This did not work for me. I get an error "Exception calling "AddFieldAsXml" with "1" argument(s): "Root element is missing." no matter which site or site collection I use - I tried multiple combinations.

So, I have been working with the SP Manager 2013. I can see that HashTags column created via the GUI and there are duplicate entries when I create the one column - HashTags and HashTags_0. If I erase the HashTags entry both are removed.

I have one site that works and has a proper structure meaning Web Application\site collection\site - newsfeed works fine

My one problematic sub-site that has the issue is web application\site\sub-site\sub-site (I didn't set this up and would HIGHLY advise against this structure). I cannot migrate it due to my Manager and the high use of the sub-site.

I do get the "We've hit a snag" error if I try to add something into the newsfeed - text or image.

I have noticed in the Microfeed that if I try to create the Hashtags column using the Managed Metadata column type that under the Term Set Settings there is an additional value not shown in the one that is working - shows the default site collection with references to HashTags underneath. I must select one of the HashTags entries in order to have the HashTags column created - see image. 



Any ideas of how to fix this or is it even possible due to the structure?

I have a new SharePoint farm, everything works well except the <g class="gr_ gr_97 gr-alert gr_spell gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="97" id="97">mysites</g> were never be created for users. I checked everything on the <g class="gr_ gr_149 gr-alert gr_spell gr_disable_anim_appear ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" data-gr-id="149" id="149">mysite</g> host web application and everything looks good there -  Self-Service Site Creation, Permission Policy, User Policy, all looks good to me.

I checked the job history and the My Site Instantiation Interactive Request Queue finished with successed status on the WFE server.

I checked the ULS log on WFE, under "Personal Site Instantiation", I can see all the "Starting timer My Site Second Instantiation Interactive Request Queue" and "Finishing on timer My Site Instantiation Interactive Request Queue".

Any idea? Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

After a failed install of the Reporting Services add-in the SharePoint Timer Service keeps restarting every few min with the following errors in the event log. 

• Event ID: 7024 The SharePoint Timer Service service terminated with the following service-specific error: Unspecified error
• Event ID: 7031 The SharePoint Timer Service service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 34 time(s).  The followingcorrective action will be taken in 30000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

There is a timer job named "Upgrade Job" that tries to run when the timer service restarts, but it fails with the following error. 

• The timer service job definition 'job-upgrade'  was not executed because the target object 'SPServer Name=<my servername>' was upgrading. The job status is: Aborted.

I tried deleting the job, and restarting the service, but the timer service just creates the job again when it restarts. I found the following entries in the ULS logs related to the timer service.

•  The timer service is starting
• Detected upgrade mode regkey
• Updating SPPersistedObject SPUpgradeJobDefinition Name=job-upgrade. Version: -1 Ensure: False, HashCode: 3429838,Id: 542bd36d-febe-45b0-a535-c1d4d6360ae5,

I have tried clearing the timer service cache, and checked permissions for the account running the timer service, but neither worked. How do I stop the timer job from creating and executing the Upgrade Job?

I have two servers, I want to have a "farm" with these two, I want to have a "sql server" and "sharepoint server" and then I want to migrate my web applications ( I have two web applications in another farm) to this new farm.

For this purpose after creating a new farm and configuring the new Web apps, I want to have a backup from my sqlserver (DB) in old farm and then restore it into new farm,

But as you all know there are too many databases in sharepoint web application, so what should I do? I don’t know if it is necessary to have back up from all of them or not? And another problem is that their name is Random, too many digits.. so I don’t have them exactly in my new application.

I have Project Server 2103 installed with additional language pack "Language2" . When I localize column labels in Project Site lists , like Risks list, it works fine. the label appears as Column1 when am using Language1 and Column2 when am using Language2.

But when I save the project site as template and use it for new projects , the column label shows the original language in all cases. Any solution for this?

We are moving our DB backend of sharepoint from a mirrored environment to HA AlwaysOn SQL 2014 Sync server.  With this, I know our content DBs have failover populated with a secondary server and I need to wipe this setting out in CA, then shut down services and add in an alias to the HA group and then turn all services back on.  However, what else are we missing in switching from mirrored to HA AlwaysOn?  We are not building a new SP farm just updating the backend of the current 2013 farm. Thank you!

We have a web application 'samenwerken' (everyone has Read access) that has multiple SPSites.

On each SPSite, everyone has limited read.

On the SPWeb, there is a document library with multiple Excel documents. I give a domain user 'tester' read access to a file.

I run IE as that 'tester' user and copy paste the full url to the Excel document. The Excel opens perfectly and the content is shown in Excel. However, a prompt for credentials to connect to our SharePoint server pops up. When I enter the 'tester' credentials, it keeps popping up.

What I've already tried:

• According to http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/smb-technologist/prevent-unwanted-credentials-prompts-with-sharepoint-document-libraries/ I should set the authentication method to NTLM => this doesn't solve it.
• According to https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/office_integration__sharepoint/2014/02/24/prompted-for-username-and-password-when-opening-an-office-file-from-a-web-server/ => the url of the web application 'samenwerken' and the sharepoint server url are in the trusted sites. Also, the setting of automatic logon is set for all users by GPO

What is wrong with the permissions and what can I do to solve this?

I am copying files found a network drive and paste to SharePoint 2013 Foundation via Open With Explorer. After the files are copied to SharePoint, thumbs file is showing. But on the network drive, there is no thumbs file. Is there any solution so that thumbs file do not get stored on SharePoint? I've tried to set up External Content Types to an Azure SQL database but when I click OK at the Dialog Box for SQL Server Connection I get an error.

Testing different conditions :

• Firewall SQL Server OFF

• Firewall SQL Server without my Client IP in the firewall table

• Typed wrong ( intentionally ) the Secure Store Application ID field
• Other configurations at the perrmisison in Azure
• Test an ODBC Driver connection, and, I got a successefully connection using an ODBC driver.

 I had made the testing on different ways and allways I recived the same error "Cannot connect to the LobSystem (External System).....":

Steps by steps made confirating the ECT, Secure Store  and BCS:

First, I created the Secure Sotre App Id:

Second,  Set Credentials with the User and password that used before in ODBC Driver connection tested above.

Third, Propageted the permissions,

Fourht, I created the ECT with SQL Driver connection using the Secure App ID: 

I read out lots on other links found it in the forums and log, without success.

Know you any other issue that fix this error?

When viewing a librabry in Sharepoint there is a Library Feature that allows you to link the library or folder to outlook.

I have done this before and it seemed a useful feature, one of our users pointed out recently that she was unable to drag emails from outlook into the folder linked to sharepoint in Oulook. I tried doing the same on mine and found I could no longer do this either.

Wondering whether anybody else had seen this problem before and know what might be causing it. (My thinking is it might have been an update, or a setting that might have been inadvertently changed by one of the other admins)

WOuld appreciate some help on this

Our wildcard SSL certificate expired yesterday. We replaced the certificate in IIS last week and verified the new certificate was being used when visiting the site by viewing the certificate in IE.

As of now, our SharePoint sites are not working and in the Application Log is error 8311

However, the thumbprint of the certificate in the error is our old certificate which we are no longer using. Somehow SharePoint must be using this certificate internally, or for the SecurityTokenService or something but I can't find it anywhere.

Any ideas?

I have some specific problem on SharePoint 2013 when I am trying to enter on specific site. Sometimes Access Denied error appears even if I have right permissions. In SharePoint logs I have found some strange errors as described below:

Failure when fetching document. 0X80070005

Access Denied. Exception: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation...

When right user is added to User Policy in Central Administration for specific Web Application error is gone for a while.

What more, Distributed Cache service is configured and may here is the problem?

I have a few MS access 2010 web apps that my staff have been using for a couple of years.  

All of them stopped working on our Sharepoint online teamsite last week.

What could be the cause?  There are no errors, no logs.  I have no idea how to troubleshoot this.

I can still open them in client, and they work fine.  Also, I have a couple of MS access 2013 web databases that work.
