Hello,

I would like to use web app server's view capabilities in wiki pages or content editor web part. Particularly, I would like to add a link to an office document that, if you hover on it, the owa panel should open. No, you press the link and the office document is being downloaded to the PC.

Is this possible?

Thank you.

RBS (BLOB Storage)

I'm using SharePoint 2013 and we're looking to implement RBS (BLOB) storage. This is something new to me so I've been reading about it and I've seen articles that use tools for this such thing such as tools from DocAve and other tools as well as Database configurations, etc. To get RBS to work from a SharePoint 2013 farm/environment, is there anything from the SharePoint side that has to be done, or is it truly at the database level? I create a document center site collection that the users will upload and view the docs in, however, is there anything that has to be done at the SharePoint level for this to work?

I was configuring the site mailbox feature in my SharePoint 2013 Farm, and I followed this topic

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj552524.aspx

but When I'm trying to run the script, It shows me this warning "Unable to find exchange web services in global assembly cache!" then when I try the site mailbox, it gets me this error "One or more pre-requisites for connecting to Exchange Server could not be found. Please contact your system administrator to resolve this issue, and then try again."

Using Active Directory Groups To Grant Permission To a SharePoint 2013 Site

We created a Portal for our Organization. and our plan is to grand Users Permissions through AD. so we created Active Directory Security group for each and every Level (Ex: Site Visitor, Site1 Contributor, Site2 Contributor, etc). and we created SharePoint Groups for those Active Directory Security Groups (SP_SiteVisitor, SP_Site1Contributor, etc).

Out target is to add the user to Active directory group without adding them directly to the SharePoint. which will be easy to manage. We tried this and seems we are having issue. this approach is not working. can anyone help us to achieve this?

Thank you!!!

Do I have to buy license for SharePoint 2010 to upgrade from 2007 to 2013?

Hi, we have SharePoint 2007 (Enterprise) and now we want to upgrade directly to SharePoint 2013.

I have been told that 2007 to 2013 is not directly possible and I have to go 2007 to 2010 to 2013.

Does this mean I have to buy license for SP 2010 just for the upgrade process?

Thanks in advance.

SharePoint 2013 Central Admin Kerberos Error

I have a single server farm, with both SQL 2012 and SharePoint 2013 on a single Windows Server 2012 server (SP01.domain.com).

I installed SP with NTLM on port 5555, then set up SPNs on Farm account and converted CA to use Kerberos. I can login to CA perfectly fine, however, on occasion (sometimes after reboots), I get this Error in the System Event Log:

The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server SP-SearchSvc. The target name used was CORP\SP-FarmSvc. This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Ensure that the target SPN is only registered on the account used by the server. This error can also happen if the target service account password is different than what is configured on the Kerberos Key Distribution Center for that target service. Ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both configured to use the same password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (CORP.DOMAIN.COM) is different from the client domain (CORP.DOMAIN.COM), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server.

CORP\SP-FarmSvc is my farm account with the following SPNs:

  • HTTP/SP01.CORP.DOMAIN.COM
  • HTTP/SP01.CORP.DOMAIN.COM:5555
  • HTTP/SP01
  • HTTP/SP01:5555

SP-SearchSvc is the AD user account I used for "Search Service Account" when deploying the Search service app and also used for the "Windows Service -  Search Host Controller Service". There are no SPNs registered on this account.

I have checked that there are no duplicate SPNs, and Delegation is not enabled on the Farm account. Any ideas why this Error is appearing? It doesn't seem to affect accessing CA or affect the Search service from running.

The SPListItem being updated was not retrieved with all taxonomy fields

I have a Site Column "Company Name" of the type Managed Metadata column. This has been working fine as expected for  sometime now. Recently the I started receiving the error "The SPListItem being updated was not retrieved with all taxonomy fields". It has crept in after I tried to add a Document Set and add the "Company Name" as the Field for the new Content Type. I have tried the following:

I tried creating a field with new name (XYZ Entitiy) but same settings as the "Company Name" and I continue to get the same error. The same error now comes for other Managed Metadata fields which were created initially. All the columns are created through SP UI and no Visual Studio is used. How can I recover the field or get rid of the error?

SharePoint 2013 Content Database sizing with shredded storage

$

I'm trying to find a formula to calculate the size of Content Databases in SharePoint 2013.

Because ofshredded storage I think the famous formula (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc298801.aspx#Section1) Database size = ((D × V) × S) + (10 KB × V × D) is not relevant anymore. I think it would be closer to Database size = ((D × V) × S) + (10 KB × D) as each version of a file only adds a portion of the file to the DB (the delta). Any thoughts please ?

In my sharepoint 2013 site we have branding, etc. and when I add users to [Site Collection Name Visitors], they can't see the branding, they see the OOTB color scheme. When I add them to the site under [site settings --> users and permsision --> people and groups] they can then see the site with the correct branding.

Why do I have to add them to the site under [people and groups] and just not to the actual group and still have them be able to see the sites branding?

Is it good practice to use a finance reporting server as the database tier of SharePoint 2013?

$

Hi Experts

Is it good practice to use an existing finance reporting database server within the domain as the database tier of a three tier SharePoint 2013 farm installation?

The finance reporting server holds sensitive company data within existing SQL Server 2012 databases. I would have to install SharePoint 2013 Central Administration on the finance reporting server and give the application tier within the company DMZ access to the finance reporting server. I am wondering how secure this would be. I have completed the necessary tasks to harden the finance reporting SQL server, but I am still questioning how secure this architecture actually is? Could someone please reassure me on point me in the right direction if I am planning this wrong?

Thank you very much

Issue with Changing Distributed Cache Service Account!

$

Hello everybody,

Based on SharePoint Health Analyzer in central administration site I need to change Distributed Cached Service Account in SharePoint servers.

I’m trying to change Distributed Cache service account on our Test SharePoint farm but get below error message when it gets to deploy command:

I followed Microsoft article here to change the account : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219613.aspx#changesvcacct

It seems running this command break distributed cache on the server and remove it from the farm cache cluster . There are error number 1000 and 1026 in Event Viewer.

And if I try to run the command for the second time I get this error message:

By running below powershell commands I recreated and fixed the cluster but still looking for solution to change the service account of DC:

1.On all servers in the farm, run the following command:

Remove-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance

2.Create a PowerShell file called DS.ps1. Put the following code into it:

$SPFarm = Get-SPFarm

$cacheClusterName = "SPDistributedCacheCluster_" + $SPFarm.Id.ToString()

$cacheClusterManager = [Microsoft.SharePoint.DistributedCaching.Utilities.SPDistributedCacheClusterInfoManager]::Local

$cacheClusterInfo = $cacheClusterManager.GetSPDistributedCacheClusterInfo($cacheClusterName);

$instanceName ="SPDistributedCacheService Name=AppFabricCachingService"

$serviceInstance = Get-SPServiceInstance | ? {($_.Service.Tostring()) -eq $instanceName -and ($_.Server.Name) -eq $env:computername}

if([System.String]::IsNullOrEmpty($cacheClusterInfo.CacheHostsInfoCollection))

{

#here's the key. we can't provision, unprovision, start, or stop a Cache Service because we still have a Cache Service that have no server attached

 $serviceInstance.Delete()

Add-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance

$cacheClusterInfo.CacheHostsInfoCollection

}

3.Run DS.ps1 on all SharePoint servers. You will need to run it using the account with SharePoint Shell Administrator access. Also, make sure you run the DS.ps1 file on C:\ using .\ in front of name.

4.Now, run the following PowerShell command on all SharePoint servers:

Add-SPDistributedCacheServiceInstance

Our environment has two web front end and one application server and SharePoint version is: 15.0.4481.1005

My question is do we really need to change Distributed Cache Service account? If so, why this issue happens while I try t do so and what is the fix for this problem?

Thanks,

SP 2013 documents turned Read-Only.

Hello,

We had a single server instance of Sharepoint 2013 up and running for a good 2 months, then all of the sudden one day all the documents in our doc library only open in Read-Only mode. We can still add documents, but when we go to edit them after they've been uploaded, it's read only. We have 2 content databases, one for mysites, and one for the main sites. I was able to create a doc library on my mysites page and edit those documents. So it seems it's just our main content database that's allowing us to add documents to it, but not edit them once they're there.

We've tried from multiple computers and different user accounts. The database is not marked read-only. WebDAV is not installed on the server. I've done alot of searching for solutions but haven't found one that worked yet.

I tried creating a new site collection within the same DB and got the same results. So it seems something happened to the content database. We have a backup, so I could easily roll it back, but I want to find out why this happened so it doesn't happen again when we have more sites set up. Any tips would be much appreciated.

SharePoint 2013 people picker issue

We have two different domains say A and B. SHarePoint is installed in A domain but users reside in B domain. When I type user name in people picker it is searching only Domain and returns no result found. But If I type the username and click the share button to add an user to site it is able to find the user and add it to the site. I want to know how can I change this default settings of people picker so that it searches domain B instead domain A.

Our web application is using claims based authentication. In Central Administration it is working fine because classic mode is used.

PLease help.
