SharePoint Server 2019 - How eDiscovery feature is helpful and what it's all about ?

Hello,

Microsoft says "eDiscovery, is the process of identifying and delivering electronic information that can be used as evidence." and I have couple of questions on this feature:

1. Does it mean, that it's about searching content from SharePoint farm and exchange and then exporting different content from different location into a single document ?
2. What does "used as evidence" means in above definition ?
3. How it's differ from the search center ?
4. What is the hold status we see under "Compliance Details" option in item context menu ?
5. What are the different business cases/scenarios where we should use "eDiscovery feature" ?
