Central Admin backups vs SQL Server

Regarding the backups in SP. I know that there are a few important backups that we need to do, however what is the difference between the backup in Central Admin (farm) and SQL server backups. Isn’t the sql server backup doing the same as the central admin backups.

If our SQL Server  is scheduled to backup the databases, then is it redundant to do that in Central Admin. Let me know if there are other best practices to backup our SP.

I found this site, but need more information on what exactly is being backup by central admin (farm and configuration)

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee428315.aspx

1.)   Backup farm by using either Central Admin or Powershell

2.)   Backup the SQL Server databases –

3.)   Backup the Virtual Environment – SnapShot

4.)   Backup the OS system

5.)   Backup site collections
