Hi,

I am trying to Add a Application Server to existing SharePoint farm .

I have been able to  add 2 Web Front End servers to the SharePoint Farm without any errors. However , when I am trying to add another server , I am getting the below error.

Installed the SharePoint Binaries, SharePoint SP1 for Norwegain Language Pack and then run the config wizard.

Doing the installation with Setup Account (SVC-SPInstall) which has all required permissions.

Tried Installing using PowerShell , but getting error:The local Farm is not accessible, cmdlets with frequencydependencyID are not registered.

The same account was used to install and add other servers to the farm.

Please find error screenshot.

Administrator: SharePoint 2013 Management Shell
The local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets with FeatureDependencyId are not registered.

Thanks

SharePoint 2013 user migration from old domain to new domain - List view assigned are impacted

Hello All,

Recently, we starting migrating the users from DOMAINA\account to DOMAINB\account using the following power shell script

Move-SPUser -Identity $IdUser -NewAlias $NewUserID -IgnoreSID -confirm:$false

We don't see any challenges with user permissions (or) security. But, there was an issue noticed at List level as there are certain list items which are assigned to user with old identity/ Display Name which are NOT visible in the custom view with rule as Created By field is equal to "[Me]". however, user is able to see ONLY new items created and able to see those list items in custom view.

User profile user property has the migrated account and verified all the fields

How to make visible the old items in the same custom view? Please advice

Sharepoint Site Slow single content DB.

I'm experiencing a slow down of a site and can't seem to find the issue.

We have a farm with multiple content db's.  The website that slowed down is the only site in the content db.  It's a Document Center template.  All other sites are normal and have no issues.

There is only one library on the site.  It has about 7000 documents in it.

  • Each document does have it's own permissions.
  • We are only using one Document library.
  • We are not using folders.
  • I did increase the threshold for the 5000 item limit to avoid the threshold error.
  • We do use versioning and do not have a limit in the number of versions kept.

I've been reading about issues with to many permissions, large lists and to many versions.  All appear to be problematic.

Things I'm thinking of.

  • Creating folders inside the document library and moving the documents.
  • Assigning permissions to the folders and removing/resetting inheritance.
  • Change the versioning information to only keep major revisions.

Now the questions for me is.  Will this work?  I really want to ensure that my suggested changes are the right course of action.  The reason I ask is it really is only 7000 items.  I keep reading articles about 20,000 items so I'm confused why my tiny amount would be such a big deal.

So what exactly is slow?  Well it appears to be the clicking of the … .  I can see it takes like 15-30 seconds to retrieve metadata.  Then I click … again and it take equally as long to get the drop down menu.  Then I click modify and it takes about 45 seconds to open.

I'm looking for suggestions and assurance I'm on the right track.

I've searched other threads about the issue of 'Failed to create sample data' at step 8 of the configuration wizard. Many came forward to say "share the Analytics_GUID" folder with the admin account on the server.

I've looked in the folder path Program Files > Windows Sharepoint Service > 15.0 > Data

There is no Analytics_(GUID),  to share.

This is my error

Failed to create sample data.

An exception of type System.NullReferenceException was thrown.  Additional exception information: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

This KB shows installed on the server and the log file says it was successful.

MSI (s) (54:40) [15:53:23:468]: Product: Microsoft SharePoint Portal - Update 'Security Update for Microsoft SharePoint Enterprise Server 2013 (KB4022235) 64-Bit Edition' installed successfully.

Tried to re-run install and got a 1603 error most likely because it was already installed.

I need help figuring out why Central admin is showing the patch still missing.

Thank you,
Mark

Open Documents in Client Applications by Default

Hi,

I've enabled OWA in SharePoint 2013 environment and for certain Site collections I enabled feature "Open Documents in Client Applications by Default".

But there is an issue that only Internet Explorer works correctly according this settings: IE uses client application correctly, Edge offers to a download of file, Chrome uses OWA regardless, Firefox uses OWA regardless.

Is this a known issue? Can it be resolved on SharePoint level or is this browser related issue and needs to be fixed within each browser?

SharePoint 2013 Search Index Component Degraded, How to Fix?

$

Due to Some network related issue, Now i have 2 Index component degraded, Inside that index component i have 1 partition each and i have 2 other servers running index. Now how can i fix this issue, to bring the indexes back to normal without resetting whole search index.

After doing some research in the web, i was able to write a powershell script to first remove that faulty component and add new component in existing topology:

Removing an faulty Index Component

#1.retrieve active search topology
$ssa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication
$active = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -Active -SearchApplication $ssa
$active

#2.clone the active search topology
$clone = New-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -SearchApplication $ssa -Clone -SearchTopology $active

#3.get search service instance ID on all servers in the farm
$hostWfe2 = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Identity "Server010"

#4.verify search service instances are now all online
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Identity $hostWfe2

#5.retrieve search components
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchComponent -SearchTopology $clone

#6.remove index component from APP1
Remove-SPEnterpriseSearchComponent -Identity <Search component id> -SearchTopology $clone

#7.activate the new search topology
Set-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -Identity $clone

#8.verify the new search topology is now active
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -Active -SearchApplication $ssa

Adding New Index Component
#1.retrieve active search topology
$ssa = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceApplication
$active = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -Active -SearchApplication $ssa
$active

#2.retrieve search components
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchComponent -SearchTopology $active

#3.clone the active search topology
$clone = New-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -SearchApplication $ssa -Clone -SearchTopology $active

#4.get search service instance ID on all servers in the farm
$hostWfe1 = Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Identity "Server010"

#5.verify search service instances are now all online
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchServiceInstance -Identity $hostWfe1

#6 retrieve search components from clone first
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchComponent -SearchTopology $clone

#7 add index component from index partition 0 to Wfe1
New-SPEnterpriseSearchIndexComponent -SearchTopology $clone -SearchServiceInstance $hostWfe1 -IndexPartition 0

#8.verify all the new components are added and reside on correct servers
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchComponent -SearchTopology $clone

#9.activate the new search topology
Set-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -Identity $clone

#10.verify the new search topology is now active
Get-SPEnterpriseSearchTopology -Active -SearchApplication $ssa

Do you think this will work in my case, another important question will this code in any events re-index Search. That is the last thing i want to happen, because it will take multiple days to reset the crawl.

Thank You

Forefront Identity Manager will not start

Good Afternoon SharePoint pros. I have been battling with this for over a week. I cannot get my User Profile Synchronization service to start. I have done everything I can think of to my farm including following the wonderful post at http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx . Still my UPS won't start. The problem is that my Forefront Identity Manager service does not start.

I checked and I have the correct permissions under Local Security Policy, Domain Replicate Directory Changes permissions, my farm account is a local admin, I have re-created the User Profile Service Application from scratch

When I reboot the server and the FIM service tries to start I get the following entry in my Application Log:

ERROR 1

ERROR  2

The Forefront Identity Manager Service could not bind to its endpoints.  This failure prevents clients from communicating with the Web services.

A most likely cause for the failure is another service, possibly another instance of Forefront Identity Manager Service, has already bound to the endpoint.  Another, less likely cause, is that the account under which the service runs does not have permission to bind to endpoints.

Ensure that no other processes have bound to that endpoint and that the service account has permission to bind endpoints.  Further, check the application configuration file to ensure the Forefront Identity Manager Service is binding to the correct endpoints.

Hello Team,

We performed an activity where we tried removing a cache instance from the cache cluster using the steps performed in the article https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj891108.aspx. We had around 4 servers which we wanted to remove from the cache cluster, using the above article we were successfully able to remove the server from the cluster however in health analyzer only for one of the server we still see the below message (There were other server too list in health analyzer earlier, however post execution of the command mentioned in the article there were no longer listed in health analyzer)

Title

One of the cache hosts in the cluster is down.

Severity

1 - Error

Category

Availability

Explanation

One of the cache hosts in the cluster is down. This indicates that the SharePoint cache client is trying to connect to a wrong cache host. This will lead to unknown failures.

=======

Title

Firewall client settings on the cache host are incorrect.

Severity

1 - Error

Category

Configuration

Explanation

Firewall rules settings for App fabric caching are disabled. This will lead to unknown failures.

Cleared the SharePoint timer cache from the problematic server and also did a reboot however still the error message persist. When trying to run the Get-Cachehost command do not see the problematic server in the list. Also checked the cache cluster config file and don't see the problematic server listed in it under host tag. The host what we see in the config file are the same as the server what we see in the Get-Cachehost. Please suggest how can we get rid of the warning message what we are getting in health analyzer.
