IRM only working for checked out documents

hi,

we have a 2013 farm, and have RMS server installed and configured. we have some libraries configured for simple IRM policies.

when users try and access the documents by clicking on the file name - the office application opens and presents a dialog that says 'Sorry, you need permission to open this document. Do you want to request permission from <sharepoint farm url>?'

if you select 'Yes' the browser simply opens another browser window at the library.

the user already has permission on the library - if the user downloads the file and opens from the desktop - everything works as expected. 

however if the user checks out the file , and then clicks on the filename - the protected file opens in the office application as expected.

what is causing the permission dialog ?

I'm doing installation for SharePoint 2013, I've one APP server, One DB Server, One AD Server and One Wfe Server.
My APP server is installed and working fine. Now I've to install WFE server, in WFE server there is option in SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard - Advanced Settings -> Host Central Administrator Web Application where I need to select one option :-
* Do not use this machine to host the web site 
* Use this machine to host the web site.

Please advice which option I need to select for WFE server?

SharePoint Server 2019 - Who can add/remove hold status of selected item?

Hello,

If e-Discovery feature is configured in SharePoint Farm, then how following works:

  1. Do I require to configure anything at site collection level where I want to add/remove "Hold Status" of selected document? If yes, what are those actions?
  2. Who can add/remove hold status of selected item?

SharePoint Server 2019 - How to know "Who has done what" from "Audit Log Reports" ?

Hello,

When I checked "Audit Log Report" , it basically shows number of times actions occurred on item, while definition says "It analyze the data to determine who has done what with sites, lists, libraries, content types, list items, and library files in the site collection. For example, you can determine who deleted which content."

And I could not find details about "Who has done what" except numeric values against actions  as indicated in following screen:

How can I analyze/know who has done what from above custom report including all the actions ? Or I am missing configuring anything ? 

Note : Audit settings is configured for all the actions at site collection level.

OSSSearchresults.aspx - Sorry, you don't have access to this page

Hi Everyone,

We are having some issues with users accessing the search results page after executing a search.  The users put their search criteria in the box, press submit, and then receive the "Sorry you don't have access to this page" page.  They have contribute rights to the site, but some libraries or lists are locked down.

I found this article: http://leewaltonblog.blogspot.com/2010/05/osssearchresultsaspx-authentication.html

But don't think that is a feasible solution [making changes to the 15 hive files].  Any suggestions are appreciated.

How to add a full browser image above the suitebar?

I have the suitebar hidden by adding a script and the css #suiteBar { display: none !important; }. I want to add a full window banner image at the very top of the page, basically where the suitebar is. I want the image to always be touching the right and left edges of the window and always fit, no matter the size of the window, and the height will auto adjust. I don't want this header on every page in my sharepoint sight, since each page will have a different window. Is there a code I can add to the script editor for this?

Content db vs SQL db

Hi

1. Our content db (200GB+) is larger than its wss SQL db (130GB). 

How is this possible and how can the last modified date on the SQL db be months ago if the content is changing daily?

It seems like the SQL db hasn't grown in years, but content has grown significantly. SharePoint admin console points to the the wss db on our SQL server.

2. The performance of the above site is extremely slow (working on it..., times out, workflows often fail). Other smaller sites with different content dbs and the same sql db have no issues. The SQL server shows no resource issues. Network performance issues have been excluded.

Would it be the size of the db causing performance issues? 

There has never been any maintenance of any kind. Server reboots made no difference.

sharepoint online rss feed

Hi there,

completely new with sharepoint.

One of the users asked me to create a sharepoint site for him where should be able to place information for machinist.

RSS feed is one of the component what should be on the page.

With a RSS called RdZ RSSreader this should be easy. The thing is that I get the error message: Reason: RSS at the address "http://rss.cnn.com/rss/edition_europe.rss" could not be fetched. Please check the RSS Feed Url or contact the RSS Feed provider. 

Within Outlook it works fine.

Is this because Office365 is part of azure and the traffic for the RSS is been blocked.

It must be somthing simple but canyt find it.

Friendly URLs has been disapeared

Hello,

Few months ago I have moved a farm from one server to a new server, as a plus in this migration I have updated the SQL server from 2008R2 to 2016.

The SP2013 in new server works only without friendly urls, due to the friendly urls seem that they have dissapeared and the system does not recognized them.

Do you know ant way to transfer the friendly URLs to the new server?

How to recover deleted SharePoint Web App in SP2013

Hi,

I have deleted my whole web app from my SP site http://servername:80 (deleted @ site settings --> Site action --> delete this site.), Now when I open http://servername:80 shows Page not found, 404 error. I don't have any backup of that site. Now temporarily I have created a new web app http://servername:8080 and done my project works and all my users using this new web app. Now I want to restore the 8080 content in 80 web app. How to restore the content in to http://servername:80?

Can I recreate the web app http://servername:80 (delete that  web app and create new web app as a same name) and restore the 8080 content using stsadm -o restore?

or any other possibilities without this?

How to recover deleted SharePoint Web App and IIS pools in SP2013

While testing I dropped the main SharePoint Web application and removed the IIS app pool.  I did not remove the Content database.  

I looked under C:\inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories and the SharePoint directory is gone. This is a one-node farm so I can't copy the directories from another host.  What are my best actions to recover the environment?

There was a full SP backup taken this morning at 1am.  Do I need to just perform a full recovery of the environment and accept the losses for the day or is there another option?

"Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you." After migrate site collection sp2013 to 2016

I migrated a site collection from sp2013 farm to sp2016.

All right except users lost permission on the site even though they are in the contributors group.

When I readd user to the group he grante the permission again, but the site have many libriries with exclusive permissions and that don't update.

I already performed a User Profile Full Synchronization.

Some help plz?

SharePoint Won't Install the AppFabric Requirements.

Group,

I'm totally new to SharePoint Server, as I'm following along with a book, but I did do some research on installing SharePoint Server. I'm trying to install it on Windows Server 2012, and I've got all the prerequisite features installed except for the AppFabric installations. 

From my research, I mounted the ISO drive which gave a drive letter of E. I tried to use the splash screen, and it can't install the AppFabric. I did some research on a command: prerequisiteinstaller.exe. I made sure the path is correct. I even used tab completion, so I can know that my server is seeing the path, and it still won't install. 

The error message is in the logs: 

There was an error during installation.

The tool was unable to install Application Server Role. Web Serve (IIS) Role.

They are both installed, but it won't install the AppFabric.

Any help will be greatly apprecitated, regards.

SharePoint Server 2013 Search Index reset stuck

Hi,

Our Search service in SharePoint 2013 farm isn’t  working properly. Sometimes it takes a very long time like more than 200 hours even to complete incremental crawl ( or sometimes hangs). So we planned to reset the index start full crawl. 

Below are the steps that have been performed 

1. Stop all the running crawling processes

2. Stop “SharePoint Timer Service”

3. Stop “SharePoint Search Host Controller”

4. Reset Search index

5. Start “SharePoint Timer Service”

6. Start “SharePoint Search Host Controller” 

After completing the above steps search is no longer working across the Farm and Indexing is also not working

I created an external list of a database view in SharePoint that have 51000 records.

Now I want to use this external list information in another SharePoint list but fetching information is very slow. How I can create index on external list to speed upthe extraction of information?

License state for the current server doesn't match the Farm's License State

Hi

While adding new server in existing SharePoint Farm I'm getting below error:

Configuration Failed

I've installed SharePoint in new server using "SharePoint Server 2013 Standard with SP1 key"

So I checked the blogs and found some links:

Get-SPirmsettings returning a warning on one wfe

hi

when I use powershell cmd get-spirmsettings - on one wfe it comes back fine, on the other it comes back with a warning saying that

WARNING: The required Active Directory Rights Management Service Client (MSIPC.DLL) is present but could not be configured properly.  IRM will not work until the client is configured properly

the command retrieves the status from the farm - so why is it reporting different results on each wfe and how do I resolve this?
