I have Windows RDS working (as much as I need for now) and SharePoint 2013 working... I would really like to add the RDS webparts to SP 2013 but everything I out on the web is Win 2008 R2 + SP 2010. Here is my configuration;

WXIIAPP1 - RD Connection Broker

WXIIAPP2 - RD Gateway

WXIIAPP3 - RD Virtualization Host / RD Session Host

WXIISP01 - RD Web Access / Sharepoint 2013

Anyone have some direction on this?

SharePoint 2013 Term Store Navigation does not show drop down links after branding.

Hello everyone,

I've setup the global navigation in my Sharepoint 2013 site using Managed Navigation and the Term Store Management Tool. Most of my top menu items have sub menu items that would normally appear as a drop down when hovering over the top menu item.

My issue is that the drop down menu does not appear to work after I apply branding to my 2013 site. With no branding the drop down menus work just fine.

I created an HTML page, used the Design Manager setup my branding and also used the menu snippet and applied it to my HTML page. I can see all of my top level items which are being driven by the Term Store but no sub menu drop downs.

Can anyone please provide some help.

Thanks.

Social data migration when changing the farm url

$

I'm migrating from SP2010 to SP2013. My users leverage social data (ratings and comments). Our migration plan is to move fromhttp://old-farm/ to https://new-farm.company.com . This introduces an issue. Social Data like ratings and social comments are tied to documents, pages and items via urls. These urls will change during migration, but there's no mechanism in SharePoint to update them. What I see is that the Urls table in Social DB database still has the oldhttp://old-farm/ urls. That's why we no longer can see social comments from the old farm. Is there a supported way to convert them? To be clear, running timer jobs from User Profile Service like "timer job to synchronize social data" did not work. Any idea? I don't want to lose data.

High Trust Configuration to Support On-Premises App Domain - Trying to Get Single Sign-On

$

I am trying to setup a SharePoint website that supports adding SharePoint apps to that website. I started by following these instructions:

Configure an environment for apps for SharePoint (SharePoint 2013)

NOTES from that install:

1) We are using SSL for ALL websites in our farm

2) All websites (besides built-in) use port 443 including the central admin site

3) We use host headers so sites can share port 443 on the same IP Address

4) We have two domains: (1) is https://portal.mysite.com (for internal and external users), and (2) How to: Create high-trust apps for SharePoint 2013 using the server-to-server protocol (advanced topic)

That topic is too vague. It is not really clear which certificate to use, or what domain to use (which domain issuer). It really doesn't do what I need: step-by-step get a website trusting an application so the credentials are auto-passed and two or more login prompts are not necessary. The "devil" (so-to-speak) is always in the details and this is driving me crazy.

User policy "account operates as system" with claims based authentication

We converted our authtication to claims based in 2010 so that we could easily upgrade to 2013.  We have 4 admin accounts in each web application user policy that were setup as "Account Operates as System" so that when our admins made changes it showed up as a change by system account and not the admin account.  Now that we switched to claims authentication we cannot set this attribute.  ticking the box results in "something went wrong" in 2013 and in 2010 the orginal farm the admins could not admin anything until we removed this check box.  Is this by design with claims based authentication?  We really need this feature.  Thanks

Unable to access any file in a document library after upgrading to SharePoint 2013

Hi Everyone!

I did a test upgrade from SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint 2013. Basically everything went pretty well except that accessing files in a document library isn't possible anymore. The browser keeps loading and after about a minute the connection gets resetted.

The ULS states the following error message:

Failed in CobaltStream.LockBytes: ErrorException: Eine Ausnahme vom Typ "Cobalt.ErrorException" wurde ausgelöst. --- Error: InvalidSerialization --- Error message: Unknown element id  at   bei Cobalt.DataElementGraphOnEndpoint.Download()     bei Cobalt.DataElementGraphOnEndpoint.OnGetIndexEntry(Key key, IndexEntry& indexEntry, Int32& refCount, Int32& chainRefCount)     bei Cobalt.DataElementGraph.FindIndexNode(Key key)     bei Cobalt.DataElementGraph.FindIndexNode[TIndexNode](Key key)     bei Cobalt.CellGraph.Load(Boolean allowSchemaChange)     bei Cobalt.GenericFda.Refresh(Boolean onlyIfFirstTime, Boolean allowSchemaChange)     bei Cobalt.GenericFdaHandler.GetStream(ExtendedGuid streamId, Bytes& bytes)     bei Cobalt.FdaManager.GetStreamInternal(ExtendedGuid streamId)     bei Cobalt.OnDemandBytes.get_TheBytes()     bei Cobalt.OnDemandBytes.Read(Range rangeToRead, Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset)     bei Cobalt.Bytes.Read(Int64 sourcePosition, Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 count)     bei Cobalt.Bytes.ReadIfPossible(Int64 sourcePosition, Byte[] buffer, Int32 offset, Int32 count)     bei Microsoft.SharePoint.LockBytesFromBytes.ReadAt(Int64 offset, Byte* pv, UInt32 cb, UInt32& pcbRead)     bei Microsoft.SharePoint.CobaltStream.ReadAt(Int64 offset, Byte* pv, UInt32 cb, UInt32& pcbRead)

Searching on Bing or Goolge did not gave me any results.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

What is the recommended approach to move my Enterprise Wiki web application from my development environment to my production environment

$

I have created the following on my SharePoint 2013 development environment:-

  1. Created new managed path
  2. Create a new site collection of type publishing site.
  3. Create sub sites under the main site collection.
  4. Modify some page layout such EnterpriseWiki.aspx page using the SharePoint designer.
  5. Created a metadata term set.
  6. Assign the Wiki Category column to use the metadata term store.
  7. Created a Farm web part using visual studio and I have added this web part to each subsite.
  8. Assign unique permission levels to each sub site.
  9. Some other minor tasks…..

Now I has tested the SharePoint web application and I did the UAT on the development environment. and now it is the time to move the SP application from development to production server. The only differences will be the usernames and group names since on the development I used local users names for testing, while on production serve i should assign the permission levels to real username and groups.

So my question what is the best way to move the web application to production without the need to re-create or re-configure the modules again.

AppFabric Caching Service Constantly Quits

I have SharePoint Server 2013 running on a Hyper-V VM on Windows Server 2012 Standard.  Everything is on one server since our installation is very small (>100 people).

I noticed a general sluggishness to our SharePoint site that started once we began to add pages to our site.  I took at look at the error log and noticed the AppFabric Caching Service is stopped and I assume this could be the reason why the site is so slow.  We receive the "Working On It" screen every time we load a page for around 15-30 seconds per page.

I'll start the AppFabric Caching Service again and within 5 minutes it stops again.  Here is a summary of the process.  The details of each event ID are below.

Dear All,

I have a sharepoint Server Farm. I got 3 web applications inside.

Each web application i have configured the outgoing email seperately. The first web application configuration is

Outbound SMTP server: mail.abc.com.my

From address: info@abc.com.my

Reply-to address: info@abc.com.my

The mail is sent out to info@abc.com.my from a list workflow without any problem

The configuration for the second web application is

Outbound SMTP server: mail.def.com.my

From address: info@def.com.my

Reply-to address: info@def.com.my

The mail is sent out to info@def.com.my from a list workflow without any problem

The configuration for the third web application is

Outbound SMTP server: mail.xxx.com.my

From address: info@xxx.com.my

Reply-to address: info@xxx.com.my

The mail is not sent out to info@xxx.com.my from a list workflow and in the workflow

i get the following message

"The e-mail message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing e-mail settings for the server are configured correctly."

could anyone please let me know where i am going wrong

Thanks and Regards,

Alagappan

External data source, RBS and Azure BLOB Storage

Hi,

I have some questions related to external storage in SharePoint Server 2013.

With SP2013 I can setup RBS and use SQL FileSTREAM to save in SQL the path of a file saved in a local drive. Doing this, you are freeing a lot of space in the DB.

Previous versions the only option was in local drive, but now in 2013 version it can be saved in a NAS device? And what about Azure BLOB Storage?

Thanks

Cannot connect as webDAV folder on a Mac - Office 365

$

As no one seems to be able to do more than offer a general opinion, I thought I would go out on a limb and post here.

From Windows, it is decidedly easy to create a webDAV folder for Sharepoint in Office 365.  Just use thhp://<doman>.sharepoint.com/teamsite.  Works like a charm.

On a Mac, creating a webDAV folder is done by using Finder->Go->Connect... I have tried almost every variant of http, https, and with and without /teamsite and by substituting legitimate library names.  Each time an error pops up that it can't connect, and there is no user name/password prompt nor further explanation.

So anyone have any suggestions? Does it fail because (as one Apple forum user suggested) because Microsoft has blocked anything but Windows from doing so (hard to believe)?  Or is it a bad implementation by Apple?  Or a problem with Office 365, in other words, can a Mac connect to an on-premise SharePoint instance but no Office 365?

Have a user who is a total Mac maniac and needs to do this.

Hi,

i'm trying to get rid of the Site Content link on the left hand side of the screen (default 2013 homepage).  Do I need SP Designer 2013 to do this?  Anyone have any experience with this.  The Site Content link shows libraries that we do not want our users to see.  Thanks for any help!

Farm account changed automatically after password change for different account??

$

I think my farm is dying :(  In addition to UPS issues I had this pop up which wasn't a huge issue but has me wondering if it is tied into the other issues I'm seeing.

I went to create a web applciation and received the error "The password supplied with the username domainname\username  was not correct. Verify that it was entered correctly and try again"  Oddly enough the password was correct - on all three servers :/ Nonetheless, I updated the farm credentials for the account and was able to proceed creating the web app.

Then when I went to start the User Profile Service Synchronization service  I noticed the wrong account was listed.  I went into CA under service accounts and sure enough the farm account had changed.  I switched it back and was abe to restart the UPS synchronization service.

I'm wondering updating the farm credentials change the farm service account and also if this is the reason why on my newly created User Profile Service that FIM breaks on moss-export with the error

MOSS-EXPORT with the error ma-extension-error

The Fim error states:System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. ---> Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException: An error occurred when verifying security for the message.

Also the My Site "Profiles Managers" web part breaks the page with the error

Unhandled exception caught during execution of
Microsoft.SharePoint.Portal.PageBase::ErrorHandler(). Exception information:
Exception information: Microsoft.SharePoint.WebPartPages.WebPartException: An
error occurred when verifying security for the message. --->
Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.UserProfileApplicationNotAvailableException:
An error occurred when verifying security for the message

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated :)

Restrict permission to the SharePoint store

Hi!

I don't want my users to add any apps from the SharePoint store. I can stop them from installing, but they can still see the link to the SharePoint store, browse around and see the message "Sorry, apps are turned off. If you know who runs the server, tell them to enable apps." This is absolutely not what I want, there must be a way to restrict access to the SharePoint store?

In SharePoint Designer i've made a change to seattle.master.  I made sure to hit save, and then on Look&Feel i selected Specify a master page (Seattle) and i reset to all subsites.

When i saved it I can see the change if i'm logged in (Site Content link is hidden) but it didn't work for any other users who go to the url. Is there something else I need to do? This is my first experience with master pages. Thanks

SharePoint Foundation 2013: AppFabric Troubles (can't start, etc.)

$

Hello! I have AppFabric installed from the prerequisite installer for SharePoint Foundation 2013 on my virtual machine. Didn't think anything was wrong until down the road, I couldn't manually start AppFabric. I tried to open the AppFabric help option on the Start screen and was met with an error "Cannot open the file C:/Program Files/AppFabric 1.1 for Windows Server///AppFabricServer.chm)

I don't know if this will help, but I had uninstalled SharePoint (without uninstalling AppFabric and SQL server) and reinstalled it. Just SharePoint (it was being stubborn). AppFabric didn't work before, and it didn't work now.

Is this normal? If not, can you uninstall AppFabric without uninstalling SharePoint?
