Sharepoint 2013 Install - The network address is invalid

I am trying to install Sharepoint 2013 onto my Windows Server 2012 box that is already running SQL Server 2012.  The Windows 2012 box is joined to a domain (The controller is 2008 R2 Enterprise).  I am logged in with a Domain Admin account and I have got SQL Server running as a Domain Admin account and created another Domain Admin account called 'sharepoint' for the sharepoint application to run as.  I have also given the sharepoint account db_owner, db Creator and db sysadmin and db_security admin on Sql Server 2012.  I've done all I can to take permissions out of the equation!

When I run the installer, it does create the sharepoint database in Sql Server, creates tables and populates them.  It then fails with the following error:       An error occurred while getting information about the user sharepoint at server home.mydomain.com: The network address is invalid

home.mydomain.com is the domain name of my domain.  It is not the name of a server though, a server would be myserver.home.mydomain.com.  Could this be the reason for the network address is invalid?  How can I fix this?
