Files in Document Sets are no longer in thier folders after a web copy

$

In SharePoint 2013, I exported a subsite using export-spweb.  I have done many of these and there really isn't much trouble with them.  But this one had a document set in it.   When I import it to a new site collection, all the files that were in the folders in the document set were not in folders.  When I looked at the default allitems.aspx view, I saw the files.  Yet when I click in all my document set folders, nothing was there.

Has anyone else faced this problem?

What did you do to resolve it?

Here is what I have found so far,  if I grab an item object from the Document Set library and look at the value ["MetaInfo"], I can see references to the old site url.   So I think they may be a reason why they are no longer in the folders.  But in that ["MetaInfo"] property there is a whole heck of a lot of information.

Usually if I were to update something like title it would be easy  like this:

$spitem["Title"] = "NewTitle"

$spitem.SystemUPdate()

But with ["MetaInfo"], it looks far from simple.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Re-install on one farm server - Cumulative Update fails

$

Not a question: just a small contribution to the accumulated knowledge on the web.

DEV environment. One WFE server, one App server (which also hosts SQL Server). Somebody attempted to apply Windows Update patches to both servers, but things went wrong. WFE was patched successfully, but App was left with missing patches. In Central Admin, Servers on the Farm, the App server showed a bunch of missing updates, missing Service pack 1 (a lie), etc. SP Product and Config wizard did not help. After much dinking around, the App server was toast. That's where I entered the picture.

I decided to uninstall SharePoint 2013 from the App server, re-install it, patch it, then join it to the farm. The uninstall and reinstall went fine, and Service Pack 1 went in fine as well. But when I tried to install the same Cumulative Update that was in place on the WFE server, I got the dreaded "The installation of this package failed" message. Running the SP Prod Config wizard and tried to join the existing farm. Got a long list of missing updates, most of which were part of the Cumulative Update I had tried to install. For the others, I clicked the link in the "missing updates" list, downloaded the update, and installed successfully. But that left about 8 that were part of that Cumulative Update. Tried the CU again. Same error, "The installation of this package failed."

Here's how I solved the problem -- for the benefit of anyone else in my situation.

I had downloaded the .exe for the Cumulative Update. As I said, it kept failing. So I downloaded the two .cab files for the CU. I unpacked them using the c:\windows\System32\expand.exe utility. This left me with 438 individual .msp (patch) files. I then looked in the CU log file (find it in %TMP%). It's about eight miles long. I skipped to the end and saw a long list of patch file names, matching the names of the .msp files I extracted from the CABs. In the log file, each patch was followed by "NoShow","NotInstalled", or "Installed". The NoShows are patches that are not needed on my server (foreign languages I'm not using, etc.). The Installed are patches that went in OK. But there were three or four "NotInstalled", which I figure were the ones that were causing the overall CU failure. So I right-clicked on each of the corresponding .msp files and chose Update. Each patch installed without error. I then re-ran the CU .exe, and it reported success.

I than ran the SP Product config wizard, joined the farm, and everything went perfectly. Ta da!

Lesson learned: when a CU fails, look in the log for the specific patches that were NotInstalled. Download the CAB files and extract those patches. Right-click each and choose Update. Then run the CU .exe again. Remember: the CU is simply a collection of zillions of individual patches, along with some code to figure out which ones your server needs and attempt to install them. You can do it all by hand, using the msp patch files in the CABs. The trick is knowing which of those 438 to install -- and that's where the log file saves the day.

hide i:0#.w from user name sharepoint 2013

We had migrated our portal from Sharepoint 2010 to Sharepoint 2013. The user profile service is configured and user profile synchronization service is running correctly and all of the valid user profiles are fetched from AD and updated in SharePoint server.

However, when I go to site permission of our web application the display names are showing correctly but the login name are showing with claim based tokens ("i:0#w|<domainname>\<username>". Please see below snapshot taken from site permission page for few users:

I need to know if we can somehow hide the special characters and display only <domainname>\<username>.

Hi ,every body

I configured Secure Store Service in my sharepoint 2013 farm.

I want to create external content type in sharepoint designer 2013 and connect to sql server database. I'm going to use secure store target application for authentication.

for that matter I do below things:

I have 4 users to check that matter:sharepoint1,sharepoint2,sharepoint3,sqldbaccess

my database is: testdb. I grant the public and read permission in my database to sqldbaccess user

I created one target application with this steps and settings:

target application type :group

I set these user for these settings in definition of my target application

Target Application Administrators:sharepoint3

Members:sharepoint1,sharepoint2

after I created target application, I set credential for the sqldbaccess user

then I go to sharepoint designer 2013 and create external content type and connect to my database with these settings:

I set mydatabase server and database name in own textbox.

I checked connect with Impersonated windows Identity and I set secure store application ID textbox  exactly to what i created before.

but I didn't connect to my database with any user :sharepoint1,sharepoint2,sharepoint3 and these error appeared:

cannot connect to the sql server databse defined in datasource connection ???

message from external system"'login failed for user ????

what is my mistake ?

I expected the users can connect to secure store and then access to my database.

Host Named Site Collection confusion

$

Greetings,

Been tasked with creating a new site on my SharePoint 2013. It needs to have a different domain name than my other sites. So, for instance, most all the sites are in domain "first.com", this site needs to be in "second.com". When this farm was first built, new web apps were used when a new "top level" site name was needed, like "main.first.com", "next.first.com", rather than "main.first.com/sites/next". This was about 4 years ago, and that's how I had done this sort of domain naming thing in SP 2007. Of course, after doing all that, all I seem to read about is HNSCs, and using those instead of new web apps. I get the part about conserving resources, etc by not spinning up multiple web apps.

So last year I tried a HNSC. I created a new web app for the HNSC, assigned it a new port number since 2 web apps won't share the same port (443) without host headers. And I was able to create a HNSC under that web app with a different domain name. Now, I know I shot myself in the foot when I did this, because the web app was created with one domain (first.com) but the HNSC was created with the second domain (second.com). Had to "adjust" the SSL cert for the site a bit, so I get SSL warnings on the "main" site but not on the "second" site. And, being incredibly short sighted I didn't purchase a wildcard cert either. :-(

Now I need to add another HNSC. I used the same steps I did to create the first. It creates fine, at least it shows up in the list of sites with Get-SPSite.

New-SPSite https://new.second.com:8443 -owneralias "blah" -hostheaderwebapplicationhttps://host.main.com:8443 -name "NEW SITE" -owneremail blah@blah.com -secondaryowneralias "blahblah" -secondaryemail blahblah@blah.com -template "sts#0" -language 1033

But, I can't browse the site. Now, I've read a bunch of stuff, and it could be the SSL cert (?). But, I can browse the "main" site and get the SSL cert error. But not this site.

So, I know I've made mistakes here. I need to get this site going, but, I need to do it right as well, as there could be other occasions for additional HNSCs.

I've got other WebApps, with the first web app created without a host header. Can I/should I be adding my HNSCs there? (Assuming I get a proper wildcard SSL, which is being worked on.) I guess I just haven't learned how to read Microsoft yet, but the tech notes I've read from them confuse me. I've seen a number of helpful posts here (and elsewhere), at least I can read and (mostly) understand them (I think), but still confused.

Recommendations??? Help???

Thanks much.

Steven.

SSRS DBS Showing Database is in compatibility range and upgrade is recommended

We have a server in our farm that is dedicated to serving SSRS reports. SSRS is installed in SharePoint integrated mode. The SP1 was added to the DB (SQL 2012) a couple of months back. Afterwards our 3 SSRS databases were showing " Database is in compatibility range and upgrade is recommended".

I ran PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures. I reran the health rule and it disappeared. A few days later it showed up again. I reran psconfig and reran the  health analyzer rule and it disappeared again however this time I checked the database upgrade status page and there it still shows the "Database is in compatibility range and upgrade is recommended" message. This evening I reran this command, first on the SSRS App server, then on the app server that hosts CA (Previously I ran it on this one first) and finally on the WFE. This message still persists on the upgrade status page.

I have a hunch that the reason is this:

Our SharePoint 2013 Databases are Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP3-GDR) (KB3194721) - 11.0.6248.0 (X64)
 Enterprise Edition: Core-based Licensing (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.3 <X64> (Build 9600: ) (Hypervisor)

Our SSRS Database running on the Microsoft SQL Server 2016 (SP1) (KB3182545) - 13.0.4001.0 (X64) Standard Edition (64-bit) on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard 6.3 <x64>(Build 9600: ) (Hypervisor)

F5 Probe not working with SharePoint

I have an issue with F5 load balancer configuration with SharePoint.

I have 4 web apps, All are configured the port 80. I have dedicated IP address for each Web app. I am using the Http Probe from F5 and it is working fine when everything is up and running.

Issue is when I stop one web app on one of the WFE, as per expectation Load balancer detect it and stop sending request on this server, But this is not actually happening. F5 will detect it if I stop all the IIS but if one web app is up then probe fail to detect it.

I am wondering if you face the same issue and what solution you implemented.

Hi

Can someone explain whats this is caused by and why - is it a upgrade gone bad or?

"[MissingSiteDefinition] 61 Sites in database [WSS_Content] have reference(s) to a missing site definition, Id = [14000], Lcid = [1033], compatibility level = [15].  The site definition with Id 14000 is referenced in the database "

I've read this: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/aa543837.aspx

and tried do the SQL:  select fullurl from webs where webtemplate = 14000

And it list URLs that is obsolete

How is this fixed best ?

hi,

I am using a 3rd party tool for tracing communication between user browser and servers and I see that whenever a call is made to SP, a call is also made to another machine which is a remote access portal. I am unable to check where this configuration is there in the sharepoint.

I need this to be checked.

Any help? Thanks in advance.

Checked Out To Column Not Showing any names

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me on something thats baffled me (and hoping its not a corrupt library!)

I have a document library, versioning and approval enabled.

Check Out works fine - I have the little green arrow and can visualise the person who has a document checked out.

But....when I add the Checked Out To column, it is always blank.

I've tried a new library and that works fine.

Is there anyway I can reinstate the Checked Out To column without recreating the library....?

After Cu December 2016 upgrade, people picker cannot find accounts from SharePoint Group

$

We have a several lists within a SharePoint site that uses the "Assigned To" field. This field has settings of type:"Person or Group", no unique values, allows multiple selections, People Only, and the"Choose From" field is set to a SharePoint group with four members in the group. The "Show field" field is set to "Name(with presence)".

Originally, when editing the form and adding "Assigned To" users, the people picker was able to resolve users when beginning to enter their names. Perfect. Following the December 2016 CU, we edit the form it can no longer resolve names from that Group.

If we set the "Choose from" field within the column settings to "All Users", the form is able to then resolve names correctly as it searches all AD accounts/AD groups. Switching it back to a SharePoint group then causes the issue again. I've found that the only way around it was to go to that specific group, remove the user account and then re-add the account. After doing this, the account now resolve and populates when beginning to type the name into the Assigned To field. Though, this only resolves for that one user account. Other account that have not yet been removed and added still have the issue.

I'm wondering if anyone has ever ran into this and if there is a PowerShell script of sorts to re-sync user accounts within the permission group.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Excel spreadsheet locked out for editing.

Hi,
I'm having problems with Excel spreadsheets becoming 'locked for editing', and unable to access, after a user has edited and closed a document.<o:p></o:p>

This seems to only happen intermittently, and sometimes this 'locked for editing' state is lasting hours.<o:p></o:p>

Is anyone able to read through this error log and tell me what's happening?

I think the important parts of the log is the fact that it is locktype=0 and minutes=60 but here are the full details:

Thanks heaps in advance!
