SharePoint 2013 and multi-level navigation

$

Hello,

I recently signed my company up for office 365. As part of that, we were going to update our website to use the SharePoint 2013 that comes with our O365 subscription. Please note that we have an Office 365 Small Business account.

I need to create a website that will have multi-level navigation. For instance, my sitemap will look something like the following:

  • Home
    • Welcome
    • Contact Us
  • About
    • Blog
    • Leadership

Out-of-the box, I notice there is support for single-level navigation. However, I can't figure out how to get multi-level navigation working. Coming from a WordPress background, I have to say that WordPress is much more intuitive when its comes to this kind of thing. Regardless, I've seen the "term store" mentioned as a solution for this. However, from what I can tell, the "term store" is not an option for a small business account.

How does one implement a multi-level, public-facing website with SharePoint 2013 Office 365 small business? I can't figure this out.

SPDistributedCachePointerWrapper::InitializeDataCacheFactory time out errors

Hi,

Trying to debug and understand a few things that are appearing in the ULS. A couple of them are as follows:

Unexpected Exception in SPDistributedCachePointerWrapper::InitializeDataCacheFactory for usage 'DistributedViewStateCache' -
Exception 'Microsoft.ApplicationServer.Caching.DataCacheException: ErrorCode<ERRCA0018>:SubStatus<ES0001>:The request timed out..
Additional Information : The client was trying to communicate with the server : net.tcp://server-name:22233

at Microsoft.ApplicationServer.Caching.DataCacheFactory.GetCache(String cacheName)

Unexpected Exception in SPDistributedCachePointerWrapper::InitializeDataCacheFactory for usage 'DistributedLogonTokenCache' -
Exception 'Microsoft.ApplicationServer.Caching.DataCacheException: ErrorCode<ERRCA0018>:SubStatus<ES0001>:The request timed out..
Additional Information : The client was trying to communicate with the server : net.tcp://server-name:22233

at Microsoft.ApplicationServer.Caching.DataCacheFactory.GetCache(String cacheName)
at Microsoft.SharePoint.DistributedCaching.SPDistributedCachePointerWrapper.InitializeDataCacheFactory()'.

I came across a post that described the following command:

Get-CacheHostConfig -ComputerName $env:computername -CachePort 22233

And sure enough it returned

Get-CacheHostConfig : ErrorCode<ERRPS013>:SubStatus<ES0001>:Error: No valid cluster settings were provided with Use-CacheCluster.

So I entered the Use-CacheCluster command and it worked!

I dont understand why though. Did I miss something on the initial setup?

Any ideas?

Thanks

My Tasks - "Looking for your tasks for the first time..."

I created a new SharePoint 2013 farm and set up user profile service and crawled our Active Directory. What I have found is that for all the users in this environment, their My Tasks work...e.g. if I have a task assigned to me in a site collection it'll show up in their "My Task" page. For one user...and it happens to be me...I get "Looking for your tasks for the first time..." (with a whirling icon) and nothing shows up.

Any suggestions on why this might not work?

Unable to remotely access Central Administration in SharePoint 2013

Hi all,

I just installed SP2013 and discovered this morning that I cannot connect to central administration from my PC.  I get "Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you." rendered in the page from _layouts/15/AccessDenied.aspx and I am not prompted to authenticate.

Happens from any browser.

This DOES work from the SharePoint 2013 server provided I'm logged in as the user who installed SP2013.

I've added my user account to farm admin and shared the CA site with same.  No change.

Added my user account as CA site collection admin.  No change.

I've been looking for quite a while for an answer to this and other than finding out that you have to assign privs to site collections to resolve this, there is no information about what might be wrong with central admin.

Thoughts???

Thanks!

Paul

After installing our SharePoint 2013 Farm with March 2013 PU, we are facing some serious issues. When checking the SharePoint log files;

Can not connect to configuration database due to compatibility issue: Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPUpgradeCompatibilityException: SharePoint object [SPConfigurationDatabase] is in an unsupported state, and could not be used by the current farm.

Site Description & Adding Link

Good morning all,

I've just installed Sharepoint 2013 on site, and am beginning to replicate (with tweaks) our old cloud hosted system.  We aren't simply migrating for a number of reasons, the cheif of which being the amount of rubbish cluttering up the old system as its core purpose changed.

The old system consisted of a large number pof "site and workspace" pages.  Each site contained a list which users could attach a file to, and then workflows would get these files checked by management.

Above the list on the page, we had a link to a CRM record, and the description of the page, which contained the customer's address, and other useful summary info.

I can't seem to find a way to get that description to appear on the page, nor can I find a way to add a new web part above the existing ones in order to add a link.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Mike

Hi,

I have a list in SP2013 containing a column with following settings

Whenever I try to add/edit a link[or links] in this column, on saving the item anchor tag encloses itself inside another anchor tag as  shown below:

Because of this broken html script my code breaks and home page does not display. Problem has occurred after my site has been migrated to SP2013 from SP2010.

Can anyone provide their inputs on this?

Sharepoint list dataheet view error "Cannot connect to the server at this time. You can continue working with this list, but some data may not be available"

I have a List which is having around 14000 items in it.while opening that list in datasheet view it is giving error .

Below is a summary of the issue:

After selecting datasheet view beow error occurs:

"Cannot connect to the server at this time.  You can continue working with this list, but some data may not be available."
    "Unable to retrieve all data."
The item counts displays say 100 out of 14000 items.

Exporting List to excel is giving only 2000 records out of 14000 records.

Other Observations   -

This is happening to only one list on the site .There are other lists in the site whose no. of records is equal to 8000 to 9000.They are working absolutely fine without any error.

Also, If I am saving this list as a template and creating another list with it ,then it is working absolutely fine with 14000 records,so the issue does not seem to be related with no. of records as the template list is working fine.

I have checked the Alternate access mapping setting ,its fine.

It should not be related to lookup, datefield or any other column as the list created from it template is working fine with all these columns.

I checked below links also ,but doesn't seem to work in my case.

External Site Access. Automatically being redirected to wrong team site

Hi, I have recently set up external access from sharepoint and have added the necessary AAM. However when I try to access a particular site externally I am directed to an entirely different site. Internal access works fine.

For Example

I have created 2 sites

site.local/sites/football (first site created)

site.local/sites/Rugby

I have created a DNS entry for site.com and added the AAM. But when I try and access site.com/sites/Rugby I am taken to site.local/sites/football.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Importing AD Photo's into SharePoint

Hi

Im trying to import AD Photo's into SharePoint. I've created the pictureURL mapping to thumbnail photo, did a full sync and ran Update-SPProfilePhotoStore -CreateThumbnailsForImportedPhotos 1 -MySiteHostLocation which all run fine however photo's are not appearing in SharePoint.

I am however using the AD Import rather than the FIM. Is this still possible with AD Import?
