Hello -

I added a new app server / Central Administration to the farm. I stopped services on old app server and started them on new server. The previous search service application was deleted. I created a new search service application and am having a hard time trying to delete it. I see the following error in the application event logs on the server:

The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.IndexingScheduleJobDefinition (ID a1c22ad5-543b-40e0-ae5e-fe66f3f30d23) threw an exception. More information is included below.

databaseConnectionString

When deleting from Central Administration, only the search proxy was removed. The 'Search Administration Web Service for Search Service Application 2' and 'Search Service Application 2' items cannot be deleted. It gives me a request timed out.

I also tried stopping timer service, clearing config cache. No luck.

Tried the following from PowerShell.....but it's been running over an hour without any updates....

Get-SPServiceApplication

Remove-SPServiceApplication cc5f6462-17e7-4ec5-ac88-d3106063a10c -RemoveData

Any other suggestions? thanks.

Central Admin not showing up in Manage Web Application list

I added a new app server to the farm which now hosts Central Administration. Details from that in this thread.

When I go to the web application list in CA (_admin/WebApplicationList.aspx), I see the old app server listed as CA (e.g., http://oldappserver:1111/). How can I get the new CA web app to show up in the list (http://newappserver:1111)?

I haven't removed oldappserver from farm yet if that makes a difference.

We are working on migrating from SP2013 to SP2016

Current Set up:

we have 2 domains . Domain A (Internal users only) , Domain B (Internal and external users). There is selective trust between these domains. Servers are created only in Domain A .

There are two URL's for the web app , one with windows Authentication and other with ADFS (External Domain B users). We always use ADFS URL for everything.

New SP 2016 architecture.

we will be using default 4 min role servers. As stated above all the servers are in Domain A including office online server.

1. When I am creating the office online farm I was wondering if it is safe to include FQDN in URL as below . What is the best practice to create URL considering this name will show up in the URL when users open a word doc in a browser.

New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalURL “http://<FQDN of the server>“ -ExternalUrl“https://<FQDN of the server>” -CertificateName <Friendly Name of the Certificate> -EditingEnabled

2. As it is stated in the microsoft docs that "Office Online Server must reside in the same Active Directory forest as its users as well as any external data sources that you plan to access using Windows-based authentication."

In SharePoint 2013 we heavily use excel services . Now when we migrate to SP2016, there is no excel service and only OOS server. Considering the statement above about servers and AD, will our external users logging in with ADFS be able to open these excel webparts ?

Helo,

I am migrating from 2010 to 2013 (to 2016 actually, but I am stuck at 2013 now).

I run Test-spcontentdatabase and I get tons of errors for custom solutions (farm solutions) deployed on 2010:

"Assembly [] is referenced in the database [] but is not installed in the current farm..."

"WebPart class fom assembly is referenced 32 times in the database but is not installed on the current farm..."

I need all those custom solutions on new farm. I took all wsp files from 2010 and copied them to 2013 machine and added them with Add-SPSolution. They are not deployed, but they are all just added on the new farm.

Each error says "UpgradeBlocking: false", but I can't mount my content database to 2013. Mount fails with errors:

"The feature with Id xxx is referenced in the database [xxx], but is not installed on the current farm. The missing feature may cause upgrade to fail"

What do I do?

I tried Install-SPSolution for all wsp solutions, but I also get errors. I don't want to delete references in database, I need all solution on new environment.

Edit: maybe it is problem with SQL Server, it is SQL Server 2017, could that be the cause of this problem?

HI there

I have clients that used Dropbox sharing via windows explorer interface to synchronise files and folders with various clients with my team. I have since moved over to Onedrive/SharePoint Business package, so how do i continue to share with clients who have basic onedrive packages, the sharepoint client folders i want various client to only access but work within their windows explorer, like i currently have it?

The is sharepoint and onedrive the same, ie if i share a sharepoint file, doe the client if registered with Onedrive pick that up automatically or does it have to be shared via onedrive only?

Scenario:

I'm planning to have a list, only one list, for managers to fill in a questionnaire. They will have to answer the same questionnaire every year, so the list will grow over time. The data will be used for analysis and audit. It's an internal control questionnaire.

The managers are located in 100+ countries, and they may delegate filling out the form to some of their staff, but the send/confirm button is only for them to push (can manage this part by checking who the user is, but suggestions are welcome).

Here's the challenge I have:

The items on the list should only be visible by country; staff in other countries should not see the items for their colleagues abroad.

I may make the draft available only to the author, but if there's more than one author I don't know what to do; for example if the manager delegates the filling-in of the form two or three people in the same country should be able to see the draft answers.

Is there a way I can control the visibility of the items by creating a special group (or groups) or can you suggest a different solution?

I could create separate lists by country and merge them into a single one for analysis, but if possible I'd rather avoid that overhead.

All suggestions are more than welcome.

I've recently join a new company and I was assigned a task to create a recovery document. We have a SharePoint environment running but no document exists as the guy installed the SharePoint has left the company.

So, my problem is how can I retrieve the key used for current installation. Is there any way I can recover is from Registry or anywhere else.

I've already checked powershell script in this post, but it doesn't return the product key.

I have a set of calendar pages and would like to export all calendar events details including comments/descriptions into Excel.

I am able to export into excel, however only displays the date, time and name of the event and not the comments.

User with Site Owner and full control access is getting access denied error when trying to set up the permissions from the site settings. Permissions assigned to that site are unique permissions.
I tried logged in with my admin account. I dont see any error. But, if I add any user to that existing groups I receive the access denied error in spite of using any other accounts.
Any suggestions to resolve this issue?

Hi, I'm hoping you could help me with a bit of a dilemma I'm facing; the SharePoint environment I'm working with (SharePoint 2013 Standard) has not been updated since 13 October 2015!

It has the minimum build (service Pack 1) required to install the cumulative updates that have been released since that time. I appreciate that cumulative updates include all previous cumulative updates and therefore normally there wouldn't be a need to install missed cumulative updates if a few were missing. However, since its been almost 4 years since the last update what would be the best approach here?

Should I install each of the missing cumulative updates or just the latest one, which I believe is currently for August 2019? Having said this it looks like the last time an update for SharePoint Server was released was in September 2017. Since then its predominantly been security updates.

I've reviewed each of the cumulative updates and in most cases I don't think the issues being fixed apply to our SharePoint implementation, although there are 3 cumulative updates from 2016 and 2 from 2015 that do look like would be useful.

What would be the recommended approach?

I've never previously had to look at SharePoint updates so this is a new field for me.

I've been given 2 different lists of needed SharePoint server updates that have been taken from WSUS for our SharePoint Server. These however only seem to list individual security updates and not the full cumulative updates. Should the cumulative updates be implemented or just the security updates?
(I'm guessing implementing just the security updates means we can't take advantage of any SharePoint enhancements/fixes)

And finally, cumulative updates are made up of different updates. Would the SharePoint Foundation and SharePoint Enterprise Server updates be relevant to the Standard server implementation I'm working with? I'd assumed only the SharePoint Server (without the Foundation or Enterprise in the title) would apply. Am I wrong?

Sorry for the multiple questions. I'm really at a loss and would greatly appreciate any support and guidance in this area.

Hi,

I am trying to hide all mail contacts in Office 365. Total Mail contact count is around 7,000. I run this:

Get-Contact -ResultSize unlimited -Filter {(RecipientTypeDetails -eq 'MailContact')} | Set-MailContact -HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled $true

But it always stops at around 1,600 + Mail contacts. I rerun the command but with no luck same mail contact is being configured.

Do we have script to run it by batch (csv)?

I have a document library that currently has over 300k documents that are linked to a outside application. The users do not actually navigate to the SharePoint document library at all to access. They click links within a program to view all the PDF's that have been loaded. Is there anyway at all to get stats on when/whom clicks those individual files?

Hello!

a couple days before (for completly different reasons) we reindexed our whole sharepoint server, there is a file server too what is crawled.

the next problem occurs since, and we had this problem before too: on the global sharepoint searc everything seems fine, i find everything, but if i enter a site, and try to search locally on the site, i don't get any search results back, there was times the local search worked, and i don't think anybody messed with the settings. is there any replication time until i got the local search results after i reindexed the whole site?

We are using SQL Server 2016, SharePoint is running SharePoint 2013 SP1,

I am trying to start User profile synchronization application, I've read points to permissions being an issue. I've done the following and ensured the following:

Farm account running as local admin on SP server
Farm account have local logon rights (also verified by logging into the server as the farm)
Farm user mapped to DBO for the Sync DB

UPA synchronization will start and show the status as "Starting" and stop after few minutes.

In the ULS once the UPS is provisioning I find below error.

ILM Configuration: Configuring database...

ILM Configuration: Error 'ERR_CONFIG_DB'.

UserProfileApplication.SynchronizeMIIS: Failed to configure MIIS post database, will attempt during next rerun. Exception: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException: ERR_CONFIG_DB at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.Synchronization.ILMPostSetupConfiguration.ValidateConfigurationResult(UInt32 result) at Microsoft.Office.Server.UserProfiles.Synchronization.ILMPostSetupConfiguration.ConfigureMiisStage2() at Microsoft.Office.Server.Administration.UserProfileApplication.SetupSynchronizationService(ProfileSynchronizationServiceInstance profileSyncInstance).

Can someone please help me in resolving this issue?

Hi all,

I have a question regarding moving document libraries in SharePoint Online (Same Organisation)

The documentation here( https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/office365/servicedescriptions/sharepoint-online-service-description/sharepoint-online-limits ) says that the limit is 100GB.

But when I tried to move a Document library with a size of 37Gb, it didn't work.

I had to break down the move to smaller chuncks(Say less than 2GB or 1GB).

Can anyone please confirm if the limit is actually 100gb per operation.
