SharePoint 2013 User profile photos / pictures import from AD using AD Import

Hi everyone

I've done a bit of research and it looks like there's no easy/ straight forward way to import user pictures from AD usingAD Import. All posts around this assume that you're using SharePoint User Sync (FIM). I might be wrong.

Has someone been able to achieve this?

If it can't be done through configuration, I'm wondering if, as last resort, I need to write a script that downloads user photos in to a fileshare and then upload them into SharePoint UPS using Powershell.

Any more pointers?

Undeclare a record as step of a retention policy?

Hi,

I am starting to use retention policies and doing some testing.

I created a policy with several retention stages and applied it to a contenttype. I have a working teamsite and a record centre. When the content organizer moves the document to its appropriate library and folder it gets automatically declared as a record.

Now, I want the record to be deleted after a certain period which is the end of its lifetime. It seems that the record cannot be undeclared which blocks deletion. 

How can this be done as a policy?

PowerPivot Gallery Thumbnail - show X red sign after scheduled refresh

recently a customer of mine has created a powerpivot gallery and uploaded some excel reports. when it first rendered using excel services, the thumbnail can be seen in the gallery with the preview of the charts and table.

but after it runs on scheduled refreshed at every 3.15pm, the thumbnail will show an error X icon. 

we noticed that there is this error in the logs whenever the scheduled refresh happens

what we have done so far:-

1. grant the excel service account as local admin.

2. add the site into trusted site

3. Disabled loopback check 

anything that we missed out causing it not able to render the preview after refresh?

License question on Internet facing server

Our customer currently have valid SP2013 Entp license. Is there any additional license required if InfoPath Forms Service (or any other Enterprise feature) is enabled on external facing WFE servers? Is there any Microsoft link that details about the licensing?

How to make sure that Site collection is accessible by Site collection administrators only?

Hi,

I have a scenario where i want to give access to a site collection only to site collection administrators . Is it possible to achieve using Powershell?

I dont want to remove the existing users access in the site collection.

User gets Group Claim

When i add a user to SP site. A group claim is added. Once the user access site and uploads a document a user claim for the same user gets addedd. so Two claimsn for one user.

No when i added another user his group claim is added but when document is added no user claim is created and the diaplay name is shows as claim

Large Files and Drop-Off Library

I am working on an issue with Drop-Off Library on a SharePoint 2013 instance for a customer.  I am submitting a file to a Drop-Off Library via Submit File in a SharePoint 2010 Workflow.

The submission to Drop-Off Library fails on occasion, and it appears to be happening when the file is larger than average, but not excessively large.  For example, two Word documents in docx format that exceed 50 MB consistently fail to be submitted to the Drop-Off Library and Content Organizer returns an "UnknownError" status.

Based on the fact that it only occurs on larger files, it seems like a timeout issue, maybe.

Before I go digging into ULS, has anyone ever run into this before?  Is there a better place to start looking besides ULS?

OneDrive For Business: I can't save my document

Hi everybody,

It's the first time I have this issue ...

When I modify my word document in Office Online (based on my OneDrive), the save is not making and there is an error.

It's the same think if I try to modify on the deskop version, it can't be saved ...

Has somebody got the solution ?

Sharepoint and OWA binding error

Hi,

i have created OWA server with HTTPS, i have verified OWA is working using http://myowa.mydomain.com/hosting/discovery

i have created IIS self generated certificate.

https://myowa.mydomain.com/hosting/discovery both URL are accessible on app server and owa server.

when i run command to bind SharePoint with owa  New-SPWOPIBINDING  getting error "the server did not response"

pls guide what is an issue and how to fix it.

Encryption in Sharepoint 2013

We are planning to implement encryption for SP/third party links on our portal front page , the idea is to use AES encryption and the encryption of these links will happen in real time when we load the page. can anyone please suggest if there are any negative impacts of using encryption in SharePoint ? any impacts of performance etc ? App Install - Sorry there was something wrong with the download

I just configured the app store in my SharePoint 2013 on-prem farm and everything is configured according to the link below...

However, when I try to add an app, I see this error...

Sorry, there was something wrong with the download. Try adding it again.

I have checked the Regional settings for my site and I made sure that the regional settings in the app store matched it.  The App Management service and Subscription Settings service are running.  The Service Applications are configured and look fine.  I'm running the April 2016 CU.  I'm running out of ideas.  What am I missing?

User Profile Property Assistant Mapping Active Directory

Hello SharePoint Gurus - I am trying to map User Profile properties with Active Directory attribute. I can see only "assistant" field to map. To my surprise this is not the correct attribute. A/D msExchAssistantName attribute shows proper Assistant Name in Outlook. So, when I tried to find msExchAssistantName, I can not map with Assistant UP property. I do not want to create a custome property and map with msExchAssistantName because I know when existing Assistant UP poperty is populated properly, Assistant would have permissions to manage and update boss's profile.

Please help.

Installing Language Packs

I need to install two language packs in order to enable MUI for a customer.  I wanted to understand the impact of installing Language Packs based on Microsoft documentation.

Does installation of Language Packs require an outage for SharePoint?  Is it necessary to re-run SharePoint Configuration Wizard following installation?

What is the best practice for installing a Language Pack and is there any gotcha's or things I should make sure of when installing?

We face that issue on our SharePoint 2013 servers. (We see them on Both May 2015 CU and November 2015 CU and May 2016 CU)

Does anyone knows how to resolve it. There isn'r really any correlation in the ULS, but during this time I get quite few messages like: 

 Unable to update the value of a system performance counter.  The following exception was thrown: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800703FA): Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {BDEADF26-C265-11D0-BCED-00A0C90AB50F} failed due to the following error: 800703fa Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion. Changing Service account password shared between content and shared service farm (SharePoint 2010,2013)

Hello

We are using same service accounts  in our content farm and shared services farm( search, UPA services etc..).  I know changing account password will not work in other farm . Can anyone suggest best way of changing password in these situations please..

Workflow Manager with High Availability

Hi,

I have following farm architecture.

02 APP Server,  02 WFE with NLB and 01 Office Web Server.

now i want to install and configure Workflow Manager in high availability. i know for Workflow manager HA we need three servers.

is that possible or recommend that can we use 02 app server and 01 office web server to form a Workflow manager Farm as high availability.

or i will need 03 separate machine to create Workflow Manager farm as High Available.

SharePoint OWA Integration Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2

Hi,

I am trying to configure Office Web Apps with SharePoint i have installed OWA and configured it over https. 

when access http://owa.mydomain.com it show XML files.

when access https://owa.mydomain.com it  gives following error

Turn on TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1, and TLS 1.2 in Advanced settings and try to connect system administrator.

TLS are enabled on IE 11, also getting same error on firefox.

pls guide what is an issue and how to fix it.
