Previous Version of workflows unexpectedly activating

We've come across a problem on our farm where old versions of workflows are unexpectedly activating. 

As one example, we have a core workflow that has been updated frequently over the last few years.  One morning, users suddenly complained about receiving dozens of emails for a single field change.  After investigation, we found in the workflow settings page that all of the "Previous Versions" had suddenly been set to "Allow" instead "No New Instances".  The single field change was firing an instance for each previous version hence all the extra emails.  

Any idea what might have caused this?  It has happened on multiple workflows throughout our site.  Right now it appears isolated only to 2010 workflows that existed before our upgrade to 2013 (although the workflows were fine immediately after the upgrade). 


Reaching a sharepoint farm build number through a full CU or through security updates, is this the same

I have been working on SharePoint server 2013 for around 3 years. And there is something that still I cannot understand regarding the SharePoint farm builds numbers “(get-spfarm).buildversion”. As we have been facing these scenarios:-

- When we first install SharePoint 2013, it was on its RTM stages.
- So every 2-3 months, we use to download and install the latest SharePoint full CUs, then we run the product configuration wizard. And accordingly the SharePoint farm build number use to increment.
- But after having our farm stable and we got many customization, so we stop installing full SharePoint CUs, and rely only on our server patching process, which is done by our system admins.
- Where our patching policy requires all servers to be patched every 2 months. Where windows security updates and SharePoint security updates will be installed.
- So we do the patching first on our test SharePoint server, then we do a test to check if everything is working fine, and if everything is fine one our test server , then the live server will be patched.
- But my point is that when our system admin install SharePoint security updates, and we run the SP product configuration wizard we noticed that sometimes that SP farm build number will be incremented.

So my question is; let say we have 2 SharePoint farms, and both of them are one Feb 2016 farm build number but one farm reached February 2016 farm build number from installing a full CU (Feb 2016 CU), while the other farm reaches February 2016 farm build number from installing SharePoint security updates only. So does this mean that both farms got the exact same patches installed, and I can back-up a site collection from one site and restore on the other farm, and also I can be sure if something worked on the first farm it should work on the other, etc. OR both farms in this case will be different although they share the same farm build number?

Hi, I am currently recovering some files that are not in the second level recycle bin by using the textcopy.exe from the SQL 2000 resource kit on my SQL 2014 server where the Sharepoint content database is located, I have searched and found the file name and now I am going to try to restore it.

Please let me know if I am going in the right direction to restore these files as I have to create a new SQL server to perform these restore tasks, or if there is a better method than the in the article below that I am following.

Also, is there a method to restore entire folders not just files?

Farm architecture and servers communication SharePoint 2013

Dears,


We are implementing Sharepoint 20103 and the architecture we are planning to deploy is made by 1 WFE, 1 Application and 1 DB server.

Our customer policy requires however that the Web front end must be isolated from the DB, so the 2 servers will not be able to communicate directly (WFE will talk only to App, and App will talk to DB).

What are the implications of this kind of solution? Could we have issues with some of the services? I'm thinking specially about the reporting: Excel services, Performance Point and Reporting Services.



IE 11 issues in sharepiont 2013

Hi everyone,

my organization has a the CU patch level "November 2014" and I haven't done any patching yet.

Since last few weeks we are running into some IE issues when using SharePoint 2013 (EX: Loading the page/Gets hanged..)But it perfectly works on Google Chrome. Is there any impact on the IE as we did not do any SharePoint CU update since November 2014 ? Or what could be the other reasons.

please advice.

SharePoint 2013 big issue with windows update KB3192392 and KB3192404 ?

Hello,
we have two farms SharePoint 2013 at different SharePoint CU levels.
End of last week, we had the same issue for both farms  : any sites (including Central Admin) were no more accessible - error 404.
There were no change done on theses SharePoint farms.
We notice that a system update was done on the servers during the week with KB3192392 and KB3192404.
We suppose that the cause of the issue comes from one of this system update.
First, we didn't think of these updates. We restore the farms with a previous backup of the servers and databases. And everything went up fine.
Then the system updates were applied again automatically on the servers by our update services. And both farms went down again.
We tried removing only the updates and restarting the servers but the issue is still there. We have to restore again the farms.
Did anyone face the same issue than us ?

SharePoint ADFS/AD Single Sign On Multi Profile Architecture Problem

Hi all,


I'm trying to find a sharepoint architecture solution about the following problem:

  • I've 2 kinds of users : "External" and "Internal".
  • External users have an AD account, they reach my SharePoint webapp through Internet and authenticate with ADFS.
  • Internal users have an AD account :
    • when they are inside the company they access to my Sharepoint webapp through the internal network and with SSO Windows Authentication (NTLM).
    • when there are outside they access through ADFS

In SharePoint with this kind of configuration I have 3 types of user profile : 

  • 1 Internal (AD)
  • 1 Internal coming from internet (ADFS)
  • 1 external.

My problem : for each internal user i've two Sharepoint account ( one "AD" and one "ADFS"). 

Because of this, Sharepoint site owner have to set permission on both AD account and ADFS account to give access regardless the user came from (internal network or internet).




I can remove NTLM authent for SharePoint and just use ADFS but i don't want that my internal users inside the internal network have to reauthenticate..
how can i configure my ADFS to automatically authenticate internal user with their NTLM credential when they are in the internal network ?

Hello SP Gurus - We have SP 2013 Enterprise on SQL Server 2008 R2. The DB Admin is upgrading it to SQL Server 2016. Question - Is SP 2013 compatible with SQL Server 2016? If not, how about SQL Server 2014?

Problem Viewing DocumentRouterSettings.aspx - List does not exist Error

Hi, we created a new site collection in our Records Vault, and everything looks ok except for the Content Organizer Settings page, where we receive Sorry, something went wrong on the _layouts/15/DocumentRouterSettings.aspx?Source=settings.aspx page.  When reviewing the SharePoint logs, I see the famed missing list error, e.g.,

The DocumentRouterSettings page relies on the Submitted E-mail records list, and we confirmed that this list existed in the site collection and we were able to bring up the list, including the list settings and everything seems fine.

Since the DocumentRouterSettings is related to Content Organizer feature, we tried a number of solutions including Deactivating Content Organizer feature, Deactivating SharePoint Server Publishing, Deactivating SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure under Site Collection Features; and then reactivating those features, with no change in results.

We also compared this site collection to other existing site collections that were set up in the exact same way with these features enabled to see if there was anything different about this particular site collection including (list of features and permissions).  We found 3 other site collections with similar problem.  Two of those are working just fine, but one other records vault site collection is not working as designed.

Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this problem?

How do I add a column to the All Groups View of People and Groups

We have a lot of groups in our SharePoint implementation. I would like to give user the ability to filter the view based on group ownership. how do I add that column to the default view. I am clearly not looking in the right place as there is no "view" defined in the way a list view is defined, and hence there is no "modify list view".

HELP?

Site Columns issue in Variation Source site

The SharePoint 2013 site is Variation Site (Publishing Site). There are Custom Site Columns of type Date and Time,Publishing Hyperlink,Publishing Image etc.
These site columns are added in few page libraries and List Libraries.

In the Variation Source Site, whenever an item added or edited the Site Columns fields with Image, Display Date or Link in the Page Library or List Library, item details vanishes including Global Navigation.

If an IIS reset is made, the item deatils and global navigations come back. What could be the reason ?

Is there any option to debug using Powershell ?

My problem: I have an existing *new* SP2013 farm (single server). After installation of farm we realized we had to create the SQLAliases. 

Please can you propose an article detailing the steps to take including the possible problems encountered and its resolutions.

DB for SSRS in SharePoint mode is stuck in a "Provisioning" status

My SSRS (in SharePoint integrated mode) database is stuck in a "Provisioning" status (PowerShell on how I found that out). SSRS still seems to work but the SharePoint best practice analyzer is telling me an upgrade is needed but the databases are not showing any upgrades needed. What can I do to get the DB out of "Provisioning" status? Should I upgrade it somehow? Or is there something else I can do here. (I have recently run "PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures -cmd secureresources" and that hasn't helped.) I appreciate any assistance in advance!

send mail from share point 2013 using exchange 2010

i need to send emails from Share point 2013 via our Exchange server 2010 after i configured the two servers with the below configuration i still can't send any mail the environment contain 1- SQL server( contain share point database ) 2- share point application server 3- share point web server 4- exchange 2010 server

my steps 

Create new receive connector

Name it share point outgoing front-end transport and custom and next

then leave all available IPV4 and the port 25 then next

we will add the share point server IP

Click finish then go back to this connector and in the security tab check on anonymous user then save

and in the Share point server i already configured the outgoing mail and wrote the exchange server name in the SMTP and valid mail to from and to   but when i test with power shell script to send mail it said the result failed and i used this script  alot before and i know it is correct

so what i can do ?????????????????????????????????????????


SharePoint 2013 - Three level navigation

Hello All,

I’m new in SharePoint administration. I have created a PUBLISHING site in on-premises SharePoint 2013. Have got NAVIGATION link in site setting for the root level site. My Company have three(3) level menu, e.g.

(Level1) Department

                (Level2) IT

                               (Level3)Development

                               (Level3) Design

But when I open the NAVIGATION screen, I see “Structural Navigation: Editing and Sorting“ allow me to add HEADING in level 1 and add LINK in level 2, but I’m not able to add Level 3 menu.

I have set “Structural Navigation: Display the navigation items below the current site” on and “Maximum number of dynamic items to show within this level of navigation:” = 20 for “Global Navigation”

For “Current Navigation” too I have same setting, i.e. “Maximum number of dynamic items to show within this level of navigation:” is 20.

We have activated 

SharePoint Server Publishing - Site feature and 
SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure - Site Collection Feature.

No Luck.

After researching, have updated “MaximumDynamicDisplayLevels”=3” and “StaticDisplayLevels=3” in SEATTLE.master, complete code block below:

Sharepoint: How to add a wait dialog when Edit an Item(javascript)

Hello everybody,

I want to show a wait dilalog when click on "edit item" in the Edit Control Block, I know it can be displayed If I call SP.UI.ModalDialog.showWaitScreenWithNoClose("Please wait a moment", ""), SO what I need to do it modify the "OnClick" event for "Edit Item" action.

The difficulty is that The ECB Options are rendered after we click the "..."(along the Title field), it's not rendered as the page load, SO I can not get the "Edit Item" option when the page load with javascript.

Anyone can help me?

Modify Sharepoint Online Global Navigation (ckeckbox 'show subsites' and adding hyperlinks to structural navigation)

Hi,

In Sharepoint Online I need to modify Navigation for many sites. What I would like to do is to:

1. Mark "show subsites" in Global navigation section

And, additionally, It would be really helpfull (but not that much important) to

2. From Current navigation remove all Links

3. To Current navigation add only link to Wiki.

My question is, do You know any scripts/powershell snap-ins that could speed up and automate this?

Error in create a SharePoint site using import a template

Hi,

I have downloaded the template file from one of the SharePoint site. Created the new site and import that template file. Template imported successfully. but opens a home page with below error.

"This page is not using a valid page layout.  To correct the problem, edit page settings and select a valid page layout."

Site contents loaded properly and all the files are loaded properly. But also we can't able to open the Page Layouts page under Design manager. It shows the below error.

"List does not exist.
The page you selected contains a list that does not exist.  It may have been deleted by another user."

Could any one please help me to resolve this?

Excel prompts for credentials in nested SPWeb

We have a web application 'samenwerken' (everyone has Read access) that has multiple SPSites.

On each SPSite, everyone has limited read.

On the SPWeb, there is a document library with multiple Excel documents. I give a domain user 'tester' read access to a file.

I run IE as that 'tester' user and copy paste the full url to the Excel document. The Excel opens perfectly and the content is shown in Excel. However, a prompt for credentials to connect to our SharePoint server pops up. When I enter the 'tester' credentials, it keeps popping up.
