I have configured in my server

• A Web Application with a host header (site.com). This web has two zones one with windows authentication and another with FBA)
  
• A app domain url (*.siteapps.com: This is the primary zone in the DNS)
• A dummy web application with no host header (Same authentication settings as the site.com). This dummy site is due to the issue with the SharePoint web app with host header on 80 port.

Here is my issue

• Scenario one: When I try to access any apps from the FBA zone, I am prompted with NTLM authentication pop up.
• Can I make sure apps too use FBA authentication?
• If the app can use FBA, Can we configure the site not ask for credentials again (SSO)?

• Scenario two: When I try to access any apps from the Windows authenticated zone, I am prompted with the same NTLM authentication pop up.
• Why is the credentials not being shared between the site and apps?

Troubleshooting steps performed

• For scenario one: Since the app requested with host header are redirected through the dummy site, I tried without success to configure the site using only FBA, only windows and combination.

For Windows Server 2008 R2 with SP1, Exchange Server 2010 with SP1, Lync Server 2010 with SP1 and SharePoint Server 2011 we had a nice Information Worker Demonstration and Evaluation Virtual Machine (SP1) , for demo purposes, small testing, development, and other stuff.

But what about new Information Worker set of virtual machines ? I mean which includes: Windows Server 2012, Exchange Server 2013, Lync 2013, SharePoint 2013, Office Web Apps 2013 with full features and RTM + CU1 versions.

Are there any news about it ? When we can expect this ? Since Microsoft is pushing new technologies I believe this should be available ASAP so we can show things to other partners, customers and spread Microsoft words. Also for small testing, development etc. it saves lot of time for IT admins and maintenance.

I understand there is Office365 solution based on 2013 and Trial can be used for some kind of demo, however it is not the same and there are no all features implemented on cloud solution.

I need to have two separate SharePoint Web Applications, each using different DNS names but both using SSL. So in other words something like this:

• https://application1.local
• https://application2.local

It's a branding requirement and not negotiable.

I have a single server SharePoint 2013 Farm with a separate SQL Server database. I am limited to one IP address on the server, which by the way is Windows Server 2008 R2. I'm aware of the limitation of one SSL certificate per IP address and am looking to overcome this.

In IIS 7.0 and IIS 7.5 you can actually achieve this (we have done so) with the following PowerShell code for "normal" IIS sites. By "normal" I mean not SharePoint:

I've tried the above on SharePoint 2013 for application1.local and application2.local and whilst at least in the IIS bindings screens for each site as well as in PowerShell, it looks all successful, attempts to access https://application1.local works as expected, but https://application2.local always pops up with an authentication prompt.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to resolve this?

I have a records center that, when I manually upload a document to the drop off library and set the properties correctly (to match a routing rule), will be routed to the destination library without issue.

When I upload a document to the drop off library and set the properties using PowerShell, the document is never routed.  If I edit the item, not changing a thing, and click Submit, the document is routed.

Has anyone ever seen this?

I am looking for guidance about using SharePoint 2013 for Intranet, Extranet & Internet sites. Ideally we would like to use just one SharePoint farm for Intranet/Extranet & Internet both. I have studied Microsoft Extranet Topologies digram & Edge firewall option is what we are considering at the moment. However, we would like to ascertain the security aspect of using Edge Topology.

Topology we are currently looking at is
    - Four WFE servers & two APP servers
    - 2 x WFE dedicated to Intranet & 2 x WFE for Internet
    - Two web applications, one for Intranet & second for Internet.
    - Both Intranet & Internet web applications to use Host-Named site collections
    - Unified Access Gateway (UAG) for managing authentication of remote employees for Intranet & anoynmous public for Internet
    - Load balancing or UAG to direct Intranet & Internet traffic to their dedicated WFE servers. This means we can shutdown "Internet" IIS application pool & web application on WFE servers responsible for Intranet

My question is
    - Is it wise to host both Intranet (secure) & Internet (unsecure) sites on same SharePoint farm located inside corporate network? We have some people saying even though it's technically possible to host all sites on one platform, bringing anonymous Internet traffic to internal servers is a big no due to security issues.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I just set up RBS on SharePoint 2013 following this guide which seems that went wrong. Now, all my attachments on the farm are broken after running$rbs.Migrate() from this guide.

Hi there

We have a forest with several thousands of users and several domains in it.
There is a SharePoint farm in one of the domains.
We use it primarily for project management.
Basically all users of the forest can access the farm, but not all of them use SharePoint (about 200 at the moment).

We do not want to sync all of the ActiveDirectory users into SharePoint, this would be an overhead in our opinion.

We could create a PowerShell Script and use Set-SPUser to update some of the properties.
But still, is there a way to configure Profile-Sync to just synchronize those Users from ActiveDirectory which already have logged in to SharePoint (and have that "mini-profile" on the Site-Collection)?

Here we have an issue like when we restore a site collection backup collected from similar SPF2013 Farm (Same Version,Same schema) on host site collection, This host site collection gets deleted after some time.
